In the arms of the wrong girl- Ep 13 Recap This Land is Our Land

Sigh.. there’s a lot of that going on, from yours truly. Not the satisfied, happy variety. But the more, frustrated and exasperated kind. It was a rough episode, to say the least. Lots of unspoken, hidden emotions; Darunee being too self-sacrificing; and Toon constantly throwing herself at Athit! Brace yourselves as you watch this episode, it will be heart wrenching!

—

When Athit and Toon finally pedaled their way home, Vey wanted a word with Athit. He scolded Athit that he stepped out of bounds with Darunee, he didn’t have any right to be on the bike with Darunee when Vey, who was her “fiancé” (delusional aren’t we?) never had the opportunity to do that. Vey wanted to warn Athit in case he forgets himself because as a man, Vey knows what another man thinks. Athit was unaffected and told him that the difference is their perception, which angered Vey and he forbidden Athit to be alone with Darunee until he has married her. What Vey continued to say irritated me as much as Toon’s inconvenient appearances: Vey brought up that grandma wanted him and Darunee to marry, does Athit wish to deny her last hope? (Well I don’t see it written down anywhere!) Then Vey proceeded to confirm Athit’s insecurities, telling him that he is not suitable for Darunee, whether it is his job, education or even place in society. Then he deftly reminded Athit that Darunee is his grand-aunt- but Athit had the last laugh and told him that if Darunee is his grand-aunt, that makes her Vey’s grand-aunt too, because his dad is Vey’s uncle, which got Vey doubly mad.

Athit entered the farmhouse and collected his belongings to reside back at the worker’s quarters. Darunee noticed this and asked if she made him uncomfortable. Athit denied her statement but told her she might be uncomfortable having to share the same bathroom with him and it wouldn’t be suitable if he showered outside and stayed in the same house. Darunee is still confused why it would be uncomfortable to live in the same household so Athit explained that because they are have different genders, it is not suitable. Hey, if all else fails, just blame on the gender difference. Athit relented that when things are settled (comfortable) then he would move back in.

Darunee asked him if that is the time she is no longer around? If that were the case, she would be more than happy to move out. (She’s sad because he wants her to move out, whereas he thinks she wants to move out quickly for other reasons. Seriously people, tell each other what you really think!) He insinuated that Vey’s house must be a happy, comfortable place. She replied that he must want to stay at the farmhouse with someone in particular (Toon). One look at their faces and it is easy to see that their misconstrued statements hurt them, but of course, they are not able to recognize what is beyond their own pain.

Vey tattle-tell on Athit to his family but the adorable Vi defended Athit as usual. His father believes that Athit already knows the truth that Darunee is not grandma’s sister but he’s just keeping quiet. Which, in Vilai’s opinion, leaves them with the only option to deter Athit from pursuing Darunee: they needed to make him believe that it’s really grandma’s wishes that Darunee and Vey end up together. Her husband doesn’t believe her statement (I’ve always liked the uncle), and gave her a piece of his mind- about not forcing people to be together. Which lit a fire under Vilai and she decided they needed to put a plan into action before the second will is read. And Vi has found Dharma, although she studied it primarily to courting a guy.

The next day at the farmhouse, Toon is wondering if Athit would join them for lunch but Darunee said that he must have joined the workers for a meal instead. Back when grandma was still around, she had to get him for lunch all the time (I do miss those times..) and Aunt Kaew added that they were so cute together, always bickering and everyone wanted them to be an item. This worried Toon, but Darunee consoled that everyone were just cheering. She understood how hard Athit worked so she thought to bring a pretty girl to keep him company, which got Toon smiling and finally, she is off to chasing Athit.

At the rice fields, Toon flattered Athit profusely. She continued to say that he seems very dedicated with his work and she asked if he was dedicated to love as well? As he helped her across the fields, she tripped and fell into his arms; they looked into each other’s eyes. He’s clearly attracted to her, who wouldn’t when a willing woman is gazing so openly and hungrily into your eyes? She decided that she would sing him a song while he worked and dedicated the song to him. The song is about meeting someone for the first time and knowing that he is the one. As she’s singing this, she grabs his attention by placing both hands on his neck and turning him to her. Darunee was also there, and watching this unfolding before her eyes. Not able to stand the scene, she walked away. Then Toon told him that she feels exactly that way about him… ugh, so painful.

Darunee is back at the farmhouse, hurt at what she witnessed. Of course Toon walked in with Athit (with her arms attached to his) and asked if Darunee was alright. Aunt Kaew said that she must have been starving because she had prepared a picnic basket for Toon and Athit and had delivered it. Before Aunt Kaew could elaborate, Darunee said that she didn’t make it there (to cover up from her embarrassment of being caught watching them) and said that she had a minor headache and came back. Athit was worried about her, that was nice to know Mister, since you were so enamored by the attention you were getting earlier! It was bitter sweet though to see the concern in his eyes. They look at each other, with the awkward knowledge standing in between them. This scene was so sad to watch, Toon feeding Athit in front of Darunee, and Darunee watching them, then Athit watching Darunee watching them, sigh.

It gets worst. Vilai stopped by to speak to Athit. She wanted to let him know that she’s asking for Darunee’s hand in marriage to Vey- this is just for formality purposes to save him face since he’s the Guardian- but she indicated that she had already spoken to Darunee before she graduated. Now that she’s settled down and done with school, Vilai said that there shouldn’t be any problems. Athit said he would talk to Darunee but Vilai interrupted and told him that since Darunee respected him, he should be able to decide for her. Athit will not decide anyone’s future and insisted that he would speak to Darunee. Vilai added her final comment, if he truly loved her (like a sister) than he should be able to realize that Vey is the only person who is suitable for Darunee.

Athit visited grandma’s gravestone to comfort his mind. And people with the same hearts think alike, Darunee was also stopping by to show off her newly acquired dessert cooking skills. Athit felt this was a good a time as any to bring up the conversation he had with Vilai.

“It’s an important issue (that has to do with you)” Athit started but has a hard time continuing, “Aunt Vilai she- she is asking for your hand in marriage- to P’Vey.”

“How did you respond to her?” Darunee asked, needing to know his thoughts.

“I- I couldn’t really respond, aside from discussing this with you first, as your Guardian.”

Darunee darted her eyes away. “How do you think I should respond to her?”

“She told me that she had already spoken to you about this.”

“Yes.. but that is not important,” she looked at him, “The utmost important thing to me – is what you think I should say to her.” Darunee looked as if she wanted to hear him say, no.

“I can’t tell you how to answer that.” But you know you want to!

“Where does your happiness lie?” Darunee asked him.

“My happiness? To see you happy,” he replied.

“So is that with Vey then?” she asked pointblank.

He looked away and said, “Well Vey has everything that is suitable for you.”

“And he has a house in the city, you want me to live there right? Because you have someone here now,” she asked him, thinking that he wants her to marry Vey so he could live in the farmhouse with Toon.

“It’s not like that,” he uttered, pained.

“I understand now, if you want to stay here with Toon, alone. I can go live with Aunt Kaew. But I beg you, don’t force me to go anywhere else. Please don’t be that cruel to me.”

She walks away and he runs after her. Pulling her back he utters, “Nong Nee,” they look into each other’s eyes for a long time then he finally says, “if you don’t dislike it, I’d like to take you back.”

But he didn’t say what she wanted to hear, as she turned her face away, saddened by the prospect that he might not care for her the way she wanted him to after all. Ah, so sad.

He’s pedaling the bike while she sat behind him, silent the whole way back.

Back in Darunee’s room, Toon asked her if she had any feelings at all for Athit since they’ve lived together for so long. Darunee convinced her that she didn’t think about anything because they were siblings, even if they weren’t real brothers and sisters. Toon kept asking her if she was sure, and Darunee repeated the same answer, knowing full well she’s denying it! But really, a friend should evaluate another friend’s reaction not based on what she tells you all the time, but her demeanor too.

At the worker’s quarters, the three stooges try to help him decide who he should choose, in the end they recognized that Nee has always worked along side him and and never left him. Athit said that it can never be.. but he finds himself walking over to the farm house and standing outside of her window. Looking up at the light that has yet to go out. Darunee was still awake while Toon is fast asleep. But as she walked towards the window, Athit was turning back and she sees his retreating form. Thinking to herself that he was here to see Toon.

The next morning, Aunt Kaew is frustrated with the turning of events, she complains to Uncle Kreang that Nee is trying to hock her friend off to Athit. Uncle Kreang said that maybe Nee has fallen for Vey now, since he has been pursuing her for 3-4 years while in college, maybe she has succumbed to his charms? Aunt Kaew thinks that there is no way that Nee would fall for Vey, she feared Athit would be falling for Toon first. But Uncle Kreang wasn’t telling her what she wanted to hear, lol.

Darunee was walking along the trail with Toon when Toon opened a can of worms. She asked Darunee if she was planning on getting married soon? Darunee looked at her all confused and asked why she thinks that. Toon said that she overheard Athit telling the workers that Nee has a fiance now and is getting married. Shocked, Nee told her that it wasn’t true. Toon added that Athit also mentioned that Nee would be moving with her fiance soon too! Oh no he didn’t!

Furious, Nee went searching for Athit. She found him at the lavender farm.

She parked her bike and went up to him, “Toon told me that you told the workers that I have a fiancé now and am getting married, is that true?”

He looked up at her from his seat on the ground, “It’s true.”

“How can you say that?” she asked.

“Why are you angry at me? It’s the truth right? One day you will marry.” he said.

“Even if that will be true, you have no right to decide for me. You have no right to offer me to anyone!” But you’re offering your friend to him.. on a platter!

Athit stands up. “I know that I have no right to you,” – wait no, that’s not what she meant! “I’m just acting as your Guardian, that’s all.”

“A guardian.. a guardian is not the owner of my life!”

“If you think that I’m too involved with your life, then I apologize for that. From now on I will not bother with your life again.”

“P’Athit!” she called after him. “Do you really want me to marry P’Vey?”

“Do you want Toon to be my girlfriend then?” Hey wait that’s another matter entirely different then what we’re talking about.

“I want to see you happy. And I know that Toon will make you very happy,” she said, -wait, how will you know that?!

“You will be happy with Vey,” he responded.

“If that’s so, I will do whatever you want,” she told him.

“And regarding Toon, I will do whatever you want.”

Good god they’re handing each other off to the other person!

Darunee is in tears, “Fine then.”

She walks back to her bike.

Athit is near tears and turns around to watch her walk away.

It’s all wrong!! But I liked watching Nadech standing there with his hands in his pockets, definitely eye candy!

At the orange farm, the three stooges thought he had reconciled with Darunee. Can’t they tell that he’s upset? Lol, they deserved to get their butts kicked. Athit was not in a good mood.

When Darunee got back to the house, Toon said that Athit had promised to take her to the waterfall. Nee told her that she would take her to see Athit. Tawan came in and Aunt Kaew was trying to get Toon to realize that he’s Athit’s son, but Nee tries to avoid the conversation.

Golly it’s so tiring to watch Nee pushing her friend on Athit, she even brought Toon over to where he’s working and asked him to take care of Toon- and not to forget what they’ve talked about! Gee whiz, I get it, you want to be nice, but can’t you tell you’re punishing on yourself and him? It’s stupid and a little too self-sacrificing for me. He tells her that he won’t forget, he will do everything according to what she wanted (sigh.)

As Nee watched them pick the oranges, she remembers the time when they were friendly (and no Toon around) and their closeness. She remembered him telling her that he won’t leave until she kicked him out. She retorted that a hard worker like him is hard to find, lol. Then added that he’s the heart of the farm, and they cannot live without the heart. Athit asked her if “we” included her? Absolutely, she said. She placed the orange to her heart and tells him that he is her heart! Awe! He’s smiling from ear to ear. I love how the flashbacks are all new, so we get to enjoy new conversations and scenes between Nee and Athit. But as she walks away from the reality, Athit can only look at her retreating back. Sigh.

Aunt Kaew is determined to talk some sense in Darunee. She told her to think carefully about what she’s doing. Nee answered that Athit doesn’t love her, he only thinks of her as a sister. Aunt Kaew asked her if she really didn’t know or if she’s pretending (lol.) I say the former! Darunee said she knows that Athit likes Toon and they’re well matched. Aunt Kaew is exasperated. I’m exasperated. Darunee believed wholeheartedly that Toon could live here and change herself because she loves Athit. Aunt Kaew asked her where she planned on living then. Nee mentioned that Vey is not a horrible person, “everyone” says that they are suitable. Aunt Kaew wanted to know who “everyone” was.. and continued that suitability is not as important as love. She wanted Nee to stop thinking about that and ask herself if she truly loved Vey and if she was willing to lose Athit to Toon. Otherwise it might be too late. Good one Aunt Kaew! Couldn’t have said it better myself.

At the waterfall, Toon admired the scenery. She loved it all, especially Athit. He could only stand by the tree, looking uncomfortable. She kept trying to invite him to play in the water but he said he had work to do. Athit told him to tell her about his work, he was managing a project between Australia. Toon said that her mom is in Australia and she will be studying there. He said that it is such a coincidence. Toon couldn’t resist saying that everything that is happening between them is more than coincidence, it’s fate. He looked shyly at her.

Darunee is strolling towards the waterfall, the conversation with Aunt Kaew heavy on her mind. She finally said to herself, “I’ve made up my mind, Athit and Toon’s happiness is my happiness.” She walked closer to the waterfall..

Toon confessed to Athit that he was her dream man (she has been literally looking for him for so long.) Athit tries to change the subject and remove his arm. But she’s planning her next attack and falls into the water. As he goes in after her, she held his face between her hands and went in for a kiss.

Darunee walks by and sees them kissing- this solidified the pain in her heart. I think she can handle it if she doesn’t see it, but now that the glaring reality is in her face, it’s not that easy! She ran all the way back to the farmhouse where she cries and cries. Her plan came true, they’re an item! But she’s not happy! That should teach her to stop wishing for things she can’t handle!

She was in the midst of her thoughts when Vey came in to see her. He wanted to invite her to celebrate one on one. Celebrate? Vey reminded her that today was her birthday! Lol, she almost forgot. Aunt Kaew said that she didn’t forget, she has already invited everyone to come celebrate with her this evening.

Toon and Athit showed up, soaking wet. Ugh, must we be reminded of their frolic in the water? Aunt Kaew reminded Athit that they’re celebrating Darunee’s birthday that evening. Athit was walking away when he said that he has never forgotten, and by this time, Nee is in tears.

Tod witnessed Toon and Athit’s kiss at the waterfall and was recounting it to the boys. He said after that, Athit just asked to go home. Tod wondered how Athit could kill the flame so fast, if it were him he’d take it all the way, lol. Tod is afraid that at this time, Toon wasn’t willing to let him go. Athit walked in on time and they all wonder why a person who should be happy isn’t happy. Cause he was kissing the wrong girl?

In Darunee’s room, she is found crying but tries to cover it up when Toon walked in. Toon wishes her a happy birthday.. but she didn’t have a birthday present for Nee so she planned on singing her a song.

And the birthday party commences! Darunee walks in looking all adorable with her hair in a high bun. She tries to smile, but it doesn’t reach her eyes. Everyone sang her a happy birthday song and Vey presents her birthday present- in a pink box. He opens it and a beautiful diamond ring presented itself. Vey tries to put it on her left hand, but she hands her right hand instead and he kissed it. Toon watched Athit’s expression and he was not happy. They asked what he got for her, but he merely kept quiet about what’s in his pocket and said that he had a song for her instead, lol. Nee just looked at him, solemnly. Toon looked awkwardly at the two, noticing the tension.

In grandma’s room, Darunee came to pray to her grandma. She wished for happiness for Athit and Toon- then Athit showed up and added that he wished for happiness for Vey and Nee too. Golly! Darunee turned around, she was caught off guard.

“I understand now how much you want me to end up with Toon,” he said.

“Yes,” Nee replied, “everyone is gone now, right? Are you staying here tonight?”

“No just walking Toon back then I’m heading to the workers quarters.”

Awe, so sad. Sigh.

Toon was waiting outside to say goodbye to Athit.

“Did you forget something?” Athit asked her.

She told him that she forgot to say goodbye to him. Then she walked closer and kissed him goodbye (on the cheeks folks, no need to hyperventilate!) She told him to dream of her. Toon is baring her heart in the open, said that she is brave in offering her self to him because she loves him. That surprised both Athit and Aunt Kaew who overheard her confession. Toon asked Athit if he loved her. He said he’s not the kind of guy who has everything, can she accept a person like him? She came in closer and puts her arms around him and told him that they should start a family together. Wah, moving a little fast, aren’t we? Aunt Kaew made her presence known and broke the little party.

That night Athit was examining the gift he intended on giving to Darunee. It was a ring but he didn’t think she would like something that has no value like the diamond ring that Vey gave her. Tod reminded him that Nee wasn’t that type of a person, she valued the thought more than the gift itself.

In Darunee’s room, she listened to Toon gush about Athit and her starting a life together. Nee asked if Athit asked Toon to marry him and Toon said she would be so happy to marry him. Nee is frozen with the news, she could only muster “congratulations” and “you’re so lucky..”

Athit revisited the idea of presenting the gift to Nee. He walked back to the farmhouse in the middle of the night, hoping to catch a glimpse of Nee. As he waited outside the patio, Nee finally came out because she couldn’t sleep. She asked him if he came to see Toon. As they sat across from each other, she told him that she missed grandma, if the older lady was still around, she wouldn’t feel so lonely. Athit comforted her and said she still has this older brother. He then said that he didn’t give her a birthday gift yet. As he takes out the ring, Darunee interrupted him and said that he has already given her a gift- the fact that he asked Toon to marry him, that is the best gift he could have given her. She added that when you see the person that you love the most have happiness, that is the best thing. Athit kept trying to tell her that he didn’t give her a gift yet- but Nee said that she was sleepy now and tries to walk away.

“Does your heart really want me to marry Toon?” he asked her, again, frustrated.

“I thought we’ve already agreed on that. You agreed with me, otherwise you wouldn’t have asked her to marry you to this extent,” the tears were starting so she tries to walk away.

But as he stopped her, he held onto the hand that has Vey’s ring on it. “I shouldn’t have asked,” he started, when he saw the ring, “You and Vey, you guys beat me to it.”

“Yes,” she confirmed. “Please excuse me.”

“Happy birthday,” he said. “I wish you the greatest happiness.”

“Thank you..”

Darunee ran into her room, sobbing. But he doesn’t know that, for all he knows, she’s in her room, excited about her new diamond ring. He took his ring out and looked abysmally at it.

Aunt Kaew watched on with wariness.

Darunee realized that she was making a lot of noise crying, so she ran towards the window where Athit stood watching her room. He finally tells himself to stop dreaming and stop thinking for once.

The following morning, Darunee is still sad about last night but when she saw Aunt Kaew, she plastered a smile. Aunt Kaew tries to tell her that grandma wants her and Athit to end up together (so do I) which confused Darunee because she said that Aunt Vilai told her one thing and now Aunt Kaew is telling her another. Aunt Kaew says that she’s close to grandma, so she would be the one to know. But Darunee is convinced that his opinion matters more than what grandma wants, “he loves Toon, not me.” Aunt Kaew said that she was the one who keeps pushing Toon to him! Aunt Kaew is frustrated and I don’t blame her. This scene propels Aunt Kaew to do something, and fast!

At the strawberry farm, Athit feeds Toon with a strawberry. (Well, she told him that if he feeds her, she would try it.) She noticed the ring that he wears on his pinky. He told her that it was a ring that he made. Toon thought it was adorable that he can make rings and take care of 10 siblings. After further thought, he said that no one would want a ring like this. Toon said that it is a valuable ring to her because it is a ring he made. He asked her if she wanted the ring? And appears to seriously consider offering it to her..

Ugh! Don’t give it to her!

If it’s any consolation, at least Athit is not in love with Toon. We know where his heart lies, no matter how afraid or unworthy he feels towards Darunee, he’s merely doing this to make her happy, as she tries ever so hard to shove Toon down his throat!

If the preview is any indication, it’s going to get real interesting.. so stay tuned!

Perd Gong Wic 3 Recap: Rak Kon Tao Fah

lovefia

Posted on July 23, 2012

Ken Theeradeth’s handsome face greets us as he explains the meaning of the title, Rak Kon Tao Fah.

“The term Rak Kon Tao Fah is actually referred to moms. It’s like when we were children and we try to express how much we love our moms, we would say “rak mae tao fah” (which means I love you this BIG, to the sky, imagine the arm spreading wide action.) “

His on screen mom’s voice tells us that if we didn’t have a child, we wouldn’t know what it’s like. She has raised her son since he was a wee child until he’s a grownup, then one day some random girl would show up and take the one thing that we love away from us.

Ken explains that the story surrounds the relationship between a mom and her son, the dutifulness and bond that are between them. In order to create an interesting environment to support this idea, they made a story about a man that from the outside appears perfect. Then many love interests enter his life and they all fall in love with him because he’s a good person, but in the end, they cannot accept his mother. Ken thinks that this has or can happen to many people. Especially in Thai society, the conflict between a mother and her daughter in law is widespread and people could relate to each one of these nang’eks. Each has their own story and they come in and out of his life.

Chompoo Araya talks about the significance of the cast. She said that since it is Noi Bussakorn’s directorial debut, she would pick four of the nang eks that she loves and obviously loves her back. At first, the character that Ploy plays was supposed to be for Aom Piyada, however she got pregnant and wasn’t able to accept the work. It was a coincidence actually because they were discussing the script at a restaurant and Ploy happened to be there as well, so they invited her to join the cast.

Ploy appears with a grey jersey shirt that showed off her slim shoulders. She said that she is happy to join the team but at first she didn’t feel anything or thought too much of the role. However when she learned that Noi is directing it, she immediately wanted to partake.

Cherry Kemapsorn nods her head and said that she was happy Noi thought of her. The moment Noi asked her over the phone, she immediately accepted, without even reading the script or knowing the storyline first.

Marie Broenner smiled widely and said that she’s very excited to be working with veteran actors- very excited that she was chosen.

Apparently Joy is also in this lakorn, she said that all four leading ladies are beautiful and the viewers would be happy to watch such beautiful ladies on screen.

Back to Ken, he said this was their (Noi and his) dream. The first one was to cast the four ladies and secondly to have them all come back and play in the same scene together (in the end, I presume.) He felt it would be difficult because of the conflicting schedules.

Ploy said that it was fun to be in the same scene with everyone. It depicts the real life well because she could imagine that if she were the character, she would wonder about pr’ek’s girlfriends, which one is the new girlfriend and which one is the old girlfriend. This causes a lot of tension and so true to a woman’s way of thinking. Ploy loved that aspect- the fact that it’s relevant to real life.

Chompoo added that everyone (the four girls) all have a common denominator- the mom is dead! She starts to laugh (probably uncomfortable that she’s happy the mom is dead lol) and says that they have never forgotten Ken and now that his mom is dead, they all want him back.

Cherry felt that the scene where the girls encounter each other was such a short period of time. The only correspondence was when they each talked with the pr’ek. The other time was spent sitting at the ceremony, not talking, but wondering who each other was and ultimately who the pr’ek was going to choose.

Ken smiled and said that it is a scene that will make the viewers want to follow the drama.

Since it is Noi’s directorial debut, what are some challenging elements for her? Noi’s pixie hair and pretty face greets us and she said that location was one of the hardest things she had to battle. First off, pr’ek is a Pilot (Captain) and thus needed to look adept at flying so they enrolled Ken in a simulation class. Also, because he is a commercial air pilot, they would need scenes that were shot abroad as well. It was a scene where Ken and Cherry’s character fell in love.

Cherry mentioned that Japan was one of the location they shot at, they happened to be there during the perfect season- where the blossoms bloomed religiously. Prepare yourselves folks, because there will be lots of flirting and sweet scenes between Captain and Oum! The Captain thinks that because Oum is a family person, she would suit well with him (yeah, I bet she doesn’t have a psycho mom.) However, when she brought her parents to meet with his mom they all realized that they are unsuitable and ended their relationship.

Then Joy’s character enters his life. She used to be his ex-girlfriend back when they were in school together and she hopes that old flames can be re-ignited, so to speak. Joy’s vibrant smile greets us as she tells us that her character really didn’t start off being evil. She had no intentions to steal him away from anyone, but as time goes by, his mom used her as a means to end the Captain’s relationship with prospective girls. We see that the mom is brainwashing Joy’s character that the Captain misses her and is in love with her, which gave Joy hope and thus, she carries out the mom’s orders.

Pim (Ploy) is found lying on Teera’s chest on a hammock as she tells him that she feels that his mom likes Kiti (Joy) more than her. Teera reassured her that she’s the future daughter in law, how can his mom like someone else more than her? Pim doesn’t look convinced. Ploy said that she hasn’t played this type of character before, someone who is very feminine, sweet and lovely. Ploy likes the script because it speaks to the human aspect of people. It speaks to a female’s insecurities and her perspective.

Ken explained that his character and Ploy’s are very much in love and we’ll see a buildup of that love before they marry so we are convinced of the feelings and relationship. There will be obstacles until finally, we see Ploy alone in a hotel room, the picture of her and Teera collapsing to the ground. She’s sitting on the bed beside a heart shape made of red roses, wilting between her fingers.

The man (Teera) decided to brace his heart and think that he doesn’t deserve to develop another relationship. Because if he had to choose between his mom or girlfriend, he is unable to do so. It’s pretty clear dude, that you chose your mom.. just saying. Teera then decided to be on his own.

Then enters Chompoo’s character, a kid that he grew up with and is one of his neighbors growing up. She secretly crushes on Teera, we see her asking him if he liked the mountains or the sea more. Teera replied that anything was fine. Chompoo’s character loves the sea and she invites him to spend time with her at the sea next time.

Chompoo’s character thinks that a relationship should exist between two people, not including his mother. Her character is not the type to wish someone bad things but she is outspoken. One day when she had the opportunity to meet with Teera’s mom, she was very straightforward with her. Chompoo’s character would confess that she loves the son and why is the mom worried? She’s going to die eventually, lol. But she soon thought to herself that she is not suitable for someone like him. In the scene with his mom, she asked the older lady how old she was this year. The mom answered that it wasn’t any of her business, but Chompoo’s character said to the mom that if she were to die today, how could she prevent Teera from loving someone? As Chompoo and Ken frolic in the woods, we hear the mom’s voice yelling in the background that whether she lives or dies, she will never allow Chompoo’s character to fulfill her love with Teera. Craazy.

Chompoo’s character is the one, Ken said, to actually tell Teera that the problem doesn’t lie in his mom, but it lies in him. Wow, so astute! As Chompoo’s character walks away from Teera, she tells him that when his mom is no longer with him, he can come back to her. And we hear this same phrase spoken by Ploy’s character and Cherry’s character.

The last person that enters Teera’s life- Noi explains that they were looking for a new n’ek and met with Marie. After talking to her, Noi thinks that Marie is very cute and she would be a good fit for the final character. When she (Marie) smiles, she’s vibrant. Especially, Marie’s character is a nurse and she needs to be good hearted. Marie appears and says that she’s very happy with the script (role.) It is a different role than what she has played in the past. It will enable her to experiment and gain more experience (as an actress). I hope so! If her past lakorns were any indication, she still needs a lot of work. Mayhaps Ken will be the cure?

The final clip of Perd Gong Wic 3 enabled us to see several cute, romantic scenes between Ken and his four love interests. Apparently this “hot stuff” has great chemistry with everyone!

Marie said that she’s very excited- and Ken hardly speaks to her, lol, but when they film, she learns so much from him and he’s very narak (cute.)

Cherry said that Ken helps her acting a lot too. When they were filming in Japan, they were under time constraints and couldn’t always re-take scenes and must act on the spot, so often times she’s confused. But Ken helps keep her in check.

Ploy smiles her sassy smile and said that she’s been waiting for so long (in regards to acting with Ken,) he’s a very cute person (behavior wise, cute can be used in many context) when he plays as your love interest, it’s believable. She has always wondered how he can remain as a pr’ek for so long, but after filming as his love interest, he is so very natural- especially when he’s with his love one, he’s holding your hands etc. She can believe that (while playing this role) that he really loves her character. Ken is very talented, truly talented; she has accepted this fact now. It’s so cute how she’s gushing about him. Celebrity crush!

As for Chompoo, her acting with Ken is the same as before. Everyone that is on set is familiar and she feels that she doesn’t get up every day just to go to work- it’s more about her going to meet with people she knows and those she enjoys spending time with.

We see more clips of Teera and his leading ladies (separately) telling his mom that they are in love. The mom is livid and reminded him that he has always told her that he wouldn’t love anyone but her. She tells him that there will be no other woman who would love him as much as her. Teera explained to his mother that he couldn’t stay with her for the rest of his life. And finally we see Teera hugging his final lady, Marie.

Ken would like to leave Rak Kon Tao Fah to your viewing pleasures. It is a good lakorn, if he does say so himself, it is dutifulness from a son to his mother, but most importantly, it is a lakorn that encompasses many “hot” nang’eks: Ploy, Chompoo, and Cherry. It is his and Noi’s debut attempt, so please stay tune!

If you are curious about Ken and his four leading ladies and you want to see how his crazy mom sabotages his relationships, do tune in! I’m sure there are some profound messages at the end, somewhere.

“Be careful what you wish for, Darunee” – Ep 12 Recap of This Land is Our Land

Posted on July 22, 2012

In Darunee’s condo, Toon is shameless, staring at Athit like he’s meat on a stick. She said that he is good in farming plants, fruits and can cook. Darunee added that he could fix tractors too.

Athit, uncomfortable and embarrassed with the attention from Toon, stumbles over the garbage. She overtly smiles at him, couldn’t take her eyes off of him. And Darunee is looking at both of them as if she couldn’t be happier, her plan may just come true.

The three sat around the table, prepared to eat the cabbage meal he prepared. Toon kept flattering him about how she loved everything he cooked. I don’t think Athit could handle all of this attention and flirtation fraught on him at one time, so he chokes on his food. Not that he appeared to not to like it, just that he looked uncomfortable and shy. Heck, she makes me uncomfortable looking at her looking at him. What’s a guy to do?

After their meal, they sat in Darunee’s living room while Toon stared at him. Trying to make conversation, Athit told her about the benefits of the stalky leaves she held in her hand. He continued that it was high in vitamin E and helps your eyesight. Toon said that she should eat more of it everyday so she could keep looking at him for a long time to come. (Gag anyone? She’s turning into Vey, maybe they would be perfect together.)

Embarrassed at her flirtation, Athit looked at his watch and said it’s getting dark and he should leave. Toon told him to stay at Darunee’s but Athit didn’t want people to talk.

As he walked down the hallway, Vey comes rushing in, about to pummel his face in when Vilai tells Vey to take it easy. Vilai wanted to know where he took Nee all day because he brought her home so late. She reminded him that he liked Darunee like a sister. Vey is furious, accusing Athit that he took Darunee to a hotel. Athit told them that they didn’t go anywhere- but before he could finish Vey accused him yet again that he was sleeping with Darunee in her bedroom! Appalled, Athit grabbed Vey by the wrist and told him to respect Darunee like a sister and not insult her with his assumptions. Vilai is standing by the sidelines shocked at the scene before her. Vey has a dirty mind! Methinks Vey is upset because he has never been invited to Darunee’s condo, lol.

Athit turned to his aunt and told her that he wasn’t alone in the condo with Nee, she invited her friend for dinner as well. When he mentioned Toon, Vey got angry and asked Athit if he wanted both girls? Since Vey was unsuccessful in winning over Toon lol. I can’t take Vey seriously; he’s such a pansy and gets jealous because Athit is getting all of the attention.

When Athit left, Vilai asked about Toon. Vey said that Darunee wants to match make Toon up with Athit. Happy, Vilai said that it meant Darunee doesn’t have feelings for Athit. But Vey said they weren’t suitable because Toon is rich and pretty- she doesn’t match well with a farmer like Athit.

Upstairs, Toon was in a good mood and singing a song about how she wants to hear him say that he misses her often.. the girl is sprung! Darunee examined the plants that Athit left for her, and muttered that he does such a good job. And that a good person like her P’Athit, only deserved someone who is cute like Toon.

In Athit’s hotel room, he receives a phone call. It’s Toon! Wow, this girl is making all of the moves. She told him that she forgot to tell him goodbye before he went to sleep so “goodnight and sweet dreams.” Then she hung up, leaving Athit in mid sentence. Toon tells Darunee that she’s shy too, not sure how to comport herself. Then she freaks out again because she forgot to take a picture with Athit. Wow, maybe I haven’t been around too many teenagers (they are college students in this case) so I forget how boy crazy they are, lol. Darunee promised to take Toon to visit Athit when they finished school. Toon is motivated and tells Darunee that she will finish her studies in three year’s time so she could volunteer herself as Darunee’s sister in law.

In the morning, Darunee gets ready for school when she notices a sheet of paper on the floor. Then she receives a phone call that someone was waiting for her downstairs. Athit had forgotten to give her a check for her allowance last night and hope that she doesn’t get irritated with her guardian. She teased him that her guardian is getting forgetful (probably due to the events last night..) Before he could offer her a ride to school though, Vey stepped in, all pompous and loud that he had scheduled to come and get Nee and that Athit should head back to the farm in case the plants die. Nee chastised Vey on why he’s so hassled when Athit was going to head back anyway. Athit can only watch them walk out of the door together.

It is another sunny, beautiful day at the orange farm where Athit is busy making a bow out of strong leaves for Tawan. Tawan is sitting snugly to his left while the farm workers wondered why he didn’t just buy a toy from Bangkok. Athit replied that for one he didn’t have time and secondly they were all made out of plastic and he didn’t want his son involved with that. Awe, Athit is such a dedicated father!

Thongprasri watched from afar with Aunt Kaew. She was looking prettier, I must say, well it was all wardrobe change that helped. She said that Athit is doing such a good job raising Tawan, teaching him what’s right and wrong. She told Aunt Kaew to tell Athit that she’s going to have him take care of Tawan for a while until her husband could move closer and she would take Tawan back. Aunt Kaew said to go whatever she needed to go, Athit loved Tawan like his own. They both watched Athit, Tawan and the farm workers horse around.

More time passes by as Athit continues to manage the farm and factory while Darunee takes one exam after another. She carries the little flower that he had given her as her good luck charm.

And the moment she finishes college arrived. Glasses were clinked as Darunee and Vilai’s brood celebrated her accomplishments. She finished college in three years time, they all pointed out. Darunee was a bit more humble, she said that they should wait for the results first then they can celebrate later. Everyone thinks it’s a moot point. Vilai also wanted to celebrate another great day. She can now go and ask for someone’s hand in marriage to her son. Darunee wondered who it was not realizing that they were talking about her. Darunee looked uncomfortable but Vilai said that Darunee should start thinking about fulfilling grandma’s wishes. That’s so underhanded! Confused, Darunee asked what it was. Vilai (delusional) tells Darunee that grandma had wished that Nee married Vey so they could take care of the farm together.

Darunee explained that she wasn’t yet ready to start a family. Vilai asked if she had someone else in mind? Darunee replied that there is no one, so of course Vilai said that they should spend more time getting to know each other then. Before they could discuss this further, Vi’s new love interest gets introduced!

That night, Darunee writes a letter to Athit, sharing her good news and that she kept her promise of finishing her education in three years. If everything goes smoothly, they would see each other by Sunday.

Athit read the letter in the midst of the rice field, where the green of the field and the blue of the sky just hurts the eyes. But he’s happy and smiling, especially when he read that she’s coming back for good. She is also bringing a little “love” for him and that he should prepare to welcome her.

And that little love interest has arrived with Darunee. She was disappointed however, when Athit did not pick them up at the airport.

At the cabbage farm, Darunee came to greet Athit. He apologized for not picking her up but he was tied up with a customer. He welcomed her back home. Darunee tells him that she has brought a little love for him. Toon appeared with a wave of her hand. She hopped closer to them and said that she missed him. (omg.)

Apparently Uncle Kreang wasn’t very pleased that Darunee took Toon to meet with Athit. As he stood around chatting with the other farm workers and Aunt Kaew. He also told them that it appears that Toon is going to be here for a long visit. Irritated, he said that Toon is smitten with Athit because she kept talking about him. Aunt Kaew excused herself to see to Darunee.

Darunee introduced Toon to Aunt Kaew, this was the best friend she had talked about. Tawan came by to greet them and Darunee gave him a squeeze. Toon said that he was so cute and wondered who he belonged to. Immediately, Darunee stopped Jingjaew from telling the truth and said that Tawan was a relative’s kid and grandma had decided to raise him. Aunt Kaew looked questioningly at her. When they were alone, Aunt Kaew asked why she didn’t tell her the truth. Darunee wanted them to get closer and fall in love before she tells Toon the truth. Aunt Kaew asked if Darunee wanted Toon to court Athit, lol. Darunee explained that she wanted to redeem her bad behavior in the past by hooking him up with a good person. Aunt Kaew was adamant that Toon and Athit were not suitable. Darunee was sure that once they fall in love, Toon would be able to accept everything.

Darunee brought Toon to grandma’s room to give respect to grandma when they realize that Athit is currently sleeping there now. Toon apologized for entering his private space. Darunee relented that soon it wouldn’t be his private place, that someone would accompany him here. Ok, aren’t we laying it on a bit too thick here, Darunee?

Toon freaks out again when she learned that they will be sharing a bathroom and that he’s only a doorstep away. Darunee told her to behave herself because Athit has never really dated anyone so he may just have a heart attack if she doesn’t tone it down a bit. Toon said that he is totally her type.

At the dinner table, Toon asked Athit why he didn’t utilize any cellphones, ipads.. technology. Athit adopted the same values as grandma and knows that they’re important but for the type of work that he does, it’s not necessary. Toon thinks that he should have at least a cellphone so he could communicate with someone special. Athit explained that the signal is bad here and it would take too much time out of his work. Toon flattered that he is so dedicated to his work, and said that every time they talk he always mentioned work. Athit asked what else does a man say to a woman? Lol, you innocent. You’re going to be eaten alive by the tigress!

Aunt Kaew couldn’t help but insert that Athit works all the time and doesn’t have time for any females, except for Darunee. Toon is blind to the message and kept staring at Athit. Aunt Kaew is not happy.

They went outside to watch the moon, but Toon was too busy watching Athit. As they walk along the orange farm, Toon wanted to know who she needed to ask if she wanted to work there. Athit said she needed to ask the future owner of the farm- Darunee but they both tossed it back and forth. In the end, Darunee said that if Toon could stay here forever, it would be even better.

The farm workers spied on the love triangle but Athit used his gun to scare them away. Darunee wondered why he was carrying one. Athit explained that these days, he carries one at night to protect himself. There are thieves and wild animals about.

The moon is bright and beautiful, Toon offered to sing a song to them, she picked one about the moon. It was the same song that Athit’s father usually sings to his mother and the family. Toon has a pleasant voice, serenading to Athit. Lol, she’s taking out the big guns.

Bright and early the next morning, Darunee walked in on Athit while he was shirtless and brushing his teeth. They embarrassingly turned away.

Later Athit takes the girls on the farm tour, as they walk through the orange farm he told them about the new species of orange that smells good, sweet and the best seller. He walked towards the tree and pointed at one, it is called Darunee #1. Upon hearing this, Darunee was touched. She never knew he named a tree after her. He told her that he created it when she first went to college. Toon said that she wanted a tree named after her too. Darunee encouraged her to stay longer and surely Athit would. Then Toon attaches herself to his arm and said she wanted to go with him on the tractor. Ugh, I think I’m going to be sick. To top it off, she climbs in to sit in between his lap while riding the tractor truck.

As Darunee prepares the meal for the afternoon, Vey stops by and learns that Toon was here for a visit as well. He immediately asked for Toon, lol. Aunt Kaew instigated that it sounded like he really wanted to see her. Vey said he doesn’t have eyes for anyone except for Darunee. He then followed her every step. Aunt Kaew is frustrated, it’s all wrong in her eyes. (Mine too! How about we switch couples?)

When Athit sees Vey with Darunee after they delivered the lunch, he looked solemn. But doesn’t really stay that way for too long because Toon reached out her hands for him to hold. While at lunch, she decided to spoon-feed him. Poor guy, he hasn’t been in a romantic relationship with anyone so was caught off guard. Upon reaching the farmhouse, she continued to remain attached to his arm and they went to prepare dinner. Love Aunt Kaew, she stopped Toon from going with him by asking her how she made her famous tuna salad.

When Athit walked to the porch outside, he noticed Vey coming in with Darunee. He couldn’t help himself but throwing a jab about how soon enough Vey would have someone to cook for him. Jealous aren’t we? I like it! Darunee watched him walk away with concern.

Athit wanted to try the dish Darunee made for Vey when she visited his home. He came to the workers cabin and demanded that they make it for him, lol. Unfortunately none of them had any.. the workers want to celebrate with him that he had a beautiful girl who’s riding tractors with him etc. I love the interaction between Athit and his workers, they’re hilarious.

That night, Darunee brushed Toon’s hair while Toon spouted how awesome Athit is. Tell us something that we don’t know, Toon! Toon soon fell asleep while Darunee thought about what occurred earlier. Maybe she didn’t like to see Toon and Athit together as much as she thought she would?

Early the next morning, Athit and her opened the bathroom door at the same time. She told him to go first because she knows that he takes fast showers. Athit wondered how she knew that. She reminded him that after they got in the water fight, grandma had him shower in the back, didn’t he remember? Athit then said she must have been spying on him, lol. Caught! Embarrassed, Darunee told him to call her when he’s done. They both stood on opposite ends of the door, smiling.

At the rice field, Toon came running, calling his name. But she trips and fall, Athit helped her up. Nee wanted them to spend more time together so she told Athit that Toon wanted to see the strawberry farm. Athit told her that he had some business to attend to at the orange farm, but Darunee told him that she could take care of it. As they walk away, Darunee looked on with mixed feelings.

At the strawberry farm, the two are left to enjoy the atmosphere.

Aunt Kaew was not pleased that Darunee let them spend alone time together at the farm. Darunee told her that was the only way they can get to know each other. Aunt Kaew felt that Toon would fall in love faster than she would get to know Athit, lol. And Athit has never met anyone like her, how could he not be attracted? Darunee said that was a good thing, she would be able to hold a niece/nephew soon. Awe Darunee, you don’t even realize you are saying things that are hurting yourself.

Back at the strawberry farm, the worker that Athit and Darunee helped with the baby came to greet Athit. He immediately asked for Nee and wondered when Athit and Nee would get married and have kids of their own. Toon looked at Athit questioningly. Athit said that Nee has already been spoken for. Toon felt relieved to hear it from Athit’s lips.

Aunt Kaew noticed Darunee standing by the door, looking out. She surmised that Darunee missed Athit and said that what if Athit and Toon falls in love for real? Wouldn’t Darunee cry her eyes out? Darunee said that she would only have smiles for them.

Toon walked in with Athit, still holding on to his hand. She wanted to go everywhere he goes. Athit invited Darunee to go too because she has never seen the lavender farm before. Aunt Kaew said that he planted it especially for Darunee.

At the lavender farm, Darunee was amazed. She imagined what she would do with it, she could make shampoo, bread, etc. Athit teased her that she’s always thinking about sweet stuff. They teased back and forth, so natural and cute. Toon noticed this and her face fell and decided to interrupt their teasing moment. She wanted to take pictures instead. Darunee had them pose romantically so she could take their photo. Athit was stiff so she had them take several more. As she tries to find a better spot, she suddenly tripped over a rock. Immediately, Athit pulled his arm away from Toon and rushed to rescue Nee. Ha! Toon looked all surprised because he looked so concerned for Nee.

Darunee rode the same bike as Athit while Toon rode on the other one. As they breeze through the path, Darunee put her head against his back as she remembered what Toon had said about Athit- that he smelled good. She leaned even closer to sniff him and smiled widely. I bet he smelled good! But she realizes that she’s acting out of the ordinary and pulled her head back (because she liked it too much? lol.)

Vey came speeding behind them in his car and said he didn’t want Darunee riding on a bike because it’s dangerous. Darunee said that she grew up on the farm, she’s used to it. Athit didn’t like seeing Nee climbing into Vey’s car. She turned to look at Athit with a half smile. Toon was happy to be alone with Athit once again, but noticed that Athit could not take his eyes off of the car that Darunee was in.

As much as this episode was almost painful to watch- Toon practically throwing herself at Athit- it did serve to show Darunee how much she cared for Athit and that she liked him more than just a brother. We already know that Athit has feelings for Darunee, and it’s nice to see that even if he’s distracted by Toon’s attention for a fraction, he still gets jealous when he sees Vey with Darunee.

A relationship that is too hot too fast, is an infatuation, not true love. We shall see how this plays out.

I was sad that Athit and Nee didn’t have a lot of “alone” screen time, but when they are together, I do cherish it. Especially when she tripped and Athit became so worried about her where he practically rips Toon’s hands away from his.

And Toon is starting to see the kindling fondness (that is not due to being kins) between Athit and Darunee.

Preview for next episode: it looks intense!

It will be Darunee’s birthday and Vey presented her with a ring. Next, we see Athit giving Darunee something from his heart- I’m just saying that because it’s not as valuable as Vey’s. And Toon is in for the kill! We see her touching Athit’s face and going in for a kiss. We can hear her voice saying that what is happening between them is fated. Darunee happened to walk by the stream and saw them kissing. The final scene showed the farm workers surrounding Athit, Toon, Darunee, Thongprasri and Tawan. Toon asked Darunee who Thongprasri was, and Thongprasri immediately said, “how dare you ask that- I am Athit’s wife!” Darunee glared at Thongprasri.

Can’t wait! In the meantime, let’s discuss. What are your thoughts on today’s episode? This week’s episodes?

“And life goes (beautifully) on” Ep 11 Recap of This Land is Our Land

lovefia

Posted on July 21, 2012

Vilai and family emerged from Darunee’s room after they had tucked her in bed. Vilai wanted to have Vey and Vi spend the night so they could take care of her, comforting someone during a tough time is a “golden” opportunity to get on that person’s good side. However, Vey and Vi didn’t heed their mother’s advice because they feared grandma’s spirit is still roaming the farm. Which leaves Aunt Kaew and Jingjaew to watch Darunee.

Athit stood by the door watching Darunee’s distraught condition. She was still crying in her sleep. He sat on the bed beside her as she murmured in her sleep. Athit grasped her hands with his and held tightly for comfort. She begged grandma to come back to her, don’t leave her- she’s now all alone in this world. Athit consoled her that she still has him. Darunee settled down with those words as Athit held on to her hands.

Eventually Darunee’s eyes opened and she sees Athit’s face. He tells her to rest well as he gets up off the bed. Aunt Kaew leans in to help her take her medicine and Athit watched on with concern.

The day of grandma Daeng’s cremation arrived. All Darunee could do is sit and cry by the casket, wishing for the same things that Athit had pleaded for at the foot of grandma’s bed. She felt everything was so late for her, she hasn’t finished school, she hasn’t worked, most importantly she didn’t have the opportunity to repay grandma’s generosity. With wretched tears, Darunee said that she didn’t get to hug grandma, didn’t get to tell her that she loved her, she didn’t even get to see grandma’s face for the last time. After signaling for her kids to comfort Darunee, Vey and Vi came by to console her. Vey told her that he’s here for her now, she didn’t need to cry. Delusional fool.

Not able to handle the scene before him, Athit left. Maybe he’s wishing that he was the one to openly comfort her in public? As he walks aimlessly down the path, he came across a familiar face. His father.. who showed up at the farm that he ran away from many years ago. With mournful tears, his dad kneeled in front of grandma’s casket. Athit’s uncle walked in and peered curiously at his brother’s back.

Atop the hill, grandma’s casket is set afire. Everyone stood around, crying, giving their final farewell to grandma, as grandma’s voice offered her final nugget of wisdom.

Athit stood alone, gazing over the mountains. He asked his uncle if he could bury her gravestone at her favorite spot. His uncle said that he would have to ask Darunee and see if she consented. Vilai is absolutely against this as she thinks that grandma would not rest in peace without proper religious burial.

Apparently she doesn’t know grandma at all. Upon the reading of the will, grandma gave her offspring’s even amount of cash, 30 million baht. The remaining items that belonged to grandma (including farm etc.) lies in will #2, which will be read when Darunee finishes college. While Darunee is still attending college, Athit will be her sole guardian. (Yours truly is jumping for joy.) Athit is surprised, Vilai and family are surprised too. Athit’s dad rescinded the offer for the 30 million baht because he felt he didn’t do his part in help caring for his younger siblings or help grandma care for the farm. He felt it was only fair that they take his share. Vilai agreed.

And finally, grandma would like Athit to move into her room and install her gravestone at her favorite spot – she indicated on the will that he knew where it was.

Athit’s dad is very proud of him, and he hope that he can continue grandma’s legacy. Even though he didn’t receive anything, Athit was happy enough to care for the farm in her wake. That is, until the person who is meant to care for the farm takes his place (I think he’s referring to Nee’s future hubby, lol.)

Grandma’s two sons came face to face. Athit’s uncle thanked his dad for all that he has done. Athit’s dad said that he should be the one to thank him- for taking care of their younger siblings in his place. Athit’s uncle used to be angry at him, but he credited his current success to the tough time he had growing up. Athit’s dad regretted running away in the past but Athit’s uncle said that if he didn’t do it, would Athit had the opportunity to take care of grandma’s farm today? Excellent point uncle! And they made up with tears of joy.

The next day, Athit and Darunee were planning on burying the gravestone. Before they left, Aunt Kaew equipped them with a letter from grandma, who had given the envelope to her a while ago.

At the burial site, where the green grass grows and pretty white flowers adorn the bushes, Athit told Darunee that grandma likes to visit the spot often when Darunee was at school. She liked to look over her land and admire what it has become. Saddened at the prospect, Darunee’s tears continues to roll down her face. Athit took out the envelope and urged her to read the letter that is addressed to them. Darunee is crying as she reads it out loud:

“To Athit and Darunee, my beloved grandchildren: by the time this letter has reached your hands, I have already left this world. I would like to thank you both for fulfilling my dreams and happiness. I am so very lucky to witness your growth into a respective man and woman, the beauty in both body and mind. I am so pleased to see my own land, the fruits of my labor with every breath that I take. And relieved to have my grandchildren who will care for this land in my stead. This is enough to make me rest in peace. For Athit, I ask that you take care of Darunee in my place. And Darunee please love and respect Athit. I truly believe that Athit can fulfill my duty by caring for Darunee very well. With the greatest love to you both, Grandma Daeng.”

Darunee hugged the letter to her heart and cried. Athit pulled her into his arms, comforting her and promising her that he will take care of this little sister of his until someone (worthy) takes over. Darunee cried into his shoulder. In my mind I imagined that he didn’t add “until someone else takes over..” sigh.

They walked along the beautiful green rice field. Darunee said “it is as beautiful as I have dreamed it would be.. but it would be even more beautiful if us three can stand here and enjoy it together.”

Athit put his arm around her shoulder and told her that they are, grandma is with them at the farm. This seems to comfort Darunee as she realizes that grandma will stay on the farm, forever.

Now that the consolation scene is complete, we have to show who’s boss! Since grandma passed away, the meager farm workers decided that they no longer have to work until they were told to. The three stooges at the manager said that the rest of the owners are not dead. The meager farm worker, being disrespectful, asked them who’s going to take over the farm for grandma? He started listing how everyone is incapable of managing the farm. When Athit and Darunee appeared, he challenged Athit to a fight. If Athit wins, then he is worthy of being the boss.

Athit was more than happy to oblige. He let the farm worker throw the first punch. But immediately, Athit pounced on him with several punches to the face until the farm worker fell to the ground. Then suddenly, the other farm workers jumped in and decided to get pummeled in the face too. Finally, after they have had enough beating, they called him boss. Athit looked at them and said that grandma has recently passed, why couldn’t they respect her spirit? If this occurs again, Athit would fire each one of them. Yeah, you show them who’s boss!

At the farmhouse, Darunee was afraid that they would cause even more problems for Athit. But Athit was convinced that the farm workers wanted to see if the remaining family members were tough enough to handle the farm. Fighting was a way to show them that he is strong but he’s not always going to have to fight them. The best solution, Athit thinks, is to show them that he could handle them. Darunee looked on with awe. She believes he could solve any problems, which made him laugh and hurt from the blow on his lips. Vey walked in on time to see Darunee examining Athit’s lips closely.

When Darunee went to grab the medicine for Athit’s lips, Vey asked Athit what the hell had happened. Athit explained that he had a run in with the farm workers and Nee was looking after the cut on his lips. But Vey was convinced that it was a small cut and Athit was trying to get Nee’s sympathy. Athit stood up, giving him a stare down. Vey warned him that if he loved grandma, he needed to do as she bid and not overstep the boundaries of his guardianship. Athit balled his fist and replied “yes” and left.

Darunee came back and wondered where Athit went. Vey told him that Athit complained that his work at the farm is already hard, now that he has to be her guardian, he wouldn’t be able to eat or sleep. Darunee was saddened by the words but Aunt Kaew spoke on Athit’s behalf and that he would never say something like that. Vey you can’t even measure up to the guy so you’re going to talk shit?! But the seed has been planted and Darunee is afraid she is just another duty for Athit.

By dinner time, she told Aunt Kaew not to bother Athit about eating with her. She felt that he might be too tired to worry about a ward like her. Athit came in time and told her that he was not tired, unless the ward doesn’t want her guardian to care for her anymore. Lol. So flipping cute.

Nee turned around with a smile and invited him to dine with her. Aunt Kaew is so cute, Nee had invited her to dine with them but she kept making excuses so they could be alone.

She looked awkwardly at him, so he asked her if she was uncomfortable eating alone with him. Did she fear someone would be unhappy? Stop instigating, Athit!

“And who are you referring to?” Darunee asked.

“I don’t know, I’m just asking. If you’re unhappy I can eat with Uncle Kreang.” He gets up to leave.

As he walks away she said, “you’re going to leave me alone then?”

He turned around, and she looked sadly at him.

After dinner they walked through the farm and Darunee asked him about staying in grandma’s room. He indicated that once she goes back to school, he will take care of that, didn’t want her to feel uncomfortable. Then Darunee asked him about Tawan.

“I’m going to raise him like before. But regarding his mother, I’m not going to bother. I’ve never bothered with her since the beginning.”

Darunee thanked him for not abandoning Tawan. With a smile, she then said that she hoped he wouldn’t abandon this ward of his too, lol.

“Now with this person, I would never abandon,” he reassured her, “this ward might be even bored of her guardian first.”

Darunee shook her head.

After looking at her too much, Athit forced himself to leave. Darunee warned him to be careful, he might encounter a snake. Athit teased her that should he encounter one, he would be sure to scream from the top of his lungs. Lol.

The morning of her departure back to Bangkok, Darunee visited grandma’s gravestone to say goodbye. Darunee opened up the conversation about her illegitimacy.

“P’Athit, you do realize that I’m not really related to grandma?”

“I didn’t know,” he said. “I admit that sometimes I have wondered, every time you talked to grandma about this. I didn’t dare inquire because I felt it was your personal business. I figured, once you’re ready to tell me, then you would do it on your own.”

“It’s time now..” Darunee answered. She proceeded to tell him that she was the child of grandma’s father’s last wife but she does not belong to him. Her mom had an affair with another man and had her. She has never met her father. Grandma had adopted her based on pity, that was all. Athit consoled her. Darunee continued that when she first met Athit, she was very jealous because he was the real grandson and he would take the affection away.

Athit smiled, “If I had known, I wouldn’t have meddled. I only messed with you because I needed to reprimand a stubborn kid.”

“I’m not stubborn anymore, I’m a good kid,” she said. “So if anyone thinks I was acting that way because I wanted grandma’s inheritance, they are thinking it on their own. You should be relieved that I don’t want to take anyone’s inheritance.”

“That’s not why I’m relieved,” Athit said with a grin.

“Then why are you smiling?”

He paused and looked at her shyly, “I’m smiling because you’re not my great-aunt.”

She turned away with a smile.

They arrived to Darunee’s condo in Bangkok. She invited him to her condo for a break until the traffic dies down. He was afraid it was inappropriate. Darunee laughed, she asked if he wanted her to put a sign on him that he was her brother? He warned her not to trust people so easily, lol. She said that he was the exception, if she couldn’t trust him, she couldn’t trust anyone else in this world. Darunee is too cute! She pulled him by the hand into the condo where they stepped into a crowded elevator. The students looked at them awkwardly.

When they got to her room she wondered why everyone was staring at them like that. Athit told her that they were a traditional society, if she was in public with him it would be ok, but she brought a man to her personal space so people would think negatively. Also, Athit thinks that she hasn’t brought any one else to her room before this. Darunee told him that she trusted him- then she smiled when he told her not to trust anyone else, and especially, not to bring any men or be alone with them because it’s dangerous.

“Yes sir, your guardianship,” Darunee said as she gave him a glass of water. He is sitting on her couch as she kneels by the coffee table. “Anything else that I need to be aware of?” she asked as she peered directly into his eyes.

“There is, and this is an important part,” he said as he looked in her eyes. She leaned in closer, and they are almost face to face. “Do not smile and make eye contact like this with any other guy.”

She pulled back a bit and scrunched her face, “why not?”

“Because.. it’s” he started as she leans in even closer.

“If you’re going to warn me,” she said, “you should have a reason correct?”

“The reason.. “ he looked at her, trying to find one. “No reason! But as your guardian, I’m ordering you not to smile at another guy like that ever.”

“Will do,” she relented and leaned in with another smile, “but I can smile like this only with you, right?”

Caught off guard with her proximity and intense look, Athit downed a glass of water in one gulp and awkwardly dismissed himself.

At the end of the door, he leaned against it with his heart beating rapidly in his chest. Haha, you know you’re not resistant to that adorable face, Athit!!

The next morning Athit came by to tell her that his car wouldn’t start and it’s at the mechanic, so he wouldn’t be able to take her to school. Darunee asked what he was doing until then and he told her that he had a few errands to run and customers to meet. She volunteered to take him on his errands since she didn’t have class until the afternoon.

Didn’t realize that she meant taking him via tuk tuk, lol, but a great way to have two bodies close to each other!

Toon came to see Darunee, but learned that a man had picked her up. Assuming that it was Vey, but coincidentally she ran into him and it was determined that Athit was the one to pick Nee up. Vey volunteered to take Toon to school but they get into a verbal battle in the car, she’s always throwing verbal jabs at him. When he tried to flirt with her, she told him to drop her off on the side of the road. When she climbed into the cab, she noticed her dream man buying a drink. She gets off immediately and starts looking for him. Wow, persistent aren’t we? Immediately she calls Nee, telling her that she saw her dream man again.

Athit’s car was finally fixed and he dropped Darunee off at school. She’s trying to introduce him to Toon, but he said that they can do it next time because he was afraid the car may give him trouble once he’s on the road. She looked like she wanted to say something so he asked her what is wrong.

She said, “this ward unfortunately doesn’t have any money. If the guardian doesn’t give her any money, she wouldn’t be able to feed herself.”

“I’m sorry, I had forgotten. I’ll transfer your allowance immediately.”

Happy, she thanked him profusely, and put her head on his shoulder. He placed his hand on her head and didn’t want to remove it, but finally did with a ‘there was a stick in your hair’ excuse. Sure, Athit.

As he drives off, Toon comes running out and they both want to tell each other something at the same time. Toon is totally head over heels for her dream man. Darunee really wanted to introduce her to Athit but promised to show the picture to her and she will surely see.

Back at the farm, Athit asked the three stooges to take a photo of him so he could send it to Darunee. They teased him again, lol. I just adore their interactions. Athit stood stock still while taking the photos, not sure what to do with himself. They teach him how to pose. So while he’s in his natural state, the guys snuck and started taking pictures of him.

Darunee smiled at all of the photos of him and called Toon to tell her she had pictures of P’Athit to show her.

As she looked at the last picture, Darunee said to his picture that she used to did him wrong before, but now she’s going to take care of everything. Oh god, I hope she’s not trying to hook him up with Toon. Surly she will only end up hurting herself!

The next morning Vey came to take her to school and noticed that she had Athit’s pictures. Darunee told him that she wanted to show them to Toon because she’s cheering for the two to be an item. Vey took the pictures without her knowing, lol, apparently he didn’t want Toon to see Athit either! The one thing I appreciated!

At the farm, Vilai is reviewing the accounting books. She openly asked Athit when they would start seeing even more profits. He said that it would take a few years because of the natural disasters that ruined a few of their crops. Vilai questioned his due diligence in book keeping, he is only responsible for reviewing the final accounting book, not to keep the numbers as they have specialists for that. Aunt Kaew totally has his back as she defended him.

As he walked him out, Vilai mentioned that she heard he was continuing his education- bachelor’s degree. She hoped that he wasn’t doing that so he could treat the business like it’s his own. This lady is relentless! So afraid that he would take her money. She should be glad, because he’s only getting more experience and education to better the farm, in which, everyone will benefit in the end. Vilai felt that he’s getting a higher education because he wanted to compete with her son and Nee. Athit adamantly told her that he’s continuing his education for exactly that- more education, not to compete with anyone. He said that he couldn’t compare to Vey or Nee anyway, which appeased her for the moment. She kept repeating that grandma wants Vey and Nee to be an item. It must be exhausting to be in her presence.

Darunee is taking her test and she recalled that at the end of her term, she would return to help him with the farm. Athit assured her in the letter that he would take good care of the farm, waiting for her return. He reported the progress of the farms to her, excited for her to see the changes. At the end of the letter he says that he worries about her. After reading this, Darunee was touched and stared longingly away.

Vey finally graduated and came to visit the girls. He is still deciding on what he would do with his career.

The rice grains have matured, enough to actually become its full shape and form. The farm workers all wondered out loud that it would be nice to have Darunee there with them, to encourage them. Athit said that even if Darunee or grandma is not there, they needed to perform their best in cutting the stalks . He asked how many helpers they had.. then everyone heard Darunee’s voice adding herself with the group.

Everyone beamed with joy when they saw her. They worked together in chopping the leaves. So cute. Later, they presented the grains to grandma at the gravestone. Darunee said that next year she wouldn’t come to help him. She will be back to live here again. Athit asked grandma to be the witness. Darunee wondered if Athit didn’t believe that she would come back to live here or that she would finish her education in three years.

“I’m sure you will finish early but I’m not sure if you will return. Bangkok has so much more to offer you,” discouraged he walked away.

She followed him, “But Bangkok doesn’t have mountains or land where I can develop to support ourselves.. they don’t have grandma nor P’Athit.”

He turned around and muttered, “Nee..”

“I’m coming back to live here, P’Athit. Grandma is our witness,” she said.

Darunee left the farm to go back to Bangkok.

Later Athit prepared to deliver the grains to the customer in Bangkok. Athit carried Tawan in his arms. He told Tawan to let dad know if the workers are not doing their job (how cute! He referred to himself as dad!) Athit will be spending two days in Bangkok. Him and Tawan exchange hugs and kisses as he prepares to leave. I like seeing Athit as a father figure.

He arrived in front of Darunee’s condo and takes out the key that Darunee gave him the last time he came. She gave him permission to stay there in case he needed to rest for a few hours.

Later that day, Toon was in her car when she saw her dream man crossing the street. She called after him, trying to get his attention but it didn’t work. She’s totally freaking out when she saw Darunee. Complaining that in this lifetime she will never get to meet him.

Ah, the time has come to introduce Toon to Athit. As much as I’m not looking forward to it, I’d rather just get it over with already. Darunee sees Athit walking towards her as Toon is still freaking out about not being able to meet her dream man, then Darunee described what the dream man was wearing. Toon turned around and there he was, the man she’s been meaning to meet.

Stunned speechless, she was only able to stare dumbfounded. She pulled Darunee to the side and told Athit that they will be right back. Hyperventilating, Toon tells Darunee that Athit and her dream man are the same person. Darunee tells her to breathe.

Darunee made the formal introduction. Toon told her about the first time they’ve met, but Athit couldn’t recall. She described the situation and he finally remembered. Darunee invited him over to the condo and they will cook him a meal. Toon couldn’t help but spasm in front of him.

When Darunee got to her room, Athit had decorated the plants from the farm all over her condo. That was so sweet, Darunee was touched. She smelled food and Darunee went to the kitchen, he had already prepared some for them.

Toon kept complimenting that his actions are so cute.

That is true, my dear, but Athit is for Darunee so HANDS OFF!

Ha, just kidding, just a little psycho fan watching going on over here.

Golly, I can’t imagine how this could get any cuter between Nong Nee and Athit, but I’m sure there’s still more in store for us! I’m sure your face is hurting as much as mine.

Ok, so spasm aside, here are my actual thoughts. I’ve really enjoyed this episode because we can see that the feelings are getting stronger for the two, although they are not at full fledge love, but they are noticing that their hearts beat faster when they are around each other. Darunee has learned to respect and trust Athit and looking up to him as her true guardian/brother. She just doesn’t realize her feelings for him, or when it has developed. Athit is becoming a real man, with real problems and responsibilities. He’s not only responsible for Tawan and the farm, but now Darunee. We see him achieving his dreams of being an adept farmer, now he will have time to focus on other aspects of his life, like love. Thus the introduction of Toon who will help him differentiate his true feelings (for Darunee.) Ah.. our love story is going to get very complicated. Conflicts and love interests!

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s episode folks!

“It’s so hard to say goodbye”- Ep 10 Recap of This Land is Our Land

lovefia

Posted on July 21, 2012

A touching episode that got me reeling with emotions: nostalgia, longing, and finally, a sad farewell to grandma Daeng. Take out some tissue papers, friends, you’re going to need them.

—

The morning following the great storm, Athit furiously plucks the rice stalks that were floating on the paddies. Darunee, grandma and Vilai’s brood looked on with concern. Darunee yelled at Athit to stop, it was useless. But Athit needed to revive them; it was grandma’s dreams to see the rice field, he couldn’t fail. But grandma told him that she has many dreams. Mother Nature needed to remind them of their responsibilities to the land: if they neglect it, this was their punishment. It was not our fault. Furthermore, grandma has shed tears and lost many times, but she has never given up. They cannot lose faith- they must start over.

So they agreed to replant the rice stalks next year.

Vilai noticed that grandma is really fond of Athit so she warned her children to step it up a notch; they needed to do everything to show not only Darunee, but grandma, that they can compete with Athit. Did she not realize that her kids are all bark and no bite?

So the next day, Athit had an idea about building a dam that can help prevent the water from flooding the area for the rice fields, he is just filled with smart ideas, isn’t he? They planted trees in the area and then proceeded to the stream to build the dam. Vey tried to show off that he knew what he was doing but fell into the water instead, causing hilarious uproar among the people.

Finally, it was time for Darunee to return to Bangkok. The sun rise at the cabbage farm and Athit was deep in thought. The workers asked him if he was thinking about sending Nee off? Then grandma called him into the farmhouse. Once there, she wanted to know if he could do her a favor and meet up with one of the new customers in Bangkok. Since Vey was at home in bed (due to this enthusiastic activity yesterday), Darunee needed someone to drive her to the campus. As they both walked out of the farmhouse, Aunt Kaew said that they are so well suited. That, they are..

As they drove through the farm, passing the orange, then the sunflower fields, Darunee fell slowly asleep. Her head began to lull and Athit adjusted her. He muttered that she looked so tired. She has been working so much whenever she comes home for a visit. When he drove a bit further she started murmuring in her sleep. He listened to her scolding the farm workers on how to plant correctly then she uttered Vey’s name. Athit looked uncomfortably away.

When they reached Bangkok, she was still asleep and Athit didn’t want to wake her. So he drove aimlessly around for a bit, when she finally woke and gave him the direction to her condo. The night has fallen by the time he dropped her off but both were reluctant to leave one another. He even got into the passenger seat and Darunee teased him if he wanted her to drive him to the hotel lol. He didn’t want to say goodbye!

The next day, the pretty sun rises in Bangkok. Athit had completed his errands for grandma but as he reached into the passenger seat, he noticed Darunee’s wallet. He decided to return it to her. The only problem is, it was a rather large university, and he didn’t know where she was. It’s what happens when you don’t have a cell phone, Athit, because with one mere phone call or a text message you wouldn’t have to search for her and meanwhile running into Toon!

Toon had been practicing with a baton when she threw it too hard. She nearly fell when an arm caught her and the baton in time. For a moment she stared, breathlessly into a handsome face before he righted her and she was pulled away by one of the students. From then on, she has met her dream man, her knight in shining armor. Who wouldn’t fall head over heels for someone like that?

Athit finally found Darunee at one of the benches; he has been searching for her for nearly an hour. He asked her if she had trouble paying for things but she said that she hides her money in many places. As she walked him back to the car, he couldn’t stop smiling at her student uniform. He is so proud, just looking at her. Darunee said that she feels proud and accomplished wearing it! She promised to study hard so she could finish fast and see him at the end of the term.

After their quick goodbye, Toon came running in to see Darunee. She told her that she just met her dream man. Darunee is excited for her because she has never crushed on anyone before. Then Vey appeared wanting to know if the girls wanted to visit Japan at the end of their term. They both declined: Darunee said she needed to go back to the farm to help Athit.

The feeling of nostalgia overcame me as I watched the time passing by. Life on the farm is a happy one as everyone is dedicated to working hard. The bond and relationship between Athit and grandma strengthened. Grandma is getting older, easily tired. She’s even using a cane now. Athit is constantly educating himself with the ins and outs of agriculture.

Darunee is studying hard in Bangkok and doesn’t have a lot of time to pen a letter, but promised to go back at the end of the term.

A year has gone by and Darunee is visiting the farm for a week before she resumes her summer school. She is taking the accelerated path so she could finish soon. Aunt Kaew took note that Darunee, this time around, has matured even more. She’s more beautiful, well behaved and cuter. Aunt Kaew asked Athit (when he walked in) whether he agreed with her assessment. Athit said that he hasn’t even seen her face yet.

Darunee turned to look at him and he is spellbound. The only word that escaped his lips was “cute.”

Grandma told them that she had something to give to them. They were preparing to attempt the rice plantation again. Grandma hands over rice grains that she acquired from the King and told them the story of what that meant to her. For good blessings, they used it to mix in with the rest of the rice grain for the field.

Athit wanted to show Darunee a new place. They rode their bikes to an area filled with beautiful pink blossoms. Darunee asked him how he found the road, and Athit told her that he actually found the trees first- he noticed that they were beautiful and wanted the rest of the farm workers to enjoy it too, so he built a road through the blossom trees. Darunee was amazed at his endeavor and asked him how he got the workers to cooperate with so many of his projects. He told her that he would always give 100% in everything that he does, when the workers see this, they too are motivated. Darunee complimented him and calls him “professor” because he’s so wise, lol.

They returned to the same place the next day because Darunee wanted to photograph the blossoms and write up a quick report for her professor. As they sit atop a large tree trunk, Darunee asked Athit to take a picture with her. She wanted to frame it in her condo.

“If you don’t have the picture, you wouldn’t remember my face?” Athit asked.

“Sometimes.. pictures help bring back some memories,” she answered.

He turned to her, “if we use this,” he pointed to his head, “to remember, then we may forget. But if you use this,” he pointed to his heart, “to remember, then the image will stay with us forever. We will never forget.”

Darunee smiled at meaning of his words and she turned her head away so he wouldn’t see how much it affected her.

I’m sure she will always remember the moment forever..

The work at the farm is never ending. Athit and Darunee, along with the rest of the farm workers continued with their chores. She sees how much Athit has improved the farm and the relationship he has developed with everyone- including herself.

But Athit has to be reminded about his situation. Vilai and the brood came to interrupt their chore (just when Darunee was wiping the sweat off Athit’s face.) She spoke with Athit alone and warned him that he could not get too close to Darunee. What would people think? She asked him point blank how he felt about Darunee. Athit told her that he thinks of Darunee like a younger sister. Vilai scolded him that if he thought of Darunee like a sister, then he needed to stop acting too familiar with her. Even if he did like her, Vilai continued, he couldn’t because he already has a wife.

Oh that.

Vilai then implied that grandma hoped that Nee and Vey would be together. She didn’t outright tell him that, but she said he will soon see.

That night, grandma gave Athit the profit margins. He declined at first because he felt that he failed in planting the rice last year, but grandma insisted. When grandma heads to bed, Athit and Darunee were alone, drinking the milk. He downs it and tries to leave, but Darunee stops him. She pulls out a handkerchief and tells him that he has milk on the side of his lips. She slowly dabs the handkerchief around his lips as they stare into each other’s eyes. Then he takes the handkerchief from her and proceeds to clean her lips too.

They smiled shyly and he leaves.

Omg how cute!

She even touched her lips when he left!

That following morning, the three stooges were going to bathe at the waterfall when they heard some noises. Afraid that Thongprasri may need help, they immediately went to the cabin. Unbeknownedst to them, she was “doing it” with a man. They rushed to tell Athit immediately.

That was the day Darunee was scheduled to head back to Bangkok. Vey was sitting at the breakfast table waiting for them to finish breakfast.

Back at the cabin, Athit stormed into the room and found Thongprasri naked with a man. They were caught in the act! He asked her why she didn’t do it elsewhere? That was his home, his bed… He told her to get the hell out and that he didn’t want to see her face again. From here on out, they were done! He collected Tawan- who was sleeping on the floor next to them- how could they?! And Athit takes the baby boy away. Thongprasri was heard crying- and another problem for Athit ended itself.

Jingjaew was running back to the farmhouse to report the event. Everyone learned that Thongprasri was caught with another man and how their relationship (it that’s even one..) was over. Darunee was worried about Athit but she needed to go to Bangkok.

Athit wanted to see her off, so he raced with the bike towards the top of the hill where he could see cars come and go. Vey’s car veered around the corner and stopped. Darunee ran out of the car and waved at Athit. He waved back and shouted “good luck” from afar.

A few more months past and Athit penned a letter to Darunee, reporting of the progress and activities at the farm. They wrote back and forth slowly, indicating that even more time has passed by- Darunee reporting that she’s studying hard and that she can’t wait to see him at the end of the term. They tell each other to dress warmer as the weather is getting colder. Their fondness for each other grows even more with time.

A vision of green presented itself, the rice field finally came to fruition. Athit wrote that he wished Darunee could see it; words could not describe it.

Darunee was holding onto the little flower that Athit gave to her on her first year. Toon teased her that he was her “beloved brother” and she should meet him to see what he is all about.

The rice field is truly a treat for the eyes, it is so green, stretching widely. Grandma and Athit stood in the midst of it, beaming. Grandma thanked him for making her dreams come true. Not only is the rice field beautiful, it is also beneficial, providing food for the country. Grandma was in awe at Athit, now a days, the newer generation wants to work in the city, they forget the root of Thailand’s abundance: agriculture. Grandma looked so happy and pleased with Athit and she told him she doesn’t have anything to worry about anymore.

The next morning the birds chirped, the day arrives as normal. But grandma is immobile, lying on the bed, her body still. Aunt Kaew came into her room and noticed that grandma did not wake. Realizing this, her heart beats rapidly in her chest and she touched her finger to grandma’s nose.

Darunee’s golden Buddha pendant fell from her neck. Athit tripped and fell. All indication that something bad has happened.

Aunt Kaew came rushing to see Athit, shouting that something had happened to grandma. Athit, so afraid of what he might find, ran as fast as he could to the farmhouse, where he noticed grandma’s body on the bed. She was so still.

Falling to his knees, he inched forward and touched her toes. The truth of her death overcame him as he hugged her feet. Crying he asked her why she didn’t wait for him? He wanted to tell her that he loved her very much. He didn’t get a chance to repay her for her generosity. In between tears, he said he didn’t get to thank her.

Aunt Kaew is crying in the background and Athit told her to try contacting Darunee. He told her not to tell Darunee about grandma yet, just that grandma had an emergency and needed to see her.

Aunt Kaew tried her condo phone, her cell phone, however unable to reach her. She did leave a message that Darunee needed to come home asap and she will have someone pick her up at the airport. Athit proceeded with the funeral preparations.

When Darunee got back to her condo, she noticed a missed call. Worried that something happened at the farm, she booked the first flight back, thankfully she had just finished her last exams.

A dark cloud came over the farm as funeral preparations were underway. A large white casket sits in the middle of the farm, with mountains of flowers surrounding it. Grandma’s portrait sits to the right. The farm workers, one by one, cry their condolences.

Athit’s uncle thanked him for seeing to the preparations. He asked Aunt Kaew if grandma was sick, why was it so sudden? Aunt Kaew said that she was normal as can be, she didn’t get sick, she just was very tired and has worked so hard all her lfe. She died peacefully.

Vilai thought that they should have the funeral elsewhere, in the city so everyone can give grandma the respect she deserves. But her husband said that the farm was the best place, it was grandma’s beloved farm.

Vilai followed Athit as he walked way. She asked him if grandma had talked to him about the will. He said that it wasn’t his business. Vilai threw in her final jab, she said that grandma has left the most for the 3 grandkids, Nee, Vey and Vi, and asked him that he wasn’t hurt right? After all, grandma wanted Vey to marry Nee. Athit looked on with hurt- not from what she’s telling him- but from the loss of grandma and the incredulity that Vilai would bring this up. Athit told her that if grandma wants Nee to marry Vey, then he should be happy about it.

That evening Darunee finally arrived at the airport, Uncle Kreang picked her up. She asked him what was going on, but he told her that she will soon learn..

The scene was pitch black, only the light of the lantern showed its way for her. She walked slowly down the path and it gets brighter as she gets closer. The atmosphere was thick, the mood dark. Darunee saw faces, the farm workers, they were crying. Flowers are strewn everywhere. She noticed Vilai and family dressed in black, sitting on wooden chairs. She saw Athit standing, his face grim. She looked around and saw a large white casket, with flowers around it. And it hits her when she sees a portrait of grandma’s by the casket.

“Grandma!” she cried as she ran to the picture. Kneeling, wretched cries escaped her mouth as she shouted over and over, “my grandma.. my grandma” looking from the picture to the casket, and back to the picture. Overwhelmed with the loss, Darunee passed out. That has got to be the toughest way to find out that your beloved grandmother is dead.

Everyone shouted her name and Athit ran to her. He lifted her into his arms and about to walk when Vey swooped in immediately and took her off of his hands.

Athit watched Vey take Darunee away…

It was a very touching and tear-jerking episode. Both Athit and Darunee, expressing their loss, was emotional. This episode also served many purposes, one, closing out Thongprasri as Athit’s “wife” which will free up his ability to think about “love” again. Secondly, grandma’s death. This will serve to bring two people who were very close to her, together. Grandma was their rock, now that she is gone, how will the dynamic of their relationship change?

All I can say for now is that I’ve truly “felt” this episode. Whether that is nostalgia with the way that time has passed, revelations with the way that Athit is officially done with Thongprasri, or sadness with the mourning of grandma’s death. Everything was done so tastefully. I think I’m going to let this episode sink in before I watch the next one, as we will be unveiling the contents of the will and I need a clear head for that. In the meantime, let’s talk about this episode. Kleenex anyone?

What’s up 2012? -Poll for Next Lakorn Project

lovefia

Posted on July 18, 2012

I haven’t written a What’s Up article in a while, which usually showcases up and coming lakorns that I may partake in, because lately I seem to have an idea what my next project will be. Now that Torranee is progressing smoothly and well on its half way mark, I must start considering a new project, as much as that pains me.

Mam Gam Dang- A Review

lovefia

Posted on July 17, 2012

Mam Gam Dang (Red-cheeked Madam) is a destination lakorn set in London where Anamika studies abroad with her three best friends, Metawee, Art and Napat. The drama introduces us to a Thai student’s life abroad, and how they remain in their familiar community: Ana works in a Thai restaurant and hangs out with her Thai friends- she even has Thai nemesis as well- creating a clear difference in social class even in a foreign country, yet indicating one’s need to connect with people of similar heritage. Since Ana and Mey are from the working class, they must work for a living while their wealthier counterparts peruse London’s expensive boutiques.

One fine day, at the end of their term in London, Pat discovers that he is arranged to be married to Praewa back in Thailand. After conferring with his three best friends, they all contrived a way to get him out of the bind. Lying was not their forte so at the spur of the moment, it was decided that the fearless of the lot, Ana, would pretend to be Pat’s pregnant wife. Unfortunately, the biggest person they needed to convince was Pat’s older brother, Nadol, who is cynical and authoritative. Ana signed on to play this charade not realizing how involved and how much lying this would entail. She primarily did it because Mey is in love with Napat and she wanted to help them fall in love, and she would be paid to be her best friend’s wife. In Ana’s eyes, it was a win-win, even if it was shameless.

“A New Chapter”– Ep 9 Recap of This Land is Our Land

lovefia

Posted on July 15, 2012

The shift in atmosphere from the previous episode has lead us to this fork in the road, where we will leave behind the young Darunee and immersed with the mature, more grown up woman. Athit has also developed in his endeavor, becoming an adept farmer in his own right. One problem is slowly getting fixed while a new conflict is slowly getting introduced. The road to full fledge love is slowly simmering like a chef cooking a pot of stew that we know will be delicious. I am very pleased with the way this lakorn is progressing, but almost apprehensive with a new obstacle that our two leading characters will have to overcome. ‘Tis the working of the universe, I suppose.

***

Darunee stood before grandma and Aunt Kaew while drying her hair after her recent adventure and run in with the farmer’s wife’s childbirth. Excited and animated, Darunee recounted what had happened. Aunt Kaew asked her what her role was and she replied “cheering.” She told them that when she first saw the blood, she wanted to faint but Athit had cut the umbilical cord and handed the baby to her, and the rest, as they say, was history. She never thought she would be able to help anyone with something like this. Grandma and Aunt Kaew beamed at her change in reaction to Athit.

On the other side of the farm, Athit paced the confines of the worker’s cabin. He recalled Darunee requesting a gift for her achievement and what he had told her. Shaking his head, he scolded himself for doing that. I think he liked the idea of holding her too much! Kicking the dirt softly, Athit paced with a smile. The three stooges peered at him from the doorway and whispered to each other why the boss couldn’t sleep. They surmised that something must have happened at the strawberry farm. Something did my friends.

That morning, Uncle Kreang announced that everyone would be working for half a day today because grandma is throwing a party to celebrate Darunee’s last day at the farm before attending school in Bangkok. The farm workers joked that Toon shouldn’t bring his “show” to the party and that made Darunee wonder if it was a horror show. Not privy to the inside joke, everyone laughed. Toon told them that they needed to watch what they say or there will be an entrance fee. Lol. The attention turned to Athit when the workers asked if he had anything (even small and menial) for Darunee? Darunee looked uncomfortably away and said she’d rather not. Stumbling over her words and getting flustered because she recalled what the gift would be. Everyone wondered why she was flushing but they too were not privy to the inside joke.

At the cabbage garden, the farm workers continued to chastise Athit about getting a gift for Darunee. Athit felt that he didn’t have anything to give her since she already has everything. Tod advised that it didn’t need to be anything of monetary value, just that it came from the heart. So that got Athit thinking and with a basket of freshly trimmed cabbage, he made his way to the farmhouse. The workers watched him leave and Tod mentioned that he would take care of this “gift” on behalf of Athit.

Meanwhile Toon’s wife (the pot stirrer- figuratively speaking) encouraged Thongprasri to attend the party too. Thongprasri hesitated at first because she thinks that she would steal the thunder from Darunee, with her acclaimed beauty and all but eventually agrees.

Athit approached the farmhouse with a pretty basket of vegetables and on the steps leading to the house, he rehearsed what he would say. He figured that Darunee loves eating vegetables and would appreciate this presentation. However, he noticed that Vilai and her brood were visiting grandma and Darunee. He overheard that Vey had his mom searched high and low for the perfect gift for Darunee. It came in a small box, most likely expensive and pretty. Aunt Kaew walked in and noticed that Athit was standing at the steps. He told her that he brought this vegetable basket for grandma but didn’t want to intrude on the visiting time with Aunt Vilai. He handed the basket to Aunt Kaew and took off.

Vey donned the necklace for Darunee as Aunt Kaew walked in with the basket. Darunee beamed and complimented on how pretty and edible looking it was. Aunt Kaew told her that Athit had brought it for her but didn’t want to intrude. (Aunt Kaew knows everything!) Darunee peered at the door, searching for Athit and her face dropped when she didn’t see him there.

The party commenced! Skewers, party lights and a beautiful setting outdoors invites us to Darunee’s celebration. Vey is busy serving her as Athit and his farm workers meander in. Viyada immediately sees him and rushed over to give him a jacket she bought from Europe. Athit said that he couldn’t accept such an expensive gift but Vi waved it away with “don’t worry it was on sale!” She instructed him to wear it throughout the event to appease her.

The three stooges thought Athit looked very cool with the jacket and told him to head over to Darunee’s table and strike a conversation. Athit didn’t want to intrude since she was with her boyfriend. Ah, Athit likes to label things so she could remain off limits in his eyes. The three guys thought it was ridiculous and decided to put matter into their own hands.

Tod approached the table and announced that on behalf of the rest of the farm workers, he had a message to give Darunee. He wished her all the best with her studies and may she remain blessed. Darunee promised to do her best in school so that she may return to the farm to help out. Tod also had a song to present to her. Putting Athit on the spot, they handed the instrument to him and had him open the show. Athit played the instrument and Viyada gushed at how awesome he was.

Halfway into the song, the farm workers encouraged everyone to dance but since Darunee was the host, she needed to open the dance floor. “Hai Rak Mun Toh Nai Jai” came on as Athit and Darunee danced to the music.

Funny scenes ensued. Vi cuts in the dance and Vey started dancing with Nee. This was also when Thongprasri entered the scene and she busted out her moves and competed with Vi and Darunee in the dance. They were pushing each other so much that Thongprasri got sick and projectile vomited on Vi and Vey. Disgusted, they screamed in unison. Athit grabbed Thongprasri’s arm and told her that she needed to go back where she came from, now. Party’s over! Toon and wife escorted Thongprasri out of the farm. Thongprasri’s already showing signs that she’s pregnant!

Back at the farmhouse, Athit apologized to grandma for ruining the party. Grandma said it wasn’t his fault but Athit still felt responsible because Thongprasri was his wife. Changing the subject, grandma takes out an envelope and hands it over to him. It was his first monthly salary. She won’t be paying him for the overtime but she will give him the money they would make from selling the vegetables. Surprised, Athit gave his grandma respect and beamed. He would never imagine that he would receive a monthly salary. Grandma asked him what he intended to do with it and Athit told her that he will send all of the money to his family. He is able to sleep and eat comfortably while his family suffered. They needed the money more than he did. Grandma was happy to hear that and Darunee smiled at his thoughtfulness.

Finally, grandma broke the news that Darunee will be making her trip to Bangkok tomorrow and she wanted to know if Athit could drive her there.

As Darunee walked Athit out of the house, she told him that she was in a hurry to go to Bangkok so she could familiarize herself with the city. Also, she didn’t want to bring a car because she wasn’t a very good driver (lol, I think Athit could attest to that.) Nee then told him that if he didn’t want to drive her, she would ask Uncle Kreang. But Athit was adamant that he’d like to go, besides, he could also visit one of the customers there. Nee nonchalantly asked him if it wasn’t work related, did he intend to go? Shaking his head, Athit told her that it wasn’t a waste of time. What is a waste of time though, is sitting and thinking about how he could show her his congratulations. Nee looked at him shyly and told him that she would give him one more night to think about it and since the stretch to Bangkok is a long one, they had plenty of time to chat. Athit wished her sweet dreams when he left and as the door shut, they stood on opposite ends of the door happy with the interchange.

That night Darunee packed her clothes as well as the flattened little flower that she kept from him. Athit paced in front of the cabin again, contemplating on what he would say to her. The three stooges observed that he is very happy and couldn’t stop smiling.

The next morning, a sad cloud encompassed the farmhouse. Everyone was there to say goodbye to Darunee, as she ventured to live in Bangkok. Grandma gave her a Buddha pendant for good luck and Darunee tears up. She really didn’t want to leave her grandma but it was time to say farewell. Grandma told her that it was only a brief goodbye before they say hello again.

The farm workers were all crying as they each say their goodbyes. It was a sweet scene. Unfortunately a car appears, which belonged to Vey, who was here to take Darunee to the city. It turns out that Darunee would go with Vey instead and as she walked towards the car, she looked back at Athit, sorry that they weren’t able to have their conversation. And Athit stayed up thinking about it all night.

But they were meant to be. While at the small town, Athit went to the bank to send money to his parents and Darunee had to make a pitstop because Vi needed to pick up some clothing. As Athit walked out of the bank, and Darunee needed to go back to the car because she forgot her wallet, they ran into each other. She smiled and told him that if it weren’t for their forgetfulness, they wouldn’t have run into each other. I’m going to leave that to fate! Their smiles and natural conversation was so refreshing to see.

Athit found the gumption to finally tell her what he thought about all night. He told her congratulations and that she was talented- that grandma is very proud of her. Nee beamed at him but before she could respond, Vey appeared and ushered her back to the car- of course without making a few snide comments that he hoped he wouldn’t run into Athit at BKK.

But they weren’t ready to say goodbye yet. As Vey’s car pulled to a stoplight, Darunee noticed Athit walking on the street. She rolled down her window and hollered at him, “Thanks for accepting that I have not lost to you!”

He ran briefly after the car and waved at her. “Good luck!” he shouted. And finally, their closure before her adventure and growing up begins in BKK.

Settled at the university, Darunee penned a letter to grandma. She reported of her time there, the welcoming event for freshmen and that they randomly get a new buddy that they must care for during their term at the school. That buddy is Toonyanee (or Toon)- our new addition to the lakorn- she is feisty, considered beautiful by many men who pursue her but she was also a great friend. They clicked immediately and were BFF’s since then.

She asked about the farm and that she missed everyone there. She also mentioned Athit’s name but told grandma not to tell him that. Unfortunately, Athit was the one who read the letter out loud to grandma.

“Whoops, too late,” grandma teased.

Once the letter was finished, Athit told grandma that he was ready to plant the rice field. He would start with a small plot of land and cheaper grain as so to test it out. We continue to see that Athit is a hard worker and is pursuing his dreams. The most important part, even he doesn’t realize this, but he is also making grandma’s dream come true too. She never envisioned that she could pass the land on to any of her remaining blood.

The vegetable farm spread before our eyes, it is amazing indeed that it came from such a tiny seed. I appreciate that this lakorn also harps on the value of the land and that with hard work; one can see the fruits of one’s labor. The growth of the farmlands also marked the time that has passed.

In Bangkok, Vey runs into Toon and overtly flirted with her. She didn’t like him on the spot because he used his expensive car and pompous attitude to flirt with her. She told him that she was hi-so too and bought everything on her own without depending on her parents’ money.

The cold weather was seeping through the farm as grandma reports the going on’s of the farm to Darunee. Athit was the writer. She mentioned that with Athit’s care and hard work, the farm is doing well. They were also starting the rice plantation and as a closure, grandma promised not to tell Athit that Darunee asked about him.

Sitting at the picnic table across from her school, Darunee smiled widely as she reads the letter. She surmised that it wasn’t grandma’s handwriting so it would have to be Aunt Kaew. She wondered why Athit doesn’t get tired of all of his farming endeavors. Toon came to get her for lunch but as the two prepared to head out, Vey showed up. They all went out for lunch and we can see again that Toon does not like Vey and is really feisty with him. He asked them what they planned on doing afterward and since it was the end of the term, they would visit home.

Nee is back for a visit! She planned on staying until her term starts again. Surprising everyone at the farm, Darunee made her way into the farmhouse. Grandma and Aunt Kaew were pleasantly surprised and they all greet her with a hug. Aunt Kaew mentioned that it has only been a year and Darunee has grown up so much. Her hair style, look and wardrobe has changed. This was the new Darunee, and I like it.

So does everybody else. She decides to surprise Athit as well and went to find him at the now very large vegetable farm. It was so rewarding to see how much it has grown.

One by the one the workers saw her and were all shocked. At the same time they hollered her name. Athit glanced at the workers then noticed Darunee, standing there, like a vision before all of them. She was so different. The workers left so they could leave Athit and Darunee alone.

Meeting in the middle, Darunee said that she was amazed at how much the farm as grown. Standing before each other, as if the distance did make the heart grow fonder, Darunee said, “it’s beautiful here. Not because someone could have sat and played here, but it its now a benefit to everyone. Right, P’Athit?”

Her usage of “p” meaning older brother surprised Athit. He looked at her and stuttered. Darunee continued, “I’d like to call you P’Athit since I left for Bangkok but I didn’t dare and wasn’t sure if you would still be here today.”

“I’ve always been here.”

“I know, you have never abandoned the farm. I can see with my eyes how much you have changed this place, made this place better. Someone who has worked so hard and does so well deserved to be referred to as older brother (P) with no hesitation and with all of my heart,” Darunee looked at him. “Will you allow me to call you P’Athit?”

Athit could not believe his ears. “Yes, Khun Nee.”

“Nong Nee,” she corrected him. “Let’s work together and take care of this farm, P’Athit. Promise?”

She extended her pinky finger to him and they hook their pinkies. It was a poignant moment as they look into each others’ eyes amidst the vast land of vegetables. Athit looked so touched by the moment. It was a long time coming.

Darunee is so grown up and mature now. It was beautiful to see her grow up before our eyes, very believable within the span of time.

They walked through the orange farm and Darunee asked him if she could help with the rice field since she heard that he was ready to plant them now. As the talked, both referred to each other as P’Athit and Nong Nee, which caused the farm workers to squeal with delight.

This episode has really put me in a good mood!

That evening, the workers teased Athit at the cabin. Not able to stand it, Athit leaves. Uncle Kreang surmised that he doesn’t dare court or flirt with Darunee.

Darunee was in the kitchen helping Aunt Kaew with the meal when Jingjaew walked in with a baby. Darunee learned that it was Thongprasri’s kid- Tawan- and Aunt Kaew filled her in on what had happened. Everyone came to find out that Thongprasri was pregnant but not with Athit because it was a full term baby and way before Athit ever could have done any monkey business with Thongprasri.

I like how they didn’t drag the Thongprasri drama, it is a mere part of life that realistically can happen and everyone is forced to move on. Obviously Thongprasri tried to make sweet with Athit by following him around, but he gave her no mind. She is back to the original situation she had feared.

Darunee asked if Athit accepted the child.

“Yes,” Athit said as he entered the kitchen. That word made Darunee feel warm all over because she too was adopted. It touched her heart that he would take responsibility over the child.

Athit did mention that it wasn’t on legal paper or anything. Grandma chose to adopt and raise Tawan as another grandchild. For the first time in this lakorn, Darunee spoke of her situation. She went to her grandma with a smile on her face, “just like the way you had raised me right?” Grandma reassured her that Darunee was her sister, but Darunee knew better. This news brought more respect and love for Athit and grandma. When grandma heard them referring to each other has “p” and “nong” she became very happy. Especially because she didn’t have to force Darunee to say that. Her granddaughter is growing up in her eyes.

The Vilai and brood visited grandma once again and grandma invited them to the rice plantation. It was a funny scene to watch them get their nails dirty and fall in the water.

And a pending closure for Thongprasri.. she is the talk of the town and very ashamed at what had happened. Even her own family scolds her every day. However, all is not lost for her. The cop had been in love with her from day one and asked for her hand. He told her that he still loved her and will take care of her and Tawan. She was concerned how true he was because she was afraid he would end up hurting her. At the end of the day, he consoled her, and seemed very genuine as he held her and she cries.

That night Darunee and Athit were watching Tawan, waiting for his mom to get him. Athit told Darunee that he loved Tawan like another brother because he was very close in age as his younger siblings. Athit looked great carrying the baby.

Darunee said it was still a good thing that Thongprasri takes the baby to sleep with her every night. When Thongprasri finally appeared, Darunee told her that next time she should come earlier just so she could spend more time with the baby. At this young age, they grow up fast. Thongprasri, apologized and told them that she will do that next time.

Athit thanked her for telling Thongprasri to pay more attention to Tawan. Darunee couldn’t help but added that she wasn’t a kid anymore. Athit chuckled and told her that he knows and he believes her.

Just after a week, the rice is already growing. As Darunee, Athit, grandma and Aunt Kaew walked along the road, Darunee asked Aunt Kaew if she were the one to write the letters since the handwriting didn’t belong to grandma.

Aunt Kaew told Athit to write smaller next time. Darunee finally realized that Athit was the one to write it all along. Embarrassed she spun around. “You’ve written every letter?” she asked him. Aunt Kaew answered on his behalf, “and read every letter too.” Lol.

In the final scene of this episode, Darunee called for Athit, the storm is coming. Athit muttered “the rice” before he rushed over to Darunee. They made their way to the truck. As they drove towards the rice field, they met Uncle Kreang and the three farm workers halfway.

A storm wreaks havoc on farmlands, especially rice fields. By the time they reached it, it had already started to flood. Athit did not want to back away; he wanted to rescue the rice stalks they had recently planted. The rain slashed their faces and Darunee cajoled him to return to the farmhouse. She told him that grandma would be upset if she knew he would risk his life for rice. When he wouldn’t budge, Darunee grabbed his arms and encouraged him back to the car.

Soaked to the bone, they walked into the farmhouse, head casted down. Grandma rushed to them with relief. He apologized for his failure but grandma was not having any of that. She valued their lives much more than the rice field. It is what farmers battle every day: mother nature. And it is out of their control.

Solemly, the episode ends as grandma held the two in her arms.

Something is going to happen.. but we’ll have to wait until next week. Although the episode ended with a downcast feel, the whole episode still offered warmth and development of our leading characters, especially how the feelings are being developed even stronger as each day goes by.

Preview for next week’s episode:

Athit is furiously plucking the rice stalks from the flooded rice field. Darunee is yelling at him to stop, it’s no use, it has drowned. “There’s still hope,” Athit responded, “I’m going to revive them.”

Then on the root of a large tree, Athit told Darunee that if we use this (he points to his head) to remember, we may forget, but if we use this (he points to his heart) it will stay with us forever.

In the next scene, Athit is writing a letter to Darunee reporting that the rice grains has grown so much; the word pretty does not aptly describe it, only beautiful does it justice. He wished that Darunee could see them and await until she finishes school so she could witness its beauty. (He should try instagram..)

The next scene Darunee dropped the golden Buddha pendant that grandma had given her (this is a bad omen.) Back at the farm, Nah Kaew rushed to see Athit, yelling “it’s grandma! Grandma!” Indicating that something must have happened.

Based on the end of episode 9, the tone of the lakorn is turning angsty! Not to mention the introduction of Toon, Nee’s BFF, who may give her a run for her money when it comes to the handsome Athit!

A Shifting Atmosphere- Ep 8 Recap of This Land is Our Land

lovefia

Posted on July 14, 2012

Darunee walked broodingly out of the classroom, she just finished day one of her entrance examinations. Unsure of how the professor would grade her work, she could not be overly confident. As she proceeded towards the parking lot, P’Vey appeared and handed her a bouquet of flowers. He harped that just by looking at her aura, he knew she would pass. Darunee relented that she still has one more day of testing and she needed to go back and study.

At the farmhouse, Athit reviewed the financial records with grandma. She praised him for being so detail oriented. As he prepared to leave, Darunee and Vey waltzed in; Athit noticed the beautiful bouquet of flowers in her hands. Vey added that Darunee loves them! Darunee sniffed the bouquet and allowed that it smelled very nice. Athit looked solemnly away, and excused himself to go back to work. When he left, Darunee became curious as to which plot of land he has decided to create his additional farm. Aunt Kaew told her it was the area she used to run around as a child. Darunee’s face dropped when she heard this.

As Athit made his way back to the farm, he squatted down and peered at the flowers he had picked for her. Breaking off a piece, he pondered out loud at the value of the flowers. It is small, does not smell nice, how will it make anyone happy? Vey drove by and confirmed its disgrace, telling Athit that it will only attract dogs. Ouch. Athit squished the flowers between his fingers, reiterating what he thinks of his own value. Let’s just hope that Darunee is similar to a very cute puppy. Think of the puppies, Athit.

Things only went down hill for Athit. As he was mining the land for his next endeavor, Darunee came stomping towards him. Wondering what he did wrong this time, Athit looked up at her.

“You promised me that you wouldn’t take my things!” Darunee yelled, reverting back to her former, childish self again.

“What did I take from you, Khun Nee?” Athit asked, confused. Darunee said that the plot of land is her playground, how could he wish to plant his vegetables there? Athit told her that the vegetables belonged to everyone, not just him. But to Darunee, that was beside the point. She told him that he needed to find a different land to plant the vegetables, not on the soil that she loved. “I’ve already told you,” she scolded, “This place is MY place!”

Um wow. Tantrum. Like that of a child, angry that someone is taking her toy away from her. Someone needs a little spanking!

Thankfully grandma was there to the rescue. She asked Darunee what she planned for the land. Darunee merely told her that it holds a special place in her heart; it represents a spot where she waited for grandma as a child. She would stand there and she could see her grandma come and go from the farm. It was a remembrance, a comforting spot.

Grandma then asked her if she was going to save this spot for her kids so they can just use it to wait and watch for a particular someone to come home? Grandma brought up an important example to teach Darunee, right there in front of everyone.

“What if I never came back? One day I will die, we all die. It all lies in whether you want me to disappear completely from this world or leave something behind so that you can be reminded of me?” Grandma continued adding value to what Athit is doing. She held Darunee’s hands, “I’ve raised you and taught you everything, even being self sufficient because I want you to grow up and stand on your own feet. But if you want to be a baby then I must reconsider myself and if I have raised you right.” Omg grandma, go in for the kill! Make her guilty. What a big baby, this ought to teach her to GROW UP!

Darunee’s face fell, she regretted her outburst. She apologize to grandma immediately. Athit told them that to appease both sides, he can find a different place, in which Darunee halted him and gave him the permission to do whatever he wanted there. She won’t say anything anymore.

“Mae Nee, I’d like for you to understand this,” grandma said, “with your heart and reasoning. It’s not going to do any good if you are doing something for someone without understanding the reasons.”

“I do understand. I was wrong to think like a child,” she confessed.

“Your time is up- to think and act like a child. You must think and act like an adult now,” grandma advised. Oh indeed, please do act like an adult now.

Athit smiled as Darunee hugged grandma again, pouting.

Another bad news for Athit. Thongprasri and her parents have brought her things to move into his house! Grandma asked him if he wanted to go and see, but Athit opted to work instead. Avoiding Thongprasri at all cost.

The farm workers teased him about Thongprasri, which annoyed him further. Athit dropped his tools and walked out, leaving the farm workers to tend to their own transportation back to their homes. Good, they deserved it! They knew how this upsets him, why would they tease him? It’s not like he’s going into this “marriage” willingly!

At the farmhouse, Darunee, grandma and Aunt Kaew contemplated about Athit’s situation. Aunt Kaew felt sorry for him for being stuck with a bad person. Darunee lamented that if he was a good person, then he should turn his wife into a good person too. What a naive thing to say. She continued to hope that Athit and his wife will be on good terms with one another for her own conscience but she failed to see how unhappy Athit is. And all the while, lying to herself that she’s happy with Athit’s marriage. I am as confused with her, as she is confused with herself!

Thongprasri has settled into Athit’s home by the waterfall. She’s preparing herself for her husband and has decided to wait for him. Little did she know that Athit is avoiding her and is having lunch with his grandma instead. She will be waiting in vain..

After lunch, they congregate in the smaller dining area. Athit walked in for lunch and asked if he could join them. Darunee kept insinuating that he needed to spend time with his wife and things like that. Athit told her that she must be happy now that she doesn’t have to go get him for a meal all the time. Darunee envisioned Thongprasri in a cowboy outfit with a gun, and is using it to threaten Athit to go with her. This caused her to laugh out loud. Everyone looked at her strangely, wondering why she bursted out laughing. It’s sort of an odd moment because I didn’t find her vision funny at all..

The side characters, like the farm workers, are used to fill in the time and to help the viewers commentate on the progress of the lakorn. Toon appeared and wanted to bet with the three farm workers regarding Athit. That night, Athit ordered Tod to go back to his house and collect all of his things. He’s moving in with Uncle Kreang and the gang and leaving Thongprasri alone in the house. If she wanted to live there, fine, he would just sleep somewhere else.

It was a funny scene watching Tod attempt to remove his boss’ things from the house. He lied to Thongprasri that he was removing his things so he could leave her and the boss to their merry ways.

Aunt Kaew wondered how he was faring that night with Thongprasri. Darunee took out the little flower that Athit gave her, it was lying flat in between the pages of her book. She peered longingly at it. The sound of the instrument that Athit plays at night makes its way to the big farmhouse. It was a poignant, sad song but Darunee assumed that everything must go just find. Aunt Kaew said that it must not because he’s playing such a sorrowful song.

The next morning everyone discovered that Athit did not spend the night at home. Thongprasri came storming to grandma’s house, accusing grandma that she’s hiding Athit from her. She’s as rude as her parents! Grandma reprimanded her that she can’t control people or tell people what they can or cannot do. Aunt Kaew gave Thongrasri a piece of her mind: she should know who grandma is and she needed to stop her rude, impolite behavior. You go Aunt Kaew!

That morning was Darunee’s final exam day. Vey had came to pick her up again and they proceeded towards the car.

Back at the spot where Darunee used to wait for her special grandma, Athit is standing there, waiting to see Darunee’s car pass by. The trysting spot has now become a special place for Athit too! It was very cute how distracted he looked, looking longingly at the road, hoping to catch a glimpse of her.

At the orange farm, Aunt Kaew thought to do some preventative measures. She pulled Uncle Kreang aside and told him (and the three workers) to keep a close eye on Thongprasri. She feared that Thongrasri might put something bad in Athit’s food and drink to try to lure him. Grandma caught Aunt Kaew and sighed. She said that it’s not fixing the problem directly. Aunt Kaew asked what they needed to do that is “directly” stopping this. But grandma merely said that it lies in Athit’s heart, and how long he can sustain this.

Athit was finally able to see Darunee in Vey’s car, from the top of the mountain, he could see it veer around the curve and bend, as it made it’s way back to the farm. That satisfied him for now. The workers asked him if he ever thought about buying a nice car too, so he could drive a Barbie around. Athit felt that a car’s purpose is to drive one from point A to point B safely, not to show off. So no, he is not inclined to buy a nice car. The farm workers then asked what kind of a woman Athit felt was “narak” (cute), and Athit mentioned that as long as she knows how to work, stands by him and understands his job, then she’s cute in his eyes. They teased him that it is like he’s referring to Darunee! Uncomfortable, Athit walked away, telling them that he’s going to water the vegetable garden.

Tod smacked Aeung (the chubby one) behind the head and chastised him for saying stupid things. Tod said that their boss is currently stressed out about Thongprasri, why would he (Aeung) bring up Darunee when he knows that they can never be?! Lol. Love these three guys.

Athit is developing a stronger feeling for Darunee. We can see his facial expressions getting taut and annoyed when he sees Vey and Darunee together. At the vegetable garden, Darunee appeared with Vey (after her final exam) and wanted to help water the plants, since grandma was there as well. Vey followed Darunee every step of the way, which irked Athit. Grandma looked on with a knowing smile.

We already know that Vey could not stand the farm or getting his shoes and fingers dirty. He’s not even a strong contender for Athit- but Athit is kind of stuck in his own head.

As the four walked back, Thongprasri finally found Athit and latched on to his arm.

Thankfully the three farm workers appeared later and intercepted her in time. They said they needed a hand at the cow manure lol, so that scared Thongprasri away. After unsuccessfully trying to get Athit to eat with her, she made her way to the kitchen and demanded that Aunt Kaew and Jingjaew serve her. Rude as always. Jingjaew thought of the ghost story regarding the cabin and decided to instill a fear in Thongprasri. But Thongprasri didn’t believe it at all.

Well, it looks like they may have to show her. So Jingjaew and Tod dressed up as the ghosts and scared the wits out of Thongprasri. But in turn, Jingjaew and Tod were scared by the two other farm workers who felt it wasn’t fair that they weren’t included in the prank.

All in all, I hope I don’t have to see many more of Thongprasri in the rest of this episode, as she ran back to her folks’ home, for the time being anyway. Aunt Kaew hoped and hypothesized that she would get bored of Athit and look for someone else. One can only hope!

Grandma reprimanded both Jingjaew and Tod for scaring Thongprasri- what if she got a heart attack? The whole group was at the orange farm and teasing and laughing follows when Jingjaew and Tod learned that the ghosts that terrified them were the other two farm workers!

By part 7 of episode 8, the frustration and endurance for Darunee’s childishness and Athit’s unfortunate state of affairs, came to a halt. We are finally given a reward for our good behavior. The rest of the episode is just so darn sweet. Why do they do that? It’s like getting slapped and now cajoled. Prepare yourself for more sweet scenes!

Grandma walked towards the box, but Darunee thought that grandma was still standing at the same place so she turned to her and put her head on “grandma’s” shoulders. She held on to “her” arm and rubs her face against it. However, she soon realized that the arm is a little too strong for an old lady and so Darunee looked up and much to her surprise, she had been touching Athit’s arm all along!

Both immediately jumped as if electrocuted and Darunee looked away embarrassingly. Athit turned away shyly too, maybe enjoying her mistake too much. Grandma, Aunt Kaew and Uncle Kreang witnessed the whole scene and broke out in big smiles.

The next scene Athit and Darunee grabbed the same orange and they shyly look away. Athit told her to go ahead and pick it while Darunee said he could do it. In the end, grandma intercepted and picked it herself.

The next morning, the brood was at the new plot of land and prepared to plant the first root for the new vegetable garden. They helped each other plant it- it was so nice to see Darunee being helpful and not spiteful! You can tell Athit is falling even more for her because she’s the epitome of his ideal girl.

At the higher elevation farm, they were watering the plants. Darunee decided to spray water on him, tease him like she used to. Athit didn’t back down this time and sprayed her back. They started going back and forth until grandma, who noticed this, wanted to tease them too. She sprayed both of them with water and asked them if they felt cool now. When they finally relented, grandma said that she thought they were hot so she sprayed water on them to help them cool down. Lol, even grandma is mischievous!

More scenes to show Athit that Darunee could very well be his dream girl. She is very detail oriented with the products (corn), very careful with the cabbage and teaches the farm workers how to handle them appropriately, and she knew the intricacies of the farm well.

That night, as Athit handed over the registry and financial records, he asked grandma permission for his next endeavor. He wanted to plant rice, farm a rice field. Darunee looked on surprisingly, even I am surprised. Aren’t we stretching ourselves a bit thin here? But Darunee thought of another accusation, she thought he was being greedy. Grandma came to his rescue and said that if he had the energy in him then she would allow it. She then turned to Darunee and gave her a lesson in what the King has advised them regarding earning a living. You have to think about the future too, not surviving day to day. I’m sure they cannot help but inject some wisdom here!

Athit said that it was his dream to one day be a rice farmer. He’s not even thinking about selling it- but just farming and producing enough so he could feed his family. Grandma agreed with him, as much as they eat bread and noodles, rice is a commodity that is very Thai. They always eat rice, so it would be nice to have it on hand and not have to buy it.

Athit wins again. Darunee sulked and sat next to grandma. She asked grandma that once she graduated, would she give Darunee permission to follow her dreams? Of course! Grandma wanted to know what Darunee envisioned. Darunee recites what she wanted and then gave her grandma a big hug. As much as it is cute watching Yaya being all cutesy, but sometimes it’s a little much.

Finally, the moment of truth. The following morning, everyone waited to hear Darunee’s test results at the orange farm, did she pass? Darunee appeared, sad and with her head down. Grandma immediately said that it was ok she didn’t make it. At least now she can stay closer to home. Darunee apologized to her grandma that she may not be able to live at home anymore, she would have to study far away. Everyone cheered, she passed!

A lesson to everyone, passing an entrance exam is a huge deal in Thailand! The education system is so much more difficult there then it is here.

Grandma assigned her to head to the strawberry farm so she could hand out money to the workers and to also share this good news with Athit.

On her way there, she kept rehearsing on how she would tell him. It must be in a way that won’t embarrass her or show that she cared too much about what he thought. Which is totally the opposite, she wants to look good and smart in his eyes.

As she made it to the strawberry farm, she recited what she would say: Grandma ordered me to tell you this. Since we should share good news with people in the same community, I thought I would let you know..

Then she decided against it. As she rehearsed, she didn’t realize that Athit stood behind her and was listening to some of what she was saying. Before she could tell him however, one of the farm workers learned that his wife is in labor. He immediately asked for Athit’s help- and since Darunee brought the truck- they were on their way to the farmer’s house.

A moment that truly brought them together and perhaps changed everything.

Darunee witnessed another aspect of Athit- heroic. He not only is a capable and farmer extraordinaire, he well, has some midwifery skills too!

She looked on with awe as she watched Athit take control, ordered people about to prepare for the birth and singlehandedly aided the mom to breathe and push the baby out.

Darunee left the sideline to be involved with the birth and for the first time, saw the miracle of life. Athit handed the baby over to her and Darunee, amazed, looked at the baby then back at Athit. It was a sweet moment as the song “the heavens want us to love each other” plays in the background. It was a bonding moment between the two, and changes how Darunee feels about Athit. She respects him now and one can feel the mood shifting.

Since their clothes were soiled from the childbirth, Darunee and Athit changed into the farmers’ and wife’s clothes. They looked darling in them! The whole gang prepared to take the child to the hospital. Darunee and Athit ended up sitting in the bed of the truck instead, so baby and mom can be comfortable. Athit thought that she might not want to endure the drive, but Darunee said that she could sit wherever he sits. Awe. And Athit helped her onto the truck.

On the drive back, they have another sweet moment. Darunee and Athit exchanged glances at each other with a smile. Then at the same time they talked, he wanted to know what she wanted to tell him and she wanted to tell him something.

Finally Darunee asked him how he learned those midwife skills and why he wasn’t afraid? She thought it looked like it wasn’t his first time.

Athit opened up about his family. He told her that he helped his mother give birth. His father was out of town and they wouldn’t make it to the hospital so he learned. After the first one, then the following two kids. Originally he was afraid but he got a lot of practice and was no longer afraid.

He changed the subject and asked about her. She started to repeat what she recited earlier, but before she could finish, the heavens opened up and poured. Fleets of tropical rain poured on them and Athit grabbed banana tree leaves to shield them. Lol, they can never get away from bananas! Bittersweet! They look shyly at each other. I can’t stop smiling.

They finally made it back home, still dripping wet. Athit reminded her to shower with warm water and to make sure she dries her hair well in case she catches a cold. Darunee said she was tough stuff and doesn’t get sick easily.

As she climbs the steps, she turns around.

“Hey, thank you for helping with the labor, especially, allowing me to help.”

“Helping others is fulfilling,” Athit replied.

“It was the most fulfilling present that I could ever get in life,” Darunee said, “aside from making grandma happy.”

“Grandma is very happy with you,” Athit consoled.

“I made her especially happy today,” Darunee started, “I’ve passed the entrance examination.”

Athit looked on with happiness on her behalf. “Congratulations!”

“This is what I wanted to tell you..” She sticks her hand out, palm open, “My gift?”

“Gift? “

She nods her head, “Yes! If your younger sibling passed their schooling, what would you reward him or her with? I want the same thing.”

Athit looked awkwardly at her. “Er..”

“Why not? Pens, paper, I accept them all. Because it means that you recognize that I’m talented and I can make grandma proud of me too!”

Athit stammered. “It’s that.. I don’t give gifts to my siblings.”

Disappointed, Darunee said, “There’s gotta be something- or some way that you show your siblings how proud you are. I’m not picky. I’ll have whatever they have.”

Athit looked at her and said, “Well, I, would go and hold them tightly and then tell them that I love them and very proud of them.”

Darunee shied away with his words.

“I don’t think you’d want me to show you in this way, right?”

Darunee smiled, “Well, if that is the case, you don’t need to congratulate me that way.” And she runs into the house.

Athit stood by the steps, smiling at her.

Awe, that was so sweet! Athit knows the right things to say to make a girl blush!

The tone of the drama is shifting, the mood lifting. Their relationship is building to the point that they recognized their responses of each other. Although the beginning of this episode started very solemnly, we are, yet again, rewarded with a sweet closure. One can only hope that Darunee has grown up! Stay tune for tomorrow’s episode!

“Why can’t it be these two?” Ep 7 Recap of This Land is Our Land

lovefia

Posted on July 13, 2012

Ah, what a great episode.

I love Aunt Kaew, she’s the mediator between the people in the house and the rest of the farm. Today, as Darunee and Grandma were setting the table for lunch, she reported that Athit won’t be joining them. He’s all about work these days- super quiet and keeps to himself. Aunt Kaew feels exhausted on his behalf because he’s working so hard. Grandma reckoned that he’s making himself busy so he won’t think about his problems. Aunt Kaew also mentioned that it was a good thing he already has a wife in Pakchong and doesn’t have to marry Thongprasri for real. Why is it that no one wants to know more about this mysterious “wife” of Athit’s?! Darunee listened with fervor to their conversation as concern etched her face. Feeling sorry for the enemy aren’t we?

Ah, but Athit is becoming less of an enemy to her as she tries to make up for her guilty conscience. This shows her true character and that ultimately she’s a responsible person and trying to make things better for someone she inadvertently affected. So Darunee is found watering Athit’s vegetable garden- she knew that he would be so busy with his other responsibilities. Singing and dancing to a song she learned as a child, Darunee did not see Athit behind her. Athit enjoyed the view before him; she is so fresh, young and vibrant. It brings a smile to his face despite his situation.

Embarrassed, Darunee turned away from his smile. He thanked her for helping him out but she brushed it off by saying that grandma told her to do it. Yep, just because she’s slowly turning over a new leaf, doesn’t mean that she wants him to see it. Stubbornness is still her strong suit. Athit still likes to tease her but he soon ended his friendly mood by telling her that he knew she would never help him on her own accord and that next time he will remind himself that when he sees her doing something for him, it’s only because grandma ordered her to do it.

You silly man, you give yourself no worth. Darunee looked on with apprehension; she wanted to say something like- No! I willingly did it for you! Grandma didn’t order me to! But instead, she thought maybe she can lighten the mood by spraying water on him. Maybe he’ll play along? Athit jumped at the surprised spray but did nothing, totally unaffected. Darunee turned her face with a pout. She tries again, this time using more water. But instead with a grimacing face, she smiles, showing him that she wanted to play. Athit did not participate and walked around her. She immediately frowned, wondering why he wasn’t playing with her- which goes to show that Athit has lost a little of his teasing and playfulness. It’s now all serious and depressed. Can she make him smile and tease her again?

Thongprasri and parents came to grandma’s home to tell everyone that she and Athit will have a wedding tomorrow. Tomorrow?! They were afraid he would run away. Everyone looked on with surprise except for Athit who said that it doesn’t matter whether they get married today, tomorrow or next year. They would eventually get married and he allowed her to do whatever she wanted. Lol, as if it will be her wedding and not his. The belligerent family cheered and left. Grandma told Athit that originally she feared that Athit would run away like his father and leave her, but now she almost wished he did so he wouldn’t have to marry Thongprasri. Nice one grandma! Athit said that he won’t run away, he’s living his dream of being a farmer now and he wouldn’t have the opportunity to do so if he left. What a dedicated man! Grandma offered to buy him a groom’s outfit for the wedding, but Athit declined politely, saying that the wedding day is like another day of work. (Lol)

Back to business, Athit asked if she could permit him to plant additional vegetable farms. Grandma asked if that would be too much work- but Athit said that he wanted to work hard so he could sleep well at night and not worry about things. Grandma agreed and told him to pick out the land and for Darunee to accompany him. (Yippee!) Then grandma asked her what she did all afternoon- Nee blanched since she didn’t want Athit to find out she actually helped him on her own- but everyone was against her this afternoon and ratted her out. Athit looked surprisingly at her, albeit a little shyly. Darunee looked like she wished the grounds would open up and swallow her.

Thonprasri’s parents announced the wedding with excitement, letting everyone know that their daughter would be marrying Athit. Viyada and family came to visit grandma- the parents could not attend so both Viyada and brother would be attending the wedding. Viyada could not believe her P’Athit is getting married to the scumbag. Her brother teased her that if he doesn’t get married today with that girl, he’d eventually get married with another girl that is not her (meaning Viyada.) Lol! They are so completely harmless.

That night Athit noticed a tear in his shirt and remembered that someone had sewn a previous shirt for him so he thought to see if Tod would sew this one. Apparently Tod did not fix it and they both assumed grandma did. Unable to sleep that night, he went to the big house and decided to ask if grandma would mind sewing this one for him. Surprisingly to him, he learned that Darunee was the one to patch his shirt! It seems like she has been surprising him a lot lately. He chided himself for bothering her again as he walked out- while Darunee chided herself for wanting to fix it for him immediately, lol. These two, they can’t help but be drawn to each other!

The following morning, Athit was getting ready for work when he noticed his shirt was folded nicely on the patio. He picked it up and looked at the patch work. Darunee snooped behind the cabin watching him trying on the shirt. Tod came around and teased him for wearing that shirt on his wedding day. He just didn’t know that Athit did not care for this auspicious day.

The preparation for the wedding was in full swing- Thongprasri donned her Thai gown and everyone was excited. Little did they know that Athit had not planned on going to the wedding- he will be working that day and picking up the vegetable seeds that he would be planting that day. Thongprasri is gilted at the alter again! Only this time, it doesn’t matter that the groom was not there, it’s still implied that they are “married.” Fortunately for her, they found a guinea pig and made Vey her pretend groom so she can save face! Vey gets forced into the ceremony, lol.

Grandma and Darunee were both shocked that Athit decided not to attend- Darunee hoped that Athit and Thongprasri could have a “normal” life- maybe so she could feel less bad about the whole situation? That is a little selfish because how could she hope that Athit would fall for a woman who manipulated him into a marriage? Grandma mentioned that it was nice for Darunee to wish him well- and relented that Darunee could only be nice for a short period of time.

She sure knows her granddaughter well!

As Darunee was studying under the tree- and very vocally at that- Athit came by to look at the land. He stood by the tree to listen to her recant of her lessons. She apparently got stuck on a concept and he helped her complete her sentence. When Darunee realized that it was NOT her voice recanting the lessons, she jumped up and became pissed off that Athit was on her territory.

“It’s my playground!” she screeched.

“Everything seems to belong to you.. this playground, the land, the house.. grandma.”

“I love everything here, especially my grandma!”

“Not everyone can hold on to things for that long..” Athit said and gave her a reality check, “At one point in time, something can belong to you, but then it can change hands and belong to someone else.”

This angered Darunee, “Are you telling me that you will take everything away from me?!”

“I’m not referring to myself,” he replied, “I meant it to everyone. We can’t own something for a long time. Everything is up to the Heavens. Do you understand, Darunee?”

“I do not!” she continued. “Grandma will always be my grandma.”

Then she noticed that grandma has returned from her errand, and immediately rode her bike to see her. You see, Darunee simply cannot be nice for long, lol. She is after all, still a kid and a very childish and possessive one at that.

At Thongprasri’s house, she’s crying her eyes out and her parents asked her pointedly if Athit raped her or did she rape Athit for him to be so careless and disregard of their reputation. Thongprasri vowed that she will make him her husband!

That evening, grandma made Darunee bring some snacks over to Athit. The three stooges were there as well and contrived to bring the two closer together. As she was about to leave, they told her that they saw a snake beside her. They feared for her safety and didn’t want her to walk home alone, but they too were scared to take her. So naturally Athit volunteered. Darunee told him that if he didn’t want to do it, he didn’t have to. Athit responded curtly that he didn’t do anything he was not already happy to do! Love the bickering!

So they walk through the farm, the night creeping in. Finally Darunee noticed a freaky snake slithering closer to them. She told him to stop and motioned to the snake. Both afraid, they remained rooted in their place. Athit brought his hands together and began to pray, he chanted out loud. Darunee followed suit and closed her eyes. As they pried their eyes open, the snake was still there. After awhile, Darunee was afraid that they would stand there all night so she told him that they needed to speak in plain terms- maybe his incantation was too fancy? They decided on her simple method, as she prepared and screamed from the top of her lungs.

Hilarious!

Athit closed both ears and cringed, the trees were rattled, the grass was shaken and the snake too decided to run away.

Athit walked Darunee to the house and they bickered again because his teasing ways are back. She was worried that he would walk into the same snake but Athit told her that she scared everything away already, including the oranges. Lol.

Aunt Kaew watched them from the corner and could not smile from ear to ear. Grandma caught her watching them and they both sighed, why can’t it be this couple? Yes.. why can’t it?!

The next morning, Grandma and Darunee went to help Athit plant his new vegetable seeds. After learning that they can make a lot of money once they grow out, Darunee immediately jumped on the ship and told him that he could pay her too. It was an adorable moment because for once, Darunee decided to openly help him. Even grandma made this observation. Of course Thongprasi appears and ruins the pretty moment. She wanted to help and the three stooges put her to work, in her tacky outfit and umbrella. While they were planting, Darunee kept making remarks that Athit is slow because he keeps looking at his “wife.” Jealous aren’t we? Athit looked into her eyes and asked her who he was looking at now, which made her look away shyly. Athit, you sure know how to make a woman blush!

Frustrated by the lack of attention she was receiving from Athit, Thongprasri complained to her friend, whom recommended that she needed to change her focus. She needed to bring attention to herself by making nice to someone he holds dear to his heart.. (grandma!)

Athit walks grandma around the new plot of land he decided on turning into another farm. They have a heart to heart conversation about lessons in life.. Athit thanked her again for giving him the opportunity to prove to everyone that he can farm. He won’t promise that he won’t fail again.. only that he will try his hardest. Grandma told him that if he uses his failures as a lesson in life and don’t repeat it for a second time, that is all she could ask for. Athit reflected that before he came to the farm- he said that he felt bad that he didn’t pursue his education- but he now feels that he made the right decision because working on the farm- doing what he dreams and loves- is like being in a classroom and receiving an education. Grandma has taught him the value of the land and he doesn’t feel like he is missing or lacking anything in life. And he goes on both knees to give his grandma respect. How can you not love a grandma that is making your dreams come true? How can you not love a grandson who is a hard worker and such a good person?

Their moment together bothered Darunee. She was in the kitchen, cooking and waiting for grandma to return- she felt that she was gone for too long. Every minute with Athit makes Darunee afraid that he will steal the love away from her, lol. Viyada and Vey was trying to get Darunee to go to the Korean concert with them, but she wasn’t into that kind of thing.

Grandma finally returns with Athit and Thongprasri’s family came to bother them again. They demanded that Athit make an appearance at their family meals too. Athit told Thongprasri to stop bringing her family to bother grandma again. He told her to live her life the way she normally does and he storms out. Thongprasri cries unmercifully. The parents requested that Thongprasi move in to the farm. Grandma didn’t mind- then the family asked what will happen should the “other” wife show up? Grandma said it was none of her business and she won’t intrude unless it harms anyone on the farm. Thongprasi’s mom sticks her finger in grandma’s face and totally disrespected her. Yelling and being obnoxious. Grandma was not having any of it and walked into the house.

The next afternoon, Darunee came to get Athit for a meal at the house. Athit said that he would eat with the workers but Darunee told him that grandma made the meal with her own hands so he needed to go. Of course that guilt him into going. The three stooges grinned ear to ear when they saw the two walk away together. Why can’t it be these two? They asked out loud. Exactly, why not?!

As Athit rode the bike with Darunee sitting behind him and was prepared to ride down the slope- Darunee stopped him. She remembered the last time they went down and she was holding on to him and screaming. She told him that she would be the one to drive it. Then she imagined Athit holding her as they go down the slope and changed her mind again. Exasperated, she told him she needed time to think about whom will be the one to drive down the slope. Athit then decided to walk the bike down the slope himself. Why didn’t I think of that? Darunee asked herself as she followed him. Because you’re too busy thinking about him holding you!! Haha.

At the dining table, Athit was ensconced with the meal, he thought it was delicious and thanked grandma. But grandma told him that she didn’t make it, Darunee did. Surprised at her ability yet again, Athit said he didn’t think she could make something like this. To prove him wrong, she recited how she cooked the meal. Grandma flattered her and told her that she will make someone a great housewife down the road. Aunt Kaew added that it’s too bad there’s no “man” in the picture. Darunee told them that she’s only focused on school so she could finish quickly and help grandma with the farm. Then she insinuated that some people may not be around much longer to help with the farm. Athit looked stoically at her and asked if she didn’t want him around? Darunee merely said that she didn’t think he would want his family to be in this difficult environment. Athit adamantly told her that he won’t leave the farm.. unless someone wants him gone. Darunee perked at the thought and firmly said to him, “Just remember what you said today.” Oh you can be so mean, Darunee. Give the guy a break! But then again, we already know that Darunee cannot be nice for too long.

The end of episode 7 takes us to Darunee’s grandest moment: she has to take her extrance examination. This is the most important day of her life thus far, not only that, it will mark the beginning of her adulthood. Nothing can bring her mood down. She’s determined to pass the exams.

Grandma wished her luck and reiterated that she will not be disappointed if Darunee does not pass. Vey came to take her to school and the two made their way down the farm. The car stopped at where Athit and his three farm workers were standing. The three stooges did a good luck, cheerleading dance for her. Excited, Darunee got out of the car and walked over to them. With cheerfulness she thanked them for the kind thought. Athit had picked a pretty, small blue flower from the grass and was holding it between his fingers. She immediately took note of that and plucked it off his fingers. She looked in his eyes and thanked him for it. Her contagious smile made the three stooges and Athit smile back as she skipped back to the car.

Athit waved at her as the car steered its way along the road. The three stooges looked at him and grinned like fools. It is nice to see that Darunee can make him smile again 🙂

That was a sweet scene, a great closure to episode 7, definitely uplifting from the earlier cloud that was hovering over our two main leads. They are slowly realizing that they are doing ridiculous things for each other, but can’t seem to realize why! Fondness is starting to develop and if their scenes continue to be so damn sweet, I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself!
