Episode one feels like a gift/warm hug to the long awaited Buppaesaniwas fans, as we reunite with our favorite Ayutthaya household in Prom Likit. The time traveling history buff that is Karaked, her foreign ministry official husband, Dech, and the vast quarters of servants who do not bat an eye at their mistress’ beguiling ways. The opening scene pans to what makes this show charming in the first place, we are transported to Ayutthaya era, the soft dewy morning, the quiet night lit up by soft flame. Buppaesaniwas did it so well, and Prom Likit, its sequel, is equally stunning in its authenticity.

Dech, our forever Khun P, is as delightful as ever, still very much in love with his wife even as she vexes him. I love how he says that no matter how long he has been with her, perhaps even till death do them part, he could never decipher her language. What’s more, he learns that their time difference is 329 years, but Khun P does not allow that to deter him from focusing on the present, even if the history has already been written.

Karaked is as funny as ever, completely adjusted to her new reality. She’s trying to live this new life without changing too much history, but she’ll be damned if she can’t throw in some modern language, conveniences, and knowledge to keep things interesting. Curious as always, Karaked wants to find out if history was right. One thing is for sure, history is savage. The sister and daughter of the previous king are made into wives of the new king, all male heirs of the previous king met their demise, and the king himself deposed (whether he was poisoned or not). We can never be certain on what transpired, because even the people living in that time do not know what happened.

Count Sorasak has become quite the lecherous crown prince, wanting to make “almost all of” the women his wives, including Mali, Karaked’s dear friend. Karaked does not divulge whether Count Sorasak will have his way with Mali, because she does not want her husband to risk his life by interfering with the crown prince. She reassures Khun P that while Mali may suffer, she gets her happy ending. It is nice to see that Karaked has indeed learned that she cannot prevent something from happening. Her “past” self would try to stop this, and it would inadvertently harm herself or Dech. Don’t y’all remember how Dech had to put a knife to his neck so she could stop being so reckless? Growth!

And our favorite couple do indeed grow and get older as they become parents to twin boys and now a daughter. Khun P is promoted to Marquess status and Karaked, a noble lady. As we fast forward to our new story, as we prepare for what chapter two brings, it was nice to come together and spend a little time with Khun P and Karaked.

But now I am seated and ready for a nice, long ride with Prom Likit. What type of karma entanglement are we getting with this new generation? If the chemistry between Pope and Bella is any indication, who are also playing the new generation Rit and Phuttan, we are in for another treat. My eyes have already feasted upon the stunning costumes, the gorgeous cast (the Queens are Queening!) and the fun storytelling. We are in good hands.
