3 Days and 3 Nights: Nang Rai Sai Lub

lovefia

Posted on August 25, 2013

There are only three things that our leading girl, Soh Surikarn, the number one lakorn villainess, fears: tarnishing her squeaky clean image, being a bad friend, and ghosts. Definitely ghosts. It’s one of those deep-seated, real fears that haunt her. So when a deceased mom and daughter decide to come after her to repay her debt, we get ourselves a nice lakorn trope, accidental roommates. It never gets old. Soh packs up her bag(s) for a weekend getaway to Inspector Bate’s home, who’s overbearing housekeeper is conveniently out of town, and with her skilled acting, convinces his humane side to host her. She’s high maintenance, he doesn’t give an inch: their shacking up bids uproariously funny and cute scenes that will make you grin…

How to win a gentleman in 10 ways: Kaen Saneha

lovefia

Posted on August 23, 2013

It may take your entire life.. but it’s worth it, ladies! If the Khunchais series is about being a gentleman, then Kaen Saneha is about being a suparbsatree (a lady.) And our Lady Rung, or Khun Ying Wimornpayorn has it in spades. She’s a saint, she’s Ghandi, and the epitome of what the show wants ladies to be. So without further ado, here are the 10 ways to win a gentleman, specifically a bipolar one like Khun Chat.

A gentleman, you are not, Khun Chat!

lovefia

Posted on July 16, 2013

At what point do you stop blaming others for the unfortunate events that occur in your life? Apparently for Khun Chat, the answer is never. He’s still hung up with the mindset that the newbies (Jan, Rung and Yord) only survived because his mother took their place in hell, the one place they belong. When he’s snarky and bullying Little Rung, we can somewhat accept that perhaps in his twisted little mind, he hasn’t quite worked out the grown-up, reality rationale yet. But as Little Chat turns into Khun Chat, polishing up his schooling, it’s not cute anymore. His character just comes off as being nuts. Which makes you wonder how in the world will he get the girl (or whether we want him…

A different kind of love – Kaen Sanaeha Ep 2 Impressions

lovefia

Posted on July 9, 2013

The second episode into Kaen Sanaeha (Furious Love), and I’m decidedly rooting for Khun Ying Kaekai. Bulahn is too weak of a woman to me, and even though she and Than Chai loved each other prior to marrying Khun Ying, Bulahn is still encroaching on someone’s marriage. Granted, we’re in a period drama where it’s ok to have multiple wives (who could seemingly get along ala Juthathep’s parents) but I don’t have a great respect for Bulahn. Her character is just a sappy romantic who misses her man so, and is willing to be an inferior. Whereas Khun Ying, who despite walking into an arranged, loveless marriage, she still hoped for some affection, although accepting that Bulahn is Than Chai’s true love. But Than…

And it ends (we survived) – Khun Chai Ronnapee Final Impressions

lovefia

Posted on July 7, 2013

It’s been a whirlwind of eleven episodes for Khun Chai Ronnapee. We knew when our fun loving, youngest Juthathep entered the filming set of Kinaree, and the leading actress fell literally into his arms due to stunt difficulties, Chai Phee’s life would never be the same again. And the dynamics of his character, as well as the tone of the Gentlemen Series would be forever changed. Most importantly, each episode is like getting the wind knocked out of me, leaving me gasping for air, wondering if I’m going to survive this whole ordeal. It’s the kind of lakorn that sucks you in, makes no apologies for hurting you and proceeds to do it all over again. But never once, sacrificing the emotional ties we…

The breakup in Episode 9: Khun Chai Ronnapee

lovefia

Posted on July 5, 2013

I simply cannot let this episode slip away without commentating- venting, spazzing, popping a blood vessel, whatever you want to call it- because the marathon of invoking pains to Chai Phee, and thereby me, has continued. Gawd, it sucks so bad being Khun Chai Ronnapee. I would not want to be a gentleman, much less a Khunchai because a fancy palace to live in, a fortune awaiting at my feet, but a life decided by my grannies, does not equal a happy life or a life worth living. So as a side note to Khun Pranod, don’t be a gentleman, run away, run far away from being anyone but yourself. It sucks balls, just look at your P’Phee. From the previous episode, Chai Phee’s…

Khun Chai Ronnapeeeee

Posted on July 1, 2013

Hello? Am I still alive? I think I might be dead. This show is killing me, you guuys, and it’s not even done yet. I don’t know if I’ll have anything left to feel once they are through with me. Each episodes this weekend takes us incrementally closer and closer to the relevation about Phee’s identity and status, a man of contradictions. He can singlehandedly oppose and fight an army of men, but cannot face the truth with his little lady, Piangkwan. If you’ve been following this series, or my blog entries about Khun Chai Ronnapee, you’d know that the deception started on a simple basis, but now has grown into one of the biggest conflict that will inevitably tear the two apart.

Exploring the context of love: Khun Chai Ronnapee

lovefia

Posted on June 23, 2013

John Lennon was onto something when he wrote, “All you need is love,” which ties in really well with the theme of love explored in this drama, Khun Chai Ronnapee, and that with love all things is possible. Along with the brooding, realistic tone from last weekend’s installment, the drama takes it up a notch by examining the fear, passion and love from within our characters, which offers depth to the story and solidifies the acting, directing and scriptwriting, I really could not ask for more, it’s completely my cup of tea, so hat’s off to Medtha Lae Mahaniyom.

Soifah our hero – Final Impressions- Khun Chai Ratchanon

lovefia

Posted on June 17, 2013

This fourth story of the Gentlemen Series gave us a funny and cute romantic story of Khun Chai Lek, a civil engineer who flees his marriage prospect in Bangkok to camp in Nong Khai, where he meets a group of Wieng Phu Kam refugees. He develops a bond with the compelling group and befriends (if a bizarre, funny friendship) with Soifah who saved his life. They marry, for her protection and convenience, and the two are tasked with the challenge of finding the missing crown prince so they can save the King and usurp their power in Wieng Phu Kam. Little did Soifah or even Chai Lek know that the missing prince and princess are right under their noses. Another challenge for the duo…

Where is the love?

lovefia

Posted on June 4, 2013

Although Khun Chai Ratchanon, part four of the Gentlemen Series is fast paced and has a relatively good plot, I don’t find it resonating with me on the level that the second and third part did. Allow me to explain why. The stakes are definitely higher, the plot thicker, but character development or even relationship development is surface level, lacking depth. We know Khun Chai Lek is adorable, playful and doesn’t take many things seriously- in exception to when he was forced to be engaged to a woman he hardly knew, and he hightailed out of town- but character wise, we haven’t gotten to the flesh and bones of his character. His relevance in this story is a catalyst to meeting our heroine, the…
