2012 Lakorn Year in Review

lovefia

Posted on December 12, 2012

2012 brought forth an eclectic selection of lakorns, thereby creating only a limited number of lakorns that may suit our particular tastes. We have spiritual, sixth sense genre, romantic comedy, action and over the top melodrama. So if you are a romcom or action enthusiasts, than you may find only a few that makes it to your good and enjoyable lists. Good & Excellent The lakorns listed under good are surprising hits to me. I didn’t expect to enjoy them so much, because not only do they challenge the typical plots, they excelled in giving us a full story. Hong Sabat Lai is an action/melo drama about Nay who witnessed her parents massacre and was separated from her brother for ten years. She returns…

Mam Gam Dang- A Review

lovefia

Posted on July 17, 2012

Mam Gam Dang (Red-cheeked Madam) is a destination lakorn set in London where Anamika studies abroad with her three best friends, Metawee, Art and Napat. The drama introduces us to a Thai student’s life abroad, and how they remain in their familiar community: Ana works in a Thai restaurant and hangs out with her Thai friends- she even has Thai nemesis as well- creating a clear difference in social class even in a foreign country, yet indicating one’s need to connect with people of similar heritage. Since Ana and Mey are from the working class, they must work for a living while their wealthier counterparts peruse London’s expensive boutiques. One fine day, at the end of their term in London, Pat discovers that he…

And Life Goes On- Finale of MGD

lovefia

Posted on April 22, 2012

I was regretting that I didn’t watch the finale live this weekend. The sun was out, the flowers were blooming and it was the freakin’ weekend- as R. Kelly might point out. I had a great time sipping sangrias and throwing a BBQ. It’s how we roll in the Pacific Northwest when there is a semblance of sunshine. So when Sunday finally rolled around and I caught up with the finale of Mam Gam Dang, I was glad I opted to enjoy life. Because unfortunately, the ending was a total miss. It is almost as if Great Warinthorn (writer) or the director scratched their heads at the final fork in the road: I have all of these characters I’ve introduced, how will I finish…

My Reaction (Rantings) to Ep11 of MGD

lovefia

Posted on April 15, 2012

What had Ana hoped for? Did she really think that she could escape this debacle unscathed? When the plan commenced in London, she had nothing to lose. Why not help her friend out? Actually, she would be killing two birds with one stone. Pat wouldn’t have to marry Prae and May could have a chance with Pat. She also needed the money. It would be a shameless, totally wrong thing to do but she had her reasons. What she hadn’t planned on happening was to grow fond of Pat’s parents and crush on his brother so truly and deeply. Now that the truth came out, Ana has so much more to lose. Actions have consequences and this time around, I think that Ana has…

“Someone Like You”- Brief Thoughts on MGD Ep 10

lovefia

Posted on April 14, 2012

I find myself fangirling our main couple in Mam Gam Dang. When they’re together, spasm from yours truly inevitably follows. In today’s episode (10) we witness Nadol going through a riot of emotion. He feels guilty, confused, in love and then angry with himself. He is such a tormented individual. And I keep wondering and anticipating his reaction when he finds out the truth. If the preview is any indication, the truth will be revealed in episode 11. You must be wondering however, did the two schemes succeed? Meaning, did Pat-May succeed in bringing Nadol closer to Ana? Did Nina-Kate succeed in causing Ana to lose her pregnancy? Yes and no.

“Fallen” – Nadol’s Perspective in Mam Gam Dang

lovefia

Posted on April 13, 2012

It felt like it was an accident. It happened so fast, freely, out of his control. How did it happen? When did it happen? All Nadol knew was that it did. He had fallen in love with his sister in law, Ana. Past tense. The feelings- he was not aware of at the time- occurred in London when he first laid eyes on her, in her previous night’s cocktail dress and disheveled hair. When she shut the door in front of his face. When she toured him around London despite knowing that he was her husband’s irritable older brother. When he became worried of her pregnant conditions. When he became lost with her and grew closer to her- not because they were forced to-…

“What’s not to love”- Mam Gam Dang

lovefia

Posted on April 10, 2012

Oh, what a tease. We’ve gone from London to Bangkok to the island, yet before all of the fun begins, we shall await for Friday. There are so many reasons to love Mam Gam Dang. It is easy going, funny, enjoyable and utterly silly. Yet it dares to contradict the contrary. Most importantly, I think I have fallen in love with Matt Peeranee. The character she plays, Ana, embodies the ideal female with a weakness that is easily overlooked because she’s so real. The decisions she has made in life are warranted. I get it. She’s a girl you can hang out with, a girl you can call a friend. Then we have Chakrit who plays Nadol and vindicates why he remains as one…

Mam Gam Dang Ep 1 Impression

lovefia

Posted on March 29, 2012

There are two types of people in this world, people who support themselves and earn a living or people who rely on others to live. In “Red-cheeked Madam,” the social differences between the students studying abroad in London are still evident as you can see struggling college students trying to make ends meet while the richer of their counterparts shop at D&G. Yet, a group of four friends are able to set the differences aside and maintain their close friendship. They are Ana (Matt Peeranee), May (Woonsen), Art and Pat. Their future rests brightly ahead of them as they wrap up their graduation and prepare for their move back to Thailand. At the end of their final stint however, Pat (the richer of the…
