daoreurng

If you are allergic to laughter, don’t have an affinity for slap stick comedy, or hate beautiful and natural upcountry-side, then this lakorn might not be for you.

Because Dao Reurng, our newest weekend (summer) lakorn is about to make you laugh out loud. I couldn’t stop shaking from the laughter. Maybe I’m just so easy to please. But I love a lakorn that can make me laugh, let’s see if they can make me feel too.

From Feel Good Entertainment, we have Yaya Urassaya as Dao Reurng and Por Thrisadee as Palat Jin (Jintawat.) Por mentions during Krop Krua Bun-terng (TV show) that people are calling him Jing and not Jin, the lakorn hasn’t even aired yet and people are messing up his name. LOL.

It’s probably not a good idea to recap a comedy lakorn because it is the type of lakorn that you need to watch in order to laugh, for the timely humor comes from the facial nuances, dialogue and action. It’s not funny because what they say is funny, but it’s what they also do that brings about the laughter. And I heard through the grapevine that the Wishboniko might be subbing this, but who knows..you’ll have to wait and see.

With that being said, I’m going to give it a try. Since it is a weekend drama, I will be going about this new recapping project very slowly.

Episode 1 Recap

We open with momma’s boy driving through the upcountry and talking to his momma over the phone. It’s Jintawat (Por Thrisadee), taking on a new assignment as Palat (deputy) to a rural village- so from now on we’ll refer to him as Palat Jin- and the closer he gets to the province, the bumpier the ride. Palat Jin is a native Bangkoker (city boy) so his momma worries about his simulation in the countryside. But Palat Jin lies to his momma that the road’s smooth, there’s nothing really to worry about.

Well until a mob of motorcycles speed pass him, which at first appears like a race, until someone pulls out a gun. Palat Jin slams on his break in shock and his phone slips through his fingers. Momma is left hanging. Palat follows the gang to see what’s going on when a basket of flowers obliterates his view, causing his car to go careening into the quagmire.

A thug by the name of Reurng (Yaya Urassaya) steps off her motorcycle and yells at “Ai Wan” (Kong Sorawit) for trying to shoot water at her. One of his minions blurted out that it’s hexed water, ha, clearly Ai Wan is smitten with Reurng and deeply terrified. Reurng grabs him by the collar and proceeds to choke him. Palat observes the ongoings from his car until he spots Reurng pulling out a gun. Immediately he goes for his “real” gun and steps in, trying to halt her. Ai Whan notices the real gun in Palat’s waistband and hightails out of there.

Determined to follow Ai Wan and the gang, Reurng pushes the stranger away from her. But when he realizes the gun is a water gun, he tells her to take responsibility over his truck, after all she almost killed him. But Reurng says that almost is exactly right because he’s not dead yet. When he refuses to let her go, Reurng pushes against him until he teeters before the quagmire, and she smartly kicked his behind into the water. Haha.

Reurng and Pian makes a beeline to find Ai Wan, where she would deal with his attempt to spray her with hexed water. Hexed with what you may ask, maybe a love potion? Haha.

Palat crawls out of the quagmire, completely soaked to the bone, but only to find that the door to his truck is locked. He’s stranded in the middle of a farming village, with only stretches of road to civilization without any way to call for help. Palat lets out a frustrated scream.

Screen Shot 2013-07-13 at 1.05.23 PM

Meanwhile a welcoming party is gathered at the temple anticipating for the new Palat to arrive. They’ve been waiting for a while though because the townspeople are bored, the dog is passed out and the monk is out of tea. Finally the crowd gets to their feet and demand to know whether the new Palat is coming.

Nai Umpur’s wife receives a phone call from Momma Janthra that something has happened to Palat Jin, which shocks the townspeople. They get the local authority to search the roads, and the cop discovers that Palat’s truck is present, but the man is missing. Evidence remains in his wake: a bottle of booze, courtesy of their local thug “Ai Reurng.” Looks like our tomboy has some explaining to do.

Ai Wan and his minions rush back to their safety nest, which is the village Phoo-Yai Pan’s house. They cheer at the fact that Ai Wan is able to spray a good douse of spellbinding water at Ai Reurng, and they jump for joy at the prospect that Ai Reurng will be coming to him in three days, according to the village witch doctor. Much to their chagrin, Ai Reurng is at the door, ready to pummel their faces in. The minions rescue themselves first, leaving their leader in Ai Reurng’s hands.

He tells her to go easy on him, his body is for her anyway (lol) so she can shred or mince at her heart’s content, but she must be warned that she will be as hurt as he. Little Pian questions why his P’Reurng would be hurt if she tears his heart out, and Ai Wan says it’s because he has only her in his heart (meaning she’ll end up hurting herself.) She inches closer and threatens to mince his private parts since he dares to play dirty with her, but Wan screams that she won’t need to mince his balls, he ain’t got none anyway. LOL.

Screen Shot 2013-07-13 at 2.49.15 PM Screen Shot 2013-07-13 at 2.49.09 PM

Wan races out of his room, covering his balls in case she miraculously gets a hold of them, and hides in the chicken room. Apparently only one chicken is present and it gets a room all to itself. Before she can do some damage, Phoo Yai Pan storms in telling her not to hurt his baby. At first it looks like he’s talking about Ai Wan, but he’s actually concerned about his chicken that has its special room.

Screen Shot 2013-07-13 at 2.49.51 PM Screen Shot 2013-07-13 at 2.49.37 PM

Reurng tells them to hand over Ai Wan, or else both chicken and man will become a meal. Phoo Yai’s wives back up Ai Wan (they call him Nu Wan hehehe, ‘Nu’ is used to refer to kids or girls), and Phoo Yai tells her to stop being such a thug or he will use extreme measures. He seems to know her weakness: ‘I’ll tell your momma.’ We have a thug who runs the whole village but is afraid of her mom? Buahahah.

Our resident thug seems to reconsider her next move, but the threat of her mom finding out her latest shenanigans hovers in the air, so she tells Ai Wan that she’ll let him go this time around due to his parent’s droopy face. Which irks the elders who wonder who she’s calling droopy, but Reurng says whoever is droopy can accept the name-calling. Heh.

Little Pian blurts out that Ai Wan tried to douse his P’Reurng with hexed water but one of the mom’s indicate that he doesn’t need to because Ai Wan is as handsome as Nadech (they love to make jibes regarding Yaya’s koo-kwan.) Ai Wan’s mom glares at Phoo-Yai for not defending his son, but Phoo-Yai could only pet his chicken and explain that this one is his favorite one.

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 12.38.48 AM Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 12.38.20 AM

Furious that she can’t get back at him for the moment, Reurng and Little Pian decide to punish his supplier: the infamous witch doctor, Luang Taa.

This witch doctor has the entire village eating out of his hands. We know from the contrivances and fake devil possessions that he’s taking advantage of the townspeople’s ignorance. During one of his show, an old woman pretends falls to the ground and wakes up as a possessed being. The witch doctor commences his exorcism, if you will. Yet who needs exorcism when you could have Reurng barging into your scene with her motorcycle? Heh. The old woman couldn’t have gotten up fast enough.

Reurng questions whether Luang Taa provided the hexed water to Ai Wan, and of course the older man denies it and tells her to call him properly by Luang Taa, not Long Taa. Luang Taa is still adamant that he didn’t give Ai Wan the water, which to Reurng only means that he sold it to him. Heh. Let’s just split hairs. But Reurng doesn’t force him to take responsibility because she has something else up her sleeves, one that will teach him a lesson. Luang Taa wags his finger and threatens as she roves her motorcycle out of his vicinity: that he if hadn’t used to like her momma, he wouldn’t have been so lenient; her house would have been on set on fire already.

Meanwhile back at the temple, Momma Bancheun discovers that her Reurng is up to her neck with trouble – this time allegedly kidnapping the Palat. She defends her daughter without missing a beat though. Sergeant Kaeng Moot procures a bottle of homemade alcohol as evidence that Reurng is behind this, but he softens his tone a bit because he is in love with Momma Bancheun (this is guy #2 who is in love with her) but he hates her daughter.

Momma Bancheun relents that her daughter isn’t the only person capable of producing alcohol, she proceeds to point at everyone, including the monk, who has made alcohol before. LOL. Realizing her mistake, she wai’s to the monk. But Sergeant is adamant because he remembers what Reurng’s bottles look like (she runs a food booth) and he blurts out that he has had her alcohol frequently. He quickly corrects himself that he drinks it to remember what the bottle looks like (wth! Lol)

The townspeople want to know where Reurng is at, but Nai Umpur says the better question is, where is their new Palat?

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 10.53.39 AM

The aforementioned man has hitched a ride with a kind civilian as the man drops him off at the temple. His clothes and hair has now been dried with cakey mud, he is dirty from head to toe. He walks towards a crowd of men who are congregating after unsuccessfully finding the new Palat.

As Palat Jin gets closer he overhears a townsman asking how they would find such Palat when they don’t even know what he looks like. The assistant to the Deputy quickly explains that Palat should look like a Bangkoker. (lol.) As if the townsmen would know what a Bankoker would look like, so the assistant confuses them further by saying that Palat should look similar to him but more Bangkoky. Heh.

The filthy man steps in and trie to tell them that he is the new Palat, but the assistant interrupts him that Ai Reurng has taken Palat and may have killed him in the forest. The stranger proclaims that the Palat is not yet dead, because he’s standing right here. The assistant spat that if he’s the new Palat then that makes the assistant an Umpur. Which sets off disbelief and everyone scurrying into two groups to search for Ai Reurng and then Palat.

Before Jin could stop them, a boy runs to tell them there is a fire. The whole townsfolk rush to a stilt house with smoke coming out the back. Jin steps on a sliced pumpkin and with a knowing look, he tiptoes away from the crowd.

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 10.55.15 AM Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 10.55.46 AM

It’s our troublemaker at work again, this time to punish the witch doctor for taking advantage of the people, most specifically making a love potion for her. She has just finished smoking the back of the house and tries to jump out of the window unawares, when the same man she had a run in earlier spots her.

Jin apprehends her with an arm around her neck but Little Pian frees his P’Reurng by dumping what appears to be a bucket of ash-like substance atop the stranger’s head. Now he is cloaked with dust and powder. The two scramble, with the stranger pulling at Reurng’s leg.

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 10.55.56 AM Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 10.56.05 AM

As Jin tries to follow them through the window, Sergeant calls him to freeze, gun in the air. Oh smacks. Realizing how screwed this looks, Sergeant opens a trial against this man in front of the whole crowd. Jin tells everyone to take it easy, the law should be adhered.

Luang Taa (the witch doctor) rushes into the proceedings wanting a good look at the culprit who tried to burn down his house. They ask Jin who hired him to do such a thing and Luang Taa surmises it must be Ai Reurng! Momma Bancheun steps in immediately, which causes Luang Taa to tell her that she’s beautiful but her daughter is cursed. The Sergeant lifts Jin to his feet and tries to be on eye level but the boy’s too tall so the Sergeant goes on tipsy toes. Heh.

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 11.00.04 AM Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 10.57.44 AM

“Tell this Sergeant Kaeng Moot who you are,” he asks, grasping his lapel. “What is a stranger like you doing here?!”

“I- I came here to work,” replies Jin, coughing from the ash.

“What kind of work?” the director asks.

“The ministry sent me here,” Jin answers. “I am the new deputy.”

The assistant steps in again that if Jin is the new deputy, then that makes him the Umpur, heh. The golden retriever makes a sound, as if to tell the assistant to watch his mouth.

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 10.58.16 AM

To determine the truth, the crowd follows Jin to the washbasin where he cleans out his face. Nai Umpur’s wife holds out a picture of the Palat Jin next to Jin’s face. Identical. She exclaims in happiness that he is indeed Jin- and asks him if he remembers Auntie Reudee, which Jin stoically says he remembers her from the get go. Ha.

The assistant Kamjorn and Sergeant probably wished the floors would open up and swallow them. They introduce themselves immediately and cower, brownnosing to the new deputy in town. The monk makes a sarcastic comment that he loves the people in this village!

The director mentions that if he knew it would go down like this, he would have arranged someone to pick up the Palat. Sergeant says it boils down to one person, Ai Reurng. Luang Taa hasn’t seen one good thing that Ai Reurng has done yet. Heh.

After hearing all of this talk about “Ai Reurng,” Palat Jin wants to know who this fellow is. Apparently he doesn’t know that the infamous Ai Reurng is a woman, since they all pointed at Bancheun and say it’s her kid. Reurng’s mom is just as feisty as she tells Reudee to speak nicely about her, just because her hubby is Nai Umpur, doesn’t mean she could go around calling people “nang,” which is an impolite word for lady.

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 10.59.10 AM Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 10.58.57 AM

The crowd disperses for the day and Gamnan Term mentions that it’s only Jin’s first day here and he barely survived, how would he fare in a month’s time? Apparently many in the village echo his sentiment because no Palat has lasted for very long. Jin tells the older man that he is determined to last no matter how difficult the opposition. Gamnan is not convinced as he thinks Jin is weak and doesn’t have any fighting power.

Before everyone leaves to their respective homes, the director wants to know who the hell is responsible for smoking up the house to scare them. Palat takes out a keychain to show the responsible party. Momma Bancheun takes a good look at the key chain and her eyes narrow. She will deal with the culprit herself.

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 12.40.14 PM Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 12.58.30 PM

Momma Bancheun arrives at the food booth and finds a nice stick, in which she proceeds to spank Reurng with it.

“Ow! What the heck is that for?” Reurng asks, flabbergasted, a little hurt.

“For the trouble you caused with Ai Wan and Luang Taa- and that you kidnapped the new Palat.”

“Ai Wan and Luang Taa deserved it, but I had nothing to do with the new Palat! And why would I hurt him, I’ve never seen or heard of him before.”

Little Pian steps in to defend his leader, but hightails out of there when auntie aimed her spanking stick at him.

Her mom tells her to stop causing trouble, but Reurng says that trouble comes to her first. Lol.  In which her mom advises her to try to avoid it. It would ruin her reputation to remain still though but mom reminds her that mom would be screwed and her brother would be highly disappointed should anything happen to her- like getting locked up! Reurng assures her momma that she won’t go to jail and that she will do what she can to take back what is theirs so when her brother finishes school, life would be easier for them.

Reurng knew the comforting words would distract her mom so she rushes out of there with ‘I’m going to make alcohol now!’

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 12.42.26 PM Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 12.58.07 PM

Gamjorn drops Palat Jin off at his new place of residence. Jin is still curious about this notorious Ai Reurng and he learns from Gamjorn that Ai Reurng is indeed powerful, even the local authorities are afraid of it (he uses the word “man” which means ‘it,’ making the gender of Ai Reurng even more ambiguous.) Gamjorn says that he’s met the rogue before, but Jin says that the person he met is a kid. Gamjorn thinks he’s referring to Reurng’s sidekick Pian. His assistant tells him to be wary of the little Pian too because he’s a pain in the ass. Heh.

After cleaning up nicely, Gamjorn takes Palat Jin to a phone booth in town. Jin knows he could not have a good shuteye until he checks in with his momma. But on their way there, Gamjorn’s jeep breaks down forcing Palat to walk the rest of the way there.

Reurng happens to need to utilize the public phone as well to call her brother, and she spots a man walking towards the phone. Immediately, she rushes over, squeezing herself in first.

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 12.43.18 PM Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 12.43.51 PM

“Hey!” Palat says, and recognizes her face, “Pian.”

“Who’s Pian?” Reurng asks, the phone in her hands.

“You are Pian- which you’ve been taking up too much of my time already. Just give me a few moments alone. Step away.”

“No.”

“I have an urgent call to make to Bangkok.”

She repeats after him, needing to call Bangkok too.

“I came here first. You came here after. Get in line, ” Jin instructs.

“I grabbed the phone first,” Reurng admonishes. “So I get to call first. You got a problem?” Threatening him like the thug that she is.

He pulls her out of the booth and steps in, and faces her. Heh. “I came here first, hand over the phone.”

Lol, they’re like kids fighting over a favorite toy.

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 12.45.25 PM

They yank at the phone back and forth until a gunshot cracks the phone booth glass, stopping them in their tracks. They spot Gamnan Term holding his bloody shoulder and shooting back at the perpetrators. On instinct, Palat Jin pulls her into the phone booth with him.

She tries to pull away but Palat Jin says if she wants to die then she can get out. But Reurng is neither a coward nor a stranger who’s unfamiliar with the workings of the village. Reurng rushes out and uses a food cart to distract the incoming motorcycle. Once the impact occurs, she goes after Gamnan with her motorcycle. Palat could only watch on with a little awe.

He too follows the action.

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 12.57.26 PM Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 12.46.16 PM

Reurng finds Gamnan seeking cover behind a booth. She sees another incoming motorcycle and takes out her weapon. With deathly accuracy she shoots the marble right into the perpetrator’s face. He falls off his bike, but the motorcycle itself is careening closer to her. Palat spies it and rushes to pull her out of the collision. They roll on the ground together and the perpetrators get away.

Palat overheard Gamnan calling out “Ai Reurng” when she almost went down, so he hovers over the girl surprised that she is indeed the Ai Reurng.

This infuriates Reurng because now Gamnan had gotten shot for free. She pushes the man off of her.

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 12.56.15 PM Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 12.48.01 PM

“I thought Ai Reurng was a man..” Palat says

“A woman woey!” she bitches him out for being untimely and unlucky.

Gamjorn runs out of his hiding spot to warn Reurng not to be rude, she’s speaking to the new Palat.

Palat is staring at her as if saying ‘what now?’ Heh. But Reurng tells him to take care of the victim if he’s the Palat.

She takes off, her deed for the day is done.

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 12.49.22 PM

Palat Jin learns another interesting tidbit about this village: Gamnan Term getting shot after? Exchanging vapid gunfire? Ah, that’s nothing to stress over. It’s a normal Sunday occurrence, Gamnan would sometimes get chased by a car, get bombed at- it’s a traditional, everyone after Gamnan day. LOL.

Poor Palat, couldn’t comprehend this, couldn’t fathom why anyone is standing around accepting this into a tradition. Gamjorn says that will get used to it the longer he’s here. And there are many things he will also need to get used to.

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 12.50.02 PM Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 1.01.32 PM

Reurng finally gets to phone her older brother Preuk (Diw) while he’s waiting for the bus, sitting before a large poster of a pretty model.

They ask after each other, talking about their mom. Through the conversation we know that Preuk is in Bangkok studying to be a lawyer. He’s also working part time at a flower shop. Before they hang up, Preuk sends his love to their mom and we know that this sibling relationship is a close one.

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 12.51.21 PM Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 12.51.37 PM

Momma Janthra finally gets a call from her son, checking in with her. Jin animatedly explains why he couldn’t call his mom back right away, that he had gotten in a car accident and locked himself out of the truck. He lies that he was busy with the welcoming party that Nai Umpur had created for him and didn’t want to be rude. He also tells her that people in this town are very “cute” and they are all so nice, as he peers through the gunshot hole of the phone booth. Heh. Ah, white lies we tell our parents.

Jin says he will call momma during breakfast, lunch and dinner, but momma says she doesn’t need to call that frequently; she’s been getting tired of picking up the phone from someone. Apparently he and “Rut” had an argument and he hasn’t cleared it up with her yet. Girlfriend? Love interest? We shall find out. Before he hangs up, he asks his mom to do something for him.

Before Palat Jin climbs the steps to his house, Gamjorn warns him to avoid stepping on steps #2,5,9, because these steps are broken and Gamjorn hasn’t fixed it yet. Such quirky little things that make me laugh. Jin asks why he doesn’t fix it when he knows it’s broken, and Gamjorn thinks that Palat may not last very long so there is no need to fix it. Ha.

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 12.52.13 PM

Shaking his head at the madness of this town, Palat Jin stares into the night and vows that he will last in this town.

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 6.09.39 PM Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 6.09.58 PM

The following morning we learn that Preuk works for Momma Janthra’s flower shop. What a small world! He’s very diligent as well.

Jin fixes the steps himself, he’s of the mind that if you want to take care of the people, you must start with you own home first. Gamjorn smiles, thinking that Jin must be scolding him (at first Gamjorn tells Palat not to waste his sweat because he’ll only need to fall a few times before he’s used to it.) And it must be karma because Gamjorn takes his boss’ luggage up the stairs, but doesn’t realize that Palat only fixed broken step #2, not #5, where Gamjorn falls to his butt. Ha.

First task on Palat Jin’s list is to meet and get to know the townsfolk, the local people and people of authority.

At Phoo-Yai’s house, Wan and his minions look at his torn shorts. They wonder if Wan could still love Ai Reurng after what she’s done to him. Wan is still in denial that Reurng is really that harsh with him. He thinks she’s pulling on his pigtails because she secretly loves him. His minions say not to be discouraged because it’s only been two days since they sprayed her with the hexed water, she could very well fall for him as they’re speaking right now. She’s just too shy to come him. To confirm their suspicion, he receives an anonymous love letter from a lady admitting her love for him, he thinks it’s from Reurng.

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 6.12.03 PM Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 6.12.26 PM

The three rascals seek out Reurng at her food booth, confronting her with the pink note. Ai Wan tells her to stop pretending to be mean. Reurng rolls her eyes as her mom confiscated the letter, it’s not even her handwriting. They start to wonder who’s handwriting it belongs to when her mom chimes it that maybe it’s hers? Lol. Ai Wan takes the comment seriously and tells her that he is her son’s age. Reurng makes it clear to him with a poem she came up with:

Ai Wan, a bad man
He bullies dogs, he bullies his mom
A horrible being
You crazy Ai Wan!

Heh.

Reurng tells him to stop fantasizing that she would love him, if she were to choose someone; she would marry any man in town except for him. Her mom chimes in that Palat Jin isn’t too bad, she likes him. Heh. Which makes Reurng balk and say that she doesn’t want to be any man’s wife..

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 6.13.57 PM Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 6.14.19 PM

The trio retreat to find a way to make Reurng love him for real. One of his minions advises that girls love cell phones. If he could buy her one, heck, buy a couple’s phone, she would really fall for him. Trouble is, even though he’s Phoo Yai’s son, he doesn’t have any money. The minion whispers his idea to Ai Wan’s ear.

Next we find out who his secret admirer is. She’s currently paying a visit to her mother’s grave at the temple, asking to be forgiven for being shameless. But she sent the love letter anonymously so people couldn’t come back and scold her mother (even though she’s dead..)

Mer spots three men with facemasks running into the temple. Thinking they are up to no good, she follows and spies on them.

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 6.15.04 PM Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 6.15.36 PM

Meanwhile the first stop for Palat Jin is to visit the monk, to receive his blessings before starting his work in town. However after speaking to the monk, he discovers a big source of problem for this village. The monk says that people’s intentions have changed when they go to the temple now. Before people are there to cleanse and meditate, now they just want something out of the temple. We see Luang Taa next, an indication of how the people have changed: they are being taken advantaged of.

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 6.15.20 PM Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 6.16.08 PM

We hear Reurng and Little Pian’s voice from the ground level, calling out to the townsfolk to buy their betting tickets. Luang Taa tells her to solicit elsewhere, otherwise he would tell on her. How many times do people think threatening her about her mom would actually work? Reurng announces to the townsfolk that she will no longer accept purchases of lucky numbers from Luang Taa. Heh. The people scurry out of the temple to do as she bids.

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 6.17.16 PM Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 6.17.37 PM

But trying to keep people away from Luang Taa has its consequences; Palat Jin spots them buying betting numbers (which is a source of gambling and it’s illegal.) Palat Jin requests to see the contents of the journal, which would bust her, so the two play cat and mouse for the book, until at the end Reurng bested him and escapes.

Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 6.19.06 PM Screen Shot 2013-07-14 at 6.19.15 PM

At the back of the temple, Mer runs into the trio who are stealing the temple’s generator and she screams for help. Her voice is heard from where the monk and Palat Jin are at.

One of the trio takes his facemask off and she immediately quieted, he’s her crush Ai Wan! He threatens to ignore her forever if she makes another peep. She agrees as he rushes out just in time before the monk shows up. Mer tries to cover up her mistake earlier by saying that the three men covered their faces so she couldn’t see. Then realizing that saying the number of men is telling, so she changes her story to maybe it’s two people, or one person. LOL.

The perpetrators greet Reurng some time later with a new cell phone, he says he bought it for her as a way to apologize for making her angry. Reurng refuses to accept the phone, because she believes in the principal that people always want something when they give you something. Nothing in life is free. She tosses the phone into the garbage, where Mer extracts it out with glee.

They wonder how the three heads were able to buy such expensive devices. And Reurng soon learns when the monk pays her a visit. He tells her that his generator is missing from the temple and he knows who is behind it. He believes that she is the only person who could help him at this time, because he doesn’t want to make it a big deal since they are all a tight knitted community. Reurng is pleased to do a good deed by punishing those who sinned. She smiles in anticipation.

Palat Jin’s next stop is at Phoo Yai’s house, which a crowd is already gathered to watch a cockfight. Kamjorn explains to Khun Palat that it is a type of entertainment sport for the local townsmen. Phoo Yai is the judge of the cockfight. Phoo Yai tells Palat that their village is doing well, there’ s no trouble and the people are living fashionably. He explains further that people who have the strength does farming while those who loses strength ends up selling their farms. Typically older kids go to school in Bangkok while the younger ones go to a fully subsidized school.

Khun Palat wonders how it is possible that the town does not have any troubles. Phoo Yai keeps reiterating that there are no problems, until said problem, Reurng, begs to differ. She came to Phoo Yai to report a theft. Phoo Yai tells her to report it to the Sergeant or the Palat who is sitting right there. Reurng prefers to report it to Phoo Yai who apparently has so much time on his hand that he has found his chicken 10 wives, LOL. This comment prompts Phoo Yai to have a seat.

Reurng wants to report that Ai Wan has stolen the temple’s generator. Phoo Yai refuses to accept the allegations because his son went to the city for him, so therefore he couldn’t have stolen it. Palat Jin says that if there is no evidence, they can’t make any arrest. Reurng retorts that if the law can’t punish him, then she will have karma take over. She gives Phoo Yai a forewarning that people who steal from the temple won’t live so easily.

But Palat Jin ain’t stupid. He knows that Phoo Yai has a gambling house for the cockfights. The village is invested in many illegal activities and he must find a way to develop them. Gamjorn explains that the gambling house came about unintentionally. Reurng lost a bet with Phoo Yai so she must let him continue, and she doesn’t play because she feels badly for the chickens. Khun Palat says at least she has some heart.

Reurng happens to hear his last sentence as she walks around the bend. She asks Gamjorn if he’s gossiping about her and he immediately says no, causing Khun Palat to look at him. Heh, even Gamjorn is afraid of Reurng. Khun Palat steps up and says that it’s a compliment to say she has a heart, not a gossip. Reurng tells her minion that she doesn’t want to have trouble with a stranger and proceeds to hop on her motorcycle. Khun Palat tells her that from now on, he is not a stranger to this town. Reurng surmises that he won’t last more than 7 days here. Does he wanna bet? Heh. Gamjorn sure does and whispers behind Palat’s shoulders on how much he would get back if he bets 200 baht.

Our resident thug threatens (what gall!) Khun Palat not to meddle with her affairs, otherwise she won’t guarantee his safety. Khun Palat says he doesn’t like to meddle with a woman’s affair anyway, unless that woman does something illegal. He shoots it straight with her, that if she doesn’t want him to meddle, then she needs to stay out of illegal trouble.

The war has been silently waged. Who’s going to win?

Meanwhile Ai Reurng decides to play karma for the trio who stole the temple’s generator. She set a trap for them to face buffaloes and fall into the quagmire. Then as they rush to take a bath from the horrible stench, she puts stinging nettles into their water basin, so father and the trio does not live easily, just the way that she had promised earlier. This reminds Phoo Yai and he knows who is behind this latest shenanigan.

Khun Palat realizes in this silent war, and to accomplish his task of developing the town, he needs to start with Dao Reurng. So he goes to Sergeant Kaeng Moot for some research. Sergeant is a source of information apparently, because he knows even her great great great grandparents’ names, lol. They ask him to make his story a little more succinct but Sergeant gets a call from Phoo Yai about a claim he’d like to report.

And that’s the end of our first episode!

I love that Khun Palat is calling her Dao Reurng as oppose to Reurng or even Ai Reurng. He refuses to go about this development task in the same mindset as the rest of the town. Clearly this town is regressive in many ways, ignorant in others, and they need a newly fired up, recent graduate from the academy to show them the way to a better and more improved town. But heck, I am enjoying how Dao Reurng is running the show, despite people fearing her, even the monk gives her respect and seeks out her assistance when he needs her. This goes to show that Dao Reurng does have a heart, and she has more impact with the village than anyone imagines. Perhaps by being on the same page as Dao Reurng, the two can work together to improve said village? I’m already having such a ball watching them, and it’s only the first episode!
