Another trip around the sun

Feature article

lovefia

Posted on December 20, 2022

Since we all made it another year around the sun, let’s pat ourselves on the back and do a little reflecting on the year gone by, which in all honesty, is the hardest thing to do. Even I prefer to forget about the past and try to leave it all behind. But sometimes, the only way to learn is to reflect, change things up and think about how we can do better. The biggest prediction that Twitter would go down was one of the more interesting predictions. I mean, there is still a jury out on that, but when I stopped using Twitter, I free up so much time. I do not plan on going back, since I am enjoying this newfound freedom. But…

A Belated Year-End

lovefia

Posted on January 3, 2021

Happy New Year, Lovelies. We survived 2020, so I figure it’s time to take stock of what I’ve seen this year, and perhaps extend a hopeful “resolution” to the universe in 2021. Covid made sure I stayed home for most of 2020. Once the first couple of months of cabin fever wears off, I started on what could only be called a drama binge that lasts the rest of the year, spanning through three different countries style of storytelling. Take a look at the list below, do you see which country I’ve been camping in the most? And what is sorely lacking?

A Year of Great Lakorn Heroes

lovefia

Posted on December 30, 2018

The year in lakorns has been a pleasantly surprising year of good lakorns, featuring great actors in many great roles. This doesn’t always happen, sometimes I thank my lucky stars if I get to watch one spectacular lakorn a year. But 2018 production teams and channel elders have really stepped up their game, taking us through various parts of history, inviting us into the lives and homes of characters that have staying power, and a writing, directing and acting team so committed to the storytelling that it leaves us aching long after the credits roll.

Looking Forward

lovefia

Posted on December 27, 2017

Dearest Readers, How are you? Happy belated everything – Christmas, Birthday, New Years – wait I’m not late on that. I hope the year has been kind to you. As you know, this year has been an eventful one for me personally. I welcomed the birth of my second (and last!) son – who is now 7 months old. I’ll let that sink in. I’ve aged a year wiser too and much of my day is wrapped up in work, play (with kiddos, another type of fun), eat, breathe – rinse, repeat. But in between the daily grind and the sleepless nights, there’s an indescribable magic. I look at these two adorable faces (and one older, very handsome face too) and I think there’s…

2014 Lakorn Year In Review

lovefia

Posted on December 29, 2014

It’s that time of the year again, and for once, I am happy to say that it hasn’t been difficult to pick my favorite lakorn of the year – especially since I did not watch many lakorns to its completion. With a year full of anticipated lakorns, one understated lakorn came and swept me by surprise: Spinsters and Casanovas (Kuan Kaantong Gup Gang Por Pla Lai). With its witty and smart writing, loveable (relatable) characters, and charismatic pairings, Spinsters offered a story about friendship, finding peace with yourself (and your age) as well as love, even when it mired against traditional expectations.

Lakorn Chatter – What’s up 2014?

lovefia

Posted on May 22, 2014

Since today marks the first day of lovefia.com (but many days – in fact years – for lovefia.wordpress.com), and since June is also creeping up on us, I think it is apt to take stock of the lakorn that has aired thus far, as well as upcoming anticipated lakorns for the remainder of 2014. When I was much younger, and when lakorns used to be on VHS and you’d have to go to the video store to rent them, I watched everything – from Channel 7 to Channel 3 and even Channel 5- no exceptions. Lakorns will not be ignored. As time goes by and my days, hours, and minutes are taken up by work and life, I have to be a little more…

FireShot Screen Capture #028 - 'Your 2013 year in blogging' - lovefia_wordpress_com_2013_annual-report

Winner winner chicken dinner!

You’ve participated in a reader’s choice for best lakorn in 2013, and with the combination of unlimited voting- and obviously lots of refreshing and re-voting- you have given one particular lakorn the trophy: Exact’s Sud Sai Paan starring Vill Wannarot and Toomtam Yuthana with a total of 1,404 votes. So congratulations Sud Sai Paan fans, may your computer thank you for the closure of this poll.

Suparburoot Juthathep Series came in second with 574 votes and Nuea Mek 2 won third place! Complete with a double take!  We are talking about a controversial lakorn that never got its finale aired, really, the first in primetime television. But the people have spoken and I thank you for your voice.

Before we leave 2013 behind us, I would like to share some significant blogging milestones and stats to aid in this reflection. I certainly didn’t start blogging for numbers, and my fellow bloggers would probably agree that blogging is fun when we write about what we want to write about. Sounds intuitive right? But it’s not always easy to accomplish, because it can start out being rather scary. You’re putting yourself out there, your thoughts, perspectives (and need I say outrage) to the world wide web. Will people agree with you? Are you over thinking it? Will they hate what you have to say? Heck, would they even care?

Reader’s Weigh-in (2013 Lakorn Year End Review) [Poll!]

lovefia

Posted on December 17, 2013

Is the end of the year really upon us? Perhaps if I keep saying this, time will slow down? This year is not the most productive lakorn watching year for me, in spite of the collage of lakorns you see in the picture above. I find myself seemingly stuck in the former half of the year, praising primarily the Gentlemen Series. This has more to do with my out of control work schedule and busy social life for the latter half of the year, then the desire not to watch lakorns. Because I wish I have time to watch everything. Who doesn’t love a story world that takes you away from your normal world? A la the Gentlemen Series, we’ve been given an outstanding…

Happy November – Lakorn Year End Check In

The adorable Nadech Yaya, thanking their fans for 100K likes on facebook.

If you don’t want to write a novel in a month, there is another writing challenge: write a blog post every day for the month of November. It’s called NaBloPoMo haha, WordPress comes up with the most interesting of acronyms. If you opt to participate in this challenge, please feel free to post your blog link on the comment section below. And if you’re blogging specifically about lakorns for this entire month, then that’s doubly awesome. Go you! Yay us!

What do you remember this year?

A reader posted an awesome question in the previous open thread about ‘wow’ lakorns. This got my wheels turning. Lakorn watching is clearly subjective, because what I find interesting can be a meh to you. However, I think a wow lakorn is pretty universal, it’s wow in all aspect of the writing, directing, acting- and the all important cast chemistry. For example, it would be difficult to admit that Sood Saneha wasn’t a wow lakorn and didn’t deserve it’s accolades.

What seems to be embedded in my memory this year are the Khunchais, is it a coincidence? Do the elders of Channel 3 get together one fine day, mayhaps towards the end of 2012 and say, ‘well, I reckon we’ll make 2013 a Khunchai year?’ From the palace of Juthathep, to the mystery of Rangsiya and finally to the finely sculpted pecks of Khunchai Jantarapanu, it’s hardly surprising that we are on this Khunchai train. Nevertheless, I welcome the period train and the modern take, because at the end of the day, these lakorns reiterate that we need more gentlemen in our lives. Most importantly, we don’t need a spotless pedigree to preserve our values and fight for what we believe in.

2013 Semi-Half Yearly Lakorns in Review

lovefia

Posted on May 14, 2013

This year thus far has been an incredible year for lakorns. I’ve decided to compile a semi half year review as oppose to attempting to review an entire year’s worth of lakorns in one post. What is surprising to me though, is that in looking at the list of lakorns that I’ve personally watched, there aren’t many. The ones that I did end up tuning into however, are oh so good. Quality over quantity, no? The diverse and variety of lakorns released on the small screen this year are rather refreshing. We have controversies surrounding Neua Mek2– which is actually a really good lakorn emphasizing more on good overcoming evil- but apparently the government didn’t like the comparison so much- resulting in the first…
