Posted on November 4, 2012

Nong is in an awkward position. Her two best friends are supposedly dating each other, yet Amika is telling her that she is dreaming about another man while Nong witnesses Pong getting comfortably close with Khun Aon. As a friend, should she say something? Or should she watch this relationship unfold on its own? She stands by the corner of the catwalk stage observing how Amika cheers on Khun Tum while Pong cheers on Khun Aon. Suddenly Khun Tum is confused and doesn’t follow his queue so Nong prepares Amika for the stage to rescue the show. She hooks her arm around Khun Tum and walks him to each corner of the stage to strike a pose. In the middle of the stage Aim…

In the prep room Khun Cheun tells Cha-aim that she has done a nice job with Tum’s make up, he looks handsome and natural. She asks Cha-aim to fix her makeup as well, which irritates Khun Aon, so she goes and gets herself a glass of water. Unfortunately the water went down the wrong tube and she starts choking vehemently. When she is able to speak, only a croak escapes her mouth. Her mother panics and starts to shake her, hoping it will bring back her voice. Their performance is only minutes away. Tum surmises that they might have to forego their duet. But Cha-aim has a bright idea as she tells Khun Aon to proceed as normal. Walking towards the stage, Khun Aon…

Kitchen Scholar Ep 4

It’s so funny to watch Tum try to find fault with Cha-aim. He’s clearly visiting his uncle so he could see her and he goes out of his way to find her, but when he is actually talking to her, he takes on his suspicious, accusatory tones instead. Such is the case in the onset of this episode, he sees her walking suspiciously in the garden, a pink something hiding behind her back. Earlier Aim discovers that her tablet would not turn on and panics because her entire research notes are stored there. After bringing it to Pong’s attention and he is able to fix it, she made her way back to the house to find that Khun Tum again, questioning her. She tries…

Kitchen Scholar Ep 3

Posted on November 1, 2012

Witnessing Cha-aim holding hands with different guys is a recurring nuisance for Tum. Earlier she pretended to loose her wallet in front of the restaurant and now she is standing, hand in hand with the fat guy. Even he couldn’t steer away from her, how could he blame anyone else? Lol. Cha-aim consoles Waen that Tum is merely a friend. Apparently Waen has a crush on her too and he tells her that even though she is seeing Pong, he would always wait for her. Cha-aim is relieved that she could get rid of him, not knowing that Tum is watching them from across the mall. Meanwhile Pong is trying to steal Khun Aoy’s cell phone. But the little girl is possessive and smart…

Tum braces Cha-aim’s fall, catching her around the waist. He notices her feet are still on the rung of the ladder and he devilishly smiles at her, roughly pulling her to the ground where she lands with a thud. He steps away and laughs at his handy work while she moans in pain and irritation. Picking a fight with her, Tum instigates that her fellow coyotes were on the news about getting arrested. Cha-aim indignantly tells him that she is not like one of them and tries to walk away. Tum still has a few things left to contend with her so he held her wrist to stop her from running away, but Khun Aon sees this and comes to his side. He does…

Kitchen Scholar Ep 1

Panyachon Kon Krua opens with a hustle and bustle. The collective students at the University are preparing to put on a show at the auditorium. The worst nightmare for any student is to wake up late for this special event. But such is the case for our leading lady, Amika, who rouses from a deep sleep at 8am, when she should have been at the school, preparing for her performance. Amika is great at thinking on her feet though, which is a resourceful skill to have, so she quickly hails a cab, changes in the back seat into her costume and when traffic deems impossible to get there in time for her show, she hops on the motor taxi and bypasses the gridlock. She…

Overthinking Panyachon Kon Krua

lovefia

Posted on October 29, 2012

Fast paced, funny, silly, and romantic are a few words to describe Panyachon Kon Krua thus far. The weekend’s installment, although lighthearted, still offers an emotional ride as we watch our nang ek Amika, receive more than what she signed up for. Her goal is to gain research material to write a show stopping script for her drama competition and achieve her dream of studying in New York. It is an innocent desire, a little white lie that she deems will not hurt anyone. But she never imagined to change and be changed so much, by it all. Amika turns the household and employers to her cast of characters, slowly peeling away their layers, revealing a pretty dynamic cast. There is depth, contradictions and…

How do you tell the man of your dreams that you have to take a sh–?

There is a time and place for everything. But when the need to excrete happens in the wrong time and place, things can get a little muddled, as Amika (Kimberly Voltemas) learned or Tum (Mark Prin) didn’t learn. It was the masquerade charity ball and everyone is dressed up in cocktail dresses and tuxes with a fancy mask. Amika had been eating junk food prior and realized upon entering the ball, that her stomach didn’t feel so great. She excused herself to the restroom to take care of the problem, hoping that will rid the need for now. She felt so much lighter and relieved. That’s when she met him, Tum, a handsome gentlemen who offered her a drink and accompanied her on the…

Demi Gods Semi Devils- A Review

lovefia

Posted on October 22, 2012

I forget how impactful Jin Yong’s storytelling could have on me. From the adaptations of the Condor Heroes Trilogy in the 80’s and 90’s, as well as the Heavenly Sword tale, these epic series opened me to a world of wuxia; its heroes, heroines, values and relationships. In essence, it molded my young mind and set the standard for excellence in dramas to come. It made me forlornly wished that I could read Chinese so that I may endeavor to read JY’s masterpieces. Yet, witnessing the book come to life certainly has its own merits. I may not know what will happen next, but it makes getting swept by its epic-ness all the more worthwhile. This latest adventure (latest in my book, not reality)-…

A Warrior’s Heart- Demi Gods Semi Devils

lovefia

Posted on October 18, 2012

Hu Jun as Qiao Feng. Who knew? The biggest surprise yet in Demi Gods Semi Devils is my sudden attraction to Qiao Feng. I could feel the tides turning. On first impression, Hu Jun’s features are ordinary and I thought to myself, maybe I am as shallow as Duan Yu? But Qiao Feng could not be ignored for long. He simply took me by the lapels and forced my wavering eyes on him. Towering almost an inch above 6 feet- Qiao Feng epitomizes a warrior- from the top of his thick mane, to the tips of his calloused feet. He simply is a formidable man, exuding raw masculinity and his take no prisoner attitude. He makes Duan Yu look like a little boy, albeit…
