Prom Likit (Love Destiny 2) is Finally Here

lovefia

Posted on October 18, 2023

Episode one feels like a gift/warm hug to the long awaited Buppaesaniwas fans, as we reunite with our favorite Ayutthaya household in Prom Likit. The time traveling history buff that is Karaked, her foreign ministry official husband, Dech, and the vast quarters of servants who do not bat an eye at their mistress’ beguiling ways. The opening scene pans to what makes this show charming in the first place, we are transported to Ayutthaya era, the soft dewy morning, the quiet night lit up by soft flame. Buppaesaniwas did it so well, and Prom Likit, its sequel, is equally stunning in its authenticity.

James Ji and Toey in “Matalada”

lovefia

Posted on June 9, 2023

We all need a little Matalada in our lives, a face full of smiles for gay dads, sad doctors, and stray dogs. A smile that warms you from within, Matalada is love personified. She gives away free smiles and wants nothing back, well maybe a slice of cake.  If you have not seen Matalada, or To the Moon and Back, a lakorn starring James Ji and Toey Charinporn, as Heart Doctor Purim (or Penneung) and Matalada (or Mata), you are in for a delightful slice of life lakorn foray. It is not all about rainbows and butterflies as I seem to be depicting, but amidst the pain and trauma, there is an uplifting message of acts of kindness and the journey to healing.

The Nostalgia that is Ken and Anne

lovefia

Posted on September 15, 2022

The premiere episode of Suptar 2550 (Superstar 2007) is nostalgic and warm and so much fun. The biggest draw is obviously revisiting one of Channel 3’s favorite (old) pairing, the dynamic duo Ken and Anne. This lakorn is spearheaded by Citizen Kane Production, and directed by the actor himself, Ken Theeradeth, who also had a hand in writing. Suptar 2550 presents the parallel between real-life director/actor Ken and producer/actress Anne Thongprasom who plays Ryu and Kat respectively, who are also former onscreen pairing that are casted together again (after many years) in a show called Suptar 2550. The fact that this is like a fan’s dream come true, that their favorite pairing in their favorite shows get to end up together in real life.…

Mario and Yaya in Keu Ter – Bad Romeo

lovefia

Posted on July 24, 2022

The long awaited lakorn, Keu Ter (It’s You) or Bad Romeo is finally here. It has been three years since we have seen either Mario Maurer or Yaya Urassaya on the small screen. In fact, since Klin Kasalong and Thongake in 2019. Both have been gracing the big screen and knocking it out of the park. They are back to a more intimate setting, opening our eyes and heart to the struggles of Saikhim, the heir of a hotelier and Kaokla, a small garage shop owner from the poor side of town. Helmed by Thong Entertainment (Anne Thongrasom), and directed by Aew Ampaiporn, who has brought us many exceptional dramas, Keu Ter is a melodrama about two people whose paths crossed and forever changed…

Intro to Fah Piang Din

lovefia

Posted on July 12, 2022

The title of this show, Sky’s Only Land or Fah Piang Din, speaks to the sentiment of this story quite beautifully. There is a scene in the intro with a child who marvels at the beautiful sun. But her father, the general who has officially been given permission to return home, laments that although the sun is beautiful, at the end of the day it eventually sets back to earth. The same can be said about people, no matter how high and mighty we are, we ultimately return to dirt. That is such a humbling point, one we see the story continues to make as it progresses.

Mik Playing Twins in Divided Heart

lovefia

Posted on June 29, 2022

Channel 7’s latest weekend installment, Divided Heart or Sai Luerd Song Hua Jai, has Mik Thongraya playing twins Jay and Joe who could not be more different. We open with Jay, who works in the police forensics and he discovers his father dead at a car accident scene. Based on the evidence, he deems it a suicide. Joe is also notified but Jay doesn’t think he appears sad or disheartened since Jay has a falling out with dad, whom he believed to have caused his mother’s death (she also committed suicide), by cheating on her with her sister. Family drama, anyone? Though even with both parents gone now, the J’s cannot see eye to eye, because the biggest sibling rivalry in their book is…

Koo Wen – My Friend, The Enemy – First Impressions

lovefia

Posted on June 10, 2022

Unprecedented. That is one word to describe the newest primetime lakorn, Koo Wen, starring Pon Nawasch, Pat Patricia and Mo Monchanok, as three newbie lawyers fighting to join a top law firm. The most attractive part about this show, aside from the very attractive actors – the eye candy brought me here – it is the refreshing story that has me tuning in for more. Ready or not, Good Feeling Production is going to throw us in for a loop.

All I need is love and a cup of coffee

lovefia

Posted on June 1, 2022

I came for Bua, but I stayed for Khunkhao. Who is Khunkhao, pray tell? The pra’ek pictured above. Simply put, I love the way he looks at the nang’ek, as if she is the prettiest girl he has seen, as if she baffles him but at times surprises him with her perception. I call this a budding romance. This daily lakorn, Om Fah Ohb Din, does so many things well, it is poignant and often funny, but more importantly, it gives us a much-needed Thai gentleman, and a romance show worth pursuing. It is what I have been missing in lakorns these days.

Krong Nampueng (Sweet Prison) – First Impressions

lovefia

Posted on April 22, 2022

Krong Nampueng would win a challenge called “You Know You Are Watching a Lakorn” if there were one. But Weir as Chalompol (aka Pon) is actually the perfect fit because he makes all of the tropes so believable with just one look in his eyes. In fact, when he is on screen it is very hard to look away, you may fall into the depths of those brown, soulful eyes, just as the female lead does, Prapye Ramida as Sai Nampueng. The title is a play on her name, sweet prison, or imprisoned by Nampueng, however you decipher it, Pon is going to be at the mercy of Nampueng.

Jao Sao Jamloey – First Impressions

lovefia

Posted on February 17, 2022

I mean, it’s just the first episode, Fia, don’t get your hopes up so high. Chill, girl. These are some of the things I tell myself as I am sucked into this story full of visually stunning cinematography and rich characters. Jao Sao Jamloey, or Prisoner Bride, premiered this week on Channel 7 and I may or may not be a teeny bit excited after the first episode Ingjan (Hana Lewis) is in trouble. An aristocrat by birth, Ingjan is left with a palace and jewelry business to safeguard. Unfortunately, Aunt has squandered all of the wealth and corners Ingjan to save the inheritance by marrying the loan shark. Ingjan refuses, as she has her principles, so Aunt colludes with the loan shark to…
