2012 Lakorn Year in Review

Posted on December 12, 2012

2012 brought forth an eclectic selection of lakorns, thereby creating only a limited number of lakorns that may suit our particular tastes. We have spiritual, sixth sense genre, romantic comedy, action and over the top melodrama. So if you are a romcom or action enthusiasts, than you may find only a few that makes it to your good and enjoyable lists. Good & Excellent The lakorns listed under good are surprising hits to me. I didn’t expect to enjoy them so much, because not only do they challenge the typical plots, they excelled in giving us a full story. Hong Sabat Lai is an action/melo drama about Nay who witnessed her parents massacre and was separated from her brother for ten years. She returns…

Love in the Fresh Food Market- Final Impression (Review)

Rak Kerd Nai Talad Sod, Love (Happened) in the Fresh Food Market starring Mario Maurer and Margie (pronounced Makkie) Rasri will run its course in 12 episodes, a shorter than average stint as far as lakorn duration goes. The plot has a simple premise, to showcase the lives of market vendors in this fresh food market, most specifically Thong (Mario) who is a newbie, and how his entrance into the market, changed everyone’s lives accordingly. Thong is an easygoing kid from the countryside who came to help his sister in law’s vegetable booth due to her high-risk pregnancy. He falls in “love at first sight” with Kim-Lang (Margie) who was the daughter of Kim-Huay, a fish vendor, and highly feared at the market. Unfortunately…

Small Favors- Love in the Fresh Food Market

Posted on August 19, 2012

It’s amazing how much fast forwarding I’ve done in this weekend’s episodes of Love in the Fresh Food Market and still have a grasp of what is going in the storyline. There are good and bad aspects of that, good because I get to watch only Thong and Kim-Lang’s scenes, bad because that means majority of the scenes are taken up by side characters and uninteresting subplots. Silliness and secondary characters do not appeal to me, especially Nada and Chai, whose storyline about revenge and rape takes over the spot light and screen time for our main characters. It is a total miss for me, unfortunately. I’m begging P’Off to go easy on the subplots and give me more meat. I know he wants…

More than what meets the eyes – Love in the Fresh Food Market

“Let me stop breathing is easier” (หยุดหายใจง่ายกว่า)- Kala (Ending OST of Love in the Fresh Food Market, Fia’s translations) I am aware that I don’t have the right.. I don’t even have the hope to think about loving you. But the more I am around you, the more I fall in love with you. What should I do, I can’t find my way out. Every breath I take is you, every minute there is you. My mind has only you. How can I stop loving you? Let me stop breathing is easier. My heart has a problem, that I cannot control. It doesn’t matter if you don’t love me, I just want to love someone real, for once. If I shall be disappointed, it…

Love in the Fresh Food Market- First Impressions

High-res version

Needing a reprieve from the all encompassing drama of This Land is Our Land, I turned to a new lakorn that promises to be lighthearted, laugh out loud funny and endearing- Rak Kerd Nai Talad Sode- which I will be calling Love in the Fresh Food Market moving forward. This drama is a remake of Andrew Gregson’s lakorn of 2001- needless to say that many of Andy’s lakorns are slowly getting remade like Torranee- this year’s version of Love in the Fresh Food Market brings about a different personality to our leading man’s character, Thong. With Act Art Production and director Off Pongpat (of Roy Mai and Wayupak Montra) along with Mario Maurer as Thong and Margie Rasri as Kim-Lang, this lakorn may just give us a run for our money.

Mario is not a newbie by any means, he is already renown on the silver screen, and debuted on a TV series Plerng Toranong, but surprisingly there is so much more depth to this actor than a serious, cute Plerngrit from Ranong. As Thong, Mario portrayed a funny, fearless and honest vegetable vendor to a tee. The personality he brings to Thong is lively and I feel- the best part about this drama. I find myself tuning into Love in the Fresh Food Market just to see what Thong will do or say next. Not to mention that Mario’s quirky, adorable face makes his character even more appealing.
