The three previous sweet installments of Supaburoot Juthathep series paved their way for Khun Chai Ratchanon, a romantic adventure lakorn centering on the fourth Aristocratic brother, Mom Rajawong Ratchanon Juthathep (aka Khun Chai Lek), a civil engineer who opts to station in Nong Khai to avoid matrimony with Sineenuch. He is second to the last chance that his noble grandmother could fulfill her son’s sacred promise to his friend. This time around she is more determined to see it through, and thus evoking a higher stake (and much desperation) for this story.
But Khun Chai Lek is a man who prefers to create his own path in life, thank you very much. Even though he is an easy going, flirtatious (the notorious rake) and goofy to boot, Khun Chai Lek doesn’t believe that any woman could capture his heart. Until fate and his excursion through the mystical forest of the Northeastern Province brings him toe to toe with a feisty, strong willed, slip of a woman named Soifah, and he is a goner.
Towering at 6’2, Tanin “Bomb” Manoosilp plays Khun Chai Ratchanon, his debut drama alongside skilled actress Taew Nataporn as Soifah. In this Act Art production, we are given a meatier plot, an adventurous undertaking, and a different love story than the previous Juthatheps. One must stay alert, do not blink, because you don’t want to miss the connection between the various subplots and characters. In essence, we are given a new playing field, one that allows this lakorn to be anything but boring.
The onset of the drama brings us to the heart of the matter. This is the time of serious upheaval in Wieng Phu Kam, a neighboring country to the Northeastern province of Thailand. A king, Jao Luang Suriyawong was dethroned 18 years prior and found refuge in the mystical forest of Thailand. A spell casted by the village doctor provides a veil of cloud to protect the clan until they’ve gathered forces. A man referred to as Por Yai is the leader of the clan and they are determined to find and help the King regain his throne. Soifah is Por Yai’s daughter; she’s trained in all aspect of battle and prefers to help her father protect their village. Yet Por Yai wants her to study and be knowledgeable in the event they return to Wieng Phu Kam.
Little did Soifah know that her Por Yai is actually Jao Luang Suriyawong, who has been separated from his wife and son. During the flee from Wieng Phu Kam, Jao Luang was only able to save his daughter, while watching the queen and prince get separated from him. He has been on the lookout for them ever since. Due to this traumatic experience, Soifah has had nightmares that she never understood. (Another particular individual has had nightmares as well ever since he was little. Chatchavee, a pilot officer, and one of the Thewaproms, who is considered as inferior because of his murky background. His father is noble but his mother is rumored to be lowly, and until this day, his father hasn’t given him information to convince him otherwise, even though the older man said that his mother is a kind and good person.)
When Khun Chai Lek arrives at Nong Khai, he is fascinated by the natural resources and decides to embark on an adventure in the forest. Never short of surrounding himself with pretty ladies, Khun Chai Lek saves Jantha (the daughter of wild food booth man) from vile Wieng Phu Kam soldiers. In an effort to show their appreciation, the father decides to be his guide in the forest. Chai Lek finds Jantha as pretty as a princess and is not afraid to tell her so. Even Jantha’s past is murky as well since she is not aware who her birth parents are. On their excursion, they get accosted by Wieng Phu Kam soldiers who came back to seek revenge.
During this same time, Soifah is concerned that the veil of protection around their village is fading and keeps a very close eye on any intruders. She spies on some forest trekkers, Khun Chai Lek being the main one, to ensure they don’t have evil intentions. One day she finds Chai Lek being gunned down by Wieng Phu Kam soldiers and saved him from their wrath, as well as dragging his body from the river. Her sidekick and partner in crime, Joi, saved Jantha from the soldiers as well. Chai Lek and Jantha is taken to Walahok village to heal, where Chai Lek is revered as good and bad luck, depending on who you ask. The village heads surmise that he may be the missing crown (prince) since he is able to see through their protection veil, but that they must keep a close eye on him. Soifah on the other hand, sees him as a threat because ever since he showed up, bad things kept happening- probably in terms of her own reaction towards his proximity. Heeh.
She’s a fierce one to be sure. An untamed princess (who obviously doesn’t know she’s a princess) and meets with a noble Casanova. But in his words, he did tell her that he never deceived a woman. He has never thought that he would meet a woman who he thinks could capture his heart. Well, until he met our warrior princess, that is, who will give him a run for his money. Now who’s going to be taming whom? Furthermore, Khun Chai Lek vows to help Soifah and her village return to Wieng Phu Kam. He tells her that she risked her life to save his, and won’t hesitate to do the same.
And the village head is right, a blueblood like Khun Chai Ratchanon will be hailed by his brothers, who will open a rescue mission once they’ve learned that he has been missing. So Nong Khai, the village and those Wieng Phu Kam soldiers should be prepared and alerted when the five lions of Juthathep, along with the pilot officer Chatchavee, step foot onto their sacred grounds. There is nothing that they wouldn’t do to protect their own. Not to mention, messy love conflict because Nuch and Rampa are planning to tag along on this rescue/search mission to Nong Khai.
Khun Chai Ratchanon’s cast is filled with veteran actors, Kik Mayuree (as Chat’s step mom) when she plays bad, she’s so bad. I wanted to slap her and tell her to shut up. Off Pongpat is wonderful as always, as Por Yai. The newbies who play Jantha, Joi are natural (Jantha is as cute as a button! I think she will pair with Chat.)
But the biggest and obvious question remains, how has our main pairing fared together? Although Tanin looms over her (and just about everyone else) he is quite compatible with Taew. His goofy one liners and flirtatious attitude is needed towards such a fierce leading girl. But his all seriousness and manner in speaking (his voice) is believable. Their encounters make me laugh and despite wondering where I’m going to be led to ( in regards to their romantic story and subplots) I’m enjoying it so far. My eyebrows did raise on the cave scene where Chai Lek professes that he could see himself falling in love with her. Well. That was a little fast. At least he didn’t say that he was in love with her. It’s a start to something. It sets the stage of awareness, and we’ll get to see how Soifah deals with the attraction.
There will definitely be some angst to come. Taew is so amazing during dramatic crying scenes that I’m already sucked into her acting. When she cries, she makes you want to cry. So many questions left unanswered (the plot of redeeming the throne), many revelations awaiting (reunions) and finally, how will the two find their happily ever after? What we do know is this: it’s going to be one adventurous ride, one tumultuous courting of our gentleman to his warrior princess. There’s not much time left to savour the Supaburoot Juthathep Series. So I’ll be watching, and cheering on the rest of this wonderful five part series.
Khun Chai Lek and Wieng Poo Kam Princess, in her Northeastern, traditional attire.
A dip by the refreshing waterfall. Soifah had been spying on him and couldn’t help but stare 🙂
She’s reprimanding him for flirting with her. Heeh.
His handsome side profile.
Hey, we are a cute pair.
The civil engineer, Khun Chai Ratchanon Juthathep
Chat, Nuch, Jantha and loyal guard
The 5 Lions of Juthathep
They clean up nicely.

Thanks Fia! They do look cute together but I wasn’t hooked by episode 1 and 2. I just got back in town so I will try out episode 3. I do want to like it because I really want to support the entire series…I think all the guys and gals are doing a great job!!!
Maybe I’m just not an adventure girl?! 🙂
I’m hoping after they get married and head back to the palace I will fall in love with them as well…
I keep seeing Chai Pat but no KrongKaew…I want to see them as a married couple like Chai Rug and Ying Taew…that will def put a smile on my face!
Yea, it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the storyline and the intrigue of what’s to come is keeping me engaged 🙂 either way, I’m going to keep watching til the end, after all, there’s not much khunchais series left to enjoy, sadness. As always, thanks for your feedback Raiya!
I really like this part so far. Khun Chai Lek is so cute and funny. He keeps on calling her another name, which annoys her. Lol. I totally agree with Aof, the producer, when he said that this part will be different from the other parts. It’s going to be more interesting, and that’s true! I like it how they get to the point in episode 1. No draggy scene. His lakorns never disappoint me, that’s why I was so excited for this part.
Lol Chai Lek likes to call her by her full name, Soifah, which irritates the heck out of her because it’s too feminine, hehe.
Lol. Is it her full name? Hahah. I didn’t know. I thought it was something else because she keeps on telling him that that’s not her name and she doesn’t like it. So, she tells him not to call her that. Hahah…
I wanted to revisit your comment. As I’m watching ep 4, I realize a few things. The village knows Soi as simply Soi, but Chai Lek thinks Soifah is fitting for her because she’s like a princess to him. When much to everyone’s surprise, the elders of the village, were shocked to hear him calling her Soifah, which could mean that that’s her given name (princess name) but they never told her, since they’re keeping her status from her. It’s all a deduction at this point, which makes it all the more fun!
thanks so much Fia for this intro/summary of Khun Chai Lek’s story. I actually like this part a lot. 🙂 It’s different, it’s funny, like its straight out from some historical novels that i read when i was younger. hehe..and I am so looking forward to Soifah in Bangkok and give Grandma Oon the shock of her life… 😀
Grandma On does a lot of barking and no biting. She’s so powerless against her grand-nephews’ inevitable choices. But she has her heart in the right place and accepts her in laws eventually. Doesn’t hurt to see her fume though! I wonder what other “plans” she has up her sleeves for our fifth brother, since he’s her favorite. Always annoying to see favoritism, eh? Thanks for reading, Janis!
this is the first part of the series that im watching raw. i love taew’s accent that i can just watch her talk all day. even if the plot was to fail as long as she is talking, i honestly dont care lol i wish to see her fight for her country rather than trying to find a missing brother to get the throne back. why cant a girl do it ugh!!! this is so anti feminist lol
i find bomb acting so stiff but his smile makes up for it. my cheek literally hurts from smiling. the way chai lek flirts w her makes it harder to stop this enjoyable pain. and i find chai lek better looking in his part than the previous. i think it is the hair. janta is so adorable but seems like instead of being pair off w chat, possibly she might end up w joi. or i could be wrong, the serie probably wanted me to thinking that way. joi is such a sweetheart. such a softie when it comes down to soifah.
anyways i wonder who is really janta? the significant of the necklace? i like this a lot mainly due to all these unanswered question. i like the chai ruj and chai pat series but this is definitely my favorite one. lets see how chai pee will flare. i cant wait to see it.
between this part of the series hit the double digit in ratings. mainly thanks to chai pat but episode 2 & 3 manage to still remain in the double digit zone so i can safely say, khun chai rachanon didnt need to rely on khun chai putipat. and for the first time in a long time ch3 has beat out ch7 3 days in a row in the rating department. quite a feat for ch3 there.
Hah I don’t want to spoil you then. I do love the suspense of how all of these characters are connected, or unconnected for that matter.
Taew worked really hard adapting to her isaan accent. She sounds so natural. This reminds me of how much I liked her, even though the last couple of lakorns she played were lackluster to me. But this will def redeem her, and hopefully her second collab with Mario too. I cannot wait for that! Oh and re: anti feminism, they are in the 60’s, and only men can walk and talk at the same time. (Hehe, just being sarcastic if I may.)
Regarding Tanin, who’s 23, geez, isn’t it nice to have all of that height going for you? Tall, dark and handsome.
i wasn’t looking that much forward to Khun Chai Ratchanon but I saw the first episode and I freaking love Soi! There’s something about a strong female protagonist that just gets me so excited. I guess I like seeing the male protagonist getting man handled and shut down, especially a play boy who gets all the girls he wants!?
Chat seems like a really nice guy and his questionable background really intriguing. His mother may have been a Lady? Maybe she was a very hard working young woman that Chat father fell in love with? I can’t wait to find out!
Also I adore James Jirayu but his new hairstyle in Khun Chai Ratchanon makes him look so old~
I love reading your opinions about lakorns, very poignant and impeccable writing skills.
Hi Belle, you are too sweet. Always make me smile 🙂
I love a kick ass nang’ek. Otherwise, it would be waay too easy for Chai Lek, who draws females like bees to honey anyway. I like to see him grovel!
Hah, re: James Jirayu, in addition to his awkward hair style, what’s up with his wardrobe? He’s so much more adorable in his own show. But still, he’s my guilty pleasure!
Fia are you on Miniezmin private channel? Because Miniemin decided to close her Channel and already did. So if you are on her privert channel can you please convince her to open her channel again. PLEASE….PLEASE….PLEASE
I’m sorry I’m not on her private list. I actually don’t watch her videos but provide links in case those who are looking for english subtitles. That is unfortunate that fans can’t continue to watch with eng sub, but I can only recommend that you continue to ask her. Not sure how much I can help, since Miniezmin and I don’t exactly know each other. Good luck!
OMG OMG OMG. Your comment about Chai Pee’s friend Chatchavee is exactly what I was thinking. He has to be who I think he is! eck. How will this work out?
Thanks for this! I am super excited to see where this story will go.
I’m also sad over the loss of Miniezmin channel. I can’t understand the northern Thai dialect and I can’t read in Thai. Sucks that whoever hounded her ruined it for the rest of us. Thankfully I can understand Khun Chai’s parts and make out some words to kinda get an idea of what’s going on with Soi and her people. Can’t wait for the last series with James, back to the Thai that I understand!
Yes, I’m also sad about this. I guess we just have to patiently wait for Viki to sub for us. I shall depend on Fia’s blog for some enlightenment. Thank you Fia.
I’m going to miss her too. Miniezmin if u ever read this message thank u for the sub, and I feel disapointed that u hold thousand of us who follows u for one person action. Anyways I’m gonna miss u and since I don’t understand thai lang ill just watch the raw and watch t heir actions and patiently wait someone to sub it.
Hooray! Miniezmin has just uploaded 3 parts of Ep 3.
Hi Fia! I’m back again. I wanted to know if you were planning to recap this series? I’ve been watching it on Miniezmin’s channel but because of people constantly harassing her when will the eng subbed episode come out, she has closed her channel and I do not know if she will still be subbing it. I just finished reading your recaps for Maya Tawan (since I initially did not want to read it because I was waiting for english subs, but I think the subber has dropped the project).
Hoping you’ll recap, if not, I’ll still watch it raw and was wondering if you could answer parts I don’t fully understand? Thanks again!
does anyone know where i can find khun chai pawornruj eng sub?
your impressions and reviews, made me lose my patience to wait until the entire series was finished so i could marathon it afterwards. was lucky enough to finish khun chai tharatorn when i noticed i couldn’t find anything for khun chai ruj when i could before.
apparently the person subbing it, miniezmin, blocked everyone one and turned it into a private list. even blocked ppl messaging her so can’t even asked/invited to her private list (there’s been some issues and she went deuces).
so now i’ve got a fix to feed but there’s no supply and viki so slow! 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁
If anyone knows how to get a hold of Miniezmin please let me know. I don’t mind doing the leg work and getting the videos via her and providing it to people unless someone else is willing to do it for us but for now if any of you know her private account name if you could provide it to me and I will try to contact her. Thanks!
Can I ask you a simple question about this series? What I don’t understand is that there are two grandmothers.
‘Mom yah’ or ‘Ya aeit’ is their grandmother, while ‘ya orn’ is grandmother’s sister, so their grand aunt. She has a hand in raising them too. Hope that helps!
Yes, thank you very much. The problem is I just started the series, but then suddenly the person decided to close her channel. Eventough I’m Chinese, and I’m hooked to the series, so I have to finish it in raw. So alot things I dont understand that’s why I came on your blog and I love it 🙂
Reblogged this on zhengfeifei.
Anyway, I still hope you will consider recapping this series, Fia. I’m hopelessly in love with the series.
I love this series because it is present about two loves: Love mother land and love people, struggle for independence for homeland and for the person you love
