First Look – The Devil’s Delight – Pisat Hansa

lovefia

Posted on March 15, 2019

This evening lakorn from Channel 7 is pretty delightful, even if it’s about life, death and the afterlife. Pisat Hansa tells the story of Prat who mistakenly passes away after a traffic accident. You see it isn’t his time to go, but the Grim Reaper made a mistake and took his soul before his due time. This is an irreversible blunder but since Prat is a good person and has made many merits in life, the Grim Reaper gives him a second chance to live. Prior to getting hit by a truck, Prat had wanted to propose to his girlfriend, Ae. At 26 years old, he has a bright future and like he told the Grim Reaper, he still has so much left to…

First Look: Krong Kam

lovefia

Posted on March 13, 2019

Now that five episodes have already aired for Krong Kam, it is a good time as any to weigh in. Krong Kam is a lakorn about a mother and her daughter in law. It’s an unconventional, female protagonist lead storytelling that focuses on the flaws instead of the perfection, a lakorn that strives to show how choices will produce karmic affect, and also how terribly difficult it is to break out of a mold, once you’ve already been caged in. It is a mother of lakorns, so let’s discuss the story, as we know it so far.

First Look: Thong Ake: The Pharmacist of Chaloang

lovefia

Posted on February 1, 2019

Historical, medical, romcom lakorn, anyone? Thong Ake Mor Ya Tah Chaloang certainly feels like a fusion boran lakorn, with its modern take on boran costumes, its fantasy element in storytelling, but also keeping within the historical challenges of its time. The story takes place during King Chulalongkorn era, or Rama the 5th, which puts us between 1868 to 1910. As the title ascertains, “Thong Ake” which is our hero’s name, “Mor Ya” which translates to pharmacist, and “Chaloang” which is the name of the town, centers around Thong Ake’s (Mario Maurer) journey towards becoming the pharmacist of Chaloang, a remote and rural town that is sold on superstitions (believes heavily in ghosts) and a town that only has a shaman by way of medical…

First Look: “Nang Rai” – True Life of a Drama Queen

lovefia

Posted on January 16, 2019

The first episode of “Nang Rai” which means female antagonist, introduces us to our protagonist, Kaewalai (Now Tisanart), and how she was discovered and came to star as the “nang’rai” in this lakorn world. Kae has been blessed with amazing looks, but prior to entering the entertainment industry, she worked multiple jobs to support her poor family, which includes the gambling addict mother, drunk father, and three selfish siblings (and a partridge in a pear tree). Men who couldn’t contain their own perverted thoughts decide to kidnap and rape her after a construction shift was over. Thankfully, Anuwadee (Maggi Apa) – a newbie model/dancer – and her mother, discovers Kae being dragged into the trees and rescues her.

First Look: Buang Nareumit, Nuay Lap Salap Love

Two lakorns aired this week on Channel 3, the modern-period lakorn with Matt and Once upon a time Rome (complete with a new face and new name), along with a romcom starring Mint Chalida and Mai Warit. I tuned into both lakorns, and will say that I like Nuay Lap Salap Love better. The common denominator, both actresses are playing actresses.

Miss Unlimited Surname – First Impressions

lovefia

Posted on December 12, 2018

Catchy title to be sure. Miss Unlimited Surname is actually the English title for Nang Sao Mai Jam Gat Nam Sagon, which aired two episodes thus far this week on OneHD. It’s a romcom with Mai Davika and Ter Chantavit at the helm, centering around Riam (Mai Davika) who is unlucky in love but gotta get lucky in order to kick her diagnosis to the curb. Riam has always been boy crazy, however she got burned three times and vowed not to get married.

Choosing to Step into the Light – The Pink Sin (Trabab See Chompoo)

lovefia

Posted on December 3, 2018

We are entering a lakornworld that examines some heavy topics, but the saving grace is that we are given the drama in shades of pink. It’s a melodrama I don’t mind watching. There is conviction behind the argument of the story, behind every tear, and it’s one of those lakorns that makes me chomp at the bits for more (because of the sinfully delightful pairing). Allow me to start by discussing our hero, Peat Patsakorn (Pon Nawasch).

The Nation’s Tiger and his Little Monster

lovefia

Posted on November 21, 2018

Chat Suea Pan Mungkorn (Nation’s Tiger of Dragon Descent) has a very strong directorial hand and solid writing with a promising cast. Set in the 1960s, this show challenges the very core of our main character’s deepest desire to be good, by pitting him in the middle of a mobster world: Yaowarat (Thailand’s Chinatown). Songwat (James Ma) aka Suea (Tiger) was born into a Chinese mafia family but was given an opportunity to venture out of danger by getting adopted by a top colonel, whose life he had saved. Songwat gets taken under the influential man’s wing and excelled in the police academy until his sordid past catches up to him. His adopted father withdraws him from his last year at the academy, as…

PSA – The Reluctant Bride

lovefia

Posted on August 20, 2018

After back to back recaps, I told myself to take a hiatus from lakorns. We’ve been handed piles of melos lately, it’s time to unwind and allow the brain/blood pressure to relax a little. This explains my lack of updates. But what did they say about timing? Once upon a time, we’ve all been reeled into the lakorn fever that is Mick Thongraya. He was divine in Karn La Krung Neung, a lakorn that had an addicting pace and great onscreen chemistry. Though the ending went downhill, the lakorn for the most part got everybody hot and bothered. But YOU GUYS, Mick in Jaosao Jam Yom is a must watch. I had to do everyone a favor and throw in a PSA: watch The Reluctant…

Weekend Watch: My Hero Series 2&3

lovefia

Posted on July 1, 2018

What is everyone watching these past few weekends? Are you staying on top of currently airing weekend lakorns or catching up on past lakorns? Weekends are tough on my schedule, so I don’t usually have time for lakorns, but I still try to tune in on Sunday nights and see if any of the weekend installments catch my eye. I’m here to report that both aren’t really my cup of tea, but maybe it could be yours?
