Jaipisut- A Review

lovefia

Posted on September 5, 2024

A schoolteacher and a rake. Just those two characters would be enough to make me want to watch this, because who doesn’t love a playboy giving up his wild ways to commit to one person? And a prim and proper schoolteacher to boot. Plus, the bonus of his being her childhood enemy. Unfortunately for me, “Jaipisut,” the third installment of “Heart of Dhewaprom,” fell flat in the romantic storytelling and acting.

Kwanreuthai – A Review

lovefia

Posted on August 30, 2024

The title Kwanreuthai sounds like a romantic name from the 70s, similar to the other titles of Heart of Dhewaprom: Laorchan, Jaiphisut, Dujupsorn, Poncheewan. However, Kwanreuthai is like music to my ears. Kwanreuthai can also mean a gift, like the word kwan, but our heroine feels the opposite. She believes that her birth only brought misfortune to her mother, Marathee, who has resettled in the northern province of Thailand, Chiang Rai, hiding her noble identity from her daughter and everyone around her. Unbeknownst to Kwanreuthai, she and her stepbrother grew up taking care of their mother after their father passed away and running a food stall/food delivery business to ensure that their mother lived a relatively comfortable life.

It is Dhewaprom’s Time to Shine

lovefia

Posted on July 28, 2024

Thirty years later a promise between two ancestors finally gets fulfilled. We watched five legendary Juthathep gentlemen choose their own bride and made a villain out of the Dhewaproms, but now, guess who got the glow up. The second generation Dhewaproms are heroes in their own story.

Ratree Luang “Love and Deception” – A Review

lovefia

Posted on September 30, 2022

Ratree Luang, also known as Love and Deception, is a lakorn that knows how to tell a good story. I mean, much of what makes a good show is that we are watching it at the right time for us. I appreciate the story more upon watching it in one fell swoop, instead of catching it live, because it resonated more deeply. The script is based on a novel called Mon Kammathep, which means Cupid’s Spell, which in all honestly, would have been another apt title for this lakorn. Novel adaptations are one of my favorite genres to watch because it means the story is well thought out and knows what it wants to tell us. Imagine that, there is a point to all…

As Long as the Sky has the Sun – A Review

lovefia

Posted on January 10, 2021

Trab Fah Mee Tawan – As Long as the Sky has the Sun recently completed its airing on Channel 3, by Sonix Boom Production, the same production team that brought us Thong Ake and Game Sanaeha, and in a sense, brought the combination of excellent comedic timing of Thong Ake and the heavier drama aspect of Game Sanaeha to The Sky Has the Sun. As a result, this show is well-paced and well-scripted, with a great directorial hand. Don’t let the English title fool you, “My Forever Sunshine” is anything but a fluffy show, it’s a show about mistakes, loss, finding happiness, and the all-encompassing love (whether that is love directed to a person or self-love).

Nine Naphat as Mr. Arrogant

lovefia

Posted on December 28, 2020

“Spark Heart Mr. Arrogant” (Spark Jai Nai Jomying) is a bite sized lakorn that follows the story of Sun (Nine Naphat), a travel youtuber on a mission to improve his viewership ratings. Once a popular influencer, Sun turned away some of his avid fans into anti fans due to his attitude. No one actually knows (outside of his two best friends) that his special ability – the ability to hear people’s thoughts – forces him to shut himself out to the world. As a result, people on the internet coined him Mr. Arrogant and roots for him to fail. As far as Peat (Moss Witsarut)/Sun’s manager and best friend, Dam (Tae Darvid), is concerned, they are going to try their best to do an…

Part 2 Review of “Sampatan Huajai”: City Dwelling – its Complicated

lovefia

Posted on January 15, 2019

The second half of the story follows Rattawan, as she steels her spine to determine who wants her dead. She doesn’t have a lot of enemies so the likeliest culprit is her husband, though Nai Hua – whom we will now call Naboon since we’re in the city – encourages her not to make any false accusations without proper evidence. Naboon assigns his trusted friend, and Navy Captain, along with his watchmen to oversee her safety. Captain Patai signed up because he believes that her husband is responsible for his sister’s disappearance, since she was one of his mistresses. Meanwhile Naboon sets out to play Phuket’s bad boy to lure the human traffickers and those associated with Rattawan’s attempted murder to the forefront. It…

Part 1 Review of “Sampatan Huajai”: Island Stint

lovefia

Posted on January 8, 2019

“Sampatan Huajai,” also known as “Concession of Love” takes us into a new foray within the world of lucrative Birds Nest Trade, along with a high rolling hotel business world. Our hero, Naboon (Weir Sukullawat) owns Tham Island, the furthermost island on the Andaman Sea, off the coast of Phuket, where swiftlets (birdies) inhabit within its limestone caves. Naboon is called “Nai Hua” when he is on the island, directing the harvesting of the birds’ nest, so we will use his name and title interchangeably. This story opens during the second harvest of birds’ nest along the cavern walls, where birds nest climbers spend all day extracting white nests – made entirely by a bird’s saliva. It’s a fascinating, profitable trade, but also very…

“Hi-so Sa Orn” Review – An Evening Lakorn That Gives You All the Feels

lovefia

Posted on December 28, 2018

In the recently completed Channel 7 evening lakorn, “Hi-so Sa Orn,” the show tells the story of a high society heroine by the name of Mayrisa (Maggi Apa) who hasn’t always grown up hi-so; who must prove herself to stay on her grandmother’s inheritance, but at the end of the day, who must decide what truly matters. It paints a realistic picture that being hi-so is not easy to come by, and once in this small, exclusive circle, it’s hard to remember what life was like before. Until your belief is challenged, until your small world is shaken by an outsider.
