Poo Dee E-Sarn: Episode 3

lovefia

Posted on January 21, 2019

What I enjoy most about this show is the tone, and at the backdrop of this tone, is this thoughtful writing. I feel like I am part of this world, rooted with these characters whom I have come to care about. Because of the author’s thoughtfulness, she opens up a world where we can sit back, relax and trust in the process.

In this episode, Chet gets a new housekeeper (houseboy) and on his survey of the population, he learns more about the former Nai Amphoe, directly from the people of his district.

Posted on January 20, 2019

Nai Amphoe Chet settles in his new district, learning the big and small players. We get an introduction to Chet’s personality, and what he is made of. At the same time, Saleen looks for a job at the Amphoe’s office but finds herself going a different direction. As she sees firsthand that Nai Amphoe Chet fears no one, not even the influential Phor Yai Loi, we are all like Saleen, feeling a little bit safer with Nai Amphoe Chet steering this ship. So, hop on everyone, the ship is sailing.

New Recapping Project: Poo Dee E-Sarn: Episode 1

lovefia

Posted on January 18, 2019

Let’s begin our year by taking a nice, long stroll with Poo Dee E-Sarn, a lakorn that aired back in 2013 on Channel 3. I will endeavor to cover recaps for this, releasing a few episodes a week. This show has that lighthearted, romantic comedy feel to it that keeps me coming back for more. It is to be savored and drawn out as long as delectably possible, and with it being an evening lakorn, there are a total of 31 episodes, in 55 minutes increment. Let’s get our slow burn going, one bite sized episode at a time.

First Look: “Nang Rai” – True Life of a Drama Queen

lovefia

Posted on January 16, 2019

The first episode of “Nang Rai” which means female antagonist, introduces us to our protagonist, Kaewalai (Now Tisanart), and how she was discovered and came to star as the “nang’rai” in this lakorn world. Kae has been blessed with amazing looks, but prior to entering the entertainment industry, she worked multiple jobs to support her poor family, which includes the gambling addict mother, drunk father, and three selfish siblings (and a partridge in a pear tree). Men who couldn’t contain their own perverted thoughts decide to kidnap and rape her after a construction shift was over. Thankfully, Anuwadee (Maggi Apa) – a newbie model/dancer – and her mother, discovers Kae being dragged into the trees and rescues her.

Part 2 Review of “Sampatan Huajai”: City Dwelling – its Complicated

lovefia

Posted on January 15, 2019

The second half of the story follows Rattawan, as she steels her spine to determine who wants her dead. She doesn’t have a lot of enemies so the likeliest culprit is her husband, though Nai Hua – whom we will now call Naboon since we’re in the city – encourages her not to make any false accusations without proper evidence. Naboon assigns his trusted friend, and Navy Captain, along with his watchmen to oversee her safety. Captain Patai signed up because he believes that her husband is responsible for his sister’s disappearance, since she was one of his mistresses. Meanwhile Naboon sets out to play Phuket’s bad boy to lure the human traffickers and those associated with Rattawan’s attempted murder to the forefront. It is like we are starting a new story, now with Naboon and Rattawan pretending to be mere business acquaintances, and not doe eyed lovers. Island life is definitely a thing of the past.

Neung Dao Fah Diew – the 30 Min (or more) Lecture by Greta

lovefia

Posted on January 13, 2019

Hello Dear Readers! Please give a warm welcome to Greta, our guest writer for a lecture series on Neung Dao Fah Diew. We invite you to join this class as Greta presents the breakdown analysis of the story and historical figures in NDFD. If we’re lucky, this will be a series of lectures! I met Greta through her insightful comments on the blog and have always valued her input. Now we all get to spend some time picking her brains. So without further ado.. I give you Greta. ~Lovefia

The sheer number of natural hair in Khun Date’s legs vis-à-vis Aok Pra Sri Khantin’s legs (under the robes) is just one of the many minute differences in this lakorn.

Written By Greta (@gretutay)

I’ve always wanted to write a piece (read: gush) about Nueng Dao Fah Diew (“One Land, One Sky”) since it bears a special place in my heart (but that’s another story). I have the honor and the opportunity to join the English subbing team for this lakorn, and I was able to gain more insight about this piece, more than any other lakorn that I’ve watched.

I had some apprehension for this lakorn once news came out that it’ll be shown after the so-called “National Lakorn” Bhuppae Sanniwat (Love Destiny). In retrospect, although the two lakorns have a lot of similarities, it’s safe to say these two lakorns are completely different. Having said that however, the best way to start, is to pick up from where Bhuppae Sanniwat left off.

Part 1 Review of “Sampatan Huajai”: Island Stint

lovefia

Posted on January 8, 2019

“Sampatan Huajai,” also known as “Concession of Love” takes us into a new foray within the world of lucrative Birds Nest Trade, along with a high rolling hotel business world. Our hero, Naboon (Weir Sukullawat) owns Tham Island, the furthermost island on the Andaman Sea, off the coast of Phuket, where swiftlets (birdies) inhabit within its limestone caves. Naboon is called “Nai Hua” when he is on the island, directing the harvesting of the birds’ nest, so we will use his name and title interchangeably. This story opens during the second harvest of birds’ nest along the cavern walls, where birds nest climbers spend all day extracting white nests – made entirely by a bird’s saliva. It’s a fascinating, profitable trade, but also very dangerous to both the climbers – as they risk falling and breaking their necks – as well as to Nai Hua, due to thieves and poachers who will stop at nothing to steal the birds nest, a delicacy that is considered caviar of the east.

First Look: Buang Nareumit, Nuay Lap Salap Love

lovefia

Posted on January 5, 2019

Two lakorns aired this week on Channel 3, the modern-period lakorn with Matt and Once upon a time Rome (complete with a new face and new name), along with a romcom starring Mint Chalida and Mai Warit. I tuned into both lakorns, and will say that I like Nuay Lap Salap Love better. The common denominator, both actresses are playing actresses.

A Year of Great Lakorn Heroes

lovefia

Posted on December 30, 2018

The year in lakorns has been a pleasantly surprising year of good lakorns, featuring great actors in many great roles. This doesn’t always happen, sometimes I thank my lucky stars if I get to watch one spectacular lakorn a year. But 2018 production teams and channel elders have really stepped up their game, taking us through various parts of history, inviting us into the lives and homes of characters that have staying power, and a writing, directing and acting team so committed to the storytelling that it leaves us aching long after the credits roll.
