It’s all about James: Ruk Sudrit

lovefia

If you haven’t figured it out already, Ruk Sudrit aka Race (the English title as suggested by the production team) has James Jirayu front and center as the self prescribed bad boy with daddy issues. Something happened between his parents, which caused his mom to hightail out of Thailand, leaving her only son to deal with the controlling father alone. But Ittirit does not blame his momma who abandoned them; he blames his father instead for putting his momma through tears and strife. And to make matters worse, his father adopted his partner’s son, adding another level of competition and angst in Ittirit’s eyes. So Ittirit opts to play the misunderstood rebel.

Therefore it is not surprising that during his final examination in his final year in college, Ittirit is caught cheating. The teacher’s assistant, and his newest foe, Chanamon (Punch Worakarn) fails him on the spot. As she reconsiders the verdict, Ittirit confirms her decision by charging at her with his motorcycle.  Boy doesn’t help matters. Thankfully, his father is the Major General and pleads with the professor to give Ittirit another chance to redeem himself. The professor approves that Ittirit may retake the test, however, he must ace the exam and attend school in the summer quarter. If he could achieve the aforementioned condition(s), he may actually graduate.

You know you’ve taken too long of a break from this recapping business when you return to a series, and forgot everyone’s name. But here’s to refreshing the memory (clinks glass) and let’s proceed with Hormones.

Episode 2 centers on Tar, a teenager who aspires to be a musician, but also to be noticed as someone cool.

Well hello there, happy mid-month.

As a personal confession, I’ve made zero progress in NaNoWriMo and I know why. Aside from the obvious no time excuse, I have discovered that perhaps I’m just not motivated enough to write a novel. A national anything shouldn’t be the only reason to motivate an aspiring someone to really do something with themselves. The person, who strives for something or to be someone, should have already been working towards his/her dream, and this challenge is a great reason to start pursuing it.

It’s counter intuitive really, that I should come to this conclusion as I watch the clock rapidly ticking away. But it’s liberating all the same. So I wish the best to those who are partaking in this endeavor, because I know you’re in it for the right reasons. I am happy to cheer you on.

Now back to lakorns. Where’s everyone at?

Sixth Sense 2 should end this weekend, it’s already at episode 20 today, but seeing that they are combining 3 books in 1 lakorn, I guess no one is complaining. Well maybe in exception to those who aren’t watching this.. and are waiting for new lakorns to air. (Guilty.)

Teasers are out for Madam Dun and Wieng Roy Dao, you know I’m tuning into both. And then there’s the usual suspect that’s soon to air.. can lakorns make a big impact before the end of the year, or will they rather start fresh for the new year? We shall see!

Happy November – Lakorn Year End Check In

The adorable Nadech Yaya, thanking their fans for 100K likes on facebook.

If you don’t want to write a novel in a month, there is another writing challenge: write a blog post every day for the month of November. It’s called NaBloPoMo haha, WordPress comes up with the most interesting of acronyms. If you opt to participate in this challenge, please feel free to post your blog link on the comment section below. And if you’re blogging specifically about lakorns for this entire month, then that’s doubly awesome. Go you! Yay us!

What do you remember this year?

A reader posted an awesome question in the previous open thread about ‘wow’ lakorns. This got my wheels turning. Lakorn watching is clearly subjective, because what I find interesting can be a meh to you. However, I think a wow lakorn is pretty universal, it’s wow in all aspect of the writing, directing, acting- and the all important cast chemistry. For example, it would be difficult to admit that Sood Saneha wasn’t a wow lakorn and didn’t deserve it’s accolades.

What seems to be embedded in my memory this year are the Khunchais, is it a coincidence? Do the elders of Channel 3 get together one fine day, mayhaps towards the end of 2012 and say, ‘well, I reckon we’ll make 2013 a Khunchai year?’ From the palace of Juthathep, to the mystery of Rangsiya and finally to the finely sculpted pecks of Khunchai Jantarapanu, it’s hardly surprising that we are on this Khunchai train. Nevertheless, I welcome the period train and the modern take, because at the end of the day, these lakorns reiterate that we need more gentlemen in our lives. Most importantly, we don’t need a spotless pedigree to preserve our values and fight for what we believe in.

Halloween Week [Open Thread] #8

halloween

Happy Hallloweeeen My Dear Readers!

Who here loves Halloween? It’s a month of spookiness celebrated in the US- where kids and adults get to be whomever they wish for one day. What do you want to be? Are you dressing up this year?

It’s a madness month for me, work and life is equally busy, prompting me to wish for more hours in a day so I can do everything I don’t have time to do- such as read the stack of ebooks waiting for me, blog, watch my American TV shows and Thai lakorns. My team at work intended to be a group of superheroes, but alas, some people just can’t pull through. ‘Tis the life of a discombobulated, dysfunctional group.

Halloween also marks the end of the month, which means we’ve only two more months until the end of the year- not to mention the year in review! I want time to stop or just slow the hell down. I’m still attempting to recap Hormones the Series- at a very slow pace I might add- but there is this one project that’s been gnawing at me since the onset of this blog: NaNoWriMo 2013, which really means, National Novel Writing Month hosted by WordPress. And I’m just talking out loud.. but who here wants to join me in writing something (50K words) in a month? Sounds exciting? Intimidating? And absolutely time consuming? Mayhaps I need to bow out of this one even before starting, ha. Where am I going to find the time? I have two days left to decide!

So what’s up with your life? What lakorns are you watching? What the heck is going on in the lakornblogosphere?

Hormones Episode 1: Testosterone

A strong start to the Hormones series, Episode 1 introduces us to the compelling cast by presenting the theory that in order to reach an answer, we must first ask a question. Even though you may fear authority, but if you express your point of view, perhaps there are many people out there who feel the same way, but are just waiting for a brave soul to lead the way. Power in numbers. With that being said, let’s get this show on the road.

Hormones the Series – The Confusing Teen (Wai Waa Woon)

Brought to us by GTH (Grammy cable channel one), Hormones the Series follow the lives of nine high school students in modern Thai society. It’s a bold and refreshing take on your not so average teen drama, beyond the typical teen angst, and delving into the gritty teen reality. It’s a bird’s eye view into the good, bad and ugly- yet never placing judgments, only revealing what is. For only when you open your eyes to the real problems in society, you can then finally resolve the issues.

That is indeed the goal of this Thai series, one unlike any primetime lakorns and should not be compared to as such. Hormones the Series has taken Thailand by storm, as well as making waves internationally, accruing fans of the young and old alike. Let’s see what the hype is all about, do stay tune to the 14 episode series, and currently, my newest recapping project. This popular, boundary pushing (the media likes to coin this show, controversial) has already acquired its second season.

Updates.. and Anko Kon Rak Strawberry

lovefia

Posted on October 11, 2013

ankokonrakstrawberry

Oh thank god it’s Friday. It’s been a rough week. It’s the beginning of fourth quarter and the end of work life balance as we know it.

Interestingly enough, I’ve been quite happy to stare mindlessly at the television during my self-imposed break time; the American television shows that is. In the last few weeks, shows such as the Blacklist, Sleepy Hollow, and Agents of Shield premiered their first episodes. They were good and had great potential. Yet as the episodic series continue, I find myself slowly caring less about it. Then there are the shows that I’ve watched on and off in the last year, Glee, the Voice, New Girl that recently launched their new seasons as well. I wanted to see how Glee would say their goodbyes to Finn Hudson, watch Adam Levine in his white t-shirt, and see if Jess and Nick can make their relationship work. The Voice and New Girl still manage to captivate me, well, as much as my Hopper would permit, but Glee on the other hand, although doing a great job with Cory Monteith memorial (which you can’t watch with dry eyes!) the show itself is losing its steam. The greatest thing about American TV shows is that you can miss many episodes and still manage to piece the story together. Awesome.

But lakorns on the other hand, give me quite satisfaction over watching every minute of the series. There are several premiers in the lakorn world as well: Thong Nua Kao, Parp Ataan, Anko Kon Rak Strawberry and Reuan Kalong. Depending on your preference, you may find enjoyment in any one of these October releases. I decided to check out Anko Kon Rak Strawberry, Citizen Kane’s second lakorn directed by Noi Bussakorn (Ken Theeradeth’s wife), following ‘Rak Kon Tao Fah.’ Anko..Strawberry is a romantic comedy surrounding Anya (aka Anko) who is a talented recruiter, working for an executive head hunting firm. She’s quirky, funky, and even ‘unique,’ her words. She’s a shopaholic, preferring expensive shoes, bags and outlandish outfits. Only Chompoo Araya could dress up in eye sore clothing and look confident. Perhaps it helps because she’s one of the host on 3 Zaap? No one else in her proximity seems to agree with her sense of style, but Anko is of the opinion that she doesn’t really care about other people’s opinions. More power to you, girl.

Andrew Gregson returns to the small screen with new lakorn

lovefia

Posted on October 5, 2013

Screen Shot 2013-10-05 at 11.57.41 AM

I need a fangirl moment and screeammmmm. It’s Andrew Gregson, the god of all things lakorn fever. He has been a force to be reckoned with back in the heydays. I mean directors are still remaking his lakorns: Torranee (’98), Rak Kerd Nai Talad Sod (2001). And still a few others that need to be brought back to life: Look Mai Klai Ton (2000), Musaya (2000), and Tang Parn Kammathep (2001).

After a hiatus from primetime television and the unsuccessful Kehas See Dang in 2011, Komchadleuk has revealed that Andrew has been casted for a playboy role in a romantic comedy, brought to us by Act Art production. It will be part three of a five part series entitled Mafia Leurd Mungkorn, alongside an interesting slew of casts: Ananda, Ken, Boy, Kimberly, Cherry, Janie.  The names P’Dang and P’Off should spur memories of Khunchai Ratchanon, Roy Mai, and Rak Kerd Nai Talad Sod. Andrew and the producer/director have maintained closeness since the filming of 12 Rasee back in 2003, and so it’s a natural teamwork for this new project.

The even bigger news here is his pairing with Taew Nattaporn, who has become one of the best actresses for Channel 3- she’s got both the smarts, looks and acting chops- not to mention the ratings and successes that trail after her lakorns wake. Granted, there’s certainly a lot of things that can go awry during a casting for a lakorn, and anything can happen between now and fitting day. However, if Andrew Gregson is returning to the small screen and pairing with Taew Nataporn, it’s a ship I’m totally boarding. In fact, it’s such an exciting prospect, I’ll be keeping a close eye on this little gem, and maybe even the whole series.

Next year the mafias are taking over, whether they are the mafias in Thailand (Mafia Leurd Mungkorn) or the mafias in Japan (Rising Sun Series.)  So goodbye gentlemen and hello..gangstas?

topkanTGIF! Happy weekend, happy beer drinking (if that’s your thing), happy wine tasting (why are we ‘drinking’ beer and ‘tasting’ wine? Something’s wrong with that picture.) And to those who are following Sixth Sense 2, happy watching!

Have you ever had one of those days where you go to work and say to yourself, ‘I’m just not feeling it?’ I’m having one of those days. Apparently my co-worker says she has those days all the time. Ha. Anything interesting going on in your world this weekend? What are you currently watching (old or new lakorns?) I’m still left with a sense of withdrawal /nostalgia (albeit small) from Dao Kiaw Duen… moreso because now what am I going to do on W-Th?

As an update to you, I’m going to take a wee break from the recapping madness. I may still write contemplative articles about any particular lakorns that catch my fancy, but I probably won’t dedicate my time to one specific lakorn yet. Here are the lakorns on my horizon (watching horizon, that is) that may or may not air soon: Rak Sud Rit (James Ji and Punch), Yah Leum Chan (Ann, Tik), Samee Tee Tra (Pope, Ploy), Sai See Plerng (Chompoo, Chakrit, Por N) and of course, Rising Sun Series! They all need to hurry up and launch! What are you anticipating for?
