After creating “Chronicle of Lakorns” subpage, I got to thinking, what upcoming lakorns has everyone in a snit? In reviewing the long list and discussion at AsianFuse– in which I really need to sign up because they seem to be having a lot of fun- I found myself neither enthusiastic nor unenthusiastic about the upcoming lakorns. What does that say about the new lakorns? Better yet, what does that say about me? (Although I must say I do enjoy watching the 4+1 Ch3 superstars together, severe cuteness and drool worthy.)
I try not to hype myself up with upcoming lakorns because I like the surprising factor, I was pleasantly surprised by Miracle of Love and Evil Game Love Game. And I’m not sure I would like them as much if I set high expectations, in a way setting myself up for failure. Having said that, a good lakorn, despite being hyped up, should remain wonderful if it has a good story and charismatic actors, right? Here are some upcoming lakorns (see full list on AF)
- Rak Ork Akard (Cherry and Om Akapan)
- Rak Kon Tao Fah (Chompoo Araya and Ken Theeradeth)
- Tawan Yord Rak (First and Jackie)
- Sixth Sense
- Chuay Duay Krap Pom Rak Look Sao Jao Por (Dan Worawech)
As I scan the list of upcoming lakorns, with a blazing bullet point constantly flickering before my eyes, I noticed the remakes. This is a sore point with me. I didn’t take a 10+ yr break from watching lakorns to come back and watch the old ones again- only with new actors!
- Torranee Nee Krai Krong (Yadech)
- Rak Gert Nai Talad Sode (Mario Maurer and Margie)
- Rak Prakasit (Por Nattawat and Aff)
- Ban Sai Thong (they’re still working it out)
- 3 Num Nua Thong (Boy Pakorn, Mark Prin)
- Song Naree
- Kom Payabat
- Taan Chai Gum Ma Lor
- Prissana
- Tawan Tor Saeng (Dome + Mai)
- Maya Rasmee
- Rang Ngao (Pope Thanawat)
And the list goes on and on….
I understand that when it’s good, they want a remake. The problem lies in whether the remake can live up to the old lakorns or leave them in the dust. There are some outstanding ones like Sawan Biang and JumLoey Rak. Then there are some that leaves us missing the old ones even more.
In 2011, we have 5 remakes thus far (Tawipob, Wanalee, Ka Kong Kon, Kehas See Dang, Roy Marn), what will 2012 bring us? What remakes are you looking forward to? What upcoming lakorns in general are you awaiting?
As for me, I’m looking for a good story with good chemistry. I suppose I shall give the upcoming lakorns and remakes a chance, ultimately to see which will be promoted to endless blogging or which will be relegated to the wayside.
I didn’t know Ka Kong Kon and Kehas See Dang were remakes. I’ve only seen those two out of the five you listed but neither felt like ‘classic lakorn’ material. I wonder if it’s because the scriptwriters/directors didn’t do a good job of adapting the story? (psst, and am I the only who didn’t think highly of KKK?)
I love chrysanthemum tea! 😀
Haah I recall reading your posts regarding KKK, and it being the culprit for steering you away from Ch7 lakorns. To be honest, I only liked it mainly for the chemistry, I don’t care too much for the storyline. I liked the old one better.
I’m currently crazy about chrysanthemum tea!
Work still busy? TGIF tomorrow!
Indeed, TGIF. I’ve been putting in 10 to 12 hours at work it’s crazy. x___x
Speaking of KKK, I just watched Bird Thongchai’s MV for Why the Tears starring Pong and I must say he looks great in suits! He really does have a meanie p’ek face. lol
I thought Pong was hot in that video!
By the by, out of the 5 remakes, I’ve only seen KKK and Wanalee (which I stopped midway because the n’ek was painful to watch.)
As for Tawipob (mixed reviews), Roy Marn (I heard it was well received) as for Kehas See Dang, I’m wondering why I haven’t seen it yet. I’m a fan of Andrew’s.. not sure how I feel about Min though as right now I don’t really care for her character in GRGR. (I’ll go search your old posts for KSD)
All in all, the remakes this year hasn’t convinced me that we should do more remakes- I’m a little perturbed at the looong list! Especially with the actors I tend to follow, I really don’t want to be dragged into this.. I mean no one’s going to pull me by the arm lol, but I wish they would be more creative and choose new stories!
They’re going to make another Tawan Tor Saeng?! They just came out with one from Ch7 before….
Yes.. looks like it’s going to be Dome + Mai Davika. I remembered Kob and Pete’s version and liked it. I’m not sure if Dome can pull off the intense “Pete” since Dome only had to be a cold and stiff Vampire in Love Never Dies.. This will definitely put his acting skills to the test.
But my sentiments with remakes still stand.. don’t remake it if you don’t think you can outdo the old version! But I am now curious how Dome will play a human role heeh.
re: Pong. Yea, while watching the MV I was like, uhm, I’d take him over P’Bird. Haaa.
I didn’t write much about KSD on my blog (I wrote about more about it in my journal. yes, I actually still keep a physical journal when I feel like doing some ‘real’ writing!) but my main issues with it were 1) the main couple taking one step forward two steps back and the n’ek often not making sense 2) too much time wasted on irrelevant people. I did like the look of the lakorn though and collected quite some pics to post but never did get around to it.
okie, back to clearing work after a short break. Sat, come quick!!
I know what you mean by keeping a real journal, there are times you want to write about things that you don’t necessarily want on your drama blog.
KSD doesn’t sound too appealing to watch, now that I have a lot of old dramas that aired this year to catch up with (still watching Tawan Duerd and still heart it to pieces) as well as watching the current ones.
Take care of yourself! I soo want to go to Singapore in December, there’s a big end of year sale right? My friends are beckoning me to go.. but I plan on visiting the states for Christmas. Hope you have a good Friday night gal!
Hehehe, I’m currently looking forward to Rak Ork Akard! As for remakes, I’m excited for Torranee Nee Nee Krai Kong as it will continue to feed my Yadech appetite! Bansaithong has been forever my favorite lakorn, so while I’m nervous about who they’re going to cast and how they might not live up to my expectations, I actually do really want to see how the new version will turn out, just because I love the story so much! 3NNT, what can I say, eye candy lol along with new pairings that I find very cute actually. I also really liked the Num and Ning version of Rak Prakasit, therefore, that one’s on my list, and as for RKNTS, I’m simply a fan of both Mario and Margie and will probably tune in for them. Oh! And same with Tawan Tor Saeng, I really like n’Mai! wow, that’s the majority of the list, gosh. I’m going to be busy busy busy! Hope I’ll have Fia as company!
Hi jjinxx!
I did not realize that TNNKK with Yadech is a remake, who’s in the original version? I’ll have to move that to the “remakes” list. To be honest I have not seen Bansaithong ever and I’ve heard good things about it- but rumors has it that Pong may take the role- so I’m a little concerned. And if it’s Ch.7 doing the remake, that may make it very dramatic. Like you, I also like Num and Ning’s Rak Prakasit! I want to see Aff and Por Nattawat together, but not in a remake, golly. I also like Andrew Gregson’s version in RKNTS and it feels so recent that the Mario version is going to throw me off. But you know how I feel about Mario in PT so I may give it a shot. Heck, being the lakorn nut that I am, I probably will give all of them a shot haah. Hopefully we will not be disappointed. Indeed, it will be a busy year.
What have you been up to these days? GRGR’s episode yesterday was so cute and I’m looking forward to today’s intense episode!
So glad that you still drop by occasionally 🙂
xoxo
I’m beckoning too! Come to Singapore and enjoy the Christmas lights! They are already up on Orchard Road. heehee.
Yea, you don’t have to worry much about missing KSD, it’s not a horrible lakorn by any means, but not too fascinating either. I figured I fast foward up to 60% of each episode when watching. -_-
Oh how I miss festive lights and decorations, J. The holidays always make me homesick and nostalgic, not to mention overly emotional when I hear even Justin Bieber’s “Under the Mistletoe” Christmas rendition on channel V. Thanksgiving is next week, one of the biggest holiday observed in the US. And I just miss everything about it, the family gathering, food, noise and even the cold weather. I gather even the Four Seasons buffet spread is not going to ease the misery, well maybe just a little, it is by the renowned chef Sumanth Das. If only my host country will join the jolly festivities.
How’s your Saturday? I know it’s almost over…
I had a great day! Went for high tea and movie with my friends, and not a single thought about work. 😀 Hope your weekend is going great too.
Yay no thought sbout work 🙂
Mine is going great, went to a go away party for a friend in the afternoon, did some shopping afterward and finally made it back home in time for GRGR. High tea?! Honestly Singapore has one of the best ones.. you can stall and have high tea for hours.. heeh. Tomorrow I’m looking forward to coffee, massage and a cap to GRGR.
Fia, TNNKK was a lakorn of Andrew G. and Pok P. It was quite cute! Oh, these days it’s the same old, same old for me, back and forth between school and lakorn lol. And much to my displeasure, it has started snowing hardcore! However, I have a trip to Southeast Asia to look forward to around Christmas! Oh, I wanted to ask whether you know the storyline of Tawan Tor Saeng. I have to agree that I’m a bit concerned about ch.7 and possibly Pong remaking BST. But for the sake of loving it so much, I shall endure hehehe.
Wow another Andrew G’s lakorn they’re remaking? I don’t believe I’ve seen that version. I guess it will be new to me once Yadech’s version airs, heeh. Tawan Tor Saeng is quite the dramatic lakorn but Kob and Pete has intense chemistry. However, it is one of those lakorns I can watch only once.. here is the synopsis. As for BST, I’m going to wait to hear the feedback before I watch, should it fall on Pong’s lap. I haven’t seen any of his lakorns following KKK…
Ah.. I don’t miss the snow 🙂 I do miss the festivities though.. you’re flying to SE Asia around Christmas, I’m flying out! But will be heading back again shortly, as SE Asia is now my home.
Thanks! I’m not confident in Dome’s acting, but I admire Mai’s acting so…I dunno if they cancel out or not lol. No, I will watch TTS because I’ve heard good things about it, though people have said it’s sad?
Just in case anyone is wondering.. I searched youtube and discovered that the following subbers will be subbing the following upcoming lakorns:
3 Num Neua Thong- Chtite0Aya
Ruk Khun Tao Fah and Qi Pao- Anonymousblue
Ruk Ork Akard- KudaLakorn
Torranee Ni Nee Krai Krong- Wishboniko
fia, u missing out, i’ve been with AF/sarnworld since…hmmm…like 2004/5? sign up! sign up!
I know, I should! It looks like fun =)
Yea I don’t know what to make of remakes on lakorns that were first aired in the 90s. I watched Wanida back in the 90s and enjoyed the 2010 remake with Aff and Tik. I saw Sawan Biang 2008 and loved it. Never saw the original version of it though. I knew there was Wanalee and Tawee Pohp remakes, but the ones with Saranyu were good. Why fix something that’s not broken? Hrm..
I agree that it boils down to the pairing and the chemistry between the pair. If the teaser doesn’t interest me, I won’t bother watching it whether it’s a remake or not.
Ne- That is a good way of deciding whether a lakorn is worthy of your time.
I really like the old Wanida, Wanalee and Taweepob. Sawan biang is one of the better remakes. Most likely I’ll probably tune in to these upcoming Lakorns anyway just to see if ep 1 will catch my attention. I’ll of course be sure to share my perspectives =)
That is pure lakorn dedication, Fia. I love it!! Lol I’ll have to tune into your initial thought postings to see if it’s worth checking out. 😉
But yea! Sawan Biang 2008 remake is awesome. I’ve watched it twice. The only other lakorns I’ve watched more than once are Oum Rak, Sapai Loogk Toong, and Kaew Tah Pee. I lean more towards romcom lakorns over dramatic lakorns.
I liked both versions of Wanida. Tik is hot and I enjoy his acting skills. I’m glad to see there is more male eye candy for the ladies to enjoy in today’s lakorns compared to the 90s lakorns where the only hot guy was the pra’ek and the costars were average looking.
@Ne, haah so true! Times have changed, and so has the pr’eks good looks. It gets better with age, like wine. I’m not complaining about their acting either. Pretty happy with the new lineups, and like you say, even the supporting characters are attractive. Makes the lakorns more appealing, I’ll say.
I just started watching lakorns, so remake or not..they are all new for me.. Looking forward for TNNKK (Nadech and Yaya)!! Do join Asianfuse..it’s so fun to spazz there.. 😀
love, suzsuz
I’m looking forward to TNNKK too, I am a sucker for Yadech.
The only thing I’m afraid about Asianfuse is that I may spazz so much there and have nothing to blog about here, lol. I don’t like being redundant. It’s nice to read what others have to say though =)
I’d like to know when is the date of Torranee Ni Nee Krai Krong be on air on the Thai channel 3?I don’t want to miss the first part of it!
Hi there! The specific air date is still ‘up in the air.’ We’re looking at a possible May start date.. I will post a reminder when the time draws near =)
