Duang Jai Akkanee

lovefia

Posted on March 9, 2011

Duang Jai Akkanee (Akkanee’s Heart) takes us on another journey of the quadruplets: Fai, Din, Lom and Nam. The story focuses on Akkanee Adisuan (Fai) who is aptly nicknamed. His personality is that of a fire; explosive, quick tempered and hot headed. He runs the dairy farming of their family’s many businesses and constantly butts head with his neighboring dairy farm ran by Ajima Posowat (Jeed). Their contempt for each other stems from their family’s rivalry yet the underlining factor that they both deny is their attraction for each other. When they discovered that they may have been intimate during a drunken stupor, it changes everything. They take ownership over each other which soon developed into full-flung love and we see their struggles to overcome her family’s opposition. Can Fai’s love and stubbornness defy her family’s hatred? How will that be unraveled?

The premise of the story is reminiscent of Romeo and Juliet minus the tragic ending. We still drive home with the theme of profound love overcoming hate. It was an enjoyable lakorn, especially with the young and naive Fai and Jeed. One can’t help but admire how beautiful they both were. There were several romantic scenes and I can see why this “kiss and slap” lakorn is so popular among lakorn fanatics.

The Week Ahead

lovefia

Posted on March 8, 2011

Sometimes I am surprised at my ability to watch several dramas in one week or at the same time. I’m not sure which is worst. I believe I was in the midst of watching “You’re Beautiful” a korean drama, then I started watching ‘Duang Jai Akkanee” and because I heard of Aum Atichart’s new lakorn “Koo Deud,” I started watching that as well. And in between all of that, I finished “Badarn Jai” and rewatched “Jai Rao” and “Rak Nee Hua Jai Rao Jong.” Anyone care to say that I’m crazy? It must me because my husband is out of the country yet again and I don’t do anything else but watch dramas while he’s away.

Ok for organizations sake, let’s specify where we are at in all of this lakorn viewings:

Finished:

Duang Jai Akkanee – Yaya and Barry Nadech

Still viewing:

You’re Beautiful (this will take awhile since I keep getting in and out of it)
Koo Deud (Aum Atichart and Por Nattawat) to be finished this week!

Therefore, I will be writing up a review for Duang Jai Akkanee shortly followed by Koo Deud (boy am I excited!) Also down the road (depending on when I finish the reviews, I have plans to write reviews for Jai Rao and Rak Nee Hua Jai Rao Jong since it’s overdue, I’ve watched both lakorns a couple of years ago..)

Still need to see list:

Chakrit and Pinky “Kadee Ded Haed Haeng Ruk”
Chakrit and Ann “Sapai Glai Peun Tiang”
Aum and Cherry “Dooj Duang Prateep”
Aum and Cherry “Dao Long Fah”
Aum and Janie “Lady Yaowarat”

(Word Count 261)

Badarn Jai

lovefia

Posted on March 1, 2011

It is still amazing to me that Aum Atichart filmed four great lakorns in one year. He is one talented and busy individual.

In this third installment of 2008, Aum plays a heartbroken, lovesick man named Tor who continues to mourn the death by suicide of his fiancee Aeuy. They were completing their education abroad when after a fight, Aeuy’s body hailed from the apartment balcony to the windshield of Tor’s car. The event caused severe trauma to Tor. Not only was she his first true love, he also witnessed her gruesome death. The reason behind her suicide however still remained a mystery. We do know that Tor never fully recovers from her death, he remained depressed, irritable, severely ill tempered and confines himself in his Bangkok home. His own family was convinced they may never see the old Tor again.

Home Again and Fave Thai Actresses

lovefia

Posted on February 28, 2011

I forget how wonderful it is to go home and get pampered. I spent the entire weekend being spoiled by my parents- I watched two lakorns, ate very well and had the best time laughing together. My family is also a lakorn collector, so I scavenged the entire collection for Aum Atichart’s lakorn since I am currently obsessed with him. And I am happy to say that I found three other ones that I haven’t seen, so I will be tuning in: Badarn Jai, Rai Risaya and Lady Yaowarat. I will post a review for Badarn Jai shortly.

We also got into a discussion of who are favorite Pr’eks and N’eks are (yet again.) Here is my list: Aum Atichart, Ken Theeradeth, Tik Jesaduporn, Ann Thongprasom, Janie Tienphosuwan, Aff Taksaorn. They pretty much agreed, but wanted to add Aump Patcharapa and Por Nattawat to the list. We then continued to fill each other in on the current news and events of the Thai entertainment industry, Dirtii Laundry and Lyn’s Lakorn blog  are great resources for that as well.

Since I have already explained in earlier posts the reason for my tuning in to specific pr’eks, I will elaborate on my favorite n’ek list. Ann Thongprasom is one of my favorites because of her commitment to her work, acting skills and onscreen charm with just about any leading male actor. I’m sure many fans would agree with me that she made a smashing match with Ken Theeradeth. Janie Tienphosuwan has always been one of my top actresses, one can tell by my first few fanfictions- Janie was the n’ek in pretty much all of them. I became a fan when I watched her lakorn with Ann, then she became a leading actress in a lakorn with Pohn Tantasatien. I have yet to find that lakorn online- I forget what it’s called! Aff Taksaorn has been a new favorite, she brought me back to watching Thai lakorn. She has the traditional beauty, very smart and versatile actress. Not to mention her amazing chemistry with Aum Atichart in their many lakorns.. then Ken in Jai Rao and lastly Tik in Wanida. How can you not fall in love with her? Needless to say, my favorite actresses has remained popular and significant through the years, and for the above mentioned reasons 🙂

It was good to be home, but now I am ready to proceed with work, looking forward to finishing Badarn Jai when I get home.

Jam Loey Rak (Defendant of Love)

lovefia

Posted on February 24, 2011

Jam Loey Rak was taken place in 12 beautiful provinces; Bangkok, Harit’s private paradise, Soraya’s hometown and several of other breathtaking sceneries. It’s no wonder that this lakorn was received by numerous fans in Thailand, neighboring countries as well as China!

Quick Synopsis:

Harit Rangsiman, a pearl farming multimillionaire and entrepreneurial extraordinaire saw red after he witnessed his younger brother’s (Harin) suicide. He later discovered that Harin killed himself because of Sansanee whom merely not only broke up with him, but told him to go and die. This simply will not do. Harit is determined to avenge his brother and teach her a lesson so that humanity and the male generation will not suffer the same fate as his brother. With that in mind, Harit kidnaps the woman he thought was Sansanee, only who turned out to be her cousin- Soraya. He whisked her off to his private island and commenced his revenge by forcing her to do what he thought she would never do in her lifetime. He made her endure farming, cooking and other physical labor yet unfortunately for him, his captive contradicted everything he believed in and he finds himself falling slowly in love with her. And he can no longer deny his physical and emotional attraction to the person he thought responsible for his brother’s death. When he discovered her true identity, how will he make it up to her? Will he have ruined his one chance with love because of his faulty research and drastic measures for revenge? And ultimately will Soraya forgive him?

Sood Saneha (A Recipe For Love)

lovefia

Posted on February 23, 2011

Two years ago Alin was the number one actress in Thailand, yet because of her temperament, diva-like attitude and her inability to get along with others, she pushed herself away from the entertainment industry. Alin is a force to be reckoned with; she came from a rich family and possessed enough exterior confidence for several people. Not many people however, can see the slight insecurities and self consciousness within her. Being out of the picture for a couple of years can do that to even the most confident of person.

She was later approached with an opportunity to get back into the entertainment industry. A firm was looking for a celebrity to host their cooking show. When Alin met the President of the firm, Anucha, she instantly surmised that he is the perfect man. Based on her standards, she decided to pursue him and impress him by winning the cooking competition. The first problem however, is learning how to cook.

Thara Himalai

lovefia

Posted on February 22, 2011

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be part of quadruplets? Look no further, Thara Himalai, story one of “4 Hua Jai Hang Khun Khao” (4 Hearts Of The Mountains) will take you on this journey.

My Synopsis:
Set in the Adisuanrangsen Farm, the story introduces Dr. Thipthara, the fourth child of the Adisuan quadruplets. Her three fraternal brothers Fai, Din and Lom poses as a threat to her desire or attempt to date or get married. If they could have it their way, she would be a spinster for life. Little did they know however, that fate has a different plan for their sister- when a nameless patient lands on her plate, a badly beaten, stubborn and arrogant man who can take on her brothers, what will they do?

Phuwanet, the Crown Prince of Parawat must hide his true identity for fear of further assassination attempts. He contrives for Dr. Thipthara to allow him to work at Adisuanrangsen Farm to await further contact from his loyal subjects. He slowly falls for his doctor through her show of kindness, thoughtfulness and a deeply shared connection. Yet the gap in their social status deems too wide for Dr. Thipthara to accept. Ironically when the roles reverse, can she deem herself worthy of the Crown Prince? Can she accept the traditions of his country? And how much is Prince Phuwanet willing to risk in order to be with the person he loves?

On Favorite Pr’eks and the Effects of Lakorn in Reality

lovefia

Posted on February 21, 2011

The world of thai lakorn is unstable and the status of one’s popularity can change drastically and quickly. However, there are actors and actresses that has accrued loyal fans due to their skilled acting, good looks and consistent performance over time. My personal favorites are:

  • Aum Atichart
  • Ken Theeradeth
  • Tik Jessadupohn

I’ve recently discovered Aum Atichart (I’ve been away from thai lakorns for years..) and would have to say that he is my new, most favoriteactor! He captivated me from Jam Loey Ruk with Aff Taksaorn and has earned my loyal fandom from various lakorns that I’ve watched after that. A unique obsession of mine is when I like a particular actor or actress, I follow all of their movies. It is the same with romance novels, if I like a particular writer, I would read all of her books. So it goes without saying, that I have tried to watch all of Aum’s lakorn. He is an amazing actor, his eyes express his emotions so well. Another reason why I like Aum is because of his choice of characters in the lakorn, he chooses strong, stubborn, romantic and very authentic characters. This shows his versatility in acting.

Wanida 2010

lovefia

Posted on October 15, 2010

Wanida (2010) accomplished what many remakes have failed to accomplish in the past; staying true to the original storyline, featuring A list actors and actresses that has amazing chemistry and wrapping up a long awaited remake to viewers’ satisfaction. What made it more amazing was the fact that this was Tik Jedsadapon Pondee’s first lakorn after a three year hiatus. As if that wasn’t reason enough to tune in, the sizzling way that Tik Jedsapon gazes at Aff Taksaorn Paksukcharoen can make your toes curl. It was a match made in lakorn heaven if I do say so myself.

The vintage, retro costumes that were displayed gives off a feeling of the 50’s, where frivolous designs and dresses that ended right below the knees and puffed at the waist took front and center. The social and familial values were also different in this era, it was a time in which people conform to society’s standards; for example daughters are taught to abide by their fathers’ and husbands’ wishes. In the lakorn, Prajak pretty much summed it up nicely to Wanida, “You are a woman; you should not be driving or riding a horse.”
