“Taking care” – Reflections on Ep 4 Khun Chai Ratchanon

lovefia

Posted on May 31, 2013

I like Chai Lek, I think he’s adorbs. But seriously, the boy can’t go around telling every girl that he’s going to take care of her. I mean, what does he mean anyway by taking “responsibility” over someone’s life? Typically in the lakorn world, the word is misconstrued as “marriage.” So it’s easy to see that Soifah misunderstands his meaning. She had been grounded by her daddy to stay in her room for 7 days and 7 nights. But her concern gets the best of her, so she jumps down her bedroom window and makes her way to check in on Khun Chai, who had saved her from a trap and got his forearm scratched up. But as she veers the corner of his…

Simply Irresistible – Khun Chai Puttipat

lovefia

Posted on May 20, 2013

In hindsight, the powers that be (channel 3 elders that is) are probably kicking themselves right now. They knew that the weekend prime time lakorn, Khun Chai Puttipat, is in the hands of Paajaew, a more than capable director. They also knew that the storyline and script will appeal to the general public; it is after all based off of a book series, and had been received pretty successfully. But they had no idea that the combination of the aforementioned, along with a budding actor and his chemistry with his costar, could culminate into something so irresistible. It is too late to request an extension, too late to supply the demand. But that is one of the reasons why I like Channel 3, and…

What we need in our lives

lovefia

Posted on May 13, 2013

Maybe even in society. Khun Chai Puttipat, our latest weekend installment, is serving to remind me that in a world with bad, bad men, there are also very good men too. The gentlemen; specifically Khun Chai Mor (doctor) who inspires doctors and nurses to do their best, champions the frail and underdogs, and ultimately, always chooses to do the right thing despite how difficult the opposition. I was at first blinded by his youthful flare, but after this weekend’s episodes, I am sold. So on board this James Jirayu train, as he takes us on a journey to more than fairytale conception- because he suffers from human tendencies too- but his character brings us the hope of good men. Speaking of those human tendencies,…

The Moon’s Enchantment (Mon Jantra) – Chakrit and Margie

lovefia

Posted on May 10, 2013

I’m so excited about this second part of the 3 Musketeers Series that I can barely contain myself. Simply with its title, The Moon’s Enchantment, one is spurred with all sorts of imagination. If Khun Samah (Chakrit Yamnarm) is the lunar, than our feisty reporter Sarawaree (Margie Rasri) will fall under his spell. Or is this a story about real enchantments? Whatever the case may be, I’m sold. This pairing is so electric! Part of the fun in watching a lakorn is not knowing what’s going to happen next. Perhaps that is my downfall with Maya Tawan, I remember so much of the original version (it’s embedded in my memory) and the remake just doesn’t measure up to the plot, the characters etc, that…

The simple backstory – a misunderstanding- The Cunning Love

lovefia

Posted on April 10, 2013

He was the big man on campus, the alpha male that drew females to him like bees to honey. Naturally Kemmick, an ugly duckling, found herself falling head over heels for him, P’Suea (Tiger), a man with a ridiculous mane and swagger. So Kemmick was attending a frat party- and she has low tolerance for alcohol- but upon seeing P’Suea’s cameo, she downed a glass (for courage) and immediately got drunk. When she passed out, P’Suea carried her heavy body to his room (out of the kindness of his heart?) and settled her in his bed. Kemmick aka Pooklook, a pet name that P’Suea gave her when she refused to tell him her name, woke up in the middle of his bed, naked. As…

The highs and lows – on The Cunning Love (Paen Rai Phai Rak) and Khun Chai Tharatorn

lovefia

Posted on March 26, 2013

Is it better to live alone than to have someone who enters your life and possibly hurt you? A person with a wounded heart, like a bird with a broken wing, feels this way about love, and is wary of letting someone in to mend it. Film Rattapoom sings about this for the lakorn, The Cunning Love (Paen Rai Phai Rak), but I wonder if he is singing about the leading lady Kemmik, who has clearly been hurt several times over, or is he singing about his character Pisang, who hasn’t quite divulged his broken hearted history? In this week’s episodes, we learn that Kemmik has decided to pursue the new “job” for money, for the sake of saving her world in essence, and…

The first gentlemen – M.R. Tharathorn

lovefia

Posted on March 13, 2013

Are you ready for some bromance? The next stretch of our weekend installments is the Gentlemen Jutathep Series (Supaburooot Jutathep), channel 3’s biggest project to date, where 5 producers and directors collaborate to create a period drama about 5 brothers. The first story of the series is Khunchai Tharathorn (M.R. Tharathorn) starring Grate Warintorn and Pream Ranida, directed by P’Num. Grate plays Khunchai Tharathorn Jutathep, a nobleman who is the eldest of the Juthatheps, and he decides to take on the burden of a promise made by his noble father, who wants one of his boys to marry the lady of Thewapob’s family. He’s a professor, the n’ek is one of his students. Although, about 60% of the storyline takes place in the forest,…

Nai Pued (Mr. Pued) – A Fanfiction

lovefia

Posted on January 16, 2013

Prologue Seven years after Nai Pued sat atop Chao Guay and regaled the happy ending of his parents, Phu Yai Lee and Malinee, Nai Pued was found at the very spot upon which his buffalo sighed its last breath.  The old girl couldn’t hold on longer than he could make the trek from his university in Krongthep to his hometown in Suphanburi, and she gave out before he could say goodbye. Such is the case with females, they are so mean; heartless, fickle creatures they are. They make him feel needed and loved but only to fritter away as if he was nothing to them to begin with. At the budding age of nineteen, Nai Pued has developed a severe distrust in females he…

What’s On My Radar (2013)

lovefia

Posted on December 29, 2012

The mark of a new year brings forth much anticipation, excitement and curiosity of what will come. It is also a great time to reflect the past year, what was accomplished, and what should improve. In our make belief world of lakorn however, we can only enjoy what is given to us. And with that being said, I find myself excited for a rare few. (Yet my pondering mind still cannot help but imagine what could have been if I had things my way.) First on my list, and first to air bright and early this new year is Raeng Prathana (Powerful Desires) starring Nadech Kugimiya and Kimberly Woltemas, the brother (Fai) and sister (Dr. Nam) in 4 Hearts of the Mountains. This time…

Murder Mystery in Qi Pao

lovefia

Posted on November 8, 2012

Clearly pointing a finger at a particular someone was too easy. Paeka had been inhibited by May Lee’s spirit while she was sorting out Qi Pao’s artifacts for the institute, and she was taken back to the time of the murder. In the possession, she was May Lee: she could feel the thickening of the air, the softness of the red Qi Pao with pink peony that draped her body, and the fight that she put up before the knife pierced her heart. The blood drained from her body and she fell lifeless to the ground. Paeka was still chilled from the occurrence and knew that she would help the girl solve her murder even before she made up her mind to do it.…
