There is nothing like my readers who can make me feel a tad guilty. The more you tell me that you want to read it, the more I will feel inspired to write it, especially when I’m not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for this particular series. But feedback and comments always work on me. So there you have it, do enjoy the read 🙂

The summer bug

summer

Happy summer, dearest readers.

Perhaps it’s always sunny where you’re at, and wishing you a sunny day is a moot point. But where I’m at, where it rains 9 months out of the year, it’s important for me to soak up the sun.

Maybe I’m feeling nostalgic or emotional these days because my favorite series – really, of all time, trying not to be dramatic here- has come to an end and I’ve not much to look forward to as far as lakorn goes.

So I’ve decided, with only a few months left of summer, that I’m going to go smell the roses, or maybe travel or something or other.

What can you expect for the upcoming days, weeks, months?

Kaen Sanaeha – Episode 3

This show is SO good. Episode three delves into the personalities of the children and we get a development regarding the parents, which is getting interesting. I don’t mind seeing the adorable kids put on a good performance, cause they are so darn cute. I can see all sorts of interesting potential as they grow older. I think we have an underrated lakorn on our hands here, my friends, what a surprising hit thus far.

A different kind of love – Kaen Sanaeha Ep 2 Impressions

yingkaekai

The second episode into Kaen Sanaeha (Furious Love), and I’m decidedly rooting for Khun Ying Kaekai. Bulahn is too weak of a woman to me, and even though she and Than Chai loved each other prior to marrying Khun Ying, Bulahn is still encroaching on someone’s marriage. Granted, we’re in a period drama where it’s ok to have multiple wives (who could seemingly get along ala Juthathep’s parents) but I don’t have a great respect for Bulahn. Her character is just a sappy romantic who misses her man so, and is willing to be an inferior. Whereas Khun Ying, who despite walking into an arranged, loveless marriage, she still hoped for some affection, although accepting that Bulahn is Than Chai’s true love. But Than Chai is so cruel, he has no considerations of her feelings, so it’s completely justifiable that her maid Feurng, who is more than a maid- she’s a friend, a sister, a mother- comes to her Khun Ying’s defense.

A cardboard box villain she is not. I adore the interrelationship between maid-boss. This is not your typical period drama where the maid is simply a loyal maid then causing us to scratch our heads as to why she’s so loyal. But this lakorn takes it’s time in showing us, convincing us that the love between maid and boss is mutual. Khun Ying is so poised and reasonable, and even though she appears to be the cold, stoic woman, there’s a lot of backbone and steel inside. She’s definitely not stupid. Upon learning of her maid’s guilt and bad deed, she accepts it (and doesn’t condone it) but is willing to find her the best lawyer to defend her. She loves her maid like family, Feurng is the only one left in this world who truly loves her. That is why my heart goes out to Khun Ying. I’m a sucker for lonely souls.

Suparburoot Juthathep (Gentlemen of Juthathep) Review & Fia’s Top Picks

sjseries

The Gentlemen of Juthathep is a five part series taken place in the span of the 1960’s surrounding the lives of five brothers of Juthathep palace who were raised by their two grandmothers after a car accident that claimed the lives of their parents, namely Mom Chao Vichakorn Juthathep.

Born into the prestigious title of Mom Ratchawongse, the five brothers are set on a pedestal by their grandmothers to not only be a gentleman, but to set a good example, defend the underdog and marry well. Especially marry well. And we get to witness how each one tackle this issue.

This sets the premise of the struggles and conflict in this series. The five Juthatheps inherited a responsibility greater than the sum of their parts: one of them must marry a lady of the Thewaproms due to a sacred promise that their father made with a “friend” who saved his life. To avoid marriage is to be an ingrate and that is the biggest ado in this period.

Don is surprised to see Pad and asks why he’s here to which a suspicious Pad replied that uh, I live here and why do you not know this is Pim’s hometown? Don quickly pretends he does but big brother is not so easily done with him. Pad keeps probing when he realises Pim did not come with Don and Pad isn’t convince by Don’s lame excuse that Pim did not want to take leave from work so he came to look for Min by himself. Despite Don’s denials, Pad is sure that Don and Pim had a fight and reports the same back to his parents. Dad reacts immediately by wanting to drag Don back to Bangkok but Mom thinks that force is not the way to go. It’s more important for the couple to come to an understanding no? They have already settled the business related issues they came back for and now it’s family time!

And it ends (we survived) – Khun Chai Ronnapee Final Impressions

lovefia

Posted on July 7, 2013

Screen Shot 2013-07-07 at 7.06.49 PM

It’s been a whirlwind of eleven episodes for Khun Chai Ronnapee. We knew when our fun loving, youngest Juthathep entered the filming set of Kinaree, and the leading actress fell literally into his arms due to stunt difficulties, Chai Phee’s life would never be the same again. And the dynamics of his character, as well as the tone of the Gentlemen Series would be forever changed.

Most importantly, each episode is like getting the wind knocked out of me, leaving me gasping for air, wondering if I’m going to survive this whole ordeal. It’s the kind of lakorn that sucks you in, makes no apologies for hurting you and proceeds to do it all over again. But never once, sacrificing the emotional ties we have towards our hero, Chai Phee. Because if it’s even possible, the adoration and love for this particular Juthathep brother, only proceeds to grow with his choices, actions and decision making.

The breakup in Episode 9: Khun Chai Ronnapee

I simply cannot let this episode slip away without commentating- venting, spazzing, popping a blood vessel, whatever you want to call it- because the marathon of invoking pains to Chai Phee, and thereby me, has continued.

Gawd, it sucks so bad being Khun Chai Ronnapee. I would not want to be a gentleman, much less a Khunchai because a fancy palace to live in, a fortune awaiting at my feet, but a life decided by my grannies, does not equal a happy life or a life worth living. So as a side note to Khun Pranod, don’t be a gentleman, run away, run far away from being anyone but yourself. It sucks balls, just look at your P’Phee.

From the previous episode, Chai Phee’s status and identity was revealed, so the next best thing he could do is to try to make it right with Piangkwan. So in episode 9, we start out with a quieter moment, which is really nice and sweet as we’ve been dealt with so many blows and I’m not sure if I can handle more upper cuts, or cuts to the heart. Chai Phee apologizes to the entire family, he’s trite and beautiful (ok I’m stating the obvious) as he tries to make them understand that his deception may have started out very cruel, but it turned into a life changing event for him, he has never felt this way about any lady before, and he was afraid that if he came clean, he would lose Piangkwan entirely.

Fah Krajang Dao Episode 3

Screen Shot 2013-07-04 at 2.23.36 AM

I had feared that this story isn’t going anywhere. The plot itself is still a big question mark, but at least we are starting to see the potential character development and the theme in this drama. I love that both of our main characters are very likeable and that slowly they are aware of their weaknesses, but chooses to deal with it instead of evading their problems. I especially like how Sarawat Heran can really get under Mee’s skin. The trip and investigation in Chiang Mai is not only an opportunity to allow our characters to spend some time as a pretend couple, but it moves their “relationship” and the plot to the next level. It’s a good episode.

Kaen Sanaeha (Furious Love) Episode 1 Impressions

kaensanaeha4

This year must be an aristocratic year. From the Khunchais of Juthatheps to our newest installment of Mom Ratchawongs of Rangsiya Palace, Kaen Sanaeha (Furious Love) is taking over our Monday-Tuesday primetime slot, bringing yet another interesting story to chase away the Monday blues.

Who&Who Production team is spearheading this lakorn, bringing in veteran actor Nok Chatchai (also a director for Khun Chai Ronnapee), another veteran actress Lalita Ponyopas (original Wanida’s leading lady) and our newest addition to the nang’ek roster, Patricia Good from Mr. Farmer and His Hi-so Sweetheart (Noinah), not to mention Son Yuke an X-Act actor. This blend of old and new, and a hint of the drama susceptible to X-Act lakorns but backed by Channel 3, we shall have a very stimulating lakorn on our hands.
