NDFD Episode 5: Hide and Seek by Greta

lovefia

Posted on March 16, 2019

In an episode where everyone is covering up something, our pra’ek suddenly strips bare for no real reason.

Hello everyone! Are you guys still there? I have to apologize for taking such a long time to churn this out since I’ve been busy with other things. (Shameless plug: Don’t forget to watch Krong Karm! It’s really very good!) Without further ado, I give you Episode 5 Coffee Talk for Nueng Dao Fah Diew (One Land One Sky)

In the previous episode, more aspects of the story are revealed to us viewers. In this episode, our characters step back by not only continuing to conceal their secrets, but also hiding their motives through tricks in order to get what they seek.

First Look – The Devil’s Delight – Pisat Hansa

lovefia

Posted on March 15, 2019

This evening lakorn from Channel 7 is pretty delightful, even if it’s about life, death and the afterlife. Pisat Hansa tells the story of Prat who mistakenly passes away after a traffic accident. You see it isn’t his time to go, but the Grim Reaper made a mistake and took his soul before his due time. This is an irreversible blunder but since Prat is a good person and has made many merits in life, the Grim Reaper gives him a second chance to live. Prior to getting hit by a truck, Prat had wanted to propose to his girlfriend, Ae. At 26 years old, he has a bright future and like he told the Grim Reaper, he still has so much left to do. But this second chance at life isn’t for Prat to go back and live his former life; he’s going back into a different body that has recently passed away, and therefore must move on.

First Look: Krong Kam

lovefia

Posted on March 13, 2019

Now that five episodes have already aired for Krong Kam, it is a good time as any to weigh in. Krong Kam is a lakorn about a mother and her daughter in law. It’s an unconventional, female protagonist lead storytelling that focuses on the flaws instead of the perfection, a lakorn that strives to show how choices will produce karmic affect, and also how terribly difficult it is to break out of a mold, once you’ve already been caged in. It is a mother of lakorns, so let’s discuss the story, as we know it so far.

NDFD Episode 4: Revelations by Greta

Posted on February 14, 2019

Just when she thought she had her eunuch friend figured out, he suddenly turns into a man before her eyes.

Hello everyone! Welcome to another coffee talk for Nueng Dao Fah Diew (“One Land, One Sky”). For those who have read the coffee talks for Episodes 1-3, I thank you for stopping by to read my ramblings. Thanks again to P’Fia for letting me guest write this coffee-talk series, and for Humbledaisy for suggesting the term “coffee-talk”. Thank you also to those who left comments. Hope you guys join in the discussion here too!

Let’s do a very quick recap shall we? In the first episode, we saw how the story was presented like a kollabot, with characters and plot points shrouded in mystery. In the second episode, everyone seemed eager to uncover the hidden meanings of things. In the middle of all this deception and covering up, in episode 3, we find our hero, with something true and genuine – new feelings “blossoming”; while a character who genuinely loves the land likewise appears. Episode 4 progresses further as our characters, most especially our hero, unwittingly reveals more about himself. Yet would these revelations actually resolve things, or will it just make matters (more) complicated?

Perd Gong Wic 3: Channel 3 Lakorn Showcase

lovefia

Posted on February 13, 2019

One of my favorite things about Perd Gong Wic 3’s lakorn showcase (which has exponentially improved over the years) is the escalator ride down to the theater. It is Channel 3’s form of the red carpet walk. What better way to get people excited then to showcase the pairings arm in arm, gliding down the escalator? No better way, I’ll say. These are my favorite looks and it gets me even more excited for the lakorns that will air soon! Which show/pairings are you looking forward to the most?

NDFD Episode 3: The Rare Blossom and the Elusive Butterfly by Greta

Posted on February 4, 2019

As Mangmao finds a lovely flower that blossomed in an unexpected place, a beautiful feeling likewise blossoms in Khanthong’s heart.

I hope you guys are as excited for this coffee talk as I am. It’s in episode 3 when the story of Nueng Dao Fah Diew (One Land One Sky) finally progresses in the love department. The characters have been introduced, and the conflict has been laid out. Finally, in episode 3, we get to see more interactions between Khanthong/Khanthin and Mangmao and they finally become allies after bickering in the first two episodes.

NDFD Episode 2: Unraveling the Mystery by Greta

It’s funny how he can see right through her disguise, but she never completely sees through his

Hello readers! Thanks to everyone who has stopped by to read this coffee talk once again. There are still some characters who were introduced in Episode 1 that I haven’t yet touched upon, and I will try to include them in the discussion for Episode 2.

Like the first episode, Episode 2 is another introductory episode which shows us more about the characters and the world of Nueng Dao Fah Diew (One Land One Sky).

Episode 2 has a recurring theme – that is, unlocking a mystery. If in episode 1, everyone was presented like a Kollabot, in episode 2, everyone seemed to be wanting to decipher it. Almost every character in NDFD keeps a secret and another character is intent in unlocking it.

First Look: Thong Ake: The Pharmacist of Chaloang

lovefia

Posted on February 1, 2019

Historical, medical, romcom lakorn, anyone? Thong Ake Mor Ya Tah Chaloang certainly feels like a fusion boran lakorn, with its modern take on boran costumes, its fantasy element in storytelling, but also keeping within the historical challenges of its time. The story takes place during King Chulalongkorn era, or Rama the 5th, which puts us between 1868 to 1910. As the title ascertains, “Thong Ake” which is our hero’s name, “Mor Ya” which translates to pharmacist, and “Chaloang” which is the name of the town, centers around Thong Ake’s (Mario Maurer) journey towards becoming the pharmacist of Chaloang, a remote and rural town that is sold on superstitions (believes heavily in ghosts) and a town that only has a shaman by way of medical expertise.

We get a taste of what hijinks are involved when it comes to our nang’ek dressing up as a man, but still very much a woman. Nai Amphoe inquires around all of the people who come into regular contact with the former Nai Amphoe, what he learns are polar opposites. Yang is bummed not being able to work at the Amphoe, but surprisingly gathers intel about her target with Taeng-on, who was Nai Amphoe Kreuk’s housekeeper.

Written by Greta

Hello everyone! I am here again. First I would like to thank P’Fia for allowing me to guest write at her wonderful lakorn blog. I hope I don’t bore you guys with my lecture series, though as Humbledaisy said, perhaps it’s better to call it “coffee talk”. Hope you guys do chime in and share your thoughts. I’m sure P’Fia would love that too, very much.

Anyway, hope you have your coffee ready as you might need to stay alert with this academic part.
