Ep 2 Summary and Ranting of “Bhupa Praemai”

lovefia

Posted on June 13, 2012

“I have never loved you!”

Pan said to Chai in Ep 2 of “Bhupa Praemai” as she tries to get the reality into his thick skull. Which pretty much sums up this episode nicely, took about 7 parts out of 8 for Chai to realize that they are over, done, finito.

Someone should give him the book “She’s just not that into you” or maybe “how to get over a gold digger for dummies” because he’s obtuse and pathetic. Deny deny deny seems to be his motto.

Mayhaps you can use your fast forward button on your laptop and bypass Chai’s pathetic-ness, if that is even a word. Better yet, maybe just skip episode 2 altogether.

Clearly several things got under my skin,.

For one, the main characters had no interaction with each other, except for the final 9 minutes- if you consider glancing at each other an “interaction.” But we’ll get into that in a bit.

So apparently Pan and Aunt Da has been trying to help Praemai escape her unfortunate fate of marriage to someone she does not love. They are doing this more for their benefit then to help Praemai, but Praemai, being the naïve and glass half full kind of girl, does not realize this.

Once again they try to help her escape, this time, she will attempt to runaway to America, hoping that it is far enough and will deter Prince Sangchai. Attempt is a lose word as she gets caught by her mother even before she could leave the premise of her home.

Upon which, her mom decides to take away her freedom (but didn’t she already do that by handing her off to marry a prince against her will?) and tells her that she is not allowed to go anywhere without the presence of her or the prince.

Praemai is appalled but doesn’t defy her mother, which indicates a bit of dilemma on her character’s part. She’s a good girl, polite, naïve and etc, had enough gall to runaway the first time but can’t give her mom and prince a piece of her mind?! I guess that would go against her character’s grain. I mean, I’ll give her credit that she at least tells the Prince that she does not want to be his bride.

Which leads me to fume about her mother who’s forcing the daughter to marry a prince because she gave him her word. Apparently her words are much more important than her daughter.

Wow lots of irrational characters.

Moving on to some developments regarding the bro’s “Praemai…”

Bhupa returns home after his trip to Chiang Mai and we learn what a tight knit family he has: him, P’Chai and mom. This will help set up his anger on P’Chai’s behalf when he finds out that Praemai is really not a good person: someone who used his brother for his money and then leaves him.

At any rate, he discovers that Chai is head over heels in love with a woman named Praemai, to the extent of spending everything he has to make her happy. Even spending the money that was intended on an office shareholding for Bhupa. But Bhupa loves his brother and said that a mere office is nothing compared to his bro’s happiness. Awe.

Imagine his shock to find his brother missing for a whole night.. we don’t know what exactly happened except for the fact that Chai walked into a river.

The social, formal event commences, as Praemai appears in a red, puffy, short dress with a large bow in the front. Bhupa’s company happens to be the security firm hired to ensure the safety of the party and he notices a familiar face. His eyes are resolved to trailing after her every step.

He soon realizes (from his buddy, how handy) that Praemai had fooled him all along, the story she told him when he was helping her out in Chiang Mai were all fabricated. He looks at her (as she glances everywhere else but at him) with hurt and anger.

Pan made an entrance and when she laid eyes on Bhupa’s face, she is immediately attracted. Oh boy.

I can already see where this bus is going.

And finally, within the last 1 minute of episode 2, Praemai spots Bhupa! Her face lit up and she took a quick step to seek him- but her crazy, annoying fiancé grabs her by her arm and stops her. No worries friends, she used the ‘girls bathroom’ excuse. Pan follows close behind.. and mutters evilly that if Prae’s fiancé sees this, would he approve?

Ooh, see what??

Sorry friends, unfortunately that is the end of episode 2. How frustrating is that? Until tomorrow then.

Sigh, what a waste of an episode. They didn’t even talk.

Beyond the Brightly Lit Night: “Bhupa Praemai” Ep 1 Recap

lovefia

Posted on June 12, 2012

The festivities of Loi Krathong are heavily underway in the brightly lit province of Chiang Mai, as Bhupa catches a woman who ran helplessly into him. Two men close in behind her as she pleas for his help.

“They’re going to kidnap me,” she exclaimed as she holds on to his arm, begging him, a complete stranger to help her.

The two thugs warned him to stay away, but Bhupa (starring Por) places her behind him and said that if there is a woman in distress, he shall help her.

The woman, light skinned and doe eyes, watches in amazement as the stranger fights the two thugs; her knight in shining armor. And she tells him that he is like a hero out of a movie and thanks him profusely for helping her.

Bhupa ignores her flattery and asked her why they were after her.

She immediately looked away guiltily and said that her adopted father wants to rape her and she is running away from him. Bhupa recommends she seeks help from the police but she backs away, avoiding any officials at all cost.

As he tries to walk away, she follows him.

“I’m Praemai (starring Taew)!” she introduces herself with a big smile. “And you are?”

“Bhupa,” he answers stoically.

“Can I be frank with you?” she asked him awkwardly, peering at him between her bangs. “I just arrived to Thailand and I don’t have any friends. Can I go with you?”

Bhupa is flabbergasted at her audacity.

“I have no where else to go… and you’re talented!”

“I don’t want any burden,” he relents and stalks away.

In a traditional style home, a woman worries about Praemai, her daughter, who ran away that morning.

We glean that Pan (starring Joy Rinlanee) envies her sister who is receiving the attention from the Prince as well as her mother. Pan and Praemai are not biological and Pan clearly despises her.

Her aunt (starring Kik Mayurin) encourages her to do whatever she could to win over the Prince and prevent this marriage.

—

Back at the festivities, Praemai is still following Bhupa, the stranger who rescued her. Unfortunately the thugs are still after her as they get into another brawl. She notices one of them with a knife and jumps in front of Bhupa to protect him- yet she gets slashed in her forearm.

Finally, Bhupa was able to lose them as they hide in a car. They snuggled close as the thugs circumvent the car. Distracted by the noise, the thugs left them alone.

Praemai’s forearm is bleeding and she looses her grip. Unintentionally, she finds herself falling on Bhupa as they look surprisingly into each other’s eyes.

Fireworks lit the dark night sky as the two made their way towards the throngs of people. Praemai knew the only way she will be safe is to be with him- so she shamelessly begs him to promise to stay with her- at least until morning.

Bhupa looks exasperatingly at her and wonders why he needed to make a promise to stay with her.

“I’m afraid you’ll runaway. I need your scouts honor, please?”

Bhupa could not resist helping a damsel in distress more than he could help breathing, so he relents. They pinky swear and then absorbed the festivities around them.

She is like a kid in a candy store- after all- she had been away from Thailand for so long.

Bhupa calls his friend that he will be canceling their loi krathong as he had a business to attend to. Unfortunately on the other end- his friend’s sister named Pam-Kaew- had wholeheartedly counted on floating the loi krathong on the river with him. She is hopelessly in love with him.

Pan is playing another man for his attention and money. She’s been dating him for a few months now and has been telling him that her name is Praemai.. can’t imagine why she would do that (insert sarcasm.)

He is led to believe that he is the luckiest man on earth because she loves him.

It also turns out, that the man she is playing is Bhupa’s brother (starring Bie Suwit)!

—

With her cheerful and carefree attitude, Praemai encouraged Bhupa (the cynic) to partake in the festivities. They lighted the candles for the floating light, and sent loi krathong off into the river.

As they sit amidst the café by the river, Praemai inquired what Bhupa was praying for.

He replied, “I pray for the sake of praying. I don’t like to ask for things from anyone. If I wanted anything, I would find it on my own.”

It is how he views the world.

But Praemai said, “There are certain things that you can’t find on your own.”

He scoffs and asked rhetorically, “are there really some things that one cannot find on one’s own?”

“Well there’s love,” Praemai answered.

“So you prayed for love?”

“I pray that I will meet my soul mate.”

He rolls his eyes.

“I just want to meet someone who loves me and I love him- two people who are born to be soul mates.”

“You’re unbelievable,” he said, “you’re running away from thugs and you’re still daydreaming about love? Have you not experienced any difficulties/distress in life?”

“Of course,” Praemai said calmly, “it is among us, but if we look at the bright side of things, we will be happy. Like me, right now.”

She looked at him, “what about you, aren’t you happy?”

“I’m just whatever.”

“You’re such a romantic,” she said sarcastically.

But he peers at her as she smiles, looking up at the darkened night.

As the night draws to a close, Praemai and Bhupa made their way to a hotel. It turns out there is only one vacancy and they must share a bedroom.

He warns her that she should not trust a stranger- especially when he’s a man.

She adamantly replies that she would rather stay with a stranger who has saved her life and so far, she feels that she has made the right decision. Bhupa is turning out to be more and more of a gentlemen in Praemai’s eyes. She adored the fact that he rescued her, that he stuck around to help her and that he gave up the bed for her. Who could blame her? He may have a bad mouth, but he’s certainly handy to have around. Not to mention his quirky, cute face.

As he showers, Praemai calls her mother. She tells her that she will not be returning home until she rescinds the marriage proposal from the prince. There was no way she would marry someone she did not love. By now, it is clear that Praemai is a romantic and will do anything to stick to her principles- or shall we say, ideologies.

The phone immediately rang after she was finished with her mom.

It was Pam-Kaew, asking for Bhupa. Praemai told her that Bhupa is currently in the shower and is not in the position to take calls. She also added that he did not want to talk to anyone else but her (Praemai.) So Pam-Kaew bursts into silent tears as she hears this and Praemai hangs up the phone, feeling dreadful. She sincerely apologizes into the night sky that she had to lie, but she did it because she was afraid he would leave her.

In Bhupa’s eyes, she’s fanciful. He has never met a woman who adored the notion of love so dearly. She told him a tale about cupid before she goes to bed, hugging the ridiculous pink bear that he won for her.

“For a girl, love is very important.”

“That is nonsense.”

She scoffs at him but hits the nail on the head, “You look at love as if it is something nonsensical.”

How could he not smile at her when she’s not looking?

That night Praemai dreamed of the thugs walking into her hotel room, trying to kidnap her again. Screaming she rolls around and falls into Bhupa’s arms (who happened to be sleeping on the floor.)

He held her close to ensure her that she was only dreaming and she wakes up. She scolds him that if he was holding her that way, she would lose her reputation. Bhupa bickers that he was the one who would get ruined since she fell on his lap.

Embarrassed, Praemai scoots back onto the bed and goes to sleep.

The following morning, when she wakes, she finds herself alone in the hotel room. Panicking, she searches the room for Bhupa.

Luckily he only went out to get them some breakfast.

Meanwhile his friend (a cop) runs into the prince’s sister at the mall (she goes by Ying.) She mistook him for a criminal and had her bodyguard apprehend him. They get into a squabble but she learns he is a cop. (I get short attention span around this time because I just want to see what else is going to happen between Praemai and Bhupa.)

—

In the hotel garden area, Praemai brings the breakfast out to Bhupa.

The murky river and the breeze lent a great environment for their tofu milk and bread.

“I didn’t realize a “princess” like you can take care of others,” he commented.

“This is no big deal,” she said as she sits across from him, shrugging the insult. “You risk your life to save mine, I don’t know how else to show my appreciation.”

“I’m surprised that someone who is selfish can think of others..”

“I’m not selfish- and I don’t like for others to take care of me one sided. We all should take care of each other,” she said nonchalantly.

“Sounds great- so why don’t you go and pack your things so I can take you to the station as promised?”

She looked worriedly at him. She was not ready to leave and must find a way to prolong their time..

As he is driving her to the station, she learns that he will be making his way to Bangkok. She convinces him that she must go to Bangkok too as she knew some people and she would much rather ride with him.

He gets a call from his friend who was livid because he caused his sister to cry all night long. While on the phone, he looked over at Praemai who looked away nervously.

Bhupa also learned that Pam-Kaew had called the prior night. As he hangs up, he stalks to the car.

“Why didn’t you tell me Pam-Kaew called?”

“Well- I was afraid that if you knew your girlfriend called, you would leave me to be with her,” she replied apologetically.

“You are so selfish!” he exclaimed. “Do you know that your selfishness hurt Pam-Kaew and caused her to cry non stop?!”’

He continued, “in this world, there is a type of people I hate the most- liars!”

She looked sorry at him.

“I can’t believe you are that type of a person! Get out of my car!”

“Please don’t make me leave!” she begged.

He reaches out and unbuckles her seat belt and roughly pulls her out of the car.

He hands her her bag.

“Don’t make any more excuses! I’m not listening to any more lies.”

She rushes over to open the car door.

“If you so much as sit in this car, I will phone the police!”

She stammers, “I wasn’t about to go with you.. I just want to apologize that I didn’t tell you about Pam-kaew.. and that I’m sorry that I hurt her. “

She pulls the pink teddy bear out of her bag.

“You can take this with you- this little cupid will help Pam-Kaew stop being mad at you and come back to love you. “

She shuts the car door and peers at him sadly.

He rolls the window and drives away.

Yet the further he drives, the more stricken he looks and finally, he can’t stay away and steers the car back.

Unfortunately, a large van pulled up to her and the same thugs stepped out.

‘Tell your boss that the more he does this, the more I will hate him,” she yelled at them.

But they don’t concede and said that they were only doing their jobs.

She contemplates her situation as she stands between the two thugs.

Will Bhupa make it in time to rescue his damsel?

At least we’ll have this moment to enjoy until the next episode..

Moments like these.. Khun Nu and Pat in “Buang”

lovefia

Posted on May 30, 2012

Sometimes it doesn’t require one to watch an entire drama before enjoying aspects of it. I’m not following Buang, and I’m not sure if you are, but I was perusing Youtube and noticed some Khun Nu and Pat cuts in Buang and couldn’t resist pressing play. Heck, since I don’t have to spend hours watching Buang, why not watch clips of the secondary characters? They seem to be much more interesting anyway.

You may be familiar with Pope Thanawat from Tawan Duerd where he stole the hearts of many female fans as the rough around the edges but sweet Nai Singh, or from Game Rai Game Rak as Dr. Wattana, the relentlessly hopeless romantic. In Buang however, he plays the “playboy” and cunning character, Khun Nu. At least we cannot say that Pope attempts the same characters over and over again (much to chagrin of many actors who do.) Someone once said- this may have came from the context of many historical romance novels I read as a young adolescent- playboys (or rakes for that matter) make the best husbands. Do you agree?

Whatever the case may be, Khun Nu is indeed the flirt but he falls for a lesser attractive of the types he typically goes after. At first he couldn’t believe he would find someone who is old fashioned in every way shape or form attractive, so he teases her and taunts her- maybe to convince himself that the feelings weren’t true. Yet as they work closer together, he finds her inconveniently appealing. She (Pat) on the other hand despises playboys. But you know, you gotta be careful with who you hate, because there’s an old saying that you tend to stumble upon them. And such is the case with Pat.

Here is one of my favorite scenes of them, where Khun Nu tells his secretary that Pat is his girlfriend. Pat gets flustered and angry so she rushes out of the building. Khun Nu follows her outside and tries to stop her from leaving.

He asked her what is the matter with her since they were speaking on good terms earlier. Pat immediately gets riled up and told him that he was mean, full of himself and that he toys with female’s feelings (meaning hers!) So Nu assumes that she was mad because he said she was his girlfriend. He then proceeds to explain to her that his comment was true.. she is his girlfriend. Pat shook her head and brought up Umpah (the main girl) then catches herself from getting jealous (as she sees Nu smiling) and tells him that she must quit her job (she was working for him.) Pat then lashes at him that he’s cunning, selfish etc and tries to walk away.

Khun Nu stops her and asks if he was the only person who could make her lose it like that (how cute!)

She turns around, “Yes! In fact lately I’ve gone through a lot of mood swings- first I’m in a good mood, then I’m angry, then I’m crying.”

“There were tears too?” Khun Nu asked as he leans down to look her in the eyes. “When, where, and were there a lot?” He smiles.

She gets angrier, “you crazy man! I don’t want to see your face again. Goodbye,” and she turns around and walks away.

Khun Nu stops her in her tracks and pulls her into his arms.

He tells her, “the one thing in this world that can make a person go from being in a good mood to being angry to crying.. is love. The one person whom we cannot go without seeing.. that is the person whom we love.”

“Let me go,” she said softly.

“I want to see a serious and proper person like you lose your composure. Because it is something that no one has ever done to you. But I’ve done that. That means that I’m important to you, right?”

She looks away from him.

“From now on, whether you are in a good mood, or angry or crying because of me, you’ve already done that before.”

She looked at him, confused. “What are you trying to tell me?”

“I’m telling you that me and Khun Pah are not an item. What you saw was a misunderstanding.”

“What? Ok, you can let me go now.”

“If you want me to let you go, do you believe me now?”

Pat nods her head.

They look into each other’s eyes, and you can’t help but appreciate Pope’s very adorable smile.

I especially love when he confesses to her that “awhile back I tried to convince myself that you weren’t pretty, that you weren’t good enough.. but the person who is not good enough isn’t you, it’s me. I’m the one who is not good enough for you. I’ve done it all, been to parties, be with girls.. now that I’ve met such a good woman who is sweet and kind, it makes me want to stop (being bad.) It makes me want to be a better person, a good person for you.” And he seals it with a kiss.

Being a sweet, tender fellow really suits him. Makes me feel sad that he’s not going to be the main (sweet) guy to Janie T. in Raeng Ngao. Although I don’t know what the pair of Pope-Janie would look like, but I do fathom that Pope would portray a better tender pra’ek than Ken Phupoom. Ah well, at least it will free up Pope’s time to play non remake lakorns, heeh.

If you are not currently following Buang, I would recommend at least watching the two clips below!

To Be Born A Swan.. Ep 1 Recap

lovefia

Posted on May 28, 2012

Have you ever dreamed of being born a swan? In Thailand, being born a swan means having security, wealth, the grand surname and large white castles- very much akin to being a princess. It is something that cannot be given to you.

Behind the large metal rod gates of “Kerd Pen Hong,” our nang’ek and royal blood Ying Krittiya (Kwan Usamanee) prepares for her engagement ceremony as her maid clips a swan pin to her lapels.

In the grand living room, her family and the groom’s party awaits for her entry. As she descends the stairs, everyone stares in awe at the innocent, pink beauty before them.

Yet unbeknownst to Ying, it will be the last time she can claim to be truly ignorant of her stature.

Because her father is in serious financial straits. He can’t piece a penny together to save his life. During the engagement ceremony, as she slides the ring onto her groom’s ring finger, a man’s voice forced her to stop.

It was her father’s rich business partner who was here to ruin everything.

The engagement between her and her fiancé was a love match. She was happy to be his future wife, even if his mother gave them the blessing due to her royal blood. Unfortunately when she learned that Ying’s family was destitute, the older woman pulled back and pronounced that their engagement was over.

Shocked, hurt.. Ying felt the events happening before her as a surreal dream.

What’s the most important thing to a swan? Her honor. She will not allow someone to disrespect her family. And so she rescinds the engagement herself. Amidst all of this, her fiancé did not fight for her; he could not go against his mother’s wishes.

Meanwhile, Tiow (Tle Tanapal) enters the scene at a sugarcane factory. He is part owner but receives no respect from the workers as they side with the “big boss,” the person with the most shareholding.

There was a case of foul play with the latest production of sugarcane and Tiow was determined to deliver the new batches himself. The other workers however, despised him and claimed he had no say. A fight ensues as Tiow and his one cohort goes against four workers.

Tiow kicked some butts and was finally able to obtain the keys to the sugarcane truck but the evil worker pulls out a gun and cocks it.

Before he was able to shoot, the Big Boss appears and apologizes to Tiow on his workers behalf. Tiow does not look convinced but relents and prepares to drive the sugarcane truck.

Little did Tiow know that they will not allow him to deliver the goods on time.

Distraught from her failed nuptials, Ying cries silently alone. Her parents on the other hand, fought over how they were going to fix things. Her father was determined to sell the castle yet her mother refused. We soon find out that she had taken a large loan (potentially risking the castle and their honor) due to her gambling ways. We also soon learned that their marriage was not what it’s claimed to be, her father loved the children and hides how he really feels about his wife from them.

Ying decides that she needed to clear her head and takes a drive around. In her red-tagged white convertible BMW, she cruises through the deserted roads without paying attention to the road.

Tiow was currently driving the sugarcane truck to deliver the goods when he had to come to a screeching halt because some dumb-dumb wasn’t watching where she was going. And she dared to flee the scene.

He notices a large truck pursuing him and quickly steps on the accelerator. It wasn’t a friendly pursuant, they were out for blood. As his truck slams to a break almost hitting a motorcycle, he decided to take the motorcycle and pursue them.

Chasing their tail, he comes to a stop and aims his gun at the truck. Unfortunately that same white BMW comes into his vision and forced him to lose their tail.

Damn it all, it was the same dumb-dumb.

He runs towards her car to make sure she wasn’t dead. When she sees standing before her door however, she screamed bloody murder and thought he intended to rape her. He did have a gun.

Ignoring her outlandish accusations, he made his way back to his motorcycle.

Ying was alone on the dirt road with a broken car. As much as the crazy mad man scares her, he might be able to help her. After pleading with him however, he heartlessly drove away.

Much to her surprise however, her former fiancé shows up and tells her that he still cares about her, that he still loves her. He was also holding her close too. She breaks away and tells him that since they were no longer an item, they could not act this way.

It wasn’t soon enough before Tiow decided he wasn’t a bad guy after all and comes to her rescue. Before he could play hero however, he finds her in the arms of another man.

Ying tells her former fiancé that they needed to get back to the castle. Once there, he tries to wo0 her back but Ying tells him that she doesn’t want people to think that she married him for his money. He on the other hand, promised her that he will go against his mother’s wishes. Yeah right…

When Tiow returns to the factory, he gets taunted by the workers. They were trying to provoke him into selling his portion of the company to the big boss. Tiow wasn’t having any of it though. He gets a flash back about the time the customer discovered that the sugarcane were in poor quality. The big boss and his minions blamed it on him. From now on, he was determined to create only quality products.

We soon learn however that there were more bad blood between Tiow and the big boss than mere sugarcane quality. Apparently the big boss was after the company (trying to take sole ownership) to the extent of marrying his sisters. Now he only had Tiow’s additional shares in order to fully rule the company. Tiow believes that the big boss was responsible for his parents’ death.

Things for Tiow is only about to get worst.

When he got home his girlfriend was waiting for him, and pouting that he is taking his sweet time to ask for her hand in marriage. Tiow coaxed her that he will talk to her family tomorrow.

Unfortunately when tomorrow came, he discovered that his girlfriend had been sleeping with the big boss. She has signed up to be his third wife (although the big boss did promise that she will be number one..)

Devastated, Tiow vacates the premises but couldn’t stop thinking about their sweet moments together. This fueled Tiow to promise that he will reveal the big boss’ true colors. He wanted everyone to know what this man was capable of.

The following day, Ying’s father will be flying to England to ask for his friend’s help. He hopes that this will fix their financial woes. In the meantime, her mom has put together a birthday party for Ying as a means to find her a new potential groom- although Ying doesn’t know this. Why she is throwing a party and wasting money while they are struggling is beyond me. Even her older brother was against it. But they are all still moving forward with it.

So she says goodbye to her father as he makes his way to the airport.

What’s even more outrageous is that the big boss also wants to sign up to be her potential groom. Apparently three “wives” were not enough. He wanted them to serve him while Ying can be his real wife, due to her status and name. I swear, this man is relentlessly disgusting, especially his 80’s porn mustache.

His older sister feels bad for his actions and that she has to keep making up for them, she invites Tiow to the party too. She thinks he should start looking for a soul mate again. (Even though he just got dumped by his slutty girlfriend!)

He declines the invite as he recognized the face of the birthday girl. Yet the big boss’ sister said that she will see him at the party.

So will he go? What will Ying do to protect her family’s honor? The second episode preview indicated that her father will die, that she ends up in the midst of the antagonism between the big boss and Tiow. We also have some forced kisses! Will you tune in?

As for me, I’m not sure if this is my cup of tea. The pr’ek looks like he eats nails for breakfast, and I don’t fault his disposition because you know, he keeps getting screwed by the big boss. I’ve never seen Tle’s lakorn before, and to be honest, I’m not too crazy about him in this lakorn. I thought Kwan was lovely but that her character probably needs to be warmed up to. She appears proud and strong now but down the road, what will a princess do to keep her castle? I hope the answer is not anything as I would hate to see her agreeing to marry the nasty big boss.

Yeah, so I’m not sure if I will continue to recap or watch this. If anything I just want to see how the love story between Tiow and Ying unfolds, seems to be a lot of slap and kisses. Maybe you can keep me posted?

Dung Duang Haruthai on the other hand, is extremely interesting and currently inspiring dreams and thoughts of medieval times. The wardrobe is fabulous, Weir is just dreamy and Kwan is breathtaking. I think I’m going to keep watching DDH!

First Impressions, Num Baan Rai Gup Wanjai Hi-So

lovefia

Posted on May 27, 2012

I wonder if Chompoo Araya ever gets tired of playing a celebrity in lakorns? In her latest installment, Num Baan Rai Gup Wanjai Hi So, she is Nupdao, a wealthy socialite and celebrity who graces the front page of many magazines and newspapers. She was born into wealth however is currently experiencing some financial difficulties. Yet she continues to live her life the way she normally does, spending recklessly to save face. Until one day, when her fame ends and she is forced to find a different way to make a living. How will miss hi so cope?

After ten years since his first lakorn, Peter Corp Dyrendal has finally made an appearance. And I must say, what a pleasure to see his smiling face. Heck who am I kidding? He is as gorgeous as always, in his usual laid back and casual attire. He could grace a tractor magazine and still look hot. Must be the Thai-Danish blood. Anyway, how about his acting? Peter plays Prap, a Vet who loved animals more than humans, he’s giving yet is known to be “paak rai tae jai dee” which literally means “bad mouth but a good heart.” His character is very much that, he’s curt, honest and upfront. I appreciate that kind of character, at least you’ll always know where you stand with him. He’s not a sugar coater, to say the least.

As Thai lakorn blogs in English are already hard to come by, it is only about to get harder as we say goodbye to another good friend- LakornGods- an exceptional blog that provided recaps, reviews, headsup and perspective from Godninja surrounding the fascination of lakorns. We all have our dreams to chase and Godninja is going after hers- may she meet only success.

There is a lot of time and commitment that goes into hosting a site/blog dedicated to the fans. And sometimes it goes without notice. It gets tiring and you get burnt out. I can relate to the feeling of wanting to focus on your own aspirations as oppose to writing for others.. that is why it is a relief to create a personal blog where you can vent, commentate and write whatever you desire- to your heart’s content. Or even disappear for a little while without being missed too much. It’s a personal take on blogging about lakorns if you will. It’s why I do it.

But that is also why- as fans of lakorns- we should show our appreciation for sites like LG, Lynn’s Lakorn Blog, Dirty Laundry or even In With Lakorn- they strive to give us information and coverage regarding what we hold so dear to our hearts.

And for that reason, I am sad to see LakornGods go. Please be sure to stop by LG before it’s too late..

On Khun Suek:

It’s been a few days now since Khun Suek aired, how did it fare you may ask? It’s one of those lakorns that you need to be in the mood for, whether that is patriotic, “boran” (old fashion) or even sword fighting. One thing is clear; the quality of the recording (HD) and the setting is breathless. This is the positive side of things..

However, I’m not thrilled about the storyline nor the characters all that much. I mainly tuned in because Aum is the Warlord. We get to see him shirtless, kickass and well, hopefully get the girl. However, the love story is too quick for my liking. And the character development is just too spelled out for us. For instance, Aum’s character always wanted to be a soldier, a fighter. The opportunity presented itself where he gets to train under the best. He immediately meets Reirai (Ploy) where it’s love at first sight (on his end anyway.) Aum’s character is so straightforward and simple that I’m not compelled to learn more. Maybe it’s because the series just started. At any rate, the aesthetics is quite pleasing. And there’s definitely a patriotic message: we will fight and protect our country.

I did like some cute scenes between Sema and Reirai: the following screen shots depict a scene after Sema defies his superior and gets punished with a night in jail. Reirai visits him with food.

I’m just happy to see Aum again.. and Ploy.. even though I am not blown away.

Maybe my expectations are too high. Maybe I’m not in the mood. Maybe I’m just too sentimental because LG is going away.

But I’m still wanting, needing and wishing for something yet to sweep me off my feet..

Getting to know you

lovefia

Posted on April 26, 2012

April showers bring May flowers.

It’s an endearing term we use for Spring, one of the more pleasant of the four-seasons in North America, depending on who you ask. I love this time of the year: beginning of second quarter (if you’re in any industry that measures your performance based on quotas), end of tax season, tulips and blossoms galore, not to mention the wake of sports again. What I love most about it though, is the fact that I will be here to enjoy it. As oppose to last year, where I hijacked life in the state to live abroad in SE Asia.

You may have gleaned bits and pieces of my life through my lakorn posts but I’m still in the dark about you, the readers, fellow lakorn fans and kindred spirits. I’ve gotten the pleasure to get to know a few of you in the last year, but there are the majority of you, which surprisingly spans the globe- that I would love to know better.

Who are you?

Where are you from?

Tell me about your life.. and what you love about lakorns.

Silent readers, frequent visitors, and friends alike.. talk to me. If you have a blog or website, feel free to include as well, I love discovering new sites to explore.

And Life Goes On- Finale of MGD

lovefia

Posted on April 22, 2012

I was regretting that I didn’t watch the finale live this weekend. The sun was out, the flowers were blooming and it was the freakin’ weekend- as R. Kelly might point out. I had a great time sipping sangrias and throwing a BBQ. It’s how we roll in the Pacific Northwest when there is a semblance of sunshine.

So when Sunday finally rolled around and I caught up with the finale of Mam Gam Dang, I was glad I opted to enjoy life.

Because unfortunately, the ending was a total miss. It is almost as if Great Warinthorn (writer) or the director scratched their heads at the final fork in the road: I have all of these characters I’ve introduced, how will I finish them off? Let’s just create the most perplexing climax and closure of lakorns to date! Everything that I’ve enjoyed about Mam Gam Dang came crashing down..

Rather than talking about what I didn’t like (because to be honest, all of ep 13 was bad..) I’m going to relive what I liked about it instead. I love how Mam Gam Dang challenges the typical lakorn norms, I enjoyed and related to the strong attributes of our main leads and I thoroughly adored their progressive and eventual love story.

It is far from being a perfect lakorn, but it did managed to strike a chord with me, and for that, I truly appreciated it.

My Reaction (Rantings) to Ep11 of MGD

lovefia

Posted on April 15, 2012

What had Ana hoped for? Did she really think that she could escape this debacle unscathed?

When the plan commenced in London, she had nothing to lose. Why not help her friend out? Actually, she would be killing two birds with one stone. Pat wouldn’t have to marry Prae and May could have a chance with Pat. She also needed the money. It would be a shameless, totally wrong thing to do but she had her reasons.

What she hadn’t planned on happening was to grow fond of Pat’s parents and crush on his brother so truly and deeply. Now that the truth came out, Ana has so much more to lose.

Actions have consequences and this time around, I think that Ana has grown because of them.

I get it.

What I don’t get and what makes me angry are the responses from Pat’s parents and Nadol. Pat’s parents were warming up to her, defending her and even willing to accept her in place of Prae. Yet when the truth came out, it was like a switch being flipped. They just got nasty, back to their former selves. They moved forward with Pat’s engagement and turned their backs on Ana.

“Someone Like You”- Brief Thoughts on MGD Ep 10

lovefia

Posted on April 14, 2012

I find myself fangirling our main couple in Mam Gam Dang. When they’re together, spasm from yours truly inevitably follows.

In today’s episode (10) we witness Nadol going through a riot of emotion. He feels guilty, confused, in love and then angry with himself. He is such a tormented individual. And I keep wondering and anticipating his reaction when he finds out the truth. If the preview is any indication, the truth will be revealed in episode 11.

You must be wondering however, did the two schemes succeed? Meaning, did Pat-May succeed in bringing Nadol closer to Ana? Did Nina-Kate succeed in causing Ana to lose her pregnancy? Yes and no.
