Maya Tawan (Tawan’s Deception) starring Aum Atichart and Yaya Urassaya, who are collaborating together for the first time, have finally come to an end. It is a story of overcoming past struggles and trust issues. I do hope it was everything that you had hoped for. Cheers.

Ep 13 Recap – END

“I don’t want you to live in hell like me,” Bot says as she looks at her cellphone.

She recalls earlier that Chate threatens her not to tell KhetTawan. Will she save the greater good?

“Can you tell me now where my pearls are at?” Chate is screaming this at her, Mattana is scared. “I had my people searched your entire house and they cannot find it.”

She finally realizes who the true culprit is.

“That was your doing?” Mattana asks.

Well, thanks for clearing things up Chate, because as we know, if you don’t spell things out for Mattana, she can’t come up with it on her own.

2013 Semi-Half Yearly Lakorns in Review

This year thus far has been an incredible year for lakorns. I’ve decided to compile a semi half year review as oppose to attempting to review an entire year’s worth of lakorns in one post. What is surprising to me though, is that in looking at the list of lakorns that I’ve personally watched, there aren’t many. The ones that I did end up tuning into however, are oh so good. Quality over quantity, no?

The diverse and variety of lakorns released on the small screen this year are rather refreshing. We have controversies surrounding Neua Mek2– which is actually a really good lakorn emphasizing more on good overcoming evil- but apparently the government didn’t like the comparison so much- resulting in the first ever pull from the television prior to completing its run. I enjoyed the fast paced and CSI type aspect of it, not to mention the chemistry between Mteam. Pon Prom Onlaweng became a surprising hit, introducing Bella Ranee as nang’ek Tanyong who resides in Nong May’s (Nong Unda) body. There were a lot of things I liked about that particular lakorn, it brought Boy Pakorn to my utmost attention, and offered if not a better, but a different interpretation of the original version. Nong Unda is a true gem and I hope to see more of her in lakorns. Then the epic series happen by, Channel 3’s biggest project to date, 5 Gentlemen Juthatheps for our weekend installments, and TV scene’s endeavor with the 3 Musketeers Series to get us over the hump of the mid week. Despite the 3 Musketeers Series being remakes (and Pon Prom Onlaweng alongside Pan Rak Pan Rai are remakes as well), we are given refreshing new stories to indulge with in the handsome Gents series, as well as the many anticipating lakorns that will air for the vast remainder of the year.

What we need in our lives

Maybe even in society. Khun Chai Puttipat, our latest weekend installment, is serving to remind me that in a world with bad, bad men, there are also very good men too. The gentlemen; specifically Khun Chai Mor (doctor) who inspires doctors and nurses to do their best, champions the frail and underdogs, and ultimately, always chooses to do the right thing despite how difficult the opposition. I was at first blinded by his youthful flare, but after this weekend’s episodes, I am sold. So on board this James Jirayu train, as he takes us on a journey to more than fairytale conception- because he suffers from human tendencies too- but his character brings us the hope of good men.

Speaking of those human tendencies, Chai Pat is falling in love with Krong Kaew, the current Miss Siam, because of her beauty (there has to be that onset chemistry and physical attraction after all) but more so with her resilience. No matter the condition of her life, Krong Kaew is a survivor; she finds a way to get out of a predicament, even if it requires self-inflicted pain, and she is selfless, sacrificing her future to help her ailing father. These are characteristics that attracted Chai Pat. What I find so entertaining though, is his predicament. Chai Pat, our sensible, brilliant doctor is confused about how he should deal with the young and inexperienced Krong Kaew, she brings out a different side of him, one that many has never seen before.

The Moon’s Enchantment (Mon Jantra) – Chakrit and Margie

monjuntra

I’m so excited about this second part of the 3 Musketeers Series that I can barely contain myself. Simply with its title, The Moon’s Enchantment, one is spurred with all sorts of imagination. If Khun Samah (Chakrit Yamnarm) is the lunar, than our feisty reporter Sarawaree (Margie Rasri) will fall under his spell. Or is this a story about real enchantments? Whatever the case may be, I’m sold. This pairing is so electric!

Part of the fun in watching a lakorn is not knowing what’s going to happen next. Perhaps that is my downfall with Maya Tawan, I remember so much of the original version (it’s embedded in my memory) and the remake just doesn’t measure up to the plot, the characters etc, that I find myself having a rough time watching it. So, I’m not going to read the summary of Mon Jantra, I’m not even going to go back in time to watch any versions of it. I’m just going to allow this version of Chakrit and Margie to take me away. So if you know the whole story of Mon Jantra, please leave me in the dark. Ignorance is bliss.

Maya Tawan Ep 12

Mattana gets a strange feeling in the pit of her stomach, but she refuses to act on it, even to analyze it. The only other person in Phuket who knows that she is a reporter is Mr. Chane Cross. But the world isn’t that round right? He’s such a nice guy too, he couldn’t possibly be the same perpetrator, right?

“What’s the matter?” KhetTawan notices her creased brows.

“Nothing..” she says, “it’s strange though, if your friend sent those photos to me, why would he ambush me?”

“He must know that you and I have feelings for each other,” KhetTawan says with a shrug. As he turns away, he doesn’t notice the look on Mattana’s face: eyes wide open, a little surprised.

She thinks to herself, ‘what kinds of feelings is he referring to? Should I ask him? Better not.. if he says that I’m just a stranger that comes and goes in his life, I would be devastated.’

But he does notice her expression, “You look like you want to ask me something. Fire away.”

She decides against it and walks back into the house. But she’s clumsy and trips, and he catches her before she falls.

Maya Tawan Ep 11

The story continues where we left off from the intense final bits of last week’s episode, where Matt launches herself at KhetTawan, angry that he would hire someone to kill her, but mostly because he dared to hurt her family.

“So is anyone going to tell me what happened?” KhetTawan demands clarification.

“Matt got ambushed,” explains Khun Samah (originally I thought it was Khun Smart, my hearing isn’t well, until I read the synopsis for Mon Jantra and realized Chakrit’s character name is Khun Samah.)

“Is that true?” KhetTawan asks, “I thought she was being sarcastic.”

Mattana tears up, as if anyone would be sarcastic about her possible death.

“It is true,” answers Khun Samah. “Luckily it was only a graze.”

Mattana could only glare at KhetTawan through eyes swimming with tears.

“Then when we took Nong Matt home,” Khun Samah continues, “her house was robbed.”

Khun Chai Puttipat- First Impressions

lovefia

Posted on May 5, 2013

twitter_paajaew

I love the era of the 50’s and 60’s; ballroom dancing, classical music, fancy speaking, and an air of smooth pacing where people aren’t pressed for time. It’s one of those period dramas that I don’t mind watching. Especially when The Juthathep is front and center. Who could resist the famous five gentlemen of Phra Nakhon (capital)?

Khun Chai Puttipat follows the story of the third brother in the line of Momratchawong Juthatheps, who is a young, and most capable neurosurgeon in the city (perhaps even all of Thailand) since he hailed from advance medical studies in London. His passion in life is medicine and treating his patients, as well as the receptive conditions of his patients’ family. Therefore Khun Chai Pat has no room for females in his life, let alone love. Or perhaps he just didn’t find a female worthy enough of his attention?

His grandmothers’ have other plans for him. Since his two older brothers have failed to fulfill their father’s promise- that one Juthathep son would marry one Thewaprom daughter- the pressure lies on Chai Pat, as he is next in line and a great hope for the elders. They believe that M.R. Marathee would be his perfect match since she is a nurse and can offer him understanding and support. But Marathee leaves very little to be desired, she’s fake, a gold digger, and possesses no manners to boot. No matter how much she thinks she’s playing it right, it’s all wrong, well in Chai Pat’s eyes anyway.

Chane Cross’ Story – Ep 10 Summary Maya Tawan

lovefia

Posted on May 2, 2013

Screen Shot 2013-05-02 at 7.28.57 PM

We learn the history of Chate aka Chane Cross, KhetTawan’s former friend and nemesis. They deem him the “hell” (on loafers, I would add) and despise him unconditionally. It’s mutual. Chane hates him too and will do everything in his power to ruin KhetTawan. But why? If you still care, you may have to wait to find out his motive, because it’s the kind of thing that is reserved for the ending y’know.

So the majority of this episode sets the premise for the audience to understand that Chate came from a pretty traumatic childhood. I do feel badly for the kid, he looks to be about 8 or 9 years old. His mother is a drunk and his father travels frequently to work on freight boats and support the family. Yet every time he comes home, his wife would take all of his money to gamble and drink, then to support her lover who is a traditional stage performer. Chate tells his dad about that lover and that his mom is planning on running away with him – the older man sees red. He storms the lover’s work place and stabs him to death. So Chate’s father goes to jail and his mom decides she wanted nothing to do with him. He pleads and runs after her, but she merely disentangles herself from him. Not only is he abandoned by his mother at a young age, when he visits his father in jail, the older man had hung himself.

Maya Tawan Ep 9

lovefia

Screen Shot 2013-05-01 at 5.39.09 PM

Mattana, who has fallen in love with her leading hero, and thinks that all is well, gets the rug pulled from under her in this episode. As we all are aware, KhetTawan certainly has an ominous, biting temper when he is mad at you. I wouldn’t want to be in Mattana’s shoes!

The opening scene starts with KhetTawan who is about to look at the photos when he notices how disheveled her room is. He starts to put things away and cleanup for her. She apologizes from the bathroom; she didn’t expect to host any guests.

He laughs, “Whoever becomes your boyfriend will have to make some dough in order to hire a maid to look after you.” Hehe.

Mattana is in the bathroom and wishes she could disappear. How embarrassing.

But their friendly banter ends when KhetTawan takes out the photos from the envelope.

October Sonata (Movie) – A Reflection

lovefia

Posted on April 30, 2013

50121-attachment

Much in life is timing. October Sonata – (Rak Tee Ror Koy) Love That Waits – did not resonate well in the box office in 2009 – it flopped actually, which is truly unfortunate because it possesses such a gripping script, cinematography and actors. But I believe though, that most of what makes a good movie is that we are watching it at the right moment for us. For whatever reason it did not bode well with the Thai public at the time, but for me, it hits me in all the right places. At the end of the film, I actually went to Mr. A and gave him a big hug. It makes you appreciate that nothing is better than the present, with your beloved, standing next to you.

The idea that our leading lady, Sanchan (moon) is the lunar and our leading man, Rawee (sun) is the solar, makes for a compelling theme from the initial start, that they exist in polar opposites and overlaps only during eclipses. But it only took one encounter from the sun, one single meeting with Rawee that changes Sanchan’s life completely.

I went into this movie without any expectations or inclinations of the storyline. I wanted to see it primarily for Pope Thanawat and his debut on the silver screen (a debut on any entertainment format for that matter.) But I am pleasantly surprised at how compelling and emotionally triggering it was. Perhaps I am watching this at the right moment in my life, in which I am a realist as much as I am a romantic. I can appreciate and understand that people who come in our lives may not be with us forever, but that some change us forever.
