Character Ponderings of Kitchen Scholar (Ep8&9)

lovefia

Posted on November 6, 2012

What is not to love about Kitchen Scholar? Every episode warms our hearts and makes us anticipate the next hurdle. We are very close to our climax- the inevitable truth about Cha-aim’s identity- and whether the ending will satisfy our avid dedication to this series. What I would say though, is that the romance between Mr. Tum and Cha-aim is so gradual and believable and the character developments for our core cast is well done. Starting with Mr. Tum, it took one episode (Ep 8)- which is a few days in the lakorn world- for Mr. Tum to decide to throw caution and society’s disapproval to the wind. At first he is a little depressed that he is in love- with a maid to…

Overthinking Panyachon Kon Krua

lovefia

Posted on October 29, 2012

Fast paced, funny, silly, and romantic are a few words to describe Panyachon Kon Krua thus far. The weekend’s installment, although lighthearted, still offers an emotional ride as we watch our nang ek Amika, receive more than what she signed up for. Her goal is to gain research material to write a show stopping script for her drama competition and achieve her dream of studying in New York. It is an innocent desire, a little white lie that she deems will not hurt anyone. But she never imagined to change and be changed so much, by it all. Amika turns the household and employers to her cast of characters, slowly peeling away their layers, revealing a pretty dynamic cast. There is depth, contradictions and…

Keeping up with the recent: Autumn, Tanchai & Tawan Tor Sang

lovefia

Posted on September 26, 2012

Autumn is finally here in the Pacific Northwest, a welcoming change from the hot, drizzle free summer. I love the feel of the brisk, cool air that greets me every morning. Brown leaves, pumpkin spiced lattes and a thin scarf are endearing things to this time of year. Who doesn’t love Autumn? I like how lakorns are steering towards an Autumn-feel trend too. Starting with The Sixth Sense where heightened senses are used to barter with ghosts and spirits. And for the coming month of October, more spirits and ghosts will endeavor to give us the chill: Qi Pao and Rang Ngao. Although the latter doesn’t literally have any ghosts, a twin playing the part of her sister, wreaking revenge for a life taken,…

LOL scene in Prik Gup Kleur Ep 4

lovefia

Posted on August 29, 2012

It’s Wednesday night and probably until Sunday, I am out of lakorns to watch. Sad, but true. Good lakorns are slim pickings these days and I should be happy Hong Sabat Lai was pleasantly surprising, but it only keeps me occupied from Monday to Tuesday. To make matters worst, the list of lakorns I’m anticipating to watch, Qi Pao, Punyachon and Nuer Mek2, probably won’t air until the end of the year- which leaves lakorns like Rang Pratana, Maya Tawan and Dao Ruerng (which are currently still being filmed) to air perhaps next year. Sigh, what’s a girl to do? So I decided to continue where I left off for Prik Gup Kleur and seriously had a lol moment with a scene in episode…

Small Favors- Love in the Fresh Food Market

lovefia

Posted on August 19, 2012

It’s amazing how much fast forwarding I’ve done in this weekend’s episodes of Love in the Fresh Food Market and still have a grasp of what is going in the storyline. There are good and bad aspects of that, good because I get to watch only Thong and Kim-Lang’s scenes, bad because that means majority of the scenes are taken up by side characters and uninteresting subplots. Silliness and secondary characters do not appeal to me, especially Nada and Chai, whose storyline about revenge and rape takes over the spot light and screen time for our main characters. It is a total miss for me, unfortunately. I’m begging P’Off to go easy on the subplots and give me more meat. I know he wants…

More than what meets the eyes – Love in the Fresh Food Market

lovefia

Posted on August 12, 2012

“Let me stop breathing is easier” (หยุดหายใจง่ายกว่า)- Kala (Ending OST of Love in the Fresh Food Market, Fia’s translations) I am aware that I don’t have the right.. I don’t even have the hope to think about loving you. But the more I am around you, the more I fall in love with you. What should I do, I can’t find my way out. Every breath I take is you, every minute there is you. My mind has only you. How can I stop loving you? Let me stop breathing is easier. My heart has a problem, that I cannot control. It doesn’t matter if you don’t love me, I just want to love someone real, for once. If I shall be disappointed, it…

What is more important: the beginning, middle or ending of a lakorn?

lovefia

Posted on July 10, 2012

As I am writing a review for Mam Gam Dang, I got to thinking about the importance of the beginning, middle and ending of lakorns. You see, Mam Gam Dang had a great beginning, it was engaging and you easily fall in love with the leading characters. Towards the middle of the drama, things remained stagnant but at least the feelings between the two characters made progress and we get an inkling that things will be alright in the end. Until, well, the ending, where everything fell apart and the sequences just didn’t make sense. Which really threw me off and got me thinking about what is important to me: can I forgive a lakorn that starts great but ends badly? Or is a…

A Whole Lotta Love- First Impressions on This Land is Our Land (Week 1)

lovefia

Posted on July 1, 2012

They say that cooking good food requires love. I believe that can be applied to everything one does in life; give it love and it shall grow. It’s how I feel about Torranee Ni Nee Krai Krong- it has been given so much love and as a result, it is a great story. I shall not add “so far” to my last sentence, because I have faith that the director shall see it through. From episode one, we are introduced to the characters, the setting, and the tone of the drama so gradually for it to be genuine and believable. It feels like we are living on the farm with them and are part of their close-knit, funny community. The story takes its time…

Moments like these.. Khun Nu and Pat in “Buang”

lovefia

Posted on May 30, 2012

Sometimes it doesn’t require one to watch an entire drama before enjoying aspects of it. I’m not following Buang, and I’m not sure if you are, but I was perusing Youtube and noticed some Khun Nu and Pat cuts in Buang and couldn’t resist pressing play. Heck, since I don’t have to spend hours watching Buang, why not watch clips of the secondary characters? They seem to be much more interesting anyway. You may be familiar with Pope Thanawat from Tawan Duerd where he stole the hearts of many female fans as the rough around the edges but sweet Nai Singh, or from Game Rai Game Rak as Dr. Wattana, the relentlessly hopeless romantic. In Buang however, he plays the “playboy” and cunning character,…

On LG and Khun Suek

Posted on May 7, 2012

As Thai lakorn blogs in English are already hard to come by, it is only about to get harder as we say goodbye to another good friend- LakornGods- an exceptional blog that provided recaps, reviews, headsup and perspective from Godninja surrounding the fascination of lakorns. We all have our dreams to chase and Godninja is going after hers- may she meet only success. There is a lot of time and commitment that goes into hosting a site/blog dedicated to the fans. And sometimes it goes without notice. It gets tiring and you get burnt out. I can relate to the feeling of wanting to focus on your own aspirations as oppose to writing for others.. that is why it is a relief to create…
