Fai Nai Wayu (Fire in the Storm) – Episode 2

An episode of cinematic beauty and poignant score, Fai Nai Wayu continues to surprise me. The directing is really something else. But let’s get into the story. Huge revelations are made, by yours truly that is, and I’m glad that the story doesn’t drag us along wondering who the real Khun Wayu is, because our hero already has quite the mystery to unravel. Not to mention, prove his innocence. There are still layers yet left to peel. So let’s peel away.

Coming to us every Wednesday and Thursday is Fai Nai Wayu, starring Aum Atichart and Matt Peeranee courtesy of TV Scene Productions, bringing to us a tale about a mysterious man who finds himself staying at a quiet resort to sort out his beguiling problems, where he meets the resort owner’s niece, who is more curious about him and ready to fight his battles- especially when he feels that there’s no hope left for him. Besides, it’s Aum Atichart, how can I resist? Let’s see if I remember how to do this..

Nai Suan Kwan – First Impression

Melodrama is the name of the game in this newest weekend installment, Nai Suan Kwan, which aired its premier episode this past Sunday. Headlining this new channel 3 lakorn is Boy Pakorn and Margie Rasri, produced by TV Scene. Two years and three lakorns respectively later, the pair ‘Bargie’, has reunited to bring more smiles to their shipping fans. And what’s better than to star in a romantic drama, all together with cutesy animal names and a story centering around family conflicts and.. a beautiful garden?

The story opens with Peck-pook (Margie) driving her father to their newly acquired home. The cinematography is nothing shy of perfection, with clear and crisp HD quality, while the score hints of sadness that indicates even though this father-daughter duo is buying a new home- a cause for celebration for many people- is actually quite a sad event for them. But.. why so sad?

lakorns2014

When was the last time you were head over heels in love with a lakorn? It has been awhile, hasn’t it? This new year however seems promising, in that the lakorns we thought would have aired in 2013, would most likely air this year! Yay us! Since channel 3 released their upcoming lakorns for 2014, it’s safe to assume that at least our highly anticipated ones will be featured in prime time TV, and soon.

A year in lakorn blogging 2013

FireShot Screen Capture #028 - 'Your 2013 year in blogging' - lovefia_wordpress_com_2013_annual-report

Winner winner chicken dinner!

You’ve participated in a reader’s choice for best lakorn in 2013, and with the combination of unlimited voting- and obviously lots of refreshing and re-voting- you have given one particular lakorn the trophy: Exact’s Sud Sai Paan starring Vill Wannarot and Toomtam Yuthana with a total of 1,404 votes. So congratulations Sud Sai Paan fans, may your computer thank you for the closure of this poll.

Suparburoot Juthathep Series came in second with 574 votes and Nuea Mek 2 won third place! Complete with a double take!  We are talking about a controversial lakorn that never got its finale aired, really, the first in primetime television. But the people have spoken and I thank you for your voice.

—

Before we leave 2013 behind us, I would like to share some significant blogging milestones and stats to aid in this reflection. I certainly didn’t start blogging for numbers, and my fellow bloggers would probably agree that blogging is fun when we write about what we want to write about. Sounds intuitive right? But it’s not always easy to accomplish, because it can start out being rather scary. You’re putting yourself out there, your thoughts, perspectives (and need I say outrage) to the world wide web. Will people agree with you? Are you over thinking it? Will they hate what you have to say? Heck, would they even care?

Reader’s Weigh-in (2013 Lakorn Year End Review) [Poll!]

lovefia

Posted on December 17, 2013

lovefialakorns2013

Is the end of the year really upon us? Perhaps if I keep saying this, time will slow down?

This year is not the most productive lakorn watching year for me, in spite of the collage of lakorns you see in the picture above. I find myself seemingly stuck in the former half of the year, praising primarily the Gentlemen Series. This has more to do with my out of control work schedule and busy social life for the latter half of the year, then the desire not to watch lakorns. Because I wish I have time to watch everything.

Who doesn’t love a story world that takes you away from your normal world? A la the Gentlemen Series, we’ve been given an outstanding world, loveable characters and so many new pairings to fangirl over. If we can get four exceptional lakorns out of the year, that is more than I can say for prior years. Other standout lakorns this year are Dao Kiaw Duen, for meeting its lighthearted romcom expectations, and ironically, as much as I harp about 3 Taharn Suea Sao Series, I found some entertainment value from it, namely Mon Jantra.

‘What money can buy’ in Nok’s Opinion – ‘Samee’

lovefia

Posted on December 5, 2013

samee2013

A lot of things, certainly, Nok surmise. He is Khun Rarb’s bitch, so indebted and grateful for all that Khun Rarb has done for him that he willingly, voluntarily offers to do all of the dirty work for his best friend, master and angel from above. If Khun Rarb hadn’t been the charming bastard that he is, Nok’s assumed job wouldn’t have been so pleasant.

But heaven above, it’s a fucked up world these rich people live in. Being the loyal and obedient miser that he is, Nok merely observe quietly to himself. He dare not utter his opinions nor offer recriminations. He only ponders and carries out any orders. But you can’t blame him for his thoughts. In fact, you don’t.

One of Nok’s daily responsibilities is to watch over Khun Rarb’s muse, her name is See. They (Khun Rarb and See) have been getting it on for a while now, under strict agreement that matrimony is not at the end of the road. Nok ensures that See is provided for, she receives an allowance, a townhome, and usually other trinkets she require. But when things started getting serious on one side (you could figure out which), Nok doesn’t even blink an eye when he has to take on another role: as her fake brother. Well, in front of the public’s eye, that is. Namely in front of a Khun Ying Rasika, Khun Rarb’s current obsession.

Madam Butchi’s Backstory – ‘Madam Dun’

lovefia

Posted on December 3, 2013

Being a star isn’t always pretty or glamorous. There are aspects of the profession that can be downright dishonest, disgusting and tainted. This show does not romanticize the entertainment industry for being the glitz and glam that it appears to be, but the show puts bad management in the spotlight. If chosen poorly, one can severely be taken advantage of.

Case in point, Ann, Madam Butchi’s beloved friend. In the past, Madam Butchi is merely Paksi, Ann’s sidekick. The two had promised to stick together and pursue the stardom (with Paksi being the rock of course.) They meet the renowned Je who turns Ann into a star, and utilizes Paksi like a slave. In retrospect, this taught Paksi all there is to know about the entertainment industry.

Unfortunately Paksi learns that Je has manipulated (sold) Ann to the highest bidder. As Paksi storms into Ann’s hotel room, it is all too late, because the distraught Ann blows her own head off due to the self respect and dignity she lost. This explains clearly the conflict and competition between Paksi-who is now Madam Butchi- and Je. Butchi vows to seek retribution for her deceased friend: she will find a way to strip Je of his respect and reputation. That also explains the tell-all book.  Je denies all claims, and is adamant that he had nothing to do with Ann’s death.

The familial world of Samee

Screen Shot 2013-12-02 at 7.25.04 PM

Do you care for a family drama? Perhaps with a side of nobility- old money meets new money- as well as swallowing enough pride to save your legacy? Samee (Husband) our mid week lakorn, is about to take us for an unforgettable ride, in that we’ve been here before, 13 years ago to be exact.

This time around Grate Warintorn and Pream Ranida, from Khun Chai Tharatorn, reunites with a slew of dense, memorable cast. Pream takes on the role of Mom Ratchawong Rasika (Khun Ying Eye) who has been brainwashed since childhood to hate Jao Sua, a wealthy Chinese man. Ying Eye is a proud, stubborn woman who holds on to the last thread of her legacy even when she learns that her daddy drove the family wealth into destitute after his unfortunate death. She vowed to keep their palace in tact.

And then there’s Mario: Madam Dun

lovefia

Another heartthrob premiered his newest lakorn, Madam Dun this past Monday, and if his experience in movies and lakorns are any indication, Mario Maurer has proven that he has the acting chops. He plays Next or Bakma, a country bumpkin who recently graduated and must decide his fate. Should he follow in his adopted parent’s footsteps and pursue teaching, or chase this deep-seated dream of finding his biological father? Next has never entertained his dreams before, until he meets the down and out celebrity agent Madam Butchi, who gives him a way out.

The saucy Ploy Chermarn plays Madam Butchi, and their real life age difference is similar to the age difference in the storyline. About 7 years apart, Madam Butchi is an ambitious agent who writes a tell-all book about the entertainment industry. Her nemesis- I’m going to call him the other “gay” agent played by Chai- dislikes seeing her successful book and he sues her for the content. He wins the case in court and Madam Butchi’s reputation gets tarnished.  Her life as she knows it, is over. Unless she can find the next big thing and redeem her image.
