It’s an action packed episode! Our hero finds his condition much improved, but only to be kicked back to square one. This time around though, he’s well prepared for the mental and physical strength required in order to heal. The clan is encountering some dark days and some valuable members lives are lost, leaving a few others just hanging by a thread. When the leader and warriors are all currently afflicted, what’s a heroine to do in order to remain her future hubby’s Okamesang? Two words: take charge. And that she does.

Roy Run Tawan Deurd: Episode 8

Nothing can be more emasculating than to lose your ability to walk and having to rely on your beloved, not to mention looking weak and pathetic in front of her. It’s enough to challenge our hero at the core of his being, and question his character. Can he persevere when it seems like there’s no light at the end of the tunnel? Can their relationship stand strong amidst this challenge? So much pain, but it’s the good kind of pain. Show pulled off another solid episode!

Roy Fun Tawan Deurd: Episode 7

Mayumi has certainly earned her fanfare this episode, hasn’t she? Such is the reality in life, when you realize how precious someone is, it is far too late. But lucky for her (and us) Mayumi still has time to win over our hearts and prove herself to Ryu. And if this episode is any indication, that is a moot point, because we have already fallen in love.

Roy Fun Tawan Deurd Ep 6: The momentous reconciliation

Mayumi Takahashi allowed the first confession that Ryu Onitsuka had been keeping tabs on her for the past seven years roll off her back. I mean, the man could probably say anything to try to get in her good graces. Besides, she had been working very hard to keep her emotions at bay, she had become quite proficient in the past years relegating this very man in the deep recess of her heart. In addition, the doubts of his commitment is full-fledged, he tells her that he loves only her, yet there’s this woman who claims that he’s been seeing her for the past seven years.

But as much as she tried to deny that he’s pulling her leg or the fact that the feelings that she had buried deep within her heart had slowly risen to the surface, Mayumi could not deny the evidence that greeted her. It happened the day after she was injured, after Ryu washed her back and was the image of a perfect (albeit conniving) fiancé, and especially after she was ready to explode about the butterfly pin that he denied knowing anything about.

[Open Thread] #13 Escape

lovefia

Posted on September 10, 2014

escape

I read an article today about the trends that will shape consumer behavior this year. One of the things the author mentioned is “escape,” which speaks to our world of austerity and grown up responsibility, and that in the midst of all of the daily responsibilities, we feel the overwhelming desire to let loose and let go. I find that this item speaks to my inability to remain still in this past month. I’m constantly seeking travels and wanderlusting activities where I can forget for a moment that I have work and bills to pay. I drive myself to the point of exhaustion balancing work and play, when really, what I should be doing is simply nothing.

My company is sending us on a retreat to Whistler for a long weekend, further exonerating that there can be work and play, but let’s not kid ourselves that a work retreat is all play and no work. Following this trip, I have a good friend’s wedding in another part of this world (destination weddings are the rage this year) and I’m thinking that before I could even do what I should do – which is nothing – I’m pretty sure I will be embroiled in everything.

So as life demands my time, I will try to get recaps for Rising Sun #2 when I have some free time. Although during those long days, all I really want to do is crawl in bed. And maybe eat chocolate chip cookies. Feel free to discuss what’s going on in your life or what lakorns you’re currently watching! What is your escape?

Roy Fun Tawan Deurd: Episode 5

Who’s having a ball watching our duo play a game of charades? Our heroine is angry but refuses to communicate why she’s angry with the hero. While the hero feels like a rug has been pulled out from underneath him, and he has no idea how to fix the situation, because he doesn’t understand what (if anything) he did wrong in the first place. So despite asking for a clue or an explanation, and receiving cryptic responses in return, our hero decides the best remedy is hugs and kisses! Okay, maybe no kisses, but I’ll take the hugs!  One can always be worn down with hugs and kisses. Hee.

Hello Lovelies! It’s Wednesday, it’s the Rising Sun series day, and another crazy day in the Onitsuka neighborhood. Should we hug our pra’ek, slap our pra’ek or maybe even throttle him? Either way you may find yourself going through a mired of hot and cold emotions, but very emotional nonetheless. Maybe you know this is coming, maybe you are caught by surprise. One thing is clear if you’re an NY fan: you’re going to love this episode.

Roy Fun Tawan Deurd: Episode 3 (Of Time Period and Cherry Blossoms)

ny1

At 35,000 feet above sea level, with the cabin pressure, crying babies, uncomfortable seat (no matter how small one’s body frame is) and traveling through different time zones, I’m able to watch episode 3 of Roy Fun Tawan Deurd at long last, which, I have come to find, puts me in equal parts blissful happiness and foreboding dread.

Before we get into the opposing spectrum, I wanted to speak to the setting of this drama, which has been a frequent inquiry among RFTD fans. For those of us who has not read the novel, we may find that at first, this lakorn feels like it takes place in the present. Styles do come back, right? Or maybe we thought that’s how they’re dressed in Japan. Whatever the case may be, we start to question the time period of the lakorn when things start to appear outdated: such as the politics, yakuza and mannerisms.

I will admit that I was ignorant of it all until I started digging around and discovered that the novel itself takes place during the era in which Yakuza clans dominate the scene. Even though present time, police and the public may consider them as violent groups (or organized crime syndicates), they (and the people they protect) consider themselves as chivalrous groups, living with strict codes of conduct. So for all intense and purposes, let’s date this lakorn in 1970s timeframe. The show does not point out to the exact period itself – probably for creative integrity reasons – so we are left to surmise that the setting is a little over 40 years ago, which could be considered as a period drama (depending on who you ask) but coincides well with the costumes, mannerisms and plot of this lakorn.

Roy Fun Tawan Deurd: Episode 2

This episode gives me immeasurable happiness in terms of our duo R&M. The story is still working itself out, introducing us to who is friend and who is foe (for the time being anyway.) So to that end, I can be a little patient. Our hero learns that just because he has been stalking our girl for 7 years, doesn’t mean it earns him any brownie points, especially if our girl is in the dark about it. He’s going to have to convince her the old fashioned way. *smile*

I’m on a time crunch today – have a flight to catch and all – so I apologize for the limiting screenshots (I was only able to take half of this episode’s screenshots.) I will reconvene with episode 3 upon my return next week. Thereafter, I’m traveling off and on this coming month, so recaps will be sporadic at best – possibly in random days and a week late – but there will be recaps!

And finally, I can’t say that there is a more enjoyable way to send me off to Paradise than to see the contagious smiles of Nadech and Yaya! Off we go!

Roy Fun Tawan Deurd: Episode 1

lovefia

Posted on August 21, 2014

 royfuntawandeurd

Roy Fun Tawan Deurd is finally here! Yes! You have my permission to do a jig.

Rising Sun Series #2 has a whole set of new villains and has upped the conflict for Onitsuka. The first episode takes its necessary time to introduce the main players, set up the subplots and string us along the internal battle that Ryu goes through. He has conceded to the fact that life as a Samurai’s wife is dangerous and heartbreaking, after witnessing his sister in law going through those wretched tears, he does not wish it upon Mayumi. Why not nip it in the bud? Or so he thought. But it’s not so easy letting someone you love go. Especially when you continue to sneak little peaks at her, hoping that it will be enough.

And the pretty OST? We have a duet version of the main title song as well as the song by Nadech and Yaya. I pretty much can listen to anything Lula sings, and I adore NY harmonizing together. Love.
