Ateam in Roy Mai (Silk Trace) – A Review

lovefia

Posted on January 5, 2012

Ateam, a nickname for the beloved onscreen pair “Aum” Atichart and “Aff” Taksaorn, has reunited for their fourth lakorn installment titled Roy Mai (Silk Trace), where they gifted the fans with a tale of two forbidden love: one of a teacher (Rerin) and a restaurant owner (Suriya) that unequivocally tied to another tale of their past life, a princess (Maneerin) and prince (Siriwong) some 70 years ago. And Aff, as Rerin, must release the bond that tied the past to the present, in the form of an unfinished loom, in order to free a wandering spirit of her former betrothed as well as awaken her own dying spirit. The conflict lay in her foe, Bua Ngern who was determined to stop her. Ateam encountered…

Quick Feedback- Roy Mai’s Ending

lovefia

Posted on October 25, 2011

I have some mixed feelings about the ending. Have you seen it yet? Let’s just say that I’m not jumping up and down. Perhaps my expectations are too high. What did I expect from an ending when we have so much loose strings to tie? There’s just not enough time to cover everything and satisfy me. I just wish directors/producers realize that the ending is just as important as the beginning and middle. No excuses! It is their duty to tie everything together and package a nice, wonderful story. If you want to know what happened, Asianfuse has a script from the book that is eerily accurate to the lakorn, you can check it out here to understand what they’re saying: http://asianfuse.net/discuzz/index.php/topic/31547-roy-mai-act-art/page__st__1800 A few…

The Heartbreak in Roy Mai

lovefia

Posted on October 19, 2011

Episodes 13 and 14 brings Roy Mai closer to the climax of the lakorn, the end all. Unless the production has decided to change the duration of the lakorn, it should end next Monday at episode 15, which I don’t care to think about right now. Why can’t this lakorn go on and on? I will be happy to live vicariously through Siriwong and Maneerin’s world, for a long time to come. By way of summary, episode 13 marks the end of Mei as she takes her own life to prove her boss’s innocence (Siriwattana suspects Bua Ngern for slowly poisoning his father.) You may wonder how she got her ugly face after her death, well, while trying to prove her innocence, Bua Ngern…

The Magic in Roy Mai

lovefia

Posted on October 12, 2011

I have not gone viral or Selena Gomez on you, but I’m talking about the magic in Roy Mai, episode 12. The scream that was heard through twitter did not have to do with Siriwattana hiding behind a tree, crying at the scene before him. But I yelped, or screamed like a fangirl due to the beautiful, magical buildup of that very scene. Keep in mind that in the last few episodes, Siriwong has made up his mind to stay away from Maneerin, it was the valiant thing to do, the right thing to do. But no matter how much he tries, Maneerin would come after him, stirring the boiling pot of frustration, want and need. His pent up emotion is like the rope…

Black Magic in Roy Mai, A Step Too Far?

lovefia

Posted on October 4, 2011

We’ve been warned. “..There are many more terrible things to come,” the spirit of Siriwattana says, and so episodes 9 and 10 of Roy Mai explains just how bad Bua Ngern is. Prior to this episode, Rerin had asked the spirit of Siriwattana if he can find forgiveness, in which he responds with, once you see what happens, can you truly forgive that person? And we are left wondering if he meant Bua Ngern or himself. We are also left wondering towards the end of this week’s episode, if it is really worth it to use up majority of the episodes to delve into the voodoo realm and witness how evil a person can be? The focus of this week are the events that…

Roy Mai, An Ateam’s Best

lovefia

Posted on October 2, 2011

Roy Mai is a stunning lakorn, and with the script and chemistry between Ateam, it is easily the best Ateam lakorn to date. There, I said it. In Roy Mai, there is no vengeful slap and kiss (which leads to uncomfortable R scene) as we have in Jumleoy Ruk, no wasted yearning and horrible plot as in Namtan Mai, and no suspicious torture and family drama as in Botan Gleep Sudtai. Instead we are gifted with two Ateam’s love story in one drama, how can we ask for more? As far as the pacing of the story, I am totally ok with it. The pacing is appropriate in creating and bringing in both Suriyawong-Rerin and Siriwong-Maneerin’s love story to the surface. They have such…

Roy Mai Pulls At The Heartstrings

lovefia

Posted on September 30, 2011

There are many values tested in this lakorn, the clearest of them all is the stress in good versus evil, love versus hate, revenge versus forgiveness and essentially, that the people one meet in one’s new life are all ties to a chain of events from the previous life. Powerful? Indeed. It is also clear who the bad guys are and I would fervently reach for my Buddha pendant (if I had one) and pray wholeheartedly that I can survive this lakorn emotionally unscathed, because so far, I’ve been scared to my wits, shed tears of sorrow and want to reach out and give Suriyawong a big hug- my heart goes out to our hero! And.. I’m only on episode five. I’d like to…

Roy Mai: A Reflection Thus Far

lovefia

Posted on September 14, 2011

Roy Mai (Silk Trace) unites once again the beloved onscreen couple Aum Atichart and Aff Taksaorn in a romance and period lakorn, where forbidden love and drama unfolds into two different lives of two different times: present time and a time set 70 years ago. From Act Art production and director Off Pongpat, we can anticipate beautiful shots set in breathtaking provinces. We can also anticipate creepy ghosts and scintillating scenes ala Wayupak Montra. Off does not disappoint. Aff Taksaorn plays present day Rerin, a proper, beautiful and a woman who appreciates the intricacies of silk textiles. So much so she teaches this artistic endeavor in Bangkok. It is a rare find indeed for a woman of modern time to be enthralled in ancient…
