James Ji and Toey in “Matalada”

lovefia

Posted on June 9, 2023

We all need a little Matalada in our lives, a face full of smiles for gay dads, sad doctors, and stray dogs. A smile that warms you from within, Matalada is love personified. She gives away free smiles and wants nothing back, well maybe a slice of cake.  If you have not seen Matalada, or To the Moon and Back, a lakorn starring James Ji and Toey Charinporn, as Heart Doctor Purim (or Penneung) and Matalada (or Mata), you are in for a delightful slice of life lakorn foray. It is not all about rainbows and butterflies as I seem to be depicting, but amidst the pain and trauma, there is an uplifting message of acts of kindness and the journey to healing.

Posted on July 6, 2022

A new Monday-Tuesday Channel 3 lakorn has aired and it is full of drama! Produced by Good Feeling Production – who has really been into showcasing reality-based relationships – and starring James Jirayu and Gina Salas, gives us a story with some heavy topics. We are talking depression, drunk driving, vehicular manslaughter, jail sentence, miscarriage, just to name a few. The premise of the story is that Ohm Apipan (James) drunk drives and causes the death of Jay’s (Gina) fiancé, he gets sentenced to 5 years in prison, but the twist is that he is taking the fall for his pregnant girlfriend who had been driving at the time.

Karat Rak (Carat’s Love) – First Thoughts

lovefia

Posted on November 21, 2021

Karat Rak aired this weekend – I caught the first episode during Nanowrimo no less (will this add to my 50K word goal?) but I had to take a detour with Anne Thongprasom and James Jirayu who plays the leads in this show. Yes, my forever nang ek (female lead) pairing up with her junior! I had to tune in and grab my popcorn. Typical Sunday night fashion of experiencing a new show for the first time, forget the notepads and dual monitors. I wondered if this pairing would work! Will James character call her P’Karat? Why is this idea so exciting? And after watching the first episode, I like where this story is going. It is FUNNY, adorable and holds a good balance…

Asa: The “Unfavorite” Third Child

Posted on September 13, 2020

Hello everyone! I hope that everyone is healthy and staying sane. Many of us are facing difficulties due to the Covid-19 situation, and I figured that this is the best time for all of us to have a long relaxing walk in a lavender field so here we are with Asa Lavender, as the Thai audience have called him since watching the Lakorn. “Walking in a Lavender Field” is an expression in Thai that means having a relaxing time, and indeed, there is nothing more calming and joyful than watching Asa, brought to life by no other than James Jirayu, on screen.

Posted on April 26, 2020

Hello everyone! I suppose many of you are quarantined at home – I know I am. Hope that this summary/review finds you well. It’s been a roller coaster ride, though I am not sure if watching it during these chaotic times made it more apt or just made things (more) stressful, but all I can say is that overall, I found this lakorn to be a masterpiece. Whether I like it or not, that’s another point, which I will discuss later on in this review.

I’m pretty sure many of you are working from home right now because of the threat of COVID-19. Incidentally, the theme of TV Scene’s latest lakorn, Leh Bun Pa Kal is somehow…

Double Espresso Coffee Talk: “Asee: The Favorite Youngest Child” by Greta

Posted on February 23, 2020

Hello folks! Here I am again for the long overdue segment of our Double Espresso Coffee Talk for Krong Karm (“Repercussion”). Though I’ve been away for so long, don’t worry if you’re thinking that you’ve missed Asa’s part. The truth is that I realized that if I don’t do Asee’s before Asa’s part, I might end up not doing his part at all. So now here we are.

Double Espresso Coffee Talk: “Atong: The Obedient Middle Child” by Greta

Posted on January 10, 2020

Hello folks! We’re here again for another double espresso coffee talk, for Krong Karm (“Cage of Karma”), otherwise known by its English title, “Repercussion”. Again, I thank P’Fia for allowing me to write this piece for her blog even before I finish Nueng Dao Fah Diew (I promise to go back to that soon!) Krong Karm or Repercussion was a finalist in the Asian Academy Creative Awards for Best Drama of 2019. For those who are curious as to why it got nominated, I hope this Double Espresso Coffee talk would not only keep you awake but likewise let you have a glimpse of the lakorn.

Double Espresso Coffee Talk: “Chai: The Blessed Eldest Child” by Greta

Posted on December 1, 2019

Hello folks! Today, I’m putting the Nueng Dao Fah Diew Coffee talk on hold in order to discuss Krong Karm (“Cage of Karma”) which is currently marketed through it’s international title “Repercussions”. Krong Karm is Thailand’s entry for the title of Best Drama Series of 2019 at the Asian Academy Creative Awards, which shall be held on December 6 at Singapore. As I’ve said before, Krong Karm isn’t your typical drama and it is indeed worth a watch. Hopefully with this review, I could help those who have watched it, and those who are yet to watch it, appreciate it and realize why it has been nominated for a prestigious award in the first place.

Posted on August 13, 2019

Hello everybody! Sorry again for the delay. Actually, we’re nearing the tear-jerking episode of Nueng Dao Fah Diew (One Land, One Sky) and that’s partly the reason why I’ve been really slow with this. But don’t worry, let’s stick together and see the tears through! Without further ado, I give you, Episode 9. (Episode 10-11 in the reuploaded version)
