What’s up?

lovefia

Posted on February 20, 2012

It is another rough Monday. When I arrive home from a long, exhausting day at work, I get wistful about those leisure months abroad where all I did was travel, blog and watch lakorns. Good times.

So have you seen the upcoming lakorns list? My reaction after sifting through them was ‘wowzers we got ourselves some exciting ones!’ You can see the full list on inwlakorn‘s site, but some of the top ones I’m looking forward to is Torrannee Nee Nee Krai Krong, Rak Ork Okard, Buang (more excited about Rome, not so much Rita), Rak Prakasit and finally, Khun Seuk (featuring Aum, my fave!)

I absolutely adore this picture that inuu posted on her site, it just shows how fresh and beautiful this lakorn will be! (Yes, I am very much Yadech bias!)

What are you excited about? What are you planning on watching? Any updates on eng sub for MLP? I know that it came to an end.. will catch up with it some time this week and write up a review. If no one is subbing it, I was planning on at least doing cuts of Mook and Petch.

Migraine Inducing – Meur Prap Por Look Orn

lovefia

Posted on January 29, 2012

In between the corny and awful sound effects, the lame, useless undercover cops and the uninspiring characters, Meur Prap Por Look Orn is a migraine inducing lakorn in the making. From what I’ve gathered, in 48 minutes time, Num plays a failed undercover cop and he runs headlong into a conflict with our heroine who raises three of her niece/nephew. You can read LG’s heads up for a better idea of the plot, as I’m too annoyed by yet another lame lakorn to delve deeply into it. Aside from that, Vicky is gorgeous, Num is alright, and the rest of the cast is just bleh.

Therefore I’m just going to stick to MLP for the time being, if a lakorn appears corny at first glance, it usually always is. So has anyone else seen this lakorn yet? Thoughts?

Another bites the dust – Duj Dao Din

lovefia

Posted on January 24, 2012

Let me start by saying that I like Stephan. I think he’s p’ek worthy and cute. I like the idea behind the story, I do.

But in his latest lakorn Duj Dao Din with Jakjaan, I am completely thrown off course. I feel that first impressions are significant. And usually, if a lakorn manages to keep me interested long enough to watch the next episode, it’s typically good. In this case, I cannot seem to get pass part 3/7 of episode 1.

The pictures above depict their first encounter. The problem is that it is so typical of lakorns first encounters that I had to control myself from laughing out loud and rolling my eyes.

This is how it played out: during a party to welcome her baby nephew to the world and to congratulate her on her acceptance to study abroad, our n’ek literally runs into our pr’ek. She was in a rush and didn’t watch where she was going. She pummeled into his back and spun and spun until he reached out for her and caught her before she hit the ground. Fireworks went off as they stared into each other’s eyes, mesmerized by (apparently) their good looks and attraction to one another. I don’t think Jakjaan is at all that attractive with the wig, but I digress. Pr’ek tells her to watch where she’s going and n’ek apologizes- I guess I should give her credit that she didn’t bite his head off for her own recklessness.

I couldn’t help but recall all of the lakorns in which our pra’nangs met in that way. LOL. Boring. At any rate, (not just their first encounter) but the whole dramatic aspect of the lakorn has lost my interest. I just could not get myself to continue after she told him to keep the hairpin that he found (which belonged to her) and took his rose for a souvenir abroad. The two in spite of meeting each other briefly, is invariably in love with each other. It must be fate. Or it must be the writer’s horrible way to write first encounters!

Maybe I’m not into the 3 D’s that Godninja at LakornGods mentioned (drama drama drama) regarding this lakorn. Maybe I don’t feel the chemistry between Stephan and Jakjaan. Maybe I’m jaded. Whatever is the case, I just can’t take this lakorn seriously. Maybe you feel differently. I am all ears.

Love Stories Amid the Flood- Nam Keun Hai Reap Rak

lovefia

Posted on January 23, 2012

First Impression of: Nam Keun Hai Reap Rak (Ch.5)

Amidst the flood of 2011, Gor (Pong Nawat) owner of a restaurant, found himself doing the unthinkable: going back to ask his father for help. To him that was a form of failure and it was something he had promised he would never do. Gor did not see eye to eye with the old man, who was the type to remind him that he was never going to amount to anything without his help.

So putting his pride aside, Gor goes back to Rayong to beg for financial assistance. However, his father had other plans for him. The older man goes missing after a walk on the beach and left his son a note to open the safe if he needed money. Unfortunately he did not leave the combination. It turns out that his father decided that the only way his son was going to earn any of his inheritance, is if he would marry his nurse Woon (Vii Vanarot), a girl whom he helped put through nursing school and believed to be the ideal daughter. His father is the traditional type lipped man who loved his son, but was too proud to show it. Woon therefore believed Gor an ungrateful son who left his father to fend for himself even with a weakening health condition.

What’s up January?

lovefia

Posted on January 22, 2012

Hello fellow lakorn fanatics! Lately it appears that I’ve been more active on Twitter than I am on my blog, but hey, there are times lakorn has to take a backseat to life. But wow, isn’t January a month to be excited about? Not only does it mark the beginning of the year, we also have  7 lakorns to watch!

January

  • 2nd   Narm Keun Hai Reep Rak Ch.5
    Pong Nawat and Vill Wannarot
  • 4th   Mook Liam Petch Ch.3
    Rome Patchata and Susie Susira
  • 10th   Tomyum Lum Sing Ch.3
    Por Thrisadee and Chompoo Araya
  • 11th   Duj Dao Din Ch.7
    Stephan Tasit and Jakjaan Akhamsiri
  • 20th   Mue Prab Por Look Orn Ch.3

    Tle Thanapol and Min Pechaya

I still have much to catch up on, especially Narm Keun Hai Reap Rak, Mue Prab Por Look Orn, Duj Dao Din, and Arsoon Noy Nai Takiang Kaew. I’ll watch at least one episode of each lakorn to see how it fares and will be back to report my findings!

Currently I’m still crazy about Mook Liam Petch..

Tomyum Lum Sing is going ok so far, but I’m not sure if I will continue.

Are you watching any of the four lakorns that I haven’t seen yet? Thoughts? And what is going on in your life this month?

“The Good, Average and Ugly:” Hits and Misses of Lakorns OnAir Thus Far

lovefia

Posted on January 10, 2012

Under my totally subjective views, I’ve evaluated some of the lakorns that are currently on air and categorized them as good, average or ugly (a total miss in other words) and you can decide whether you’ll partake or bow out of it, this time around.

Average:

Channel 7 kookwans and real life former exes, Pancake and Weir, reunited their onscreen chemistry in Nangfah Gup Mafia, an action/romance drama depicting an Interpol secret agent who disguises as a mafia’s minion in order to extrapolate evidences and end its reign. But the only thing standing in his way is a meddlesome flight attendant, who apparently has devoted her life to make his a living hell. Hilarity and odd action scenes aside, Nangfah Gup Mafia also has some family drama (greed) and the theme of what a dutiful daughter/son would do for his or her loved ones.
Likes: If I were to have a choice of watching a n’ek chase after anybody, I’m ok with her meddling and chasing after the pr’ek. So much nicer than her chasing after the wrong guy, right? Such is the case in this lakorn, Maekala (Pancake) under the duty of repaying the debt to her foster mother who happens to be Ram’s (Weir) mother, is willing to do anything in order to turn him into an obedient good son. So she figures marrying the guy will solve the problem. (Ahem to single ladies, marriage is not always the solution to your problems (whether they’re insecurities, confusion, lack of goals). Ram on the other hand, agrees to marry her to get rid of the problem. (the same goes for men.. don’t marry because you think it will stop a meddling woman!)
Dislikes: The mafia’s daughter is annoying. She reminds me of a cross dresser (oops sorry), and she falls in love with Ram and is determined to destroy his marriage. Shortage of men perhaps in this world? But her character’s condition or personality has its reasons, so at least I can’t say she’s just there to annoy me. I also didn’t like some of the clichés in the lakorns.
At any rate, I thought this lakorn was enjoyable, the pace moved relatively quickly and everyone seems to have their reasons for behaving a certain way. I would give Nangfah Gup Mafia an average score so far, because although I thought overall it’s good, it’s still not compelling enough for me to watch it live or keep up (I’m up to ep 9.)

Good:

On the subject of action dramas, Mook Liam Petch, on the other hand is a total hit in my book. Even I am surprised. For one, I’ve never seen Susie’s or Rome’s lakorns before and didn’t expect to even watch this, to be honest. But I was bored and I needed my lakorn fix for the day and as far as I’m concerned, I’m glad I tuned in. As it goes (2 episodes so far) it is a total hit!
Rome is the President of Star Diamond and is a total workaholic. He does not have room for girlfriends or relationships, his words. But his mother, the matriarch of the family and feared among the household- excluding Petch, who thinks he’s defying her but always gives in anyway, so I guess he puts up a fight? –mom is determined to match make him up with Noo Mook- her ideal daughter in law. It appears Noo Mook dresses frilly, behave and talks like a teenager to spite her future betrothed. Underlining that however, Noo Mook is actually a tough, badass law enforcer who pretends to be otherwise in order to investigate the case of the stolen jewelry, Adorella.
Likes: Watching Susie being an airhead- she’s hilarious, even if it’s over the top. I loved how she pursues him constantly, telling him she loves him and such. Then she miraculously turns around and becomes the real Mookda convincingly. I never thought I would say this, but Rome’s great. How did I just discover this? He’s funny, reasonable and easy on the eye. At the moment, he doesn’t want anything to do with the bubblegum Noo Mook but wait til he sees Officer Mookda! I can’t wait to see the tables turning: how will Mookda react to being pursued by the hot, take no prisoner Petch? Because when he said ‘what is mine, will belong to me’, I believe him, even if he meant Adorella and not Mookda, for the time being.
I also enjoy Mook’s brother and Vicky’s couple. Cute, bickering scenes so far.
Dislikes: Too many evil/action minions but I guess they make the action scenes better. Fortunately I fast-forwarded through their scenes and watched only the good stuff =)
Although I like some eye candy, the pool scenes with the four guys and speedos made me uncomfortable, lol. Or when Jason Young was oiling up Rome and massaging him, haha, maybe you’ll enjoy it after all? I’m not a prude by any means, but gee whiz, it just screams “awkward.”
Tune into Mook Liam Petch on Weds-Thurs to see how the action unfolds (I’m up to Ep3).

Good:

Another lakorn that I didn’t expect to enjoy so much is Tomyum Lumsing. It aired this past Tuesday with episode 1 and I found myself smiling a lot and I’m not even a fan of Chompoo. She plays a lookthung singer who has been marketed by her PR as an American look kreung (mix blood) who adores the lookthung genre of music. And it will be her first time returning to Thailand (after being in LA since she was 5 yrs old) to launch her music career. Sounds interesting right? What’s even more interesting though, is that Chom’s character is actually not from America. She was born and bred in Thailand but her manager wanted her to sell this story. She went along with it (I assume so she can sing) but before her introduction to the industry, all hell broke lose. Will she be able to keep her real identity underwraps? What would you do to become a singer?
I liked how Chom and Por met under such funny terms, not your average, bite each other’s heads off first encounter. I like how Por crushes after her, how she pretends to talk the way foreigners do and that the storyline is compelling so far. Unfortunately there are some lose strings and annoying characters as well. I hope some of the characters are not merely there to annoy us, as the story unfolds. Watch Tomyum Lumsing every M-T to enjoy this musical, comedic lakorn.

—

A Miss:

Lastly, and to me, certainly the least, is 3 Num Nuea Thong. I expected this to be great, with the grown up, relationship and city theme, but much to my dismay, I am disappointed. I wanted to like it so much, but it’s just not happening, sorry. I don’t want straight up commentaries, show me intelligent, stimulating scenes!

—

But at least, I found Mook Liam Petch to be totally enjoyable, followed by a fun Tomyum Lumsing and an average Nangfah Gup Mafia. I’m still waiting and being really hopeful that a future lakorn will knock my socks off.

Well that’s all I’ve seen for now. What about you? Have you seen these lakorns? Let’s discuss!

Paat-Nammon in Miracle of Love Finale (Ep22 End) Eng Sub

lovefia

Posted on January 9, 2012

Time to say goodbye to our loving, adorable duo Alex and Mint in Rak Patihan. Although this series to me was like a marathon and a never ending see-saw of relationship at that, Paat and Nammon made it bearable. I hope we get to see them again (if not together) in another lakorn soon! Enjoy this last clip of them together.

Tawan Duead (The Boiling Sun)- Review

lovefia

Posted on January 6, 2012

Set in an unruly town known as Bhu Prakal (Death’s Mountain), the townsfolk regressed to the dark primitive ages after World War II, where survival of the fittest-in the forms of money, power and guns- takes precedence over friendship, law and common values.

The story began in the mountains of Fahrung Farm where a deep friendship went bad: Shakta and Bhupha. Thirsting for the ownership of Fahrung Farm, where hidden gems are abundant, Shakta contrived a plan to murder his partner Bhupha and seize the land. He hired Charan (Johnny Anfone) to fake the raid, but his plan turned extreme as Charan and his vicious outlaws massacred the entire farm, including Bhupha’s family.

BhuTawan (Mahk Prin) the son of Bhupha, escaped the deadly massacre by the help of Sarochna (Tao Somchai), his father’s best friend. Losing his parents and unborn sister, BhuTawan seeks refuge with Sarochna in a far away land, deeming to forget his home, childhood best friend Bejrrung (Yaya Urassaya), and everything else about the hell on earth, known as Bhu Prakal.

Ateam in Roy Mai (Silk Trace) – A Review

lovefia

Posted on January 5, 2012

Ateam, a nickname for the beloved onscreen pair “Aum” Atichart and “Aff” Taksaorn, has reunited for their fourth lakorn installment titled Roy Mai (Silk Trace), where they gifted the fans with a tale of two forbidden love: one of a teacher (Rerin) and a restaurant owner (Suriya) that unequivocally tied to another tale of their past life, a princess (Maneerin) and prince (Siriwong) some 70 years ago. And Aff, as Rerin, must release the bond that tied the past to the present, in the form of an unfinished loom, in order to free a wandering spirit of her former betrothed as well as awaken her own dying spirit. The conflict lay in her foe, Bua Ngern who was determined to stop her.

Ateam encountered several challenges while filming this particular drama; they must bring characters from the book to life, overcome the language barrier (that of the Thai Northeastern dialect) and still keep the audience compelled by their excited reunion together. Have they succeeded? Let’s take a closer look at their portrayal of their characters.
