Thirty years later a promise between two ancestors finally gets fulfilled. We watched five legendary Juthathep gentlemen choose their own bride and made a villain out of the Dhewaproms, but now, guess who got the glow up. The second generation Dhewaproms are heroes in their own story.

Duangjai Dhewaprom follows the story of five daughters who entangle with the famous Juthathep sons. I happened upon the final story, Poncheewan (Duangjai Dhewaprom #5), where I meet Momluang Saruj who is Khunchai Ruj’s only son! Oh, he even knows he’s got big shoes to fill. His parent’s love story is famous across the entire country. It is one of my favorite stories out of the five gentlemen because it is so dang cute. Khun Ying disguised as a commoner because she was hurt that her childhood friend did not recognize her, and that childhood friend (Khunchai Ruj) made her (and us) feel all the feels in beautiful Switzerland. Their love story was one to remember.

We are also back in Switzerland as Khun Saruj (Kao Noppakao) follows his father’s footsteps as the Secretary of the Royal Thai Embassy. His job is to ensure the wellbeing of Thai students. Thus, our dorky heroine, Poncheewan (title is named after her) is one of the students he looks after. I cannot believe the sons of Juthathep lives in the same era as us – the five lions! – in 1997. This is like watching my own kids growing up before my eyes.

Poncheewan (PP Punpreedee), or Cheewan is sponsored abroad by great-grandmother Orn (remember the grand aunt who gave Khunchai Ruj so much angst?! Oof that crying in the rain scene still gets me) and great-grandmother has a big task for Cheewan. She must do whatever it takes to matchmake Khun Saruj with Poncheewa (her cousin). I laughed that great-grandmother – the notorious matchmaker during the five lions’ days – found her own henchman to do the dirty work for her. She’s gonna make her mark even if it kills her. Cheewan is actually excited to partake as honorary Cupid.

Khun Saruj has an interesting method to keep tabs on the Thai students, when he first arrived Switzerland, he would disguise himself and snoop after them (did he take a page from mom?). But he gets caught by Cheewan in a rather embarrassing way (watch to find out what she grabbed.. hint, flashlight) and they are off to a fun start! Saruj also received great-grandmother’s letter to consider Cheewa as a love interest, but this wasn’t the Dhewaprom who tugged at his flashlight. Cheewan tries her best to get the two to talk, but she is the extravert among two introverts. I can see why Cheewa or even Saruj are drawn to sunshine Cheewan. She makes everything livelier.

Cheewan finds her opportunity to play Cupid when the bad guy Nat tries to harass Cheewa. Cheewan announces that Cheewa is dating Khun Saruj – much to everyone’s surprise. She tells Cheewa and Saruj that they can just keep up the ruse until Nat moves on to someone else. Our Cupid is super pleased with herself, not realizing where the arrow landed.

Poncheewan is written and directed by Romkaew and Good Feeling, the same team that brought us Khun Chai Pawornruj. It took us eleven years to get this sequel, riding on the successful wave that is Juthathep, that at the very core had a really nice through line of love amid social differences, gentlemen who got their reputation and notoriety for being real heroes, and strong feminine counterparts that took the stories to another level. I miss the Juthathep series, with its addicting writing, amazing acting and chemistry that spread like wildfire.

For those who have seen the entirety of Dhewaprom, how are you liking it? The fun part about watching something that you’ve followed so closely in the past, it is fun to tie the knot. I wish this second generation well, much like I wish my own kids well. The leads in this sequel sure are beautiful, aren’t they? Catch Poncheewan, currently airing on Channel 3, before the Dhewaproms conclude their final story. I like how in the picture below, only Khun Saruj and Cheewan are gazing at each other. They know it is their time to shine.
