Getting to know you
Posted on April 26, 2012
April showers bring May flowers.
It’s an endearing term we use for Spring, one of the more pleasant of the four-seasons in North America, depending on who you ask. I love this time of the year: beginning of second quarter (if you’re in any industry that measures your performance based on quotas), end of tax season, tulips and blossoms galore, not to mention the wake of sports again. What I love most about it though, is the fact that I will be here to enjoy it. As oppose to last year, where I hijacked life in the state to live abroad in SE Asia.
You may have gleaned bits and pieces of my life through my lakorn posts but I’m still in the dark about you, the readers, fellow lakorn fans and kindred spirits. I’ve gotten the pleasure to get to know a few of you in the last year, but there are the majority of you, which surprisingly spans the globe- that I would love to know better.
Who are you?
Where are you from?
Tell me about your life.. and what you love about lakorns.
Silent readers, frequent visitors, and friends alike.. talk to me. If you have a blog or website, feel free to include as well, I love discovering new sites to explore.
College student living and attending school in USA’s Midwest practically all of my life (I was born in Thailand–not Thai though ^^). And I must say, I too love spring and the following summers. The winters here can be brutal and can drag on like a melodramatic lakorn with tight-lipped pra’nang who only confess their love at the end of hours and hours of headache and at the first drops of a rain that will bloom flowers, I am in tears of joy! And though this will always be home to me, I do believe I will find the courage in the future to up from my roots and move to some tropical paradise where the word “snow” does not exist.
I sometimes wonder what it is that makes me like lakorn so much. I can get romance out of books and American tv/movies but I guess lakorn just have that extra spice and, most of the time, that ideal p’ek and happy ending that satisfies a feminine heart. And do I have to mention all the eye candy? 555
Although I can’t relate to brutal winters, here in Seattle, we get year long rain. Yet I always call it my home. I can move/live anywhere else for a period of time, but find myself so deeply rooted here. Traveling and living abroad really does give one a different perspective in life, I highly recommend it. I have been changed forever because of it. Yeah, I’m not dramatic at all. 🙂
Well, you know I’m a drama addict from Singapore (@jjinxx, no snow here!). I stumbled upon JLR on yt and haven’t stopped watching lakorns since. On why I enjoy them so much … Lakorns remind me of the Chinese romance novels I used to read in my teens, they let your imagination run wild with all sorts of fantastic situations and sweep you away with the emotions.
I’ll be MIA for a while due to my trip. Perhaps I’ll return to your posts on Khun Seuk? 😉
I will definitely write some impressions/commentaries on Khun Seuk, So much excitement for the first episode!
Enjoy your trip, relax and get to know the USA. Bear in mind that the immigration process is not as streamlined and smooth as Singapore. I just adore your country of efficiency, fashionable and inspired architectures. I’ll look forward to your trip’s recap!
Phew, I’m so tired from packing. If only I could teleport my entire room with me for vacations! Haha. Enjoy Khun Seuk and see ya in a couple of weeks~
I’m a college dropout, decided to take care of my aunt instead. She is in need of 24 hour care, my ailing grandma can no longer contribute a helping hand and my other aunt who is supposedly the caretaker has a full time job who is unable to care for both my grandma and other aunt. I am planning to return once I figure what I really want to do. I wasted 3 years just trying to figure out what I am best in and what I would like to do for the rest of my life. So I thought to myself, ‘hey might as well save money for the time being until I get things figured out.’ I don’t have fiancial aid so I do really regret those 3 years. I could have done some travelling with those money. Actually make that 3 and a half. Having a AA degree doesn’t come in handy. Been applying to many jobs but sadly no results.
Anyways I was born and grew up in Northern California to a semi traditional family. Had my fair share of troubles. Seeing my older brothers fail at life has really opened my eyes. I don’t smoke, do any other kind of drugs or consume alcohol although I do social drink but I have never really drunk outside my comfort zone.
Although I do not understand Thai, I do watch a lot of lakorns. I guess because I grew up with them but wasn’t interested like how I am to this day. My mom was an avid lakorn watcher but the role has been switched haha… When I get bored with lakorns, I switch over to either, Chinese, Korean or Japanese dramas.
My favorite Thai actresses and actors: (in no particular order) Aum A, Ken T, Rome, Boy P, Patson, Num (well was but I still adore him), Mario, Rita, Ann T, Chalida, Ning Kullasatree (I miss her), Aom P, Janie, Willy, Mam, Jintara, Tik (ok it was just one lakorn that made me head over heel but I guess I will still consider him one of my fav lol), ah… I think I missed a few but I will stop my list here.
Stepping up to care for your aunt speaks a lot about your character- it is commendable. Not everyone chooses to put their lives on hold. And you know, feeling lost and confused about what you want to do when you “grow up” is totally normal. I feel that as we grow older our goals and aspirations change.
You’ve named some old Thai actors/actresses that I would love to see on screen again- better yet I should just watch their old “good” lakorns! Like Ning and Patson, have you seen the lakorn where she pretends to be his wife?
Good luck with your journey to self discovery, my dear. I’ll be here to chat about anything!
ka neung ha is one of my favorites. the other one where she died and the whole soul switching thing lol can’t recall much lol I’m not even sure if I’m even close. the farm one was okay.
I had the biggest crush on patson back in the days lol dark, tall and handsome lol
