Some exciting times! The Week Ahead

lovefia

Posted on June 14, 2013

Hello my dear Readers! It’s going to be an exciting week ahead at Lovefia’s Blog. Please join me in giving a warm welcome to two guest writers who are graciously collaborating with me to offer different perspectives and musings regarding our lakorn world. Coming soon, Jia (Scribblings of a Fangirl) will be entertaining us with a recapping project, Khun Samee Kamalor Tee Rak (My Darling Fake Husband) starring Chompoo Araya and Rome Patchata. Her diverse background in drama watching will offer a wonderful take on lakorns, and her excellent writing skills will keep us tickled for this entire recapping ride. And she’s from the sparkling city of Singapore, which is one of my favorite countries, so she’s just cool by default. Next in line…

Oh, “Secret Garden” (Korean Drama) – Review

lovefia

Posted on June 14, 2013

When it comes to drama watching, there is no such thing as watching it leisurely, slowly. When you have the beginning and ending in your hot little hands, marathon seems to be the only viable option, sleep be damn. So yeah, I finished Secret Garden in 3 days. I feel a tad guilty, as if I’m cheating on my lakorn world, but that feeling dissipates pretty quickly. Gotta spread the love, yunno. Won’t happen too frequently though, since I have pending lakorn projects on the horizon, and I do value my beauty sleep. But dang Secret Garden was so worth the lack of sleep. I went into this drama series with no expectations, no synopsis or clue what the story is about. Suzsuz thought…

Mon Jantra Ep 9

lovefia

Posted on June 13, 2013

The story is wrapping up nicely, Rampang goes down the deep end, her brother is out for blood. Waree and Sama get their “awaken” sweet reunion only to be presented with the final problem. Can they get pass the casino issue? We’ll have to wait and see how everything ties up for our finale next week. — After being distraught at Waree’s locked door, Sama leaves her yet again in the “capable” hands of Rampang while he gets a briefing from Pipat. Eh, will he ever learn? Rampang looks evilly at Waree’s sleeping form and the next thing we know, she must have succeeded because Sama enters the room again. I think it’s so sweet how he talks to her as if she’s conscious.…

Mon Jantra Ep 8

lovefia

Posted on June 12, 2013

These two have so much chemistry when they are together. We make leaps and bounds, placing feelings and confessions on the table. That in itself, is the best part of this episode. The others, well, are just fillers to await the big climax to come. — After their interview with an eyewitness to Dej’s death more than a decade ago, Waree and Sama discuss the gemstone business in Trat at a coffee shop. Waree shuffles through old pictures of the gemstone mining, and Sama tells her that the buildings in the pictures have turned into museums funded by different companies. She wonders about the location and Sama knew right off the bat what she was getting at, and he will not be taking her…

Poll Results: Collaborations?

lovefia

Posted on June 11, 2013

Thanks so much for participating in the poll. I was mulling over the idea of having featured/collaborative writers to recap or review lakorns that I have not seen or do not plan on seeing, but may interest the readers. Summer is almost here and life can be consuming. Heck, even without summer, life sometimes get in the way of good drama watching. It looks like 60% of those who voted are interested in writing about lakorns, but don’t understand Thai. That in itself, can be challenging, but not impossible. You don’t have to write live recaps, some lakorn fans may want to read only recaps before they decide on watching the drama. Therefore, I would love to challenge anyone who is interested in recapping…

Mon Jantra Ep 7

lovefia

Posted on June 6, 2013

It’s another fun episode. Pipat sees double. We get the backstory of Rampang. And well, Sama and Waree continue on their ever cute bantering while we watch how wonderful their relationship continues to develop amid threats on Sama’s casino. Waree understands the whole story behind the misunderstanding with Sama, and why Nai Dij thinks he killed his brother. Things are tying up very nicely. — Waree gets escorted home by Security Uncle, who is adamant he must peruse the premises to ensure her safety before she enters. Despite Waree balking at the idea. It’s a good thing he does because the lock pad had been picked, indicating that someone is waiting for her, and not the friendly variety. Two men came out of the…

Mon Jantra Ep 6

lovefia

Posted on June 5, 2013

I love our brilliant pr’ek. He can be my hero any day. This episode is unhealthy for me, too much swooning. — The bodyguards take the stairs and gossip about their boss, serving as our commentators in this Sama-Sopie relationship. One of them speculates that Sama is suspicious of Sopie- probably her hand in this latest shooting- but is unsure of his nagging suspicions, while Pipat believes the reporter is guilty of it because Sopie has been chasing Sama for so long, and why would she want to kill him? Hey dude, don’t let your prejudice cloud your judgment. Apparently, he doesn’t see eye to eye with Waree from the get-go, so he’ll place the blame on her any day.

Where is the love?

lovefia

Posted on June 4, 2013

Although Khun Chai Ratchanon, part four of the Gentlemen Series is fast paced and has a relatively good plot, I don’t find it resonating with me on the level that the second and third part did. Allow me to explain why. The stakes are definitely higher, the plot thicker, but character development or even relationship development is surface level, lacking depth. We know Khun Chai Lek is adorable, playful and doesn’t take many things seriously- in exception to when he was forced to be engaged to a woman he hardly knew, and he hightailed out of town- but character wise, we haven’t gotten to the flesh and bones of his character. His relevance in this story is a catalyst to meeting our heroine, the…

City Hunter (K-drama): perspective from a lakorn girl

lovefia

Posted on June 3, 2013

I completely lucked out on my third jaunt in K-dramaland, sparing a brief diversion from lakorn land, my bread and butter. And when this journey turns out to be a gemstone find, I can pat myself on the back for a good choice and time well spent. Thanks to Netflix, for their crisp, clear and handy subtitles- as well as the director who brought Prosecutor Princess, my first foray into K-dramas- I am able to appreciate City Hunter for all its glory. When it comes to the action genre, I don’t necessarily look for them in lakorns, or expect its endeavor to leave any emotional or minding blowing impact within the lakorn world. It’s just not the nature of the beast per se, and…

“Taking care” – Reflections on Ep 4 Khun Chai Ratchanon

lovefia

Posted on May 31, 2013

I like Chai Lek, I think he’s adorbs. But seriously, the boy can’t go around telling every girl that he’s going to take care of her. I mean, what does he mean anyway by taking “responsibility” over someone’s life? Typically in the lakorn world, the word is misconstrued as “marriage.” So it’s easy to see that Soifah misunderstands his meaning. She had been grounded by her daddy to stay in her room for 7 days and 7 nights. But her concern gets the best of her, so she jumps down her bedroom window and makes her way to check in on Khun Chai, who had saved her from a trap and got his forearm scratched up. But as she veers the corner of his…
