Why do you watch lakorns, or any dramas for that matter? Do you tune into lakorns for your favorite actors and actresses and see it to the end? Or do you watch lakorns for the storyline and characters? We all have different reasons as to why we commit ourselves to spending hours in front of our computers and Smart TV (technology is amazing!) and some of us just can’t help it because these shows are so addicting. And on top of that, lakorns are truly a breed of their own, there are certain plot devices unique only to Thai dramas. And sometimes, they raise my hackles.
I personally watch lakorns to get lost in the story and characters. A couple of requirements that I do have is that the Pr’ek is multi-dimensional; I must love his character, his choices (I should be able to understand his motives) and I should also find the Nang’ek likeable. Basically, the Pr’ek should be a character of a potential real life man that I can respect and admire. Don’t we want a Pr’ek we can all fall in love with?
In the case of Nakin, Pr’ek in Sanaeha Sunya Kaen, he is far from it. Driven by revenge and anger over the death of his wife of one day (but true love for eternity?) he wreaks vengeance with ParnTawan who is an easy target for the cause of his wife’s untimely death. Besides, he overheard that ParnTawan had been drunk at the time, and why should drunken (bad) people survive while his beloved die? It’s easier than accepting that your wife had been speeding, it was a rainy day, and bad shit happens to good people. It’s not easy to forgive and move on, because that would mean his wife in the form of his anger, would cease to exist, and then he would have no reason to live. Maybe.
Nakin is a handsome man and appears to be a normal, loving brother, son and boss. But behind ParnTawan’s back, he’s quite evil. We don’t know what’s in store for her, as far as his revenge scheme goes, but it isn’t going to be pretty. The problem I have with Nakin is that he’s very one dimensional. Roar, I’m going to punish you for being the cause of my wife’s death, for taking the best thing away from me! He has no conscience or conflicted emotions behind what he is about to do. Also, his initial impression of being a gentleman completely goes out the door when he violates her space. If a woman pushes you away and tells you no, it means no! His advances made me feel uncomfortable, probably because Tawan appears to be so freaked out by it. He also goes from one end of the spectrum to another, emotional and character wise. Once she signs the agreement to be his sister’s nurse, the devil practically takes over. You can say that his character is just not my cup of tea.
There are parts I like about this show though. I love the relationship between ParnTawan and her sister Duen. They only have each other in life, after being orphans growing up, so they’ve developed a bond and closeness than other sisters under the circumstances. One thing you can take away from their experiences thus far is that it sucks being poor and a female in this show. ParnTawan is bullied left a right by her ex-boyfriend’s wife, her bosses and even gets tossed out of her apartment from the evil landlord. What’s a girl to do to get some love around here? Then to top everything off, she’s going to work for a man who has evil ulterior motives. IF his plan is to make her fall in love with him, then by throwing money in her face, renting out the whole theatre, and well, violating her space when she barely knows you – that is not smooth, operator. Making Tawan fall in love with you, and the viewers also by default, is no easy feat with a one dimensional, bi polar Pr’ek.
I prefer stories with a natural progression to the relationship throughline: how two people meet, fall in love and have a happily ever after (if it meets the end goal of the story.) The storyline doesn’t always have to be different or fresh or new, it could be a spin on a well thought-out story – because god knows, I can watch something that I love over and over again – I just want the story to be genuine. Maybe it is because I don’t like revenge slap kiss dramas the way I used to, maybe it is because I don’t like one dimensional brutes, and maybe I just don’t like misogynistic storylines. Whatever the case may be, I have to ask myself the question, do I continue watching? Or do I save myself from the heartburn that I will inevitably get? Tough questions for a lakorn enthusiast like me. But perhaps, I’ve already made up my mind.
If you are enjoying this mid-week lakorn, you are encouraged to share why you like the show. As we all know, this platform welcomes any and all perspectives and opinions.
Lastly, what draws you to lakorns in general?

Try Kreep Nee Huao Jai Mee Tur, a mermaid lakorn. You will loving it….
Thanks Patty, I tried the first episode but it hasn’t drawn me in. Thankfully there’s ‘In a Good Way’ to keep me occupied. For some reason, none of the prime time dramas are capturing my attention, sadly, not even Rak Ork Rit. Fickle, fickle fan, I am.
I like Thai lakorns, but they aren’t as easy to find as Korean or Japanese dramas, and most lakorns don’t have subtitles. With Thai lakorns I can’t be choosy. I can only watch them if they get uploaded on Viki or YouTube, with English subtitles. I don’t really have too many choices,
Hi Greta, that is the drawback.. Hopefully more fan subbers for lakorns surface for your viewing pleasures…
It feels like watching YLC all over again with SSK but much more intense, and to add, second leads rocks!!!
Initially what draws me in any Asian dramas is if one of my bias is casted. Then it follows with the entire casting and their chemistry as a team. Next comes backdrop/plot. Timing and mood plays a big part. I can sit through a terrible written script with talented actor/esses or even a terrible script with frozen actor/resses.
I agree, it’s crucial that the actors breathe life into the characters, otherwise it’s just a good script but a terrible show 🙂
Here is what I wrote on Overviwers on Kreep Nee Huao Jai Mee Tur, I hopes you like it as must as I do:
Kreep Nee Huao Jai Mee Tur it is a sequel of Ruk Nee Huao Jai Mee Tur, the story focusing on the mermaid name Meenanuch and her sisters, Musaya, In part one, Meena and Musaya accidently cames out of the crack of the ocean to explores earth and meet with Chonatee and his father. From that day forward, Meena and Chon have to endures many obstacle together while trying to protecting an aqua marine lives from destroy by the people whom wants to harm the ocean lives.
Many things has happened in part one, that causes Meena and her sisters to leave human world behind because Mermaid and human cannot loves each other. When Meena and her sisters left home that causes Chon to becomes distraught and sadden, however, he has his friends to comfort him in his times of needs. In part two which primeired tonight, Meenanuch is returned against to looking for her younger sisters, Mushashan, a little mermaid whom was dares and adores by Meena and Mustana. In the begining of this episode, Nemo went to school trips to the equarium with her friends, While the teachers asked the students to stay put so she will go talked to the guy whom will in charges of given them a tours on the equarium, one of Nemo friend want to explores the surrounding of the equarium and the beach. So Nemo took some of her friends to sees an ocean.
One of her friend in the group wants to captures a crab, but Nemo and other friends stop him saying that they has comes here on purposes only to study a aquarium marines lives, not to captures it. They have to returned to aquarium stations otherwises their teachers will go hectic on them. While they are in the hurry to returned to the rests of the class, Nemo accidently drop her backpack behind. On the shores, Mushashan, was hidding behind the rock and saw them leaving. Musha are at awed and excited to be in the human world to explores the land of the human must as she can possible. Musha comes out of the ocean and claiming Nemo backpack and putting some clothes on. When Nemo returned with her class, she remember that she has left her backpack behind at the beach, so she excuses herself to retrieving her backpack, only to find Musha has putting some of her clothes on. Nemo misunderstood that Musha must be a lost kid whom got lost with her school trip friends so she took Musha to her classes trip. She has asked her teacher to keep Musha with the rests of the group because they could not contacting her kinship or family members since they did known where she has coming from. At first the teacher are reluctant to do so, but because of Nemo begging her so she has agreed. Once they are about to getting back to school, they has to try to finding the solution on what to do with Mushashan. So Nemo has an ideas, they are in the police station, asking the police to finding Mushashan parents. Eversince, Mushashan comes above she has been acting weird, she was talking to fishes. Nemo picking up on that and thinks she must be hitting on the head too many times. The other things that is weird on Musha is she is talking poem which is so strenge. Nemo calling her mom to coming to pick her up. Nemo beg her mom to took Mushashan home for now until they are finding her family. At first the mom don’t wants to do it, but could not refuses her daughter beg and pleaing.
Then the show shifted to Chonatee, he was a scientists whom was in charges of protecting a aqua marines lives (fish, and all the ocean animal lives). Some one comes to called Chon for helps. It seems that the fisherman people are complain that the rule not to captures tuna while they are in laying eggs seasons. The fisherman people are not too happy about it. Chon and all his friends try to persuaded them to let the laying eggs seasons pass on tuna, then they can captures the tuna against. But that got these people even angier and they are about to mobs Chon and his friends. All of suddenly, Warin, one of Chon friend (she has a crush on Chon for years ever since Chon come to work at the aqua lives protection station) come to gives these people a pieces of her mind and trying to reasoning with them (oh boy, is she a fiesty one, I can sees now why Chon are reluctant to becomes more then friend with her). Warin actions, has surprises not only these people but she has surprises all her friends including Chon and her boss.
Later, Nemo was excited to shows Mushashan her house, while the mom was pretty adament to take a total stranger into her home (I would too if I have to share my house to a bund of a stranger, geez.). Nemo shows Mushashan her bedroom and she told Musha to go take a shower so they can go eat dinner that her mom make later on. Musha was still new and adjusting to the roleplay of human ways that she accidently spraying water on her which lead to her transformation into a mermaid (when her legs got wet, she turned into a mermaid with tail and everything, but when her leg dry the tail turned into leg), The water sprashing accident make her startled and fall down, with a yelp, Nemo are worry about her friend welfare that she decided to check on Mushashan only to be dumpfounded to sees her friend as a fish Mermaid, not human. She hurry to lock the door of the bathroom while her mom yelling downstair to sees that they are O.K. because she heard all the commotion. Nemo lies to her mom that she has everything under her control that Musha just have a little accident fall down in the bathroom and she will take care of her friend. She shoo her mom to go finish preparing their dinner because they are hungry. Nemo was surprises that her friend are not human, but she covered up their track and covered Mushashan secret anyway because she thinks that having a mermaid friend it is cool.
Then we are introducing a new villains of the shows. These villain ladies are a rich modeling/a buisness company CEO whom her evil deed is to extract the marine lives into a serum for her make-up cosmatic thingy. She was in the modeling/photoshoot promoting her new product at the mall where there was a reporter swarming the places. There is this one reporter that tries to gives our Cruella Devil a trouble backbone and bringing up the bad deed where they like to destroy the ocean wild lives to make a profit of making a serum for beauty treatment. Our Cruella Devil are speechless and stunned to be corner and pin against the wall with no way out, until her assistant lady comes to her rescues. The assistant have to called a security guard to have that reporter throwing away. Afterward, Cruella Devil snapped at her assistant for making her embarrassing in front of the presses by invited that awful reporter to bitting her head off. The assistant apologize and told her that she will be careful next times and no doing against.
Back at Chonatee and the gangs, they went on the trips to study a wild marine lives on the field, when Warin started to get worries and overprotectives of Chon (she reminded me of a mama bear overprotectives of her cup). Then Nemo are taught or trying to teaches Mushashan to talked normal like human did. On the way to study a wild marines lives, Chon and his gangs comes upon a boat, Chong and his friends decided to go asked for a water, since they are so thirsty, they did not bringing to much water on their trip. When they get on board of that ship, they asked for a water, only to find a damages coral reef from the heavy explosion on that ship. They knew right away that they has coming upon a pirates whom destroy a marine lives form. The baddies have gun, they have to flee the ship by jump out of the water while the baddies are started to shoot at them. On the ground the baddies are continueing to looking for Chon and his friends. They keeps chasing after them, shooting them. Two of Chon friends are hidding behind the ground leaves or tree. Three of the baddies could not finds them so they kinds of giving up looking for them. While Chon was hot under the water right now because other three baddies sttarted to shooting at him against. Making Chon have to flee under the water. He swim under but his leg got caught by some kindos of a net. He struggle to get free only to be drowning even more deeper and deeper, when someone comes to get him out of the situations, saving him (It is Meenanuch).
In the morning when Chon woke up from his drowning experiences he found himself on the shores mysteriously. When all of suddenly Meenanuch has called out his name. Chon was surprises to sees Meenanuch against. He has asked if she sees his friend, Meena confirmed that his friends is safe. He was wandered why is Meena is here, she told him that she comes looking for her younger sister. While Chon friends was looking for Chon. Meena and Chon are have a little bit of talked on the beach. Meena was worry of how can she find Mushashan and how can they can back home because so much has happened to the environment and what the human did to her home, they sore off damaging it too much. Chon has offered to helps her looking for her sisters, as long as she has promises not to leaves him ever against. Later on, Meena swim to the fisherman boat to informed him to get helps because there was people trap on that island over there, how ironically, she should not doing that because now the fisherman know that she is a mermaid, he saws her swimming away that she has tail, he throught that he was illional or seeing thing. Chon and his friends reunited, his friends was so happy to sees him arrives. They are over estatic with joy that he is not dead by the hand of the baddies pirates. Then they we rescues by the fisherman boat. At the boat Chon bosses has asked him if he is O.K. His boss has granted him a leaves of absent or a vacation leaves which Chon has asking anyway. Chon boss and friends are surprises that Chon has asked for a vacation leaves because usually Chon has never took his leaves of absent ever, not in the millions years. Chon has told them that he has to go helps someone, but he never said whom. Leaving them surprises of whom is the lucky person that Chon was trying to helps through.
Nemo has decided to takes Mushashan to school when her that morning. They were at the breakfast table at Nemo house. The mom has bringing food, it was somekind of a sarines soup (somekind of a vegetable soup that fish or mermaid eat). She was happy that it is sarine soup that she took thw whole bowl to herself. Nemo was wandered is she going to takes all the food on herself. The mom said that she will get the new bowl of soup for Nemo (the mom was glads that Nemo friend like the food she make). Which reminded her of someone whom like to eat sarines just like Nemo friend, she has a flesh back where Meenanuch in disguide like to eat sarines so much. But the mom has shrugged it off.
Back at home the coral reef protectors, Chon and his friends has barely returned back home only to find Warin and their other girl friend were worry about their safety because they has heard about the incident on the radio. Chon inassuring her that he is O.K. and they all O.K. one of his girl friend has asked what happened and the boss told her that they are stumble into pirates whom hurt the coral reef and wants to killed them that is why they are barely making it arrives. The girls asked them what are he going to do. The boss said that he will be informed the elders about this incident. At school Nemo and Mushashan attends to. The teacher has called the name role, and she was surprises on the newscomer, she has asked of whom Mushashan are. Nemo told her that Mushashan is her friends whom got lost in the group when she went to the aquarium trip with the other teacher. So she has to takes Mushashan over her wing for now just until they has found Mushashan family. The teacher has asked Mushashan of her name but before Mushashan can told her, her name was, Nemo answered her teacher that her friend name is Mustana. Nemo told Mushashan that if she told the teacher her real name it is kind of strenge name that people will get suspicious and wandered, so it is better they settle with Mustana instead. Let get back with Cruella Devil and her sidekick. Cruella Devil is whining and complaining that she has been working too much that she is starting to getting old and get wringle on faces. The sidekick told her that she is still beautiful and not to worry. The sidekick was worry about her boss stresses that she has told her about the Tribe of the old village Tale of how the people started to staying younger and immoratality by eating a mermaid fresh. However, our Cruella Devil throught that it is a bunt of nonesenses. She told her sidekick not to mention at this to her ever against. After the whole ideal of drowning, Chon comes looking for Meenanuch against, he was so happy to sees his old girlfriend against. That is the end of the episode, the next episode, Cruella Devil and her sidekick go meet the scientist whom has captures a mermaid (not Meena and her sisters, that what you are worry about). He was telling our villains that two years ago a fisherman boat has come stumble a dead remain corpse of mermaid. That he has brought from the fisherman. Chon has takes Meena to meet with his friends, where Warin got to meet Meenanuch as Chon old girlfriends. They were all surprises, especially, Warin, because now she has a competition to completes with to get the affection on Chon. I throught that this shows is refreshly good and funny. It is a had good feeling of s storyline in fact, I was wondered of whom Chon will choose between an old loves or a new loves interested. And how will our Cruella Devil are try to captures or hurt our mermaid and hurting a wild marine lives formed. The only things that I am most disappointing with that they did not bringing Musaya into the storyline yet. They did not even bringing the scientist whom is Chon father into the storyline, since in part one Chon father and Meena sister, Musaya are sore of having a relationship at the time. Will the show bringing the old enemies of Meena and Chon back to stirres a havoc on Chon and his teams. We will have to find out on the next episode. Beside a good feeling fun storyline, this series have a messages somewhere, to protecting the marines lives environment and to preserves a ocean lives forms for the next generations to sees. If you, the audinces ever looking for new and excitement of refreshly good fun of laughter, I recommended this series. At the end of the series, you guys will wondered as much as I am that if Chon and Meena will ever get their happy ending. And how will they find and be reunited with Mushashan……..
It is a heartwarming family dramas that you should not misses….for now this is me, Patty, signing off, and I hopes you are enjoying reading my overviews on this series, bye-bye for now!!!!!!
End of Overviews of Kreep Nee Huao Jai Mee Tur.
Hi Fia,
I’m a newbie to the lakorn world and your blog has been hugely helpful in feeling my way around the bombs. So first off, thanks for your hard work with this site!
The question you posed is one I’m still exploring as a new watcher and sometimes very relevant – as in ‘why on earth am I watching this????’ I have not watched a single lakorn that I can recommend to friends and no one can claim that lakorns are exceptionally well-acted, well-written or well-produced (I don’t sound like a lakorn fan at this moment do I?). And yet I keep coming back. Probably because lakorns, like mainland Chinese dramas tend to have unabashedly overwrought, angst-filled storylines, so I get totally caught up in the drama in a way I wouldn’t in more intellectual or realistic fare.
Using your example of SSK (which I caught an ep because I adore Janie who has enough charisma for a cast and a half whilst Dome actually gives me the shivers cause he’s so smarmy and in-your-face despite looking like the yummy Jo In Sung who could and probably does out act him in his sleep) – in what universe would a man come up with such an elaborate yet ABSURD plan to avenge his dead wife? I mean – if you’re going to punish the girl, you don’t have to marry her to do it.
But I’m anticipating the fallout when Dome realises that he’s fallen in love with the woman he’s hurt because she caused his wife’s death (true or not remains to be seen) and now doesn’t trust him as far as she can throw him and all the crow he’s gonna have to eat – so I’ll probably wait till episode 8 starts airing before I restart watching it.
What can I say? Sometimes a girl just wants junk food. Lakorns are my version of drama-junk food.
Hello mizcarol,
A warm welcome to the blog! Glad to hear that you are enjoying your way through the fields of lakorn-mines. I like your analogy of lakorns and junk food. 🙂 Sometimes we don’t know why we watch some dramas, and it’s best to attribute it to guilty pleasures. As far as SSK, I don’t think Nakin is scheming to marry Tawan, but he’s going to make her life a living hell for a year – based on the contract that they’ve mutually signed. (Initially in the preview, it looked like it was a marriage certificate – my bad!) She will nurse his sister back to walking status for a year, and if she terminates the contract before that, she would have to pay an insurmountable amount of money. Immediately after she signs the contract, Nakin turns into quite the devil and already she questions why the bipolar-ness in her boss. I used to tolerate a lot of BS in the lakornworld, but lately, I’ve no patience for it. Having said that, if a duo gets me at the right spot, I can turn into a sucker. Like you said, there’s really no rhyme or reason for it, and at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter. All that matters is that the person viewing the show is happy. To each her own. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Happy lakorn watching!
what draws me in first and foremost are the actors. if i’ve seen them in a previous lakorn, i’m more apt to finding other lakorns they might’ve starred in. second, comes the plot and whether or not its believable and the leads have chemistry together. and lastly, the most important thing is if the lakorn can not only draw me in bu keep me watching. i’m someone with a huge list of asian dramas i’ve yet to finished. i don’t know why that is but i generally lose interest. and so if i could finish a drama from beginning to end, than it was one damn good drama. but then there are the few times where the drama really sucked but i just had to finish it out of curiosity on how the drama would end.
..and then of course when you’re viewing a lakorn that an actor you want to see is in, you sometimes find another actor even more engaging in the same lakorn and you pursue other lakorns that that actor is in. The cycle continues. Story.of.our.lakorn.life.
true true true….right now i’m dying to watch a lakorn starring guy who played the pervert sleaz movie producer in sud sai paan but i can’t find any of his lakorns, subbed or raw 🙁
my most effective way of choosing a lakorn to watch is to read the synopsis. even if my favourite actor is in but the storyline doesn’t get my interest, i won’t watch it. then i will read comments in blogs like yours Fia whether the show is good or not. cuz, sometimes because of the synopsis, i accidently passed over some lakorn which actually has good production quality.
In that case, do you actually go back and watch them after initially disregarding them? Thanks for the comment lilyalana.
It’s most definitely the storyline. Luke you, I like to get lost in the story line and characters and their stories. I like complicating character relationships but with growth and development because Ikke to see the character grows and learn life lesson ESP the Pra ek.
Are you catching anything good right now? Glad to hear that we see eye to eye- but I love how lakorn viewing is so subjective, what works for someone may not work for another, vice versa. Thanks Leek!
Hi Fia, I choose Lakorns based on main actors/actresses, however this method has started to fail me these days…lol..somewhere after the first few episodes…the story has to pick up and the character have to be likable otherwise I drop the lakorn…Ya leum Chan really proved this for me …as much as I have a MAJOR bias for Ann T I haven’t been able to finish it,,,,(lol…this is surprising to me to too…lol)… on the subject of actors, I find if Im familiar with the actors’ previous work, I want to see the actors growth/improvement or “just something new/different in their next work..this can usually convince me to continue a lakorn even if the story isnt that good…[ 🙂 can you tell Ive watched too many lakorns..lol..)
I find I’ve become a lot less tolerant of the slap/kiss genre(the rude/arrogant Pr’ek vs weak/clueless “let everyone just walk over her without fighting back” girl, plot doesn’t give me my lakorn fix anymore…lol…this is one of the reasons im finding it so hard to find lakorns to watch this year…..{or should I say lakorns that Im able to finish)..
Hi Emma – such a cute name by the way – thanks for leaving a comment! I agree that sometimes tuning into a lakorn solely for the actors/actresses may bite us in the butt, in terms of YLC – and in terms of looking at the bright side – I’m glad I watched it because I fell in love with Eua and Ganlong. Who knew P’Kong can be so adorable? I’ve seen a lot of his older lakorns, but haven’t seen him in his ‘prime’ so to speak, so glad I didn’t miss out on this particular character. I sure hope that next time we tune into a lakorn for a certain actor, that even if we’re immensely disappointed, we would get something redeeming out of it.
I am not Thai but I love lakorns, with Luerd Kattiya being my first. Like the previous commenter has mentioned, the choice is very limited for download as I don’t quite like watching online. Those made downloadable is the ones I get to watch. My recent lakorn is Pan Rai Phai Ruk and Bo See Chompoo. I don’t know whether it’s just coincidence or the choice of selected lakorns by uploader, I find the pattern in both lakorns seemingly alike. The male lead mistaken the female lead as some sleazy woman but falls in love with her anyway and then the female lead goes to some extent to save the male lead’s family/ business then the last episode will be the finding the female lead and reconciliation+ happy endings. But then again it could be due to me not watching enough lakorns.
Hello Amesty – I totally understand the desire to watch shows on TV and bypass the online/streaming fiasco. It makes the viewing experience so much more.. enjoyable.
Lakorns tend to have similar premises, so it’s not surprising that you find two shows, that you may or may not watch concurrently, follow similar recipes. Just a month ago, I was watching three lakorns and find them achingly familiar. I’m okay with similar plots as long as there is a refreshing take on things. I hope you continue to watch more lakorns, and hopefully, there’s a different and refreshing plot that will keep you entertained. Thanks for the comment!
Love your blog always, Fia.
What draws me to lakorns is definitely my bias, then storyline along with the chemistry. I’m very blah when it comes to tuning into lakorns, It’s been quite hard for me to tune into dramas. lol
Hi Fia, I’ve been a silent lurker on your blog since mid 2013 (around august if I’m not wrong). I’m new in Thai lakorn world and your blog has been really helpful. It’s like my lakorn guide, usually I would read synopsis before watching a lakorn and I found that your taste fit me, I could chew most of your recommended lakorn.
On to the topic (sorry for the long introduction), I must admit the first thing that draw me into a lakorn is very very superficial. The pra-nang look, hha, Because that is also the very first thing that brought me into lakorn world, it was Nadech handsomeness that make me watch lakorn at the first time (I know, I’m so shallow, please forgive me). After that I will look to the chemistry,if the pranang has so little chemistry I would definitely pass the lakorn haha. Last but not least is the plot, if the plot is too ridiculous for me, I would definitely pass.
So far I only watched ch.3 lakorn and anything (except horror) that GMM produced. Even though I’m new in the lakorn world but thai movies is not unfamiliar to me ( I even knew Ken waaaaay back before I watch lakorn because I love Bangkok Traffic Love Story, but I don’t even considered any of his lakorn on the first several month I watched lakorn, now I can say that I’m a fan of KA). I found that romcom and period lakorn suits my taste best (even better if it’s mixed of them). I just love the clothes, setting and music in period lakorn and rom com make me laugh, I love everything that make me laugh hehe. I still can’t really accept slapkiss since loving someone who tortured you is beyonnd my logical boundaries, but I still watch game rai game rak and sawan biang for my fav pair (I don’t finish sawan biang since I can’t find the complete sub).
Usually I always follow my favourite pair lakorn, I like yadech (it’s given since I watch lakorn for Nadech at first), Ken Ann and Markim. I also like almost all of the juthathep pair especially james-bella and james-mint (waiting for them to reunite). So far my fav. lakorn is sood sanae ha, thoranee and juthathep series (I re-watched them countless time) . The last lakorn I finished is Wanida, I never think that I would be so into it, since I didn’t find Tik attractive at first (I know, sorry, please don’t shoot me). But know I find myself waiting for his part in mafia series. The latest lakorn I watched is Ruk Ok Rit, but since the sub hasn’t finished I would wait for it, thank god there were kind people out there who spare their time to subs for non-thai speakin people like me, (I’m really blind with thai language)
Last but not least I’m sorry for the long and not so systematic blabering, lakorn is always a guilty pleasure for me and I still can’t recommended anyone to watch lakorn, so I don’t have anyone to spazzing about it. Thank you fia, I will always look forward on your lakorn writing hehe
Yours sincerely
lakorn-fans-whose-been-stalking-your-blog
How wonderful! Hello Shirocci – silent readers who come out of the wood work really really make my day, so welcome aboard! Thank you for your continued ‘stalking’ of the blog, I appreciate it! Sorry to hear that you couldn’t convert any of your friends to watch lakorns, but no worries, you can always spazz with me and the amazing lakorn fans here. We all have a lot to say about lakorns and everyone’s welcome to offer their two cents.
I on the other hand, haven’t seen a lot of Thai movies. I believe the last one I saw was Mae Nak with Mario and Mai, and totally love it. Like you, I love anything that makes me laugh, and when movies/lakorns do that, it’s all the better. I don’t blame you for adoring Nadech, he’s truly one of a kind, the kid has skills and super adorable in real life too. I cannot wait for his three lakorns that will later this year. We must contain ourselves, there’s going to be a lot of Nadech to spread around 🙂
It sounds like we have similar tastes in lakorn and I look forward bouncing thoughts and ideas regarding lakorns with you- not to mention, spazzing. It’s what I do best. Forget the recaps, reviews etc, I’m really quite good at fangirling! Ha.
Awwww fiaaa thank you for your reply, yes yes I’m so happy to have fellow fangirl hehe. This is really year for nadech fangirl. There wil be double nadech!!!! Fia if I may questioned you, what is the other nadech lakorn? I only know two of it, rising sun and lom son ruk. I don’t mind getting another nadech’s lakorn though, there will never be enough nadech for me teheee #happygreedyfangirl.
Anyway one more thing I love about lakorn, I don’t need to wait for a long looong year for mu favourite pair to comeback.
I consider Lom Son Rak and the two part Rising Sun Series as three lakorns, since Nadech will appear in Mario’s story too 🙂 sorry for the confusion!
The main pra’ek and nang’ek draw me to a lakorn. If I really like one of the main cast, I’ll watch it.
Dear Fia,
i haven’t been watching lakorn for quite some time now. I tried watching a couple but nothing quite caught my attention. I guess i’m pretty impatient and in some way like you, could not take anymore BS. But of course i remember the feeling of being hooked on a lakorn. Sweet, sweet feeling, My last was The Gentleman Series with James Jirayu. Gosh! So long ago and so this year, I’ve not watched anything. But to answer your question, the thing that draws me to lakorns is the pranang’s chemistry. That is an absolute must! That’s the thing that keeps me going with a lakorn no matter how absurd the story is. Plus, a lakorn that makes me laugh, makes me stay too. Right now am watching korean dramas because they deliver just that. But I still miss lakorns (I’m learning thai too) so I do come back regularly to your blog to see if there are any worth watching. Anyway, am anticipating the Rising Sun series! *drools*. -suz-
Hello suzsuz! You’re absolutely correct, a pranang’s chemistry means everything to viewers’ perseverance. I’m sorry to hear that no lakorns have captured your attention thus far, hopefully the rising sun series will bring you back. I really liked Spinsters and Casanovas, but lately I’ve been watching other dramas outside of lakorns as well: In a Good Way (super cute Taiwanese drama if you haven’t seen it already) and I’ve actually went back to re-watching Secret Garden – since Hyun Bin is so sexy. For selfish reasons, I hope the rising sun series do not air until July, since I’m going to be traveling and preparing for my sis wedding for the remainder of June. It’s so good to hear from you, I hope your world is covered in peaches and roses 🙂 -P’Fia
For me, I have to like the actor or the actress and the storyline to be invested and even so, it is not guaranteed to keep me interested.
With Sanaeha Sunya Kaen, I’m seriously debating whether or not to continue! Dome is great eye-candy but his acting is sub-par and Janie needs to stop crying and grow a spine!
However, I adore his family though. His parents are a hoot and I love my new discovery of Gun Fluke Kantathaworn! He’s a cutie!
