Romancing Ayutthaya– Buppae Sunniwas

lovefia

Posted on March 30, 2018

Three episodes left, you guys. Its tumultuous finale will air on April 11th, to be followed by 3 special episodes. I think it’s important to step back and reflect upon history and what has happened so far in our story: set in the 16th century, pitting a present day archaeology grad student among people of the Ayutthaya era. A comment from Khun Loong stood out for me, “She came because she needed to come.” What, pray tell could be her purpose in arriving in King Narai’s reign? It couldn’t possibly be to change history because our hero is a fictional character and isn’t impacted by history like Kosa Lek, Kosa Pan, Constantine Phaulkon, or the King himself and his future successors. We also know…

Buppae Sunniwat – Episode 10 Recap “I won’t break my promise”

lovefia

Posted on March 22, 2018

This week’s episodes continue the upward spiral of breaking ratings records and fanning the lakorn fever. I think what makes it even more exciting, then, let’s say a good lakorn that people watch a few years ago, is the influence of social media i.e. Twitter and Facebook. Now fans swarm Twitter with its appropriate hashtags and gone are the old ways of watching lakorns. You can fangirl with other fangirls, people even tweet pictures of their viewing parties, complete with looking the part! So it’s no surprise that the ratings skyrocketed and the lakorn is the number one trending on Twitter. But let’s not kid anyone here, the Show itself has a great story at its core, phenomenal directing, and amazing actors to bring…

More Servings of Buppae Sunniwas, Please

lovefia

Posted on March 19, 2018

Have we all survived the long weekend without Buppae Sunniwas? I know some of you are rewatching for the umpteenth time and probably has memorized all of Khun Meun’s swoony stares, his close proximity to Katesurang every chance he gets (like dude can’t get any closer and I love it) and Katesurang’s ever constant vigil of staying exactly the same, which is why I love her. She’s strong, confident, sassy, and as fearless as they come. I wouldn’t wager to say that she’s a woman of our modern time, because she’s so much more than that. Her clever rebuttal, quick wit and knowledge seeking personality has really done a number on Khun Meun, you can slowly see how she has unraveled him from the…

Buppae Sunniwas [Open Thread] 3-8

lovefia

Squeee. Episode 7 was so good, I’m so sad there weren’t more to watch. I’m falling in love with Khun Muen falling in love with Katesurang. Every time he looks at her, I die a little inside (of the happy variety!) Wow, Pope is born to play an Ayuthayan man. And Katesurang? She’s the best friend you wish you had in Ayuthaya era. You’d think a little corporal punishment may deter her from venturing out, think again. I’m opening up this thread so we can discuss Buppae Sunniwas up to tomorrow’s episode. Life isn’t permitting me to delve deeply into writing reflections on this show thus far, but I’m up to deep discussions in the comment section. Tell me your thoughts – I will…

Buppae Sunniwas – Fated Couple? Episode 2

lovefia

Posted on February 27, 2018

What is apparent as we finish up the second episode of Buppae Sunniwas is its comedic relief. As Katesurang settles into Karakate’s life and realizes that she didn’t travel in time to live a leading lady’s life, but instead possessed the body of an infamous, well hated, villain’s body, she decides she’ll take the experience as a jaunt through the history books. From the get go, this show sets its own distinction from other time travel lakorns – we are not like Tawee Pope, nor do we strive to be like them.

Time travel binge, anyone? Love Destiny & Love beyond Time

lovefia

Posted on February 22, 2018

When you go from watching nothing, to binging somethings, I can’t imagine a more fun endeavor than a time traveling premise. This topic has always been a favorite of mine, ever since Tawee Pope 1994, which is a lakorn that made sense of a woman who steps into the past through a mirror portal, where she finds her soulmate and saves the world. It’s been a story that many cannot hold a candle to, despite its best efforts and remakes. The two time travel lakorns that I’m watching simultaneously are Buppae Sunniwas (starring Pope Thanawat and Bella Ranee) and Buang Banjathorn (starring Mario Maurer and Mai Davika). My first impressions specifically speaks to two key components: does the time travel portal front make sense,…

Padiwarada- Arranged Marriage, Anyone?

lovefia

Posted on January 25, 2016

The title of this lakorn speaks to what it means to be a “model” wife in historical, olden context. Back then not only is a model wife educated and skilled in the world of home making, but she must be loyal and tend to her husband’s every wants and needs. She’s the epitome of a lady on the street and a freak in bed. Initially, I was turned off by the perception of the storyline, do I really need to see another story surrounding domestic stereotypes? Is the heroine going to be bullied because she’s expected to behave in a docile, non confrontational manner? Lo and behold, this story is NOT about that. In fact, toss those impressions out the window.

Simply Irresistible – Khun Chai Puttipat

lovefia

Posted on May 20, 2013

In hindsight, the powers that be (channel 3 elders that is) are probably kicking themselves right now. They knew that the weekend prime time lakorn, Khun Chai Puttipat, is in the hands of Paajaew, a more than capable director. They also knew that the storyline and script will appeal to the general public; it is after all based off of a book series, and had been received pretty successfully. But they had no idea that the combination of the aforementioned, along with a budding actor and his chemistry with his costar, could culminate into something so irresistible. It is too late to request an extension, too late to supply the demand. But that is one of the reasons why I like Channel 3, and…

What we need in our lives

lovefia

Posted on May 13, 2013

Maybe even in society. Khun Chai Puttipat, our latest weekend installment, is serving to remind me that in a world with bad, bad men, there are also very good men too. The gentlemen; specifically Khun Chai Mor (doctor) who inspires doctors and nurses to do their best, champions the frail and underdogs, and ultimately, always chooses to do the right thing despite how difficult the opposition. I was at first blinded by his youthful flare, but after this weekend’s episodes, I am sold. So on board this James Jirayu train, as he takes us on a journey to more than fairytale conception- because he suffers from human tendencies too- but his character brings us the hope of good men. Speaking of those human tendencies,…

Khun Chai Puttipat- First Impressions

lovefia

Posted on May 5, 2013

I love the era of the 50’s and 60’s; ballroom dancing, classical music, fancy speaking, and an air of smooth pacing where people aren’t pressed for time. It’s one of those period dramas that I don’t mind watching. Especially when The Juthathep is front and center. Who could resist the famous five gentlemen of Phra Nakhon (capital)? Khun Chai Puttipat follows the story of the third brother in the line of Momratchawong Juthatheps, who is a young, and most capable neurosurgeon in the city (perhaps even all of Thailand) since he hailed from advance medical studies in London. His passion in life is medicine and treating his patients, as well as the receptive conditions of his patients’ family. Therefore Khun Chai Pat has no…
