Ploy Chermane in Pim Mala

lovefia

Posted on July 22, 2011

I think I’m in love with Ploy, in the non traditional variety. I’ve never seen her act this way, charming, funny, beautiful all rolled into one as she dominates episode two. We now know that Priew (Aum) has turned into Pim Mala (Ploy) and must obey Angel Rumpa’s orders or do as she bids in order to redeem himself, literally. We see that Pim Mala couldn’t accept it at first and constantly tries to turn herself into a man again. However, she discovers that her dad is in the hospital and she needed to make sure she can be herself again- that is, himself again for his father. (Trying to be gender correct is terribly difficult when we’re in this situation.)

It feels like forever since I last seen Aum’s lakorn. His presence is dearly missed. Note to celebrities, try not to stay out of the lime light for too long, your fans can get distracted. Unless you’re Tik Jessadaporn, then you can be gone for three years and still come back with an award. Well, it’s not like Aum was gone that long, his latest lakorn was Koo Dued which is more brother drama than romance. I just miss his more romantic endeavors, like the last lakorn with Taew. Also lately, there are so many wonderful pr’eks out there to adore as well: Om, Mario, Great, Pong, Por etc. I guess it is a good problem to have for the lakorn fans. Thailand is so lucky to have so many talented and good looking celebrities to compete for our fandom.

Saochai Hi-Tech

Jilted at the alter on his wedding day, Non Ratsameemarn (Om Akapan) isolates himself from his family and society to nurse his broken heart. Angry, senile and depressed, Non relinquishes his responsibilities and refuses to leave his bedroom. The state of his deterioration concerns his grandmother to no end and she grabs desperately at the last string of hope when she meets Reuangrin Narokmon (Jui Warattaya), a promising and young therapist. With the help of Rin’s longtime friend Niya (Amy Klinpratoom), grandmother proposes a unique job offer to Rin. For four million baht, will she agree to heal Non’s troubled state by pretending to be a maid, and be able to do it in three months? Desperate for money to help pay the debt of her family’s cleaning business, Rin reluctantly takes the job. However, she slowly gets entangled in her web of lies and comes to realize that she won’t be able to leave this job emotionally unscathed.

Saochai Hi-Tech is a romantic comedy lakorn that will make you laugh out loud with mirth, shake your head with exasperation and cry with Rin as her life will never be the same again. What amazes me the most is that it is unexpectedly good, plain and simple. The main characters are unknown to me, aside from Om who I’ve seen as the supporting actor in Sapai Glai Peun Tiang with Anne Thongprasom, and who I felt almost stole the show from Chakrit- almost is the imperative word because Chakrit is an amazing actor. I thought Om in SGPT was tall, manly and a capable actor. But in Saochai, he takes his acting to another level. There is no awkwardness and there’s something about him that glues my eyes to the tv. It also helps that he is paired up with the lovely and unassuming Jui. I am impressed by her acting, she’s very natural and she really grows on you. Jui’s beauty is not the type that stuns you per say, but the more you watch her, coupled with her acting and chemistry with Om, she is beautiful. And that’s how I like my actresses.

Plerng Toranong – Ep 5 on 7/17/2011

My favorite episode thus far! By way of quick summary for episode 5, Plerng took off his godawful jump suit and wore a black suit without a tie, which accentuated his light skin and flawless face. He looked exceptionally handsome. This episode also marked the end of Numfon and Nat’s engagement and more cute scenes between our two main characters.

Episode 4 produces more one on one scenes with Plerng and Numfon.

Last episode the company is aware of a thief who is stealing diamonds and putting fake ones in it’s place. After assigning each jewelry maker a task, Plerng notices Somchai acting suspicious and hiding something in his sock so he decided to investigate. When he brought this to Uncle Root’s attention, they decided to look at some of the jewelry that was made by Somchai and sure enough, Somchai has used fake diamonds. Because Uncle Root feels that Plerng only has three months to complete his task, he didn’t want to waste Plerng’s time and decided to keep investigating the problem on his own. He is determined to find out who is behind this, whether that person works for the company or an outside party. In the meantime he told Plerng and the division manager to keep it a secret. Nat discovers that his accomplice is taking a leave from the company and decides to lay low.

Plerng Toranong – Ep 3 on 7/15/2011

Friday could not come soon enough. The highly anticipated episode 3 of Plerng Tornanong is here and let the family drama ensue!

Plerng and his mom arrived at the Chatiyotin’s household and his mom began to ponder why his father would ever leave this house in the first place. I would second her on that because the mansion is beautiful; tasteful wooden staircase and high ceiling decorates the open floor plan. But Plerng assures his mom that his father gave everything up because he loved her. But Boot has plans to make Plerng’s life miserable so she relegated them to stay at a small cabin in the garden. She claims that since they don’t have Kon Ying’s permission, they have no right to stay in Pipat’s old bedroom. And everyone concede.

A Crazy Little Thing Called Love

lovefia

Posted on July 12, 2011

The premise of the story revolves around Nam (Pimchanok), a 14 year old girl who falls in love with her senior, Shone (Mario) and tries to do everything in her power to get his attention, whether it is looking prettier, smarter or more accomplished. It is based on a true story- everyone’s true story according to the director, albeit with an ideal twist. How many true stories about an ugly duckling trying to attract the high school heartthrob derives a happily ever after? Only in the ugly duckling’s dreams and that is why I adore this movie so much. It gives the viewers hope and a poignant lesson. And besides, who wants to watch a depressing story about the mundane of life anyway? Viewers want to live vicariously through someone else’s life, preferably when the ordinary becomes extraordinary.

The story’s message drives home when Nam, after three years of obsession over Shone, takes the chance, the biggest moment of her life and admits her love for the boy she pines after for three grueling years. Throughout the movie thus far, Nam has fallen in love with Shone for his goodness, kindness and heroic endeavor. He is the reason why she transforms into a beautiful and stronger person. Shone is the ultimate hero in her eyes and for good reason. It is very easy to fall in love with him and we don’t fault her. So in this climactic scene, Nam meets him at the pool and is prepared to lay her heart on the line. It is the end of the year as she knows it and Shone will be playing football. It is now or never. She approaches him with a nervous smile and notices that he has the camera again. The boy likes to take pictures, of only nature he once said, but funny how he always snaps her pictures. Nam looks Shone in the eyes and says, “P’Shone, I have something to tell you.” As she begins, she also realizes the lesson that she has learned throughout the years and admits it to him. “I should have told you this long ago, I love you,” (in Thai she actually said I like you, but it’s a momentous occasion, I Love You is completely appropriate.) “I’ve loved you for three years. I’ve done everything to get you to notice me,” Nam continues explaining to him how much she has tried.. and finally, after getting everything off her chest, she smiles hopefully and tearfully at him, only to notice the heartbreaking words on his shirt. Pin Loves Shone. And when her eyes connect with his and the tears fall, my heart goes out to her. How many times in how many lives has this realization occur? When you realize that all is lost? That you really cannot have this person? And that everything is too late? So Nam stammers, “You are well suited,” and admits defeat, trying to walk away graciously. But she falls into the pool, gets out while soaked wet, “You are well suited” she repeats and muffles a cry in between her hands. It was heartbreaking to watch her walk out, her love unrequited, her friends crying as they watch her walk away and to pour salt on wound, Nam sees Pin as she walks out. Nam hugs her as if congratulating her and perhaps to console herself that Pin is a better person, she deserves him and that ultimately all of the sacrifice Nam has made is for naught.

Plerng Toranong – Ep 1 on 7/9/2011

Some things are meant to be. After watching “A Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” I am hooked on Mario. Coincidentally, it just so happens that his first lakorn is currently airing on Ch.3 today, from 8:30pm-10:30pm. What blind luck, because I happen to walk back to my apartment after my massage and caught the first episode. I recall DL’s post about Mario being confident about his first drama and thought, why shouldn’t he? The guy is a natural! I can’t even stop staring at his cute face.
