First Ekkaphong in Kularb Son Klin

lovefia

Posted on May 12, 2014

Currently airing on evening television is Kularb Son Klin starring First Ekkaphong and Marie Broenner by Quiz and Quest production. Evening dramas air Monday to Friday for 50 minutes and doesn’t procure as many viewers as their primetime counterpart, and they tend to be a little fluffier and a lot more contrived. However, after giving evening dramas my due diligence, I find myself enjoying it so thoroughly. And you have one person to thank for that, First Ekkaphong. Despite being relegated to playing an evening drama pr’ek, I find First to be more engaging than other primetime pr’eks out there. He’s charming, too tall, and absolutely too handsome for his own good. I started noticing First in Nang Rai Summer where he delighted me…

The Lady Summer (Nang Rai Summer)– A Review

lovefia

Posted on May 5, 2014

More than twenty years ago, Pu Song Tarn Resort in Ratburi had once been a renowned resort due to its exotic and rare hybrid flower, The Lady Summer. However after the unfortunate death of its horticulturist, this rare breed ceased to bloom and flower for any eyes to feast upon its beauty, thus taking away the guests, the popularity, and the curiosity with it, leaving Pu Song Tarn Resort scraping by in present day, with an interested buyer knocking at its door. But the younger generation of the resort owner, Tonnam (First Akkapong), has grand ideals and strong work ethic, not to mention something to prove. He is determined to turn things around and make his resort- a resort that his father built from…

Spinsters and Casanovas

lovefia

Posted on April 28, 2014

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single woman in possession of a good head, must be in want of greener pastures. In the case of Spinster versus Casanovas, three 35 year old women – established women mind you – are handed a classic feminine issue, their good friend is getting married and they are still, unequivocally single. This usually doesn’t bother them, until their good friend contrives for all three women to meet face to face after several years since the disbandment of their friendship.  Suddenly, the competitiveness, the pain and hurt takes center stage. The three women turn their pain into anger and vow that they will MARRY before the other and in one month no less. It doesn’t matter that…

How Saila became the Flame Rose (Kularb Fai)

lovefia

Posted on August 9, 2013

Saila (Sara Legge) never knew that she had always been the chosen one. She is much too busy being the head of the household and taking care of her two younger sisters (Da and Orn) and her younger brother (Tong.) Life handed her a lot of lemons: her father died protecting his country and her mother’s life was taken by a vicious car accident. Thus she had to drop out of college to support her siblings. During this trying time, her boyfriend Chutchid (Nott Vorarit) had been her rock and practically saving her: buying her a home, giving her a job. Even though they were about the same age and he rose to riches and climbed the company ladder beyond anyone’s imagination, Saila was…

Suparburoot Juthathep (Gentlemen of Juthathep) Review & Fia’s Top Picks

lovefia

Posted on July 8, 2013

The Gentlemen of Juthathep is a five part series taken place in the span of the 1960’s surrounding the lives of five brothers of Juthathep palace who were raised by their two grandmothers after a car accident that claimed the lives of their parents, namely Mom Chao Vichakorn Juthathep. Born into the prestigious title of Mom Ratchawongse, the five brothers are set on a pedestal by their grandmothers to not only be a gentleman, but to set a good example, defend the underdog and marry well. Especially marry well. And we get to witness how each one tackle this issue. This sets the premise of the struggles and conflict in this series. The five Juthatheps inherited a responsibility greater than the sum of their…

Khun Chai Pawornruj – A Review

lovefia

Posted on April 21, 2013

It’s so easy to fall in love with Khun Chai Pawornruj, the second part of the Five Gentlemen Series, brought to us by Good Feeling. It is like watching a hero from a historical romance novel coming to life. There are so many good elements in this lakorn, and I’m enjoying it so thoroughly, that I find myself having a hard time explaining why- probably because I’m too busy swooning. But we can start with the first and easiest attraction: Pope Thanawat. He is the perfect choice for Khun Chai Ruj. There is so much depth and angst to his character that it grabs you by the heart, and Pope plays it to a tee. Among the five brothers, he is the only Khun…

Fah Krajang Dao – Summary

lovefia

Posted on April 14, 2013

Fah Krajang Dao is the third part of the Three Musketeers series, following Mon Jan Tra (Margie and Chakrit.) This lakorn will be the third remake of its time (which is based off of a book)- but hopefully TV scene and the new pairing will offer a different perspective. J’s inquiry of a summary got me curious- and since there aren’t detailed English summaries of FKD out there- I decided to summarize the Thai one from Kapook. It is such an optimistic title for a lakorn with a dark backdrop, probably the most serious out of the three. The n’ek (Mee) has a pretty messed up past, she was raised by her aunt (her father wouldn’t take responsibility over her mother when she was…

Body Swap in Pon Prom Onlaweng

lovefia

Posted on January 23, 2013

It’s madness. Simply madness. I know I complain about remakes and yet, all I watch and anticipate are remakes. Haven’t you taken a good look at my upcoming project list? Well, I’m going to add Pon Prom Onlaweng (Tumultous Destiny/Fate) to my radar. Not for Boy Pakorn. Not for Bella Ranee (since I’ve no idea who she is..) but simply for the memories of PPO (which featured Dodo and Ann Siriam way back when.) It’s one of those older lakorns that challenges clichéd lakorn plots, stretches your emotional acceptance and manages to make you laugh at the same time. It is a rom com after all. The plot surrounds a grown woman who body swaps with a five year old due to an accident.…

Next Recapping Project: Dao Reurng (Summary)

lovefia

Posted on January 7, 2013

Woot! In this lakorn remake, Dao Reurng, starring Por Thrisadee and Yaya Urassaya, we are going to leave the fancy pants in Bangkok and don our plaid shirts (with a gun holster) in the upcountry. From No Problem Production by Mam Thitima and director P’Num Krit, which brought us the lakorn that went straight to my heart, Phoo Yai Lee Gup Nang Ma, Dao Reurng will encompass the quirky, funny and adorable aspect of countryside comedy, but with a different flare. Things are much more abrasive, a tad more dangerous and all the more torturous for our pr’ek Por Thrisadee. He plays Jin, a newly enthusiastic, inexperienced Deputy (Bpalat) from Bangkok who gets stationed in the countryside. This particular village is a tough gig,…

“Phu Yai Lee Gup Nang Ma”- Headman Lee and Ms. Ma

lovefia

Posted on January 2, 2013

In the summer of 2009, Ploy Chermarn and Por Thrisadee embarked on a fun, kick off your high heels, dig your feet in the buffalo’s mud romantic comedy lakorn entitled “Phu Yai Lee Gup Nang Ma” (Headman Lee and Ms. Ma) produced by Mam Thitima of No Problem Production. Inside this Channel 3 drama, we have a country boy meets city girl, Lady and the proverbial Tramp type plot. Despite the atypical, overly done up storyline used in many lakorns, “Headman Lee and Ms. Ma” manages to stay authentically upcountry- thanks to Por Thrisadee’s fine Suphan accent- and endear us with a very cute drama with staying power. Ploy Chermarn portrays Malinee, a supermodel (as she likes to call it) who was raised in…
