What Draws You to Lakorns?

lovefia

Posted on May 29, 2014

Why do you watch lakorns, or any dramas for that matter? Do you tune into lakorns for your favorite actors and actresses and see it to the end? Or do you watch lakorns for the storyline and characters? We all have different reasons as to why we commit ourselves to spending hours in front of our computers and Smart TV (technology is amazing!) and some of us just can’t help it because these shows are so addicting. And on top of that, lakorns are truly a breed of their own, there are certain plot devices unique only to Thai dramas. And sometimes, they raise my hackles. I personally watch lakorns to get lost in the story and characters. A couple of requirements that I…

The End of Spinsters and Casanovas?

lovefia

Posted on May 16, 2014

Kuan Kaantong Gup Gang Por Pla Lai is one of those shows that you don’t want to say goodbye to. It is one of those shows where you sit back and actually miss the characters. Vicky Sunisa chimed in the Tonight Show that after the closing celebration of Spinsters Versus Casanovas, she thought about her character Nampeung and how much she would miss her. You know that it’s a good story with great characters if the actress herself long to play her character again. The ending itself closes on an uplifting note, but open ended enough that it can carry over to a potential sequel. So maybe this is just the beginning to another ending? I sure hope so. I can watch the heck…

‘Yah Leum Chan’ will end with 13 episodes

lovefia

Posted on May 14, 2014

Yah Leum Chan – namely Forget Me Not – is coming to an end after such a highly anticipated beginning. From the outset, it was a recipe for success: we have a renown director PaaJaew, an acclaimed producer of Sood Saneha, and a star studded cast of Anne Thongprasom, Tik Jesadaporn, Kong Saharat and Rita Jensen. But despite having all of the seemingly right ingredients, it is as if no one really tasted the food. So the dish comes out looking pretty but missing a certain spice, leaving one quite regretful that the chef couldn’t pull it off.

Courting the Casanovas

lovefia

Posted on May 3, 2014

Courting the Casanovas is no easy feat, especially for the Spinsters. But all things are difficult before they are easy, no? I just love this lakorn to pieces. It’s my new crack show. I haven’t sat by my tv waiting for every minute as I do with this show. It’s embarrassing, really. Nursing headaches from too much margaritas last night AND waking up early? Blasphemy. But I’d do it again. From last week’s episodes, the girls made peace and are back together again. The inciting incident – the fact that they were provoked to find a boyfriend – no longer matters and the girls can give up their ruse. So what’s the point of having a fake boyfriend around? And that my friends, is…

Spinsters and Casanovas – Reunited Episode 6

lovefia

Posted on April 29, 2014

It is poetic justice that the person who broke up the friendship would be the person who eventually brings everyone together again. We have come to learn that Linee, Maple and Nampeung admit profusely that they hate each other’s guts, that they can’t stand the notion of being in each other’s company. Yet behind closed doors and deep down in their hearts, they follow each other’s lives secretly, always curious to learn the other’s status updates. And in one particular climatic scene, they finally realize just how much they long to be friends, and how much they need each other more than anything. Let’s talk about how this all came about in episode 6.

Head over heels – 2014 Lakorn Anticipation

lovefia

Posted on January 2, 2014

When was the last time you were head over heels in love with a lakorn? It has been awhile, hasn’t it? This new year however seems promising, in that the lakorns we thought would have aired in 2013, would most likely air this year! Yay us! Since channel 3 released their upcoming lakorns for 2014, it’s safe to assume that at least our highly anticipated ones will be featured in prime time TV, and soon.

‘What money can buy’ in Nok’s Opinion – ‘Samee’

lovefia

Posted on December 5, 2013

A lot of things, certainly, Nok surmise. He is Khun Rarb’s bitch, so indebted and grateful for all that Khun Rarb has done for him that he willingly, voluntarily offers to do all of the dirty work for his best friend, master and angel from above. If Khun Rarb hadn’t been the charming bastard that he is, Nok’s assumed job wouldn’t have been so pleasant. But heaven above, it’s a fucked up world these rich people live in. Being the loyal and obedient miser that he is, Nok merely observe quietly to himself. He dare not utter his opinions nor offer recriminations. He only ponders and carries out any orders. But you can’t blame him for his thoughts. In fact, you don’t. One of…

Madam Butchi’s Backstory – ‘Madam Dun’

lovefia

Posted on December 3, 2013

Being a star isn’t always pretty or glamorous. There are aspects of the profession that can be downright dishonest, disgusting and tainted. This show does not romanticize the entertainment industry for being the glitz and glam that it appears to be, but the show puts bad management in the spotlight. If chosen poorly, one can severely be taken advantage of. Case in point, Ann, Madam Butchi’s beloved friend. In the past, Madam Butchi is merely Paksi, Ann’s sidekick. The two had promised to stick together and pursue the stardom (with Paksi being the rock of course.) They meet the renowned Je who turns Ann into a star, and utilizes Paksi like a slave. In retrospect, this taught Paksi all there is to know about…

Hit the road jack, and don’t you come back no more

lovefia

Posted on September 8, 2013

“Neighbors, I’m still on the fence about them.” – Jarod Kintz “A neighbor can be your best friend or your worse enemy.” -Yours truly Hi my name is Nalin or you can call me Bua. Three years is not long enough to forsake that face. Cheeky bastard. Just when my life is starting to look up- I mean I’m practically due for a promotion at work- creative director is within my grasp!- but I’d see his face at the elevator, after 3 years no less, and he has the gall to call me wifey? That water has far long been under the bridge. What is he doing here anyway? Shouldn’t he be in America? Married with children? Dammit, his smiling, taunting face is the…

20 Questions: Lakorn Challenge

lovefia

Posted on August 25, 2013

Courtesy of Blobofcolour’s drama challenge, which originated this stimulating topic, we’re going to partake, so please feel free to include your answers! This challenge is challenging in itself for me. If you’ve read my about page, then you might be aware that I stopped watching lakorns for 10 years and returned in 2010. So theoretically, I should examine lakorns within the last three years, however, having returned back to lakorns, I’ve caught up with so many that I’ve missed, that the lines are simply blurred. And well, I.Just.Want.To.Write.About.Everything. But for clarity and brevity sake (much to my chagrin) we’ll just talk about lakorns between the years 2010-2013 (so file away Jam Loey Rak (sob), and worse lakorn ever Namtarn Mai (you escaped this time…
