The Fall of Ayutthaya – The Start of Something New

lovefia

Posted on June 7, 2018

My first impressions of Neung Dao Fah Diew feel like a long time ago. In fact, it has been a long time ago, story wise. Since then Phor Kanthong has taken us on a journey of the literal fall of Ayutthaya, the most vibrant and flourishing era of the time. Not only is this a personal journey of a man who dedicates his life to uncovering the mystery of his parents’ death – by disguising as a eunuch no less – but this is a story of Ayutthaya as a character that dedicates her existence to protecting the Thai people but only to be destroyed by the very people she is protecting.

For the Love of Buppae Sanniwas

lovefia

Posted on April 5, 2018

Wow you guys, this episode 14. It’s another level, really. If you’re going to watch any lakorns this year – heck – if you’re going to watch any lakorns ever, do watch this. Just trust us crazy, bug bitten, fever ridden, fans of Buppae Sanniwas! I mean, have you guys seen me this hyped up about a lakorn before? Ok don’t answer that, I know I get pretty excited over some lakorns in the past. But I don’t believe I have loved, crushed, or obsessed this badly about both the hero and heroine. This is one of those shows where it keeps you wanting more, craving more, and falling in love with every cast of characters. They’re all really well written and it’s hard…

Romancing Ayutthaya– Buppae Sunniwas

lovefia

Posted on March 30, 2018

Three episodes left, you guys. Its tumultuous finale will air on April 11th, to be followed by 3 special episodes. I think it’s important to step back and reflect upon history and what has happened so far in our story: set in the 16th century, pitting a present day archaeology grad student among people of the Ayutthaya era. A comment from Khun Loong stood out for me, “She came because she needed to come.” What, pray tell could be her purpose in arriving in King Narai’s reign? It couldn’t possibly be to change history because our hero is a fictional character and isn’t impacted by history like Kosa Lek, Kosa Pan, Constantine Phaulkon, or the King himself and his future successors. We also know…

More Servings of Buppae Sunniwas, Please

lovefia

Posted on March 19, 2018

Have we all survived the long weekend without Buppae Sunniwas? I know some of you are rewatching for the umpteenth time and probably has memorized all of Khun Meun’s swoony stares, his close proximity to Katesurang every chance he gets (like dude can’t get any closer and I love it) and Katesurang’s ever constant vigil of staying exactly the same, which is why I love her. She’s strong, confident, sassy, and as fearless as they come. I wouldn’t wager to say that she’s a woman of our modern time, because she’s so much more than that. Her clever rebuttal, quick wit and knowledge seeking personality has really done a number on Khun Meun, you can slowly see how she has unraveled him from the…

Buppae Sunniwas [Open Thread] 3-8

lovefia

Posted on March 14, 2018

Squeee. Episode 7 was so good, I’m so sad there weren’t more to watch. I’m falling in love with Khun Muen falling in love with Katesurang. Every time he looks at her, I die a little inside (of the happy variety!) Wow, Pope is born to play an Ayuthayan man. And Katesurang? She’s the best friend you wish you had in Ayuthaya era. You’d think a little corporal punishment may deter her from venturing out, think again. I’m opening up this thread so we can discuss Buppae Sunniwas up to tomorrow’s episode. Life isn’t permitting me to delve deeply into writing reflections on this show thus far, but I’m up to deep discussions in the comment section. Tell me your thoughts – I will…

What I’m Watching: Kammathep Prab Marn

lovefia

Posted on July 19, 2017

I’m finally caught up with the remaining episodes (up to 6) of our final installment of the Cupid Series. This lakorn will end this weekend with 8 9 episodes. Perhaps a more apt title for this show ought to be Return of the Exes instead of Defeating Love since everyone and their mom’s exes will make an appearance. I felt that this show has smart characters, great looking cast and just beautiful directing and OST, and I’m obviously still sticking around to find out what happens with our Boss-Secretary couple, but it lacked the addicting factor for me. I kept going back and thinking about Hidden Love, which is still one of my favorites out of the series.

Sai Lap Rak Puan Maintains Its Charm

lovefia

Posted on July 26, 2016

And such a charming show it is. Show starts off with one of the strongest first impression in a long while, and maintains its charm, which is in turning a serious moment right into a laugh out loud moment. Then going from uproariously laughing to a fit of tears without losing its grip on the story. Reducing its viewers, at least me anyway, to an emotional mess. I think to myself, I am watching a funny show, but why am I crying?

Meur Prab Sai Diew- Channel 3’s Charlie’s Angels

lovefia

Posted on June 8, 2016

I’m just going to throw it out there, but where can I sign up to be one of Captain Chanin’s Charlie’s Angels? And where did Dream Natanop (yes his nickname is really Dream), the actor that plays Captain Chanin come from? Pardon my fangirling but Meur Prab Sai Diew – an evening lakorn at that – has really taken me by surprise. Of the best kind. I’m actually more surprised that this is not a primetime lakorn. So underrated, but highly addicting. For an evening drama, this show packs a lot of punch. Each hour goes by way too fast.

The Unraveling of Dao Kiang Duen

lovefia

Posted on August 4, 2014

I can accept a lot of imperfections in a lakorn – because let’s be honest – many lakorns seldom are perfect. So I let a lot of things slide. Unfortunately, it becomes quite a shame when a show with great potential seemingly unravels at the seam. From episode 6 onwards (we are at episode 9 now), Dao Kiang Duen has really lost its steam. For a show that could use tropes to its benefit, neighbors and paid assistant for example, they could essentially play this out until the cows come home. But instead, they opted for misunderstandings that tore a good team apart. When I say team, I’m referring to the characters that really made the show appealing to me: Khun Jan- Wiwit, Khun Jan…

The Star Beside the Moon – Ep 2-3 Thoughts

lovefia

Posted on July 20, 2014

If there were such a thing as a star beside the moon, then I would imagine that it would look something like the picture above: mysterious, contemplative, brooding. However, the tone of this lakorn, Dao Kiang Duen (which precisely means the star beside the moon) is the exact opposite: funny, entertaining, witty.
